Sister O'Brien, O.P.
ADRIAN -- Sister Nora O'Brien, formerly known as Eleanor Loretta O'Brien, died Jan. 3, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Ill. She was 73 years of age and in the 54th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Nora was born in Chicago, Ill., to Thomas and Nora (O'Connell) O'Brien. Sister graduated from Aquinas High School in Chicago, Ill., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in Spanish from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Education Degree in Secondary Education from the University of San Francisco in San Francisco.
Sister spent 44 years ministering in education in Detroit and Adrian, Mich.; Loves Park, Rockford, Chicago and Hometown, Ill.; Defiance, Ohio; and Oakland, Calif. In Chicago she was Principal at St. Philip Neri for five years, Presentation/Precious Blood for three3 years, and Administrator at Our Lady of the Westside for 16 years. Sister served as Co-Provincial for St. Dominic Provincial House from 1973 to 1976. She ministered as Assistant Director of Program/Services at Bonaventure House in Chicago from 1997 to 2002. Sister volunteered her services at the Aquinas Literacy Center in Chicago for the last two years.
Sister Nora is survived by four brothers, Mr. Peter O'Brien and Mr. Joseph O'Brien of Chicago, Ill., Mr. John O'Brien of Oak Lawn, Ill., Mr. Gerald O'Brien of Mendota Heights, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. Mary Therese Austin of Chicago, Ill.
The Wake Service is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, in Holy Rosary Chapel in Madden Hall. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in Holy Rosary Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Zimmerman & Sandeman Funeral Home, Chicago, and Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Harold C. Iffland
BLISSFIELD -- Harold C. Iffland, 74, formerly of Blissfield, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at his daughter's home in Orlando, Fla.
Harold was born on June 29, 1930, in Blissfield, the son of Carl and Margaret (Leighton) Iffland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked at Tecumseh Products, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Blissfield American Legion.
Surviving is one son, Greg Iffland of Ervin, Texas; two daughters, Peggy Iffland and Tori Iffland of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Randy Iffland; sister, Elaine Nichelson-Furgason, and brother, Kenneth Iffland.
Visiting hours will be this Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. A memorial service celebrating Harold's life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Aden Porter officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Pleasant View cemetery in Blissfield, with military graveside services will be conducted by the Blissfield VFW and the Blissfield American Legion.
James J. "Jim" Bartholomew
ALLENDALE -- James J. "Jim" Bartholomew, age 61, of Allendale, went to be with his Lord on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005.
Jim was a City of Walker Fireman for 13 years. He is survived by his wife, Ginger; his children, Steve (Tammy) Bartholomew, Scott Bartholomew, Brenda (Steve) Sell, Scott (Jodi) Tuttle, Chris (Danielle) Tuttle; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; his mother, Gladys Bartholomew; his sisters and brothers, Pat (Dick) Rothfuss, Bob (Carol) Bartholomew, John (Pat) Bartholomew, Marilyn (Jim) Hostetter; several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Byron Center United Methodist Church, 2490 Prescott SW, with Pastor Cynthia L. Greene officiating. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Police and Firefighters Memorial of Walker.
Clair S. Zawodny
ADDISON -- Clair S. Zawodny, age 20 of Addison, passed away on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, surrounded by her loving family in their home. She was born Jan. 5, 1985, in Sylvania, Ohio, to Kevin and Christine (Brenneman) Zawodny. Clair lived in the Addison area most of her life and was currently residing in Jackson, Mich. She attended Addison Schools.
She will be greatly missed by her parents, Kevin and Christine Zawodny of Addison; two sisters, Nicole Zawodny of Marshall and Caroline Zawodny of Lansing; one brother, Jordan Zawodny of Addison; her grandmother, Suzanne Webb of Manitou Beach; uncles and aunts, Deborah (Steve) Davis of Addison, Laura (Peter) Schira of Manitou Beach, Fredrick (Any) Brenneman of Quebec, Canada, partner Matthew Hertzfeld of Jackson; and seven cousins.
Cremation will take place with a Memorial Service to be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, Mich., with Robert M. Levy officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. on Monday and 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Roscoe Ward, Sr.
ADRIAN -- Roscoe Ward, Sr. of Adrian, age 90, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Roscoe was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Adrian the son of Arthur and Florence (Benner) Ward. He married Rosetta Bell Moden June 26, 1935. She preceded him in death in 2002.
Mr. Ward worked as a farmer for 30 years in the surrounding area. He later worked for Belding and Wakarusa Public Schools. He retired from Nappanee Indiana Public Schools as a janitor in 1980. Roscoe enjoyed woodworking, fishing and small engine repair.
Surviving Roscoe are: three sons, Roscoe (Judith) Ward, Jr. of Adrian, Arthur (Ann) Ward of Rockford, Roger (Rosey) Ward of Hastings; three daughters, Irene (Noah) Lemler of Indiana, Julia (Larry) Telfor of Belding, Pamela (Dave) Sagi of Indiana; two brothers, Richard Ward of Cadmus, Harlow Ward of Adrian; two sisters, Mary Boomer of Munising, Mae Smith of Florida; 32 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Special companion Norma Moden. In addition to his loving wife Rosetta, Roscoe was preceded in death by: baby Ward in 1956; daughter, Dora Jean Ward in 1940; son, James in 1998; daughter-in-law, Lila Ward in 1995; brother, Lee Ward in 1974; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Braun Everiss Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Betz officiating. Burial will follow at Madison Center cemetery. Visitation for Roscoe will be on Sunday from 2-4 p.m., Monday from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Eldon J. Wagner
WAUSEON, Ohio -- Eldon J. Wagner, 86, of Wauseon, died early Jan. 15, 2005, at the Fulton County Health Center. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon for 19 years. Mr. Wagner was a farmer until 1962.
Mr. Wagner was born on Dec. 10, 1918, in Haskins, Ohio, to Leo and Bertha (Dauer) Wagner. On Dec. 29, 1945, he married the former Marvel Reno and she survives. He was a member of the Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon where he supported their mission work. He enjoyed traveling with his wife during his retirement, horticulture and woodworking.
Surviving besides his wife, Marvel, are four daughters, Richard (Yvonne) Tripp of Adrian, David (Donna) Smith of Wauseon, Verle (Marie) Short of Archbold and Gary (Cathy) Krapp of Toledo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild, three step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son, Wayne Edward; two brothers, Robert and David; and three sisters, Elsa, Esther and Geraldine.
A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, with Pastor Wes Hoffmire and Pastor Matt Boyers officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may call at Crossroads Evangelical in Wauseon from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the charity of the donor's choice or the charity of the family's choice. The Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon is in charge of arrangements.
Sandra Schuman
CLAYTON, Mich. - Sandra Schuman, age 58, of Clayton passed away at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian on April 13, 2008.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1949, in Ypsilanti, Mich., the daughter of Troy C. and Mary E. (Lytle) Tincher. On June 10, 1966, she married Errol E. Schuman and he survives. Sandy was famous for her green beans and potatoes and loved cooking for family dinners. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Angie Parker and her fiance, Jeff Birchfield, of Adrian; daughter-in-law, Tonya Schuman of Belleville; grandchildren, Vance, Troy, Zane, Colin and Carson, as well as her sister, Sheila Hall of Ypsilanti, and her brother, Randy (Lori) Tincher of Dundee. Also surviving are her father and mother-in-law, Earl and Louise Schuman; and her brother-in-law, Fred Schuman, all of Pinckney; as well as many nieces and nephews, along with her devoted dog, Misha. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Duane Schuman; brother, Roger Tincher; and her sister, Audrey Martin.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea, with the Rev. Beth Foster officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society.
John Raymond Cottle
BRITTON, Mich. - John Raymond Cottle, age 54, of Britton died April 16, 2008.
He was born Nov. 22, 1953, the son of Luella Cottle Chatters and the late Charles Cottle. He is survived by his mother, a sister, Diana (Barry) Porter of Bangor, Maine; two brothers, Kenneth (Arlene) Cottle of Warwick, N.Y., Christopher (Megan) Cottle of Perrysburg, Ohio, and nine nieces and nephews.
John, a developmentally delayed person, lived much of his life in community placements, most recently at Borg Street Home in Temperance. He will be missed by those who shared his childlike joy in the world.
Cremation has taken place No services will be held. Memorial Contributions may be made to the the Association for Retarded Citizens.

Shirley Mae Feight
TECUMSEH, Mich. - Shirley Mae Feight, age 80, of Tecumseh, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008, with her family by her side. She was born July 10, 1927, in Diamondale, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur and Amelia (Bell) Cole. In August, 1947 she married Richard “Dick” Feight; he survives.
Shirley was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, member and past District Director of Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan, member of Little Garden Club of Tecumseh, Michigan Winnebago Club, Herrick Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Wit and Wisdom Group. She was a Master Gardener through Michigan State University and the organizer of the Blue Star Memorial at Brookside cemetery.
In addition to her husband, Dick, she is survived by one son, Gregory (Gwendolyn Day) Feight of Tecumseh; one daughter, Kimberley (Robert) Brunelli of Ann Arbor; one brother, Milton Cole of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Richard and Elizabeth Brunelli. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Beatrice, Sylvia and Hazel; and six brothers, Ralph, Arthur, Charles, Merle, Maynard and Theodore.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church with the Rev. David McKinstry and Ken Boyd and Chaplain Steve Decker of Hospice of Lenawee officiating. Inurnment of the cremated remains will follow at Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh, at a later date. There will be a visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or to the Little Garden Club of Tecumseh for its scholarship fund.
Lucille G. (nee) Palese Fooks
NEWARK, Del. - Lucille G. (nee) Palese Fooks, of Newark, Del., and formerly of Pompano Beach, Fla., died on April 17, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Jack H. Fooks Sr.; a devoted mother of Jack H. Fooks Jr. and his fiancee, Diana Fields, and Andrew “David” Fooks and his wife, Judy; and a loving sister of Samuel Palese and Fay Marvain and her husband, Joe. She was a cherished grandmother of David and Danielle Fooks, and great-grandmother of Ashley Halter, Zachary and Katelyn Fooks.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, Pa., where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery, Pompano Beach, Fla. Franklin E. Rumler Jr.
ADRIAN: Franklin E. Rumler, Jr., age 72, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Adrian, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the home of his son in Adrian.
He was born May 29, 1931, in Petersburg, Mich., to Franklin E. and Etheylene L. (Reum) Rumler, Sr. Frank graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1949. He continued his education at Cleary Business College, Jackson Business University and at Penn State. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1955. On June 16, 1956, Frank married Vivian Hahn in Tecumseh, and she survives.
He was employed at Blissfield Manufacturing, retiring in April, 1994. He was a member of the Adrian Moose. He coached Little League for nine years, Senior League for two years. In addition to being an avid golfer and bowler, Frank was a true Notre Dame Fan. After retiring , Frank and Vivian moved to Sun City, Ariz., where Frank was active in the Sun City Posse, the Geneology Club, and the Sun City Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the Tecumseh American Legion.
Surviving Frank, in addition to his wife, Vivian of Sun City, are three sons, Rick Rumler and his wife, Mary, of Fort Mill, S.C., Randy Rumler of Adrian and Ryan Rumler and his wife, Deborah, of Fennville, Mich.; two daughters, Renee Farah and her husband, David, of Temecula, Calif., Robin Rumler of Adrian; and his grandchildren, Anthony, Vada, Jacob and Chase. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial liturgy will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Helfrich as celebrant. A private interment of cremains will be in Brookside cemetery in Tecumseh with full military rights conducted by American Legion Post #34 and V.F.W. Post #1487. There will be no public visitation.

ADRIAN: Bertha L. Faz, age 80, of Adrian, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Bixby Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian.
Gale L. Hassenzahl
HUDSON : Gale L. Hassenzahl, age 57, of Hudson, passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at her home.
She was born April 23, 1946, in Morenci, Mich., the daughter of Robert and Betty (Partee) Pickford. Gale lived most of her life in the Hudson and Clayton area. She married Harry Hassenzahl in 1994, and he survives. Gale was a homemaker who loved to read, do puzzles, care for plants and play cards.
Surviving Gale is her husband, Harry of Clayton; her sons, Donald Graves of Jackson and Ronnie Graves of Hudson; and her sister, Mona Marshall of Hudson. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter, Angie Graves.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Chris Cadwallader officiating. Interment will be made in North Dover cemetery near Clayton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Gale L. Hassenzahl to assist with funeral expenses.

Richard Dean Elston, age 39 of Addison, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Foote Hospital in Jackson. He was born on June 20, 1964 in Jackson, MI to Melvin Dean and Duretta Jean (Switzer) Elston. Rick was raised in Addison and then moved to Dallas, Texas in 1984 and then returned to Addison in 1997. He graduated from high school in 1982. He then graduated from Baker College in Jackson in 2000. He was employed at Planet Powersports in Coldwater as a Computer Technician. He was a member of the NorthEastern Lodge #210 F. & A.M. Fremont, Indiana, member of Mizpah Shriners, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Rick enjoyed working with cars; he coached girls summer softball in Addison. He was an avid Detroit Red Wings and University of Michigan Football fan. Rick is survived by his mother, Duretta Jean Elston of Addison; one sister, Deborah M. Elston and friend Lynn Mandenberg both of Chicago, Illinois, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Melvin Dean Elston and his maternal grandmother Marie Switzer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison with Pastor Keith W. Porter officiating. Cremation will follow. The visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday.
