passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center - Harrison. Age 82 years. Dorothy Gettel was born on October 5, 1923 to the late John and Kathrine (Schnepp) Gettel. She married James Burns on June 6, 1953 in Saginaw. Dorothy had been employed, as an office manager for Dr. Durman. Following Dr. Durman's retirement Dorothy worked in the office of Stevens Van Lines. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, and a member of the Ladies of St. Mark. Dorothy enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Lake Ogemaw. Surviving are two sisters Esther (Kenneth) Ainsworth of Denver, Colorado and Vernita Currey of Sebewaing, Michigan. Also surviving are 11 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters; Roland Gettel, Harold Gettel, Gerhard Gettel, Wilmer Gettel, Donald Gettel, Erna Sting and Milda Gettel. Dorothy was a very loving and caring sister and aunt, she will truly be missed.
FUNERAL - Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2006 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2565 N. Miller Rd. Deacon Roy Luplow will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
VISITATION - Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Dorothy will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Community Village. Age 88 years. Helen Ann McPhee was born October 6, 1917 to the late Archibald and Theresa (Reimus) McPhee. She was married to George F. Cronin on February 22, 1941 in Saginaw. He predeceased her on March 12, 2005. She had been employed by J.C. Penney's retiring in 1979. Helen was a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church and the PTA, and in the later years was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Helen enjoyed golfing and her card club. Surviving are one son and daughter; Robert (Mary Jo) Cronin, Caledonia, MI.; Kathleen (Paul) Arnhold, Saginaw; four grandchildren Kellie, Rob, Michael, and Amy, several nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law Louise McPhee. Helen was preceded in death by one brother Lawrence McPhee and one sister, Rosemary McPhee.
FUNERAL - Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church 5376 State St.. Fr. Leonard Stunek, OFM will officiate with Rite of Committal and burial in St. Andrew cemetery.

passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. Doris E. Brothwell was born in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Claude and Agnes (Armstrong) Brothwell. She married Charles G. Dove on March 17, 1938 in Port Huron. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage together. Doris volunteered at Port Huron Hospital with the Red Cross for over 20 years. She attended Zion Lutheran Church in Bay City. Doris loved to play bridge with her friends. Surviving besides her husband, Charles are two daughters, Joy Roehl, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Janice (George) Weisenbach, Saginaw; five grandchildren, Denise (Steven) McKee, Douglas (Kim) Roehl, Janel (Terry) Pittman, Justin Weisenbach, Jamie Weisenbach; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis (Marylee) Brothwell and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilda Abernethy and Ruth Burch.Following Doris' wishes, cremation has taken place.
SERVICE: A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Pastor John W. Wernecke will officiate.

passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at St. Mary’s of Michigan. Age 57 years. Antonio R. Gonzalez was born on June 13, 1949 to Elias G. and Romana (DeLeon) Gonzalez. He was married to Gloria Sanchez on September 1, 1973 in Saginaw. She survives him. Robert was employed at U.S. Graphite. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed BBQ’ing for the family, wrestling, watching T.V. and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved his pets Freddie and Carley He attended SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Surviving besides his wife, Gloria are two daughters and a son; Amelia (Tim) Palomarez, Antonio “Tony” (Priscilla) Gonzalez, Jr., Melissa Gonzalez, (special friend Mike), five grandchildren Maricella, Carissa, Baby Tim, Sierra, and Velencia. Also surviving are his mother, Romana Gonzalez; three brothers and six sisters; Elias (Gloria) Gonzalez, Arturo (Vicky) Gonzalez, Lollie (Tito) Velez, Mary Salas, Yolanda Noriega, Orelia Torrez, Irene (Jesse) Ortiz, Richard (Debbie) Gonzalez, and Teresa (Jeff) Landosky. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Elias G. Gonzalez and three special brothers-in-law; John Noriega, Daniel and John Sanchez.

passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper. Age 73 years. Thomas Cayetano Huron was born on November 29, 1932 to the late Manuel & Irene (DeLeon) Huron. He was married to Carolyn Rocha on February 14, 1953 in Saginaw. She survives him. Tom was first employed as a bellhop for Bancroft Hotel; he later became the head custodian for Bridgeport Spaulding Community Schools, retiring in 1998. Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; he served on the Parish Council, Men's Club, and the PAGA-serving as treasurer. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. His grandchildren will remember him for many things especially, his special nickname Tommy Kool, and his creativity in constructing things. Surviving in addition to his wife Carolyn; two daughters; Susan (Ted) Kessler of Ionia, Denise (Mark) Doozan of Saginaw; six grandchildren; Justin, Kara, Lauren, Julia, Andrew, Matthew; nine brothers and sisters; Manuel (Aurora) Huron, Helen (George) Hernandez, Frank (Abby) Huron, Alex (June) Rendon, Yolanda (Bob) Ayala, David (Mary Lou) Rendon, Gloria (Alex) Hernandez, Joe Rendon and Rose (Gary) Janiskee, also many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his stepfather, Alejandro Rendon, sister, Olga Luis, brother, Jesse Rendon and sister-in-law, Sandy Rendon.

Our beloved mother, sister and friend passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, September 11, 2006. Age 51 years. Yvonne M. Swint was born November 12, 1954 to Carlos and Dorothy (Westbrook) Swint in Saginaw. She had been employed as a Manager/Trainer for S.B.C./AT&T where she formed a wonderful work family that she cherished and was so thankful for their support. Yvonne retired from S.B.C. in November of 2005. She attended St. Boniface Catholic Church. Yvonne was an artist at heart; she loved photography, glasswork, antiquing, sunsets, and her favorite holiday was Christmas.
Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Heather Jackson and her special friend Justin Sprung; Yvonne's dear friend, Jim Bahm and his family; mother, Dorothy Swint; three brothers and one sister, Bill 'B.J.' (Sue) Osborne, Carol (Tom) Wells, Hollis McCabe Jr., and Rick (Nit) Swint all of Saginaw, many nieces and nephews; and her precious puppy, Cody. Yvonne was preceded in death by her father, Carlos Swint; nephew, Timothy; and niece, Addie Marie. Yvonne's family would like to extended a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful hospice staff that has cared for Yvonne during her battle with cancer.

passed away on Friday, August 25, 2006 at Luther Woods Nursing Home in Grand Rapids. Age 82 years Esther Matthes was born April 24, 1924 to the late Edward and Myrtle (Weiss) Matthes. She was married to Fred Johnson on July 4, 1942 in Saginaw. He predeceased her. She had been employed by Saginaw County working on the election board for over 30 years. She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Esther enjoyed cake decorating and loved traveling throughout the United States. Esther was a loving mother, sister and aunt. Surviving are one daughter and two brothers; Diane (Paul) Hummel; Grand Rapids, Marshall E. (Ardis) Matthes, Saginaw, Donald (Bernadean) Matthes, Idaho, also many nieces and nephew.

Kocks, Donald R. (Bingo Don)

passed away Friday September 15, 2006 surrounded by his family at home after a battle with cancer. Age 77 years. Don was born January 9, 1929 to the late William and Catherine Kocks Sr. He married Kathyrn (Kitty)Gallagher on November 25, 1950. She survives him. Don was employed by General Motors, for 34 years retiring in 1982. He graduated from St. Mary's High School. Don served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a life member of VFW Post #1566. Don was an avid gardener, bowler and loved the game of bingo. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife Kathryn are two daughters and one son. Sheltra (Wilber) Schultz, Kimberly (James) Garner, Freeland; Donald (Theresa) Kocks, East Tawas; five grandchildren; Katie, Kelli, Shawn, Amanda and Krystle; three great grandchildren; two sisters; Mildred Schmidt; Kathleen Sisk, one brother; William Kocks Jr.; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by two sisters; Mary Margaret Brooks, Geraldine Skulley; two brothers; Robert Kocks and John Kocks.

Kurecka, Henry J.
Saginaw, Michigan
passed away peacefully at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper in the presence of his family on September 15, 2006. Henry was born on August 8, 1914 in Freeland to the late Jacob Martin and Katherine Elizabeth (Urbancik) Kurecka. As a young man he was a Eagle Scout. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School as a member of the National Honor Society. He was a good athlete participating in speed skating and playing semi-pro baseball. When World War II began he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp in April, 1942 and served as a flight engineer on a B-26 Martin Marauder that was stationed in England. Henry flew 59 combat missions in the European Theater. On his last mission his crew was shot down over the outskirts of Paris, France on May 27, 1944 while on a bombing mission in preparation of the D-Day Invasion. Although Henry suffered flak wounds to his legs, he was able to successfully parachute from his plane. Subsequently, he was captured by German forces and was held as a POW for eleven months. He was liberated by British military forces in April, 1945. As a result of his service, he was rewarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with nine Oakleaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, the Prisoner of War Medal and other medals.
Upon his return from the war he married his devoted wife, Margaret Doman on June 1, 1946 at St. Mary Cathedral in Saginaw. She survives him. Henry was a devoted member of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Henry was a very hard worker. He was employed for 49 years at General Motors, retiring as a patternmaker at the Chevrolet Metal Casting Plant. He enjoyed his family and watching sporting events.
Surviving besides his wife; Margaret are his children and spouses; Mary Kathryn (Thomas) Trombley, Reese, Kenneth (Janet) Kurecka, Saginaw, Donald (Karen) Kurecka, Rochester Hills; Thomas Kurecka; Saginaw; Michael (Pam) Kurecka; Saginaw. Henry is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Michelle (Jeff) Schluckbier, Matthew Trombley, Kristina (Michael) Tanner, Daniel (Katie) Trombley, Christopher Kurecka, James Kurecka, Andrew Kurecka, Patrick Kurecka, Rachel Kurecka, Colleen Kurecka, also three great granddaughters; Kara and Carly Schluckbier and Allison Trombley. Henry has one surviving sister, Val Greenwood of Saginaw. Henry was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters; Frank Kurecka, Mary Harrod, Jerrry Kurecka, Helen Griffin, Jacob Kurecka, Mildred Thomas, Amelia Sills and Slyvia Brennan; one grandchild Nicholas Kurecka and one great grandchild, Faith Christine Trombley.
FUNERAL - Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St. Fr. Robert Konopa OFM will officiate with rite of Committal. Military Honors will be afforded under the auspices of the VFW # 1566 and burial in St Andrew cemetery.
