HEYDENBURG - Sherril Lee Heydenburg, aged 69, of Grand Rapids, entered the arms of her loving Savior and father on Friday, March 24, 2017. Sherril believed in Jesus and trusted in the Lord. Her father, Walter Grotenhuis preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paul Heydenburg, Dan (Andrea) Heydenburg, Carmen (Mark) Belkowski; grandchildren, Shayna, Chad, Tayler, Kayla, Melissa, Matthew, Shaylee, Sarah; four great grandchildren; mother, Marjorie Grotenhuis; brothers and sister, Dale Grotenhuis, Carol (Brent) Turner, Bruce (Karen) Grotenhuis; many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Tuesday, March 28, from 4 to 6 pm at Calvary Church, 777 East Beltline, NE; where a funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm. Interment in Georgetown Township Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Sherril may be made to the Calvary Church Missionary Fund.

Dale J. Van Oost, age 75, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 2, 2017. Dale proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his former spouse, Peg Van Oost. Surviving are his sister, Janice (Denis) Crum; brothers, James Van Oost, Steven (Elaine) Van Oost; and several nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, March 6, at Stroo Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Denis C. Crum officiating.

In God's perfect timing, Joshua C. VanHaitsma - VanderBoon, age 27, of Ada, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 30, 2017. Josh has been released from his earthly limitations and is now living fully in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Robert VanderBoon. Josh will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his parents, Gwen and Jim VanderBoon; his brothers and sisters, Jamie VanderBoon, Kayla (Will) O'Brien, Shane VanderBoon, Anika VanderBoon; his grandparents, Keith and Charlene VanHaitsma, Orie and Laurena VanderBoon; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as a special caregiver, Cara. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Dutton United Reformed Church, 6950 Hanna Lake Ave. SE, with Rev. Brian G. Najapfour officiating. Interment will be in Cascade Cemetery. Rizk A. Bsharah, 86, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born to the union of Andrew Bsharah and Rengus Sickrey on September 29, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; son, Thomas; grandson, Rizk C. "Ricky" Bsharah; and sister, Gladys Bsharah.
Rizk was better known as "Rick the Barber" throughout the Grand Rapids area for many years. He also served as the resident barber at the Clark Home and the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Nothing made him prouder than to boast of his family and he was always eager to hold each new baby in his loving arms. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, bravely fought in the Korean War and was awarded two Purple Heart medals. Being a Marine remained a source of pride throughout his life.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will take place on Friday, October 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery located at 1102 52nd St. SE, Kentwood, MI. A time to celebrate his life and share stories with his family will follow the service at the American Legion Post 208 at 133 44th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI.
Rizk is survived by his children, Robin and Jim Miller, Andrew and Barb Bsharah, Rizk F. and Lori Bsharah, Jane and Stuart Forth, Mary and Eric Brown, Holly Littell and Paul Bsharah; grandchildren, Khristie Miller, Timothy Rogers, Erik and Craig Rose, AJ and Joel Bsharah, Nichole Carrasco and Dustin Bsharah, Stuart and Leslie Forth, Hunter and Alex Brown, Leland and Gabe Littell; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Frances Joseph; nieces, Nancy Joseph Bunker and Georgette Joseph Ike; and very special longtime friend, Buzz Trudell.
Memorial donations in Rizk's name may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Envelopes will be available at the American Legion.

Genevieve Marion "Gigi" Beattie

BEATTIE – Genevieve Marion Beattie, aged 90, passed away in a skilled nursing facility near St Louis, MO, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Genevieve, better known as “Gigi”, was born in Capac, MI to Carl and Beatrice Beischer in 1926 and graduated from Capac High School in 1944. She attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, where she majored in Communication & Theatre Arts and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949. While at Taylor, she fell in love with Harold Beattie and they were married in 1950. They moved to Grand Rapids, where Gigi became an English and drama teacher at South High School. They built a home in Cutlerville in 1953, and raised their family there. Gigi delighted in serving Jesus by helping others at home, at church, at school, and in the community. In 2013, Gigi could no longer care for herself, and moved to nursing facilities near her son Cameron’s family in Missouri. Gigi’s enthusiastic and generous spirit touched the lives of many students, friends, and family during her time on earth, and we will miss her dearly. Gigi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Vernon Beattie; and her brother, Geoffrey Beischer. She is survived by her son, Rodney and his two sons, Jonathon and Christopher; son, Cameron with his wife, Katarina and their two sons, Alexander and Nathaniel; sister, Geraldine Schwartzkopf; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 3, at Banner of Christ Church, 1111 68th St SW, Byron Center, MI, with Pastor Mike Caley officiating. Interment will be at Kent Memorial Gardens. Donations in her honor can be made to Taylor University for the “Harold and Genevieve Beattie Memorial Scholarship.” The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday from 5 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home.

Hermina (Crum) Drenth

Hermina Drenth, age 92, of Kentwood, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, William Drenth; her son, Albert Drenth; and her sisters, Johanna Lewis and Cornelia Ravenhorst. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Drenth; grandson, Robb Haagsman and his wife, Emily Beaver; grandson, Brian Haagsman; brother, John Crum and his wife, Edna; sister, Helen Goemaat; and many nieces and nephews. Hermina was born in Iowa, spent most of her life in Hollandale, MN, and moved to Kentwood in her later years. She loved Jesus and enjoyed creation by growing beautiful flowers and watching birds and squirrels out her window. She enjoyed people, was an active member of her church, and joined Princeton CRC after moving to Michigan. Hermina was a hard worker and kept a "Dutch clean" house, but did find time to create beautiful needlework. She will be greatly missed. Special thanks to her friends at Princeton CRC and to Shandra, M.S.W., and Louise, RN from Spectrum Health Hospice. Your support was priceless. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, April 30, from 3 - 4:30 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. Preceding him in death are his parents, George and Jeanette (Potter) Springvloed; his sister, Carole Lankheet; his father and mother-in-law, James and Bertha (VanLaar) VanderKodde. He was a faithful husband, father, and friend, who will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Judy; his children, Sherri (Springvloed) Thompson, Dave and Sheri Springvloed, Michelle and Mike Vonk; his grandchildren, Steven, Stephanie, Jacob Springvloed, Victoria, Sydney Vonk; brothers and sisters, Ron and Belle Springvloed, Janice Fredricks, Jim and Lynne Springvloed, Ron Lankheet, Jean and Rev. Norma (Westfield) Oudman, age 93, went peacefully to be with our Savior on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Sunset Retirement Community. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, H. Bernard (Bernie) Oudman. Norma was devoted to her family and enjoyed a lifetime of sharing hymns of praise to the Lord with them. She is survived by all her children, Judy (Bruce) Koorndyk, Jack (Susan) Oudman, Jay Oudman, Joann (Ken) Janeschek; her grandchildren, Julie (Dave) Boshea, Kim (Rick) Boylan, Amy (Todd) Gagner, Joshua (Susan) Oudman, Stephanie (Ty) Magnie, Krista Janeschek, Jacob Janeschek; also six great-grandchildren; and one fifth generation grandchild. Interment, Blain Cemetery. Arrangements by Stroo Funeral Home.
