August 24, 1915 - November 24, 2005

Gertrude E. Cummings, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2005, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral Services for Gertrude will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ronald Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery in Kawkawlin. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 26, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral chapel. Memorial Donations may be made to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility – Nurse’s Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Gertrude was born August 24, 1915, in Bay City, the daughter of John and Helen (Tidville) Hubble. She was a graduate of Bay City Central High School. Gertrude married Lawrence Cummings on May 4, 1935, in Bay City. Before retirement she had been employed as a supervisor at the Caro Regional Center. Gertrude was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Gertrude is survived by her children, Lawrence “Gary” Cummings of Bay City, Caren Clare of Cass City, and Clarke (Janet) Cummings of Mt. Pleasant; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and sister Catherine Loessel of Saginaw.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Dan Hubble.

Jackson, Lucille Carol
December 13, 1945 - November 22, 2005

Lucille Carol Jackson, 59, of Mt. Pleasant passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at Sparrow Medical Center in Lansing.

Funeral services for Lucille will be held on Friday, November 25, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Saginaw Chippewa United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver Township cemetery. The family will receive friends today until time of service at the church.

Lucille was born on December 13, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Simon and Cecilia (Elk) Jackson. She married Juan Coronado in Lansing. Lucille was a member of Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and Saginaw Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church. She was a good cook and enjoyed playing bingo and slots and joking. Lucille was a strong part in holding her family together.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Juan of Florida; children, Sherry Hawkins, Arnold O. (Amanda) Hawkins Jr., and Kelly (Angel) Bonilla all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Steven, Jonathan and Jessica Hawkins, Andrew Mejia Jr., Kaylee, Anthony, Anoki and Arianna Hawkins, Joshua and Elijah Elk Hawkins, Starr Quintero and Sky Thunder Bonilla and great-grandchildren, Akevio and Angela Hawkins; brothers, Delmar (Julia) Jackson Sr., Alvin Jackson and Dave (Gereda) Jackson all of Mt. Pleasant and DJ Elk of Grand Rapids and sisters, Patricia (Elmer) Keshick, Catherine Jackson and Eve Jackson all of Mt. Pleasant and Elsie (Joe) Compo of Lansing.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Cecilia Jackson and grandpa, Elijah Elk.

Conklin, Wilma Mae
March 21, 1932 - November 22, 2005

Wilma Mae Conklin, 73, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

A memorial service for Wilma will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Gary Lutes officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the chapel.

Wilma was born on March 21, 1932, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of George Isaac and Lelah Belle (Lamp) Davis. She married Melvin M. Conklin on March 21, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2000. Wilma worked in food service for Central Michigan University, Falsetta’s and the Clock Restaurant. She was an avid bingo player and camper.

Wilma is survived by her children, Linda Conklin and Gary Conklin both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Anna Conklin, Veronica Leffingwell, Chad Wale, Kris (Matt) Rondy, and Erica Conklin; great-grandchildren, Jayme and Rikki Riley; bothers, Jack (Shirley) Davis of Mt. Pleasant and Herbert (Lorraine) Davis of Weidman and sisters, Glenda (Ray) McKillop of Weidman and Norma (Dick) Straka of Harrison.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; son, Rick Conklin; parents and brother, Merle Davis.

Schelling, Craig R.
March 14, 1961 - November 20, 2005

Craig Richard Schelling, 44, of Shepherd passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at his home.

Cremation has taken place. Private family services were held at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Craig was born on March 14, 1961 in Grand Rapids, the son of Roger and Donna (Nordyke) Schelling. He worked at Pepsi for twelve years and as a die maker for F&S Carton before retiring. Craig enjoyed working in the yard and woodshop, gardening, his children and grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Craig is survived by his wife, Corine; children, Jason Schelling of Mt. Pleasant, Aaron Schelling of Grand Rapids, Crystal Davidson of Mt. Pleasant and Nichol Mark of Shepherd and two grandchildren, Meleena Davidson and Anthony Mark.

Craig was preceded in death by his mother.

Merritt, Janet I.
August 23, 1938 - November 17, 2005

Janet I. Merritt, age 67, of Clare went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2005 with her family by her side at her home.

Funeral Services for Janet will be held on Monday, November 21, at 2 p.m. at Gilmore Church of Christ with Evangelist Kerry Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Vernon Township cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial Donations may be made to the Gilmore Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Janet was born on August 23, 1938 in Clare, the daughter of Roy and Virgie (Dysinger) Wilson. She married Vincent Ray Merritt on September 11, 1959 in Clare and was a homemaker. She enjoyed flower gardening and crafts and was a talented painter and poet.
Janet dearly loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. She was a gifted Sunday School and V.B.S. teacher. As a devoted minister’s wife, Janet was a friend and counselor to many. Her deep faith in God and her courageous spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her husband Ray Merritt of Clare; 3 children, Randy Merritt of San Diego, CA, Barry (Jane) Merritt of Toledo, OH, Tracy (Mike) Kjergaard, Fort Wayne, IN; 6 grandchildren Michael, Drew, Kellie and Katie Merritt of Toledo, OH, Lindsey and Luke Kjergaard of Fort Wayne, IN; mother Virgie Wilson of Clare; brother Bill Wilson of Clare; and sisters Joyce (Paul) Crane of Clermont, FL and Debbie (Greg) VanBuskirk of Hampton, VA.

Janet was preceded in death by her father Roy Wilson.

Mogg, Bonnie J.
August 31, 1929 - November 15, 2005

Bonnie J. Mogg, 76, of Rosebush passed away on Nov. 15, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family, in the presence of the Lord.

Funeral Mass for Bonnie will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 at 3:30 p.m., St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Don Henkes, Lorriane McGuinness officiating with interment in Woodland cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 4-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Friday, Nov. 18, from 2 p.m. until time of service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Bonnie was born on Aug. 31, 1929 in Rosebush, the daughter of Fred and Mary Amelia Burch. She married Murray Mogg on Sept. 6, 1947 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. Bonnie was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed making chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren, caramel apples at Halloween and shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. Bonnie was also in charge of keeping the Burch family records. Bonnie is survived by her husband, the love of her life, Murray; children, Ted Mogg of Rosebush, Sally (Larry) Sandel of Shepherd, Markie (Terry) Woodbury of Mt. Pitts, Mary Helen
March 21, 1927 - November 15, 2005

Mary Helen Pitts, age 78, of Farwell, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Gilmore Church of Christ with Paul Bush and Jim Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilmore cemetery, Farwell.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 18, from 4-8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Saturday, November 19, from 12 noon until the time of service at Gilmore Church of Christ. Memorial Donations may be made to Gilmore Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and church.

Mary was born March 21, 1927, in Gilmore Township, Isabella County, the daughter of James and Lola (Holmes) Fordyce. She was a graduate of Farwell High School in 1945. Mary married Elwyn Pitts on August 15, 1946, in Farwell and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Gilmore Church of Christ and the Eastern Star Chapter-Big Rapids. Mary loved cooking for others and enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Mary is survived by her husband, Elwyn Pitts of Farwell; children Greg (Chris) Pitts of Elk Grove, CA, Sharon Samford of Farwell, Marlene Pitts of Farwell, and Terry (Marianne) Pitts of Big Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and her inlaws Elaine Esterline of Farwell and Bernard (Yvonne) Pitts of Weidman.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and baby brother George Fordyce.

Flynn, Bud E.
December 8, 1935 - November 15, 2005

Bud E. Flynn, 69, of Mt. Pleasant passed away at his home.

Funeral Services for Bud will be held on Monday, November 21, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Arnold Walling officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, November 20, 2005 from 2-5 p.m.

Bud was born on December 8, 1935 in Mount Pleasant, the son of Seyler and Ruth (Jones) Flynn. He worked for many years as a station engineer for Total Pipeliner before retiring in 1993. Bud married Ruth Ann Kile on September 12, 1959 in Houghton Lake, Michigan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, photography, music, bee keeping and archery.

Bud is survived by his children, Lori Tyree of Mt. Pleasant, Paul A. Flynn of San Diego and Susan Andrea Flynn (Gershen Fein) of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Lea Tyree and Arlena Tyree and one sister, Carol Campbell of Shepherd.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1993; parents and sister, Joann Cross.

Neeland, Goldie Elizabeth
August 16, 1919 - November 14, 2005

Goldie Elizabeth Neeland, 86, of Rosebush, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2005 at her home.

Funeral services for Goldie will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Fulkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodland cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16th from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Free Methodist Church or Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Goldie was born on August 16, 1919 in Gladwin, the daughter of David and Elizabeth (House) Flegel. She married Frank Neeland on June 27, 1937 in Farwell. She was a member of the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church and the M.S. Society.

Goldie is survived by her husband, Frank; children, Robert (Shirley) Neeland of Rosebush, Nita (Edwin) Edgerly of Flint and Ruth (Marvin) Messer of Gladwin; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Marsha) Flegel of Farwell; brother-in-law, Victor Ambrozaitis of West Virginia.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Earl Flegel; sisters, Doris Ambrozaitis and Monica Love.

Turner, Edna Elizabeth
July 8, 1923 - November 14, 2005

Edna Elizabeth Turner, age 82, of Lake Isabella passed away on Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Laurels Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Howell, MI with Pastor Michael Fifer of Faith Baptist Church of Standish officiating. Interment will follow in Sanford cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, November 18th from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Howell. Memorial Donations may be made to the Navajo Missions; 2103 W. Main St. Farmington, New Mexico 87401. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel

Edna was born July 8, 1923 in Royal Oak, MI., the daughter of James and Gladys (Warner) Fockler. She worked for the Howell Public Schools as a baker. Edna married Dwaine Orville Turner on February 20, 1945 in Howell, MI. She was a member of the Chippewa Hills Baptist Church in Remus. Edna and her sister baked and decorated wedding cakes and she enjoyed many crafts.

Edna is survived by her husband; Dwaine O. Turner of Lake Isabella, children, Ronald (Paula) Turner; Brenda (Terry) Fifer and Randy (Lori) Turner all of Howell; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Olive Eason of Howell; Marion Garlock of Fowlerville; Helen (Dean) Sellman of Howell; and Vivian (Homer) Wilkinson of Six Lakes; sister-in-law, Thelma Fockler of Lake.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald and Floyd Fockler.

Cook, Doris V.
September 14, 1922 - November 13, 2005

Doris V. Cook, 83 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Doris will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 1 p.m. from Central Michigan Free Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Fulkerson officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 from 5-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 12 noon until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Free Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and the funeral chapel.

Doris was born on September 14, 1922 in Evart, the daughter of Cleveland and Eva (Hayward) Williams. She married Lawrence Franklin Cook on August 30, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1990. Doris worked for Social Security as a Data Clerk for 28 years. She was instrumental in organizing the American Federal Government Employees for the Mt. Pleasant office. Doris also held the office of Secretary and on-site representative. She was still a member after retiring. Doris was a member of the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church. She was the director of Christian Education for many years. Doris was also a member of the Women’s Ministries International serving as president. She supported a child in the Philippines thru Child Care ministries of the Free Methodist Church.

Doris is survived by her children, David L. (Sharren) Cook of Shepherd, Stephen (Diann) Cook of Mason and Phillip (Marsha) Cook of Naugatuck, CT; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rev. Raymond Roller of Prescott, AZ and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; sisters, Faye Wenzel, Dorothy Wonch, Janice Blake, Joan Roller Mabel Martin and Berneda Ross; brother-in-law, Byron Blake.

Dickens, Joyce
February 9, 1936 - November 12, 2005

Joyce Dickens, age 69, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

A Memorial Service for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility; 3rd floor East Wing with Rev Nancy Casey-Fulton officiating. Memorial Donations may be made to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the Medical Care Facility or Clark Funeral Chapel.

Joyce was born February 9, 1936 in Westwood, New Jersey, the daughter of Lewis and Yetta Kaufman. She owned and operated BJ’s Discount City a furniture store in Traverse City. Joyce loved and adored her granddaughter Rachel Clark, took great joy in spending time with her family and friends, and loved animals of all kinds. Joyce will dearly miss the staff and many friends she made at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Her easy good humor, love of laughter and courageous good cheer will endure and comfort all those who cared about her.

Joyce is survived by her daughters; Deborah (Raymond) Clark of Shepherd and Bobbi (Randy) Vogelsang of Phoenix, AZ and granddaughter, Rachel Clark of Shepherd.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ben and Bobby Kaufman.

Sowle, Timothy James
March 22, 1966 - November 12, 2005

"Some People came into our lives & quietly go, others stay for awhile & leave footprints on our hearts & we are never the same"

Timothy James Sowle, 39 of San Carlos Park, Fl. died Saturday November 12, 2005, in a fire attempting to save his beloved black lab Demi.

Tim was born March 22, 1966 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, the second of 4 siblings. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1984 and moved to Santa Barbara, CA., where he attended UC Santa Barbara, studying Marine Biology. He became a certified PADI scuba diving instructor, teaching diving classes in Santa Barbara for several years. In April 1988 Tim moved to Ft. Myers, FL. and worked in road construction for a time before joining his father, John, with Four Star Lawn Service, in the landscape business. In 2002 he added a tree trimming service to the business and at the time of his death was the president and general manager of the company, in charge of day to day operations.

Tim is survived by his parents John "Jack" and Judy Sowle of Ft. Myers FL., sisters Karen Roy (Kevin) of Mt. Pleasant, MI Kelli Schmerheim (Bob), of Traverse City, MI and a brother Patrick Sowle (Julie) also of Mt Pleasant, MI, beloved nieces Savannah Roy, of Mt. Pleasant and Nikki Schafer of Indianapolis, IN. Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many close friends.

A Memorial service for Tim will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the Sowle family and will be donated to Tim's favorite charities, the Humane Society, for animals affected by the recent hurricanes, and to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital.
