William “Larry” Beck
Died Jan. 31, 2001
William “Larry” Beck, age 90, of Clare, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the Northwoods Nursing Center in Farwell.
Larry was born the son of John and Johanna (Myers) Beck Sept. 18, 1910, in Cygnet, Ohio. He married Irene A. Bednarek on Nov. 27, 1930, in Muskegon and she preceded him in death July 29, 1999. Larry was the owner/operator of the Standard Oil/A&P in Clare. He also owned the Gamble’s store in Scottville. He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare. He was a Knights of Columbus charter member, a past grand knight, a member at one time of the K of C in Scottville. He was also a member of the Scottville Optimist Club.
Larry is survived by two daughters, Rita Murphy of Clare and Kay L. Hemmer of Ludington; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Beck; a brother, Fred Beck; two sisters, Jeanne Nordeen and Doris Hansen; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Joseph, Dennis C. and L. Robert Beck.
Services will take place 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5 at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare with the Rev. Joseph Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery in Clare.
Friends may call at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, 1005 N. McEwan St., Clare, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4 where a rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the K of C Memorial for the Right to Life.
Herbert Irving Parrott
Died Jan. 30, 2001
Herbert Irving Parrott, age 78, of Sun City West, Ariz., died Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Herbert I. Parrott was born April 6, 1922, in Springfield, Ill. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He received a master’s degree in music education from Michigan State University and was a music teacher for 33 years at Boyne City and Waterford Schools, retiring in 1980. He moved to Arizona in 1980 from Waterford. He was a trumpet player in dance and concert bands, was a member of the Lansing VFW band, the Glendale Concert Band, the Sun City Concert Band and a charter member of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, Sun City West, Ariz.
Surviving are his wife, Faith Ione (Brabbs) Parrott; two daughters, Mary Jo Parrott of Lansing, and Nancy (Gerald) Hampton of Clarkston; two sons, Tim (Judy) Parrott of Grand Blanc, and Scott (Sandra) Parrott of Clarkston; one sister, Margaret Parrott of Ludington; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 in Sun City West, Ariz., and in Waterford at a later date.

Roy J. Henke
Died March 24, 1999
Roy J. Henke, age 85, of 713 Brother St., Ludington, died Wednesday, March 24 at Baywood Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Roy J. Henke was born July 11, 1913, in Scottville, the son of William and Fannie (Pratton) Henke. He grew up in Ludington where he attended school, graduating from Ludington High School with the class of 1933. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater.
He was married Sept. 21, 1950, in Ludington to Marie Masse and she survives. He was employed by the Star Watch Case Co. of Ludington until his retirement in 1979.
He enjoyed the out-of-doors and brought a smile to everyone he met. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Marie, survivors include one son, James (and Lisa) Henke of Ludington; one daughter, Janet (and Michael) Duncan of Roanoke, Va.; one grandson, Scott Henke of Ludington; one granddaughter, Katrina Henke of Grand Rapids; three step-grandchildren, Aleatha, Jeffrey and Kristin; one sister, Hazel Christie; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Henke; his mother and stepfather, Fannie and Henry Kronlein; two brothers, Bert and George Henke; and two half-brothers, Fritz and Jack Kronlein.
Mass of Christian Burial from the Order of Christian Funerals for Mr. Henke will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at St. Simon Catholic Church with the Rev. Ken Schichtel as celebrant. Interment will be in Pere Marquette Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Dorrell Funeral Home from 2 to 4 this afternoon and 7 to 9 this evening. A scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 this evening with Rev. Schichtel officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Phyllis Eisenmenger
Died Sept. 4, 1999
Phyllis Eisenmenger of Elmhurst, Ill., and Grand Avenue, Upper Hamlin Lake, died Saturday afternoon at her home in Elmhurst.
She and her husband, Elmer “Al, ” spent most of the past 60 years at their summer cottage on Upper Hamlin Lake. She spent this August at her cottage before returning to her home in Elmhurst. She regularly worshiped at Sacred Heart and St. Simon Catholic churches.
All her life she had been a regular volunteer in the social services field. Her husband, preceded her in death in 1983.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Deborah A. (and Peter) Simon of Indianapolis, Ind.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elmhurst, Ill. Interment will be next to her devoted husband in Calvary Cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill.

Mathilda Rose DeMilio
Mrs. Mathilda Rose "Mattie" DeMilio, 91, died Monday, March 13. She was born July 7, 1916 in Steubenville, Ohio to Walter John and Catherine (Markevich) Zagars. Mrs. DeMilio was a graduate of Scottville High School and the Muskegon College of Business. She married Samuel Anthony DeMilio at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Scottville on April 17, 1937.
Mattie was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Pentwater and was a former member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Muskegon. She was a great artisan with china painting, charcoal and pastels. Being a very politically astute woman, she also had a great voice for singing. She was an avid reader of non-fiction literature, loved to flower and vegetable garden, was a wonderful cook, and was a naturalist, being able to identify many species of birds and plants. She and her husband Samuel were also very active in the Muskegon Elks Lodge No. 274.
Mrs. DeMilio is survived by her children, Michael DeMilio of Tampa, Fla., Karen DeMilio Northrup of Kalamazoo, Tom and Barbara DeMilio of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Barbara and Philip Harmon of Katy, Texas, Mary and Bert Stiphany of Pentwater, Sue and Mark Lamoureux of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, David Harmon, Chris Harmon, Anthony Lamoureux, Annie Lamoureux, William Northrup, Douglas M. Northrup, Megan Stiphany and Kristine Weimer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Anthony in 1980; two sisters, Anna Zagars Zimmerman and Helen Zagars Dykema; five brothers, Joe, Tony, Pete, Walter and Vincent Zagars.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, March 16 at 11 o'clock from St. Vincent Catholic Church, Pentwater, with the Rev. Anton Tran, celebrant. Interment in Pentwater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Scottville High School Fine Arts Department. Friends may greet the family Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Tate-King Funeral Home, Hart.
Frances Lapenas
Mrs. Frances Lapenas, 92, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at the home of her daughter in Grand Rapids. Funeral arrangements by Stephens Life Story Funeral Home in Scottville.
Kathryn "Kate" Whitaker
Kathryn “Kate” Whitaker died Feb. 16, 2006. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Prayer and Praise Assembly of God with visitation at 10 a.m.

Michael Wayne Patterson
Michael Wayne Patterson, 49, of 1207 S. Washington Ave., Ludington passed away on Wednesday, March 15 at Memorial Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Michael was born March 15, 1957 in Ludington and attended Ludington High School. He was a member of the Ludington Lodge 637 of the Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by two brothers, Mark A. (Mary Sulak) Patterson of Ludington and Orrin (Kathy) Stever of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Michelle (Jeff Marcoux) Stever of Free Soil, Christy Stever of Lansing and Phoebe Stever of Minnesota. Also surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins, and he will be greatly missed by Robert Shirley and his many friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Frank Stever.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ludington Moose Lodge.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
