RICHER, ROBERT L.; a longtime resident of Waterford and Vero Beach, FL.; died January 27, 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimer s; at 84 years of age. Beloved husband of Agnes Richer; loving father of Michael (Tina) Richer and Lisa (George) Lewis; dearest pepere of Abby and Beth Lewis; Robert is also survived by his sister Edmay, and preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Mr. Richer retired from Pontiac Motors with over 30 years of service. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the U.S. Merchant Marines. He was also a long time coach for the Pontiac Class A Men s Baseball League. A Memorial Service will be Friday, January 30, 2009, at 1 p.m. at COATS FUNERAL HOME, Waterford. CAMPBELL, DONALD J.; long-time newspaper publisher; died Sunday, February 8, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City; he was 90. Mr. Campbell was owner and publisher of the Holly Herald Advertiser from 1961 to 1983 before selling the newspaper to his son, Alan. Even after the sale, he worked selling ads and writing for the newspaper, eventually putting in more than 50 years in the newspaper business. He also authored two published books, The Party at Twin Oaks Ranch and Scoop. Mr. Campbell was born in Grand Rapids on January 28, 1919, the son of Harry and Ethel Campbell of Ionia. He had two brothers who passed on before him, Robert and Charles. He worked in the summers at the family resort on Houghton Lake, starred on Ionia football, basketball and track teams, played in the high school band, and even wrote the school fight song. He served stateside as an Army medic during World War II, then attended Michigan State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. He wrote for the Cadillac Evening News, Port Huron Times Herald, United Press International (UPI) desk in Detroit, and Fremont Times Indicator before deciding he wanted to own a newspaper. In 1953, he married Helen Crandell, a school teacher who was raised in Morrice. The two purchased the Belleville Gazette, then in 1961 sold the Gazette to purchase the Holly Herald Advertiser. The Campbells were both very active in the communities in which they lived. Mr. Campbell was a former president of the Holly Chamber of Commerce and Holly Kiwanis Club and helped organize and print the Goodfellow newspaper in Holly. On many a late Tuesday night he could be found in his office in the Holly Herald writing up a council meeting for the next day s newspaper. He was a member of the Holly Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder. He played his trumpet in the Holly Festival Band until just a couple of years ago. Helen Campbell died on May 13, 1977. In 1984, he married Evelyn Ziegler, who preceded him in death on September 20, 2008. Mr. Campbell was an avid sports fan, having taken his family to see the big game between MSU and Notre Dame in 1966, two World Series games and two Rose Bowl games. He had the strength to navigate the steep steps of the Breslin Center to attend MSU basketball games in each of the past two seasons. His brother, Bob, played football at U-M, brother Charles played football at Ferris State College, and his nephew, Dave, played baseball for the Tigers and Padres and is a sports announcer for ESPN. Mr. Campbell also loved to travel with his wives, counting trips to the Rockies, Washington, D.C., Greece, and Hawaii and 13 cruises among his many blessings. He had a knack for making and retaining friends. Surviving are two sons, Stuart Campbell of Harrison and Alan (Debra) Campbell of Suttons Bay; two grandsons, Cody Alan Campbell and Scott Campbell; and five nephews; through his marriage to Evelyn, he is also survived by two daughters, Gloria (Dan) Leffler of Livonia and Houghton Lake and Linda (Mike) Schaefer of Brea, CA; and many grandchildren; and great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dryer Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be later that afternoon at Roselawn in Perry beside his wife, Helen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holly Kiwanis Club or the Holly Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Edgley was a self-employed painter and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. ROOSA, DOROTHY J. DOTTIE ; of Waterford; February 18, 2009; at 87 years of age. She was born on August 29, 1921, to the late Kort and Martha Spitzner. Devoted wife of the late Jack Roosa, whom she married on February 20, 1946, in Cleveland, OH; loving mother of Barbara (John) LeRoy of Oxford and the late Roger Roosa; grandmother of Roger Keith (Valerie) Roosa, Brian (Misty) Roosa, Laura (Jason) Ricketts, all of MD, John (Kelly) LeRoy of Oxford and Karen (Keith) Sampsell of Waterford; great grandmother of Roger, Tori, Vanessa, Riley, Drew, Trystan, Teagan, Justin, and was anticipating the arrival of Jack, due any day; sister of Martha Scottie Vanaman, Elizabeth Merola, the late Herbert Spitzner, the late Richard Spitzner and the late Anne Azulay. Dottie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in The Waves during W.W.II. She formerly owned and operated Stapp s Shoes in Pontiac and Waterford with her husband. GREIG, JIMMY LEE; age 63; long term resident of Waterford, Michigan, currently residing in Brunswick, Georgia; passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009. Mr. Greig was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam and was retired from the West Bloomfield School System. He was an avid outdoorsman who had a great sense of humor and truly loved life. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bettie Anne Venos Greig of Michigan; a son, Christopher Greig of Michigan; a daughter, Melissa Cooper (Gary) of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Reese and Logan Cooper of Brunswick; two brothers, Danny Greig (Terry) and Fred Greig, both of Michigan; mother-in-law, Anna M. Venos of Michigan; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Venos Sikorski (Robert) of Michigan and Nancy Neilson (Jim) of California; and he also leaves behind many good and dear friends. BEALL, JIM E.; of Waterford; died February 18, 2009; at 79 years of age. Beloved husband of Joyce for 57 years; loving father of Gary (Julie) Beall of OH, Gail (Pat) Miller of OH and Greg Beall of White Lake; dearest grandfather of Nicole, Nick, Chip and Zach; also survived by his brother, George Beall of FL; his sister, Lavon Gula of Waterford; his nieces, Shelly, Heidi and Jodi; and his faithful companion, Dakota. Mr. Beall was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church; he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Jim was the holder of several World Masters records for track and field, and in his free time, Jim enjoyed woodcarving, golf and hunting.
