Patricia Ann (Engen) Forberg, aged 61, of Kentwood, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2015. Patt was born February 3, 1954, the youngest of six children born to Harold and June Engen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ken Engen; and sister, Shirley DenBoer. An amazing daughter, sister, wife, Mom, grandma, friend, and a Christian role model to all she met, Patt faced her last battle here on earth showing true faith and such grace. We rejoice today that she is no longer in pain, yet we struggle with our loss. We will remember her quick wit, her love of fun, and her care and compassion for others. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 41 years, Robert "Rick" Forberg; sons, Jason and Spencer; siblings, Kathy Korhorn, Jim (Nancy) Engen, Janet Holloway; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service and luncheon will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Cornerstone Church, 1675 84th Street, SE, Pastor Marcus Schmidt officiating. JACKSON - A faithful, pure-hearted soul, Monica Ann (Wood) Jackson, 55, went home Sunday, November 22, 2015 after a brutal battle with evil, cruel and unrelenting cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Wood, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Wesley and Martha Jackson; and nephew, Thomas Jackson. Surviving are her husband of nearly 33 years, Paul W. Jackson, mother, Esther Wood, brothers, Steve (Laura) and Peter Wood, sister, Laura Wood, aunt Angie Gilder, and many other relatives. Special thanks to Tammy Tjepkema, Chris and Judy Bonzheim, Mandy Easterday, Sherry Kelly and all the family and friends who kept in touch and prayed, and to hundreds of strangers who prayed. Also, special thanks to Michigan Farm Bureau, which was supportive beyond all expectations. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 at Stroo Funeral Home. A family only interment service at Hill Cemetery. Richard W. DeFouw, age 65, of Kentwood, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, and went to be with his Lord. Rich was born in 1950, the son of William and Eleanor DeFouw. After graduating from Creston High School in Grand Rapids, MI, he went on to Hope College in Holland, MI and the University of Michigan for his engineering degree. Rich worked for Ford and Chrysler in Detroit, where he earned his Master's Degree in electrical engineering. During his career he has worked for Lear Siegler, General Electric, and Rapistan. For the past ten years, Rich worked as a contract engineer for Log Plan in Denver, CO. A man of strong faith, he was very active in the churches he attended. He loved his wife, Deb, children and grandchildren; his pets; and University of Michigan football. His father, William DeFouw, preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 43 years, Deb; his mother, Eleanor; his children, Megan (Jeff) Kaiser, Emily (Matt) VanVliet; his grandchildren, Jackson, Ian, Spencer, Lilah, Connor, and Audree; his sisters, Susan (Del) Hawkins, Julie (Jeff) Payne; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 23, at Cornerstone Church, 1675 84th St. SE, Caledonia. Rich's family will greet visitors on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at Stroo Funeral Home, and on Monday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. COOPER - Harriet (Faber) Cooper aged 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 10th, 2015. She was born April 29, 1927 to Frank and Antonia Faber in Doon Iowa. The family moved to Grand Rapids when she was a young girl and she resided here her entire life. Harriet was a strong independent woman who raised 3 sons and a daughter, all of whom appreciated the sacrifices she made for them. She always put those she loved first and did everything she could for her children and grandchildren. She lived on her own till the day she died, very reluctant to accept assistance with anything. She leaves behind children, David Cooper, Denny (Chari) Cooper, Joel Cooper and Bonnie (Paul) Hagan. Seven grandchildren, Angela (Paul) Boxer, Russel Cooper, Benjamin Cooper, Brandi (Nate) Hagan/Harr, Ariel Hagan, Summer Hagan & Hollie Hagan, also five great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Freda Faber, Frances Scripsema, Art (Virginia) Faber and Nellie (John) Grasmeyer also brother and sisters-in-law, Robert Cornelisse, Nella Faber, and Esther (Matt) Woudenberg; also many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Antonia Faber, her siblings & their spouses, Willie Faber, Ted (Ida) Faber, Jennie (Corelius) Klaver, Herman Scripsema, Elizabeth (Clarence) Bouwkamp, Antoniette (Carl) Storm, Gerard Faber, William Vansprange, William Faber and Evelyn Cornelisse. A celebration of her life will be noon Monday, November 30th at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. Open visitation from 11:00 - 12:00, service at noon officiated by Pastor Ron Walker, with luncheon to follow.

STEARNS - Susan M. Stearns, aged 57, of Middleville, went to be with her Lord on Monday, November 16, 2015. Susan was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Surviving are her husband of 20 years, James; children, Anthony (Angela) Leslie, Joshua (Amber) Leslie, Christopher (Yuri) Leslie; grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Christian, Grace, Avery, Jacob, Makayla; mother, Marian (Floyd) Hewitt; father, Bernard (Aileen) Hewitt; sisters and brother, Sheryl (Robert) Evans, Sharon (Gene) Leep, Stuart Hewitt; many other family and friends. Erwin E. George, age 93, of Kentwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 13, 2015. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and went on to work for Michigan Bell, retiring after more than 30 years of service. Erwin was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son-in-law, William McKinley; and three brothers. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Barb George, Mary McKinley, and Jan (Mike) Oberlin; his grandchildren, Kurt (Rachel) Oberlin, Kristine Oberlin, and Katlin (John) Ferland; his great granddaughters, Ellie and Haley; as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, at Kentwood Baptist Church, 2875 52nd St. SE, with his grandson, Pastor Kurt Oberlin, officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa. Memorial contributions may be made to Kentwood Baptist Church. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith".

Marlene E. LaMarr, age 89, of Kentwood, formerly of Jackson, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 13, 2015. Marlene was born in 1925 in Metropolis, Illinois, to Lawrence and Clemmie Humes. She moved to Jackson in 1941 with her parents, and was married to the late John P. LaMarr, a WWII veteran of the Pacific Theatre. Marlene was a member of Lansing Avenue Baptist Church in Jackson, MI, until moving to Grand Rapids and attending Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. Both she and her late husband, John, were believers in Jesus Christ. They owned and operated a licensed adult foster care facility for mentally impaired young people until 2002. She always loved children, so before that, she also owned and operated a babysitting service. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and son, Michael. Surviving are her adopted son, Ronald (Deeds) LaMarr, her daughter, Diana Faye Flier (LaMarr); granddaughters, Candace, Eliza, Sabrina; and six great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held 6 pm Monday, November 16, at the funeral home. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Jackson.

Huisman, Bertha (DeVries) Our beloved mother and grandmother, Bertha Huisman, age 99, went to be with her Lord on November 12, 2015. Bertha was born on August 10, 1916, to Richard and Gertrude DeVries. She married Court Huisman on November 5, 1936, and together they raised eight children. After the children were in school, she realized a long-held dream by becoming a licensed Practical Nurse. She was generous in the use of her many skills – baking, cooking, sewing, knitting, crafting – and used them to bless the lives of others. She was also active in her various church communities. Her children thank God for the model of a Christian life well-lived. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (2001), six siblings, and two sons-in-law. She is survived by her children, Trudi Huizenga, Carl (Coni), Mary Perrin, Jenny (Duane) Brummel, Rich (Ruth), Beth (Vern) Brummel, Al (Kathy), and Joy Babcock; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by siblings, Richard (Eleanor) DeVries, Arline Wielenga, Hilda TeVelde, Bernard (Joyce) DeVries; sisters-in-law, Jean DeVries, Gertrude Huisman, Flossie Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. VISITATION: 5-8pm on Wednesday, November 18, at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St SE, Grand Rapids. SERVICE: 1pm on Thursday, November 19, at the Chapel of Fulton Manor, 1450 Fulton St E, Grand Rapids.
