Tamie Renee Brown, age 47, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Shirley Jenkins. Tamie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Austin Williams, Taylor Williams, and Ryan Williams; her granddaughter, Vanessa; her boyfriend, Ron Cecil; brother, Ed Jenkins, and sister, Mary Jenkins. The family will greet visitors from 7 - 8 pm on Thursday, March 30, at Stroo Funeral Home, where the funeral service will begin at 8 pm.

HEYDENBURG - Sherril Lee Heydenburg, aged 69, of Grand Rapids, entered the arms of her loving Savior and father on Friday, March 24, 2017. Sherril believed in Jesus and trusted in the Lord. Her father, Walter Grotenhuis preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paul Heydenburg, Dan (Andrea) Heydenburg, Carmen (Mark) Belkowski; grandchildren, Shayna, Chad, Tayler, Kayla, Melissa, Matthew, Shaylee, Sarah; four great grandchildren; mother, Marjorie Grotenhuis; brothers and sister, Dale Grotenhuis, Carol (Brent) Turner, Bruce (Karen) Grotenhuis; many nieces and nephews. Connie Sharp, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Connie had a tremendous Christian outreach through her day care for 37 years, as well as her women's and food ministries. In Connie's last days, amazing testimonies were shared with her family by those whose lives she lovingly touched. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Keely and Joe Gardner, Kim and Ron Van Kints, Chris and Amy Sharp; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, C.J. and Cait Gardner (Charlotte and Cora), Jake Gardner, Morgan Gardner, Aaron Van Kints, Lauren Van Kints, Isabella Sharp, Jeremiah Sharp; her beloved sister and best friend, Shirley England, and her nieces and nephew. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 25, at inSpirit Church, 870 74th St. SW, with Pastor Randy Ledeboer officiating. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Guiding Light Mission. Raymond L. Blain, age 88, of Byron Center, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017. Ray honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a proud member of the D.W. Cassard American Legion Post 208. He retired from the Kent County Road Commission after 38 years of service. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; and son-in-law, Karl Wheaton. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Betty Wheaton, Michael (Dawn) Blain; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Wheaton, Eric (Julie) Wheaton, Bradley Wheaton, Herman Renkema, Jennifer Knotts; great grandchildren, Ava and Isaac Wheaton; and many extended family and friends. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE. Interment will take place in Blain Cemetery. Louis W. Lapekes, age 88, of Wyoming, MI, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, after a few years of illness. Louis was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed working on cars. He retired from McInerney Spring & Wire after many years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; grandson, Jason; brothers, Freddy, Roman, Ed, Chuck, Steve, Harry; and sister, Lillian Telfor. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Dennis (Dee) Lapekes, and their sons, Mark, and Denny (Cindy) and their children, Dennis (Kimberly), Darrin VanTuinen, Shania Lapekes; Terry (Carol) Lapekes, and their sons, Chad and David, and Chad's children, Hunter and Taylor; four great-great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Howard (Dorothy) Lapekes, Larry (Cindy) Lapekes, Lorraine Ostrander; sisters-in-law, Martha Lapekes and Marge Lapekes. DEGNER - Betty Marie Degner (Tolly), aged 92, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Temperance, MI, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017. Betty was born on Sept. 24, 1924 in Temperance and married Richard Degner on September 12, 1944. She worked for 20 years at Crary Drug Store in Temperance. After retiring, Betty and Richard moved to Grand Rapids in 1985. She loved baking. Her husband, Richard; and brother Gerald Tolly; preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Douglas (Jacqueline) Degner of St. Joseph, MI, Annette (David) Kok of Deerfield Beach, FL; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Eleanor (Earl) Osgood; sister-in-law, Alberta Tolly; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 am Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE; with her grandson, Jeff Degner, officiating. Entombment in Kent Memorial Gardens. DE VRIES - Russell J. DeVries, age 80, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, March 17, 2017. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Joanne; his children Debra (Ed) Peters, Sherry (Douglas) DeHaan, Russ (Linda) DeVries, Melodie (Sam) VanderGraaf; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Lucy Ann) DeVries; sisters-in-law and brother in-law Joyce (Darrell) Coxon, and Barbara Powers. Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Cora DeVries; a sister and brother-in-law, Alyce and Roger Roodvoets; his father and mother-in-law, Weldon and Vera Stoner; and step father-in-law, Hyland Tasker. Each of his children will forever be thankful for the strong and steadfast Christian faith he openly talked with them about and displayed by consistent example. Russ loved Joanne and his family and his family is grateful for how hard he worked to meet all of their needs. Russ served his country in the National Guard. He was a favorite salesman to many around the state who purchased cars from him at Harvey Cadillac. He loved helping, spending time and traveling with his family, and supporting those in need. And, he enjoyed the regular fellowship and interesting discussions he had with his breakfast buddies. The family will greet visitors at Millbrook Christian Reformed Church, 3661 Poinsettia Ave. SE, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and Tuesday from 10-11am prior to the services, which will begin at 11am. Rev. William Hensen will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Millbrook CRC Mission Fund.

Elaine M. Buchanan, age 90, formerly of Caledonia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Along with her husband, Ed, she owned and operated Southwest Body Shop, where she did the bookkeeping. She was a longtime member of Caledonia United Methodist Church and of the Caledonia Eastern Stars. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents, Warren and Blanche Tape; and son-in-law, Allan Jousma. Surviving are her daughters, Diane (Johnny) Dutcher, Linda Jousma, Dawn (Larry) Stauffer, Sheila (Mike) Maxwell, Debra (Kevin) McVoy; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; brothers, Fritz (Pam) Tape, Kurt (Barb) Tape, Ryan (Tina) Tape; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a long time family friend, June Plummer. The family expresses sincere thanks to Heather Hills Village Care, Faith Hospice, and Visiting Angels for their loving care. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice.
