November 8, 1932 - August 2, 2004

Patricia A. Parks, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2004 at her home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Drummond officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 4th from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, August 5th from 6-8 at the Clark Funeral Chapel of Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or Community Cancer Services. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Patricia was born on November 8, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Roy and Ilah (Hagerman) Raymond. On December 16, 1948, Patricia married Marvin “Bud” Parks in Mt. Pleasant. She worked as a cook and server with the Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Marvin; children, Lorraine (Dan) Kirchner of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jeannette Soderquist of Evart, MI; Earl Parks Sr. of Rochester Hills, MI; Mark (Kathy) Parks of Mt. Pleasant; Mathew (Cheryl) Parks of Tampa, Florida; and Sharlene (Charles) Lauer of Evart, MI; 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Raymond of Grand Ledge, MI; sisters, Ruby Harry of Mt. Pleasant; and Minnie Pearl Harry of Barryton, MI.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Kathleen, sisters; Mildred Clark, Florence Heifner, Donna Jean LaLone, and brother, Cecil Raymond.

Dutton, Beverly
January 4, 1929 - August 2, 2004

Beverly Margaret Dutton, 75, of Clare, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2004, at her home.

Beverly was born January 4, 1929, the daughter of Thomas and Eva (Graham) Manuel. She married Robert G. Dutton and was a homemaker. Beverly was a five-time survivor of cancer since 1991. She enjoyed volunteering for the American Cancer Society and Toys for Tots. She will be missed by her friends at the Soaring Eagle Bingo.

Beverly is survived by her children Linda (Robert) Geiermann of Mio and Denise (Greg) Machuta of Mt. Pleasant, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren;

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Cook, Ruth M.
March 27, 1909 - July 30, 2004

Ruth M. Cook, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Holland, Michigan, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2004 at Maplewood Assisted Living.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 1 p.m. from Third Reformed Church in Holland with Rev. Bill Unzicker officiating. Interment will follow in the Pilgrim Home cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant and on Monday, August 2, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. at Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel in Holland. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or Third Reformed Church – Hunger Update Program. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel, Notier-Ver Lee-Langlend Funeral Chapel and the church.

Ruth was born on March 27, 1909 in Holland, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Josie (Steffens) Bolhuis. She graduated from Hope College and later from Central Michigan University. Ruth married Alvin “Boo” Cook on July 1, 1933 in Holland. She was a teacher for Holland and New Groningen School districts. Ruth was a member of Third Reformed Church, R.C.W/Woman’s Literary Club and the R.E.O. Sisterhood.

Ruth is survived by her children, James D. (Samira) Cook of Ridgewood, N.J. and Connie (Don) Holland of Mt. Pleasant; Five grandchildren; Twelve great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Clarence VandeWater of Holland and one sister-in-law, Julia Bolhuis of Holland.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin “Boo” Cook; sisters, Marjorie VandeWater and Evelyn Dalman; brothers, Gerald “Judd” Bolhuis and Frank Bolhuis.

Taylor, Grace M.
November 4, 1914 - July 29, 2004

Grace M. Taylor, 89, of Alma, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at the Masonic Home in Alma.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 31, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. The family will also receive friends on Monday, August 2, 2004 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or
Masonic Home - Ashler Hall. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Grace was born on November 4, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Gerardo and Laura (Canale) Marchese. She graduated from high school and attended Business College for a year. Grace married Duane G. Taylor on Dec. 30, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant, he preceded her in death in 1980. She worked as a teacher’s aide for Ganiard School, being a part of the first group of teacher’s aides in the Mt. Pleasant School District. Grace was also employed as a teacher’s aide for Remus Public Schools. She later worked as a nurse’s aide for Central Michigan Community Hospital and Sears before retiring. After retirement, Grace volunteered at the Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxillary. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and Woman of the Moose #338 in Mt. Pleasant.

Grace is survived by her children, Betty (Keith) Apple of Alma and Gerald (Maureen) Taylor of Weidman; grandchildren, Kandi (Mark) Rockafellow of St. Louis, Brian (Teresa) Apple of Indiana and Jennifer (Joe) Thomas of Berkley, MI; great-grandchildren, Sarah Apple, Dylan and Marshall Rockafellow and Jacob Joseph Thomas; one brother, John Markay of Mt. Prospect, Illinois and special friend, Bill Lidster.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; sister, Christine Swieca and brother, Don Markay.

Prout, Betty Jean
September 12, 1926 - July 29, 2004

Betty Jean Prout, 77, of Mt. Pleasant went peacefully home to Heaven on Thursday July 29, 2004 at her home.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2004, 3 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church with the Rev. Randall Roose and Rev. Fred Fischer officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, July 30, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, July 31, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the Leaton United Methodist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Betty was born on September 12, 1926 in Isabella County, the daughter of Frank and Matilda (Kunzman) Lattimer. In 1944 Betty graduated from Coleman High School as the class Valedictorian. Betty married Duane Prout on November 24, 1945 in Rosebush, MI.
In 1973 Betty won the election to become Isabella County Clerk, where she retired in 2000 after 27 years of public service to Isabella County. Betty was the President of the Michigan Clerks Association and was named Clerk of the year in 1996, while serving as Isabella County Clerk. She was chairperson of the building committee of the Leaton United Methodist Church, missionary chair of the church, taught Sunday school and served as the treasurer of the Central Michigan Area Christian Women’s Club.

Betty enjoyed being a farm wife where she was able to can, garden, and bake. Betty also liked ballroom dancing, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their school and sports events.

Betty is survived by her husband Duane; children, Janet (Trennis J.)Yoder of Midland, Mark Prout of Alma, Marjorie Cook of Lake Isabella, Thomas (Tammy) Prout of Delwin, Dennis (Jill) Prout of Traverse City and Mary Ellen Prout of Mt. Pleasant; Grandchildren, Laurie (Trevor) Wickes, Erin (Jason) Pittman, Kim (John) Pobanz, Sam Prout, Nick Prout, Martha Prout, Maureen Prout, Andy Prout, Lindsay Prout, and Nathan Prout; Great-Grandchildren, Ellie Wickes, Tate Wickes, Jackson Wickes, and Scout Pittman; Brother, Eugene (Ila) Lattimer of Coleman, and sisters, Thelma Watson of Rosebush, Donna (Oscar) Prout of Coldwater Lake, and sister in law; Neva Lattimore of Chippewa Lake.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, son, Larry Lee Prout, son-in-law Stewart Cook, brother, R. J. Lattimore, brother-in-law Robert Watson, and sisters Bernice (John) Gross, and Mildred (Ed) Neff.

Pinten, Ronald "Ron" Francis
November 12, 1943 - July 27, 2004

Ron Pinten, age 60, of Mt. Pleasant, died at his home July 27, 2004, surrounded by his loving McBride #1 family.

A Memorial Service for Ron will be held on Friday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the chapel. Burial will take place at the Lincoln Township cemetery.

Ron was born in Hancock, MI. He lived most of his life in Coldwater, MI. He moved to the Mt. Pleasant area in 1982. He moved into the McBride #1 AFC Home in 1989, where he was lovingly cared for during the remainder of his days.

Ron was a free-spirited man. He enjoyed living life on his own terms. His friends will miss his million-dollar smile and his mischievious glances. His many interests included animals, visiting with children, dancing, going out to eat, wearing his favorite hat, and helping others. He worked for many years at Mid-Michigan Industries, until his retirement in 2002.

Ron will be greatly missed by his many friends, including Skip, Penny, Roberta, Kim, Jack, Berit, Nancy, Kelly, Carol, Vicky, Tammy, Richard, Hilda, Kelly, Jane, Megan, Ola, Maribel, Dawn, Rosemary, Anna, and Lois. His friends are grateful for the support provided by the staff of Hospice of Central Michigan and Rev. Ron Vredeveld.

Ron will be joining many family members and friends in Heaven, including his parents and his friends Bill and Raymond.

Wisnewski, June Gloria
August 15, 1925 - July 25, 2004

June Gloria Wisnewski, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Henry cemetery in Rosebush. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Thursday, July 29, 2004 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

June was born on August 15, 1925 in Detroit, the daughter of Bernard and Irene (LaRose) Ewald. She married Thomas J. Wisnewski on March 3, 1945 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. June enjoyed gardening, oil painting and jigsaw puzzles. She treasured her time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church while living in Leaton. Moving to Mt. Pleasant she became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church

June is survived by her husband, Thomas of Mt. Pleasant; children, Diane (Wayne) Castleberry of Richmond, VA., Sharon (Tom) Adragna of The Villages, FL., Joann (Roger) Hoggard of Midland, Tom (Julie) Wisnewski of Zionsville, IN., Marianne Benson of Chadron, NE., grandchildren, Jason (Lorie)Knowles, Laureen Knowles, Natalie and Ryan Adragna, Stephanie and Eric Hoggard, Nickolas, Kevin, Steven and Jared Wisnewski; great grandchildren, Kiersten Bohm and Elizabeth Adragna; brother, David (Sally) Ewald of Sebastopol, CA.; sister, Bernice McDermott of Taylor, MI.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ewald of Tennessee.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Irene Ewald; brothers, Dick, Bernard and Gilbert Ewald and sister-in-law, Roslie Ewald.

Schafer, Melvin Bernard
February 8, 1934 - July 20, 2004

Melvin Bernard Schafer, 70, of Weidman passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at his home with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City with Father John Cotter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph the Worker cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and on Thursday, July 22, 2004 from 9:30 until time of service at the Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church or St. Joseph the Worker Catholic School. Envelopes will be available at the church or Clark Funeral Chapel.

Melvin was born on February 8, 1934 in Isabella County, the son of Charles Peter and Agnes (Finnerty) Schafer. He married Pauline Paisley on August 8, 1953 in Beal City. Melvin was a plumber for the Local 85, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Beal City Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and cheering on their sporting activities.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Pauline of Weidman; children, Linda Connors of Mt. Pleasant, Chuck (Jeanne) Schafer of Beal City, Cindy (Tim) Bollman of Mt. Pleasant, Annette (Ed) Mogg of Mt. Pleasant, Bernie (Barb) Schafer of Beal City, Pat (Karen) Schafer of Beal City and Gregg (Kathleen) Schafer of Beal City; grandchildren, Dave and Joe Connors, Laura, Elizabeth, Abe and Emma Schafer, Bryan, Brenda and Matt Bollman, Andy and Shelby Mogg, Christopher, Daniel, Sarah, Patrick and Alex Schafer, Kay and Amanda Schafer, Adam and Melanie Schafer; his father, Charles; brothers, Jim (Jeanette) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant and Mike (Carla) Schafer of Beal City and sister, Patty (Charlie) Cutler of Beal City.

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes and brother, Tim Schafer.

Sill, Mary Kathryn
March 23, 1917 - July 12, 2004

Mary K. Sill, 87, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, July 12, 2004 at her home.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gene Haymaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 14 from 5-9 p.m. and on Thursday, July 15 from 11 a.m. until time of service at the chapel. Mary was born on March 23, 1917 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Anthony and Helen Katerina (Jelinek) Botek. She married Waldo J. Sill on November 1, 1938 in Port Huron. Mary was a member of the Chippewa Baptist Church since 1946. She enjoyed gardening, birds and reading about history.

Mary is survived by her children, Rosemary Kathryn Sill of Mt. Pleasant and Jerry (Linda) Sill of Shepherd; grandchildren, Rene’ Connors of West Palm Beach, FL, Caleb Sill of Shepherd and Hannah (Joshua) Pestel of Shepherd; brother, Frank Botek of Grand Ledge; sister, Anna Cockrell of Mt. Pleasant and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo, on November 21, 1978; brother, Anthony Botek in the Korean War and Sisters, Evelyn Courey and Agnes Love.

Shoen, Philomene L.
June 24, 1917 - July 12, 2004

Philomene L. Shoen, 87, of Delwin passed away on Monday, July 12, 2004 at Star Manor in Northville, Michigan.

A Funeral Mass for Philomene will be held on Friday, July 16, 2004 at 11 a.m. from St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 4079 E. Vernon, Rosebush with Father Don Henkes and Lorraine McGuinness officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Henry’s Catholic cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday, July 15, 2004 from 5-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. The family will also receive friends on Friday, July 16, 2004 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Philomene was born on June 24, 1917 in Isabella County, the daughter of Thomas and Lottie (Little) Lawler. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1932. Philomene was married to her first husband, Roswell Hart who preceded her in death in 1950 and her second husband, Clifford Shoen, who preceded her in death in 1985. She attended and graduated from Central Normal School and Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in 1992. Philomene taught grade school from the time she was 16 years old. She taught in Brinton, Delwin, Leaton and Bowen communities for over 30 years. Philomene was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and a retired member of the Teacher’s Association.

Philomene is survived by her children, Sam T. (Darlene) Hart of Delwin, Ross J. Hart of Mt. Pleasant, Colleen L. Hart of Ann Arbor, Carol (Arthur) Hart Belloli of Novi, Janet (Michael) Hart Spain of Annapolis, MD, Tim J. (Vickie) Hart of Mt. Pleasant, and Mary S. Shoen (Kay Anderson) of Delwin; eight grandchildren, Adrian Spain, Damian Spain, Steve Hart, Scott Hart, Tanya Ward, John Shoen, Jeremy Hart and Andrea Hart; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Philomene was preceded in death by both husbands; grandson, Sammy Joe Hart in 1992; brothers, Russell and Tommie Lawler; and son, John C. Shoen.

Baker, Shirley Lou
January 12, 1929 - July 10, 2004

Shirley Baker, 75, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Crandall and Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 12, from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Academy or donor’s choice.

Shirley was born on January 12, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Charles Baker and Elizabeth W. (Pierson) Baker. Shirley graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1947. She was a secretary for 27 years with SBX. Shirley was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant

Shirley is survived by her sister, Mary Kay Axsom of Tempe, Arizona; niece, April (Roger) Hicks; great nieces and nephews, David, Deanna, Mike and Terry Hicks, Traci and Chad Florian and Stephani Van Horn; special friends, Tom and Sharon Weirich and family.

Shirley was preceded in death by both parents, Charles and Elizabeth Baker, sisters, Jane Van Horn, Ella Mae Bugbee, Dorothy Helen Baker, and brother, Robert Baker; brother-in-law, Chuck Axsom along with nephew Charles Walter Van Horn.
