Josiah T. Wilson, age 16, of Grand Rapids, was suddenly lost to us on Monday, September 18, 2017. Josiah loved music, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bicycle repair and helping others. His brother, Selah, and Aunt Jill, preceded him in death. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Julie Wilson; sisters, Shaena, Gabriella, Alexa; grandparents, Dan (Kathy) Seadorf, Harold Wilson, Carolyn Wilson; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at Stroo Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 20, from 6 - 8 pm and Thursday, September 21, from 1 - 2 pm followed by the service at 2 pm, Pastor Garry Koon will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Georgetown Bible Church to help the family with expenses.

David "Woody" Groenveld

David "Woody" Groenveld, age 55, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2017. He was born February 23, 1962 in Grand Rapids, MI, and was a graduate of East Kentwood High School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Seekman and Groenveld. Woody is survived by his mother, Ruth Tiesma; father, John (Suki) Groenveld; sisters, Debra and Dianna (Carl); brother, Doug; daughter, Tanya; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several extended family members and friends around the country. On Saturday, September 30, there will be a visitation from 10 - 11 am at Stroo Funeral Home, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. A luncheon will follow at the Ideal Park CRC Activities Building. Woody will be given his last ride to East Drenthe Cemetery following the luncheon. After the committal, family and friends will gather at Brewer Park to further celebrate Woody's life. "Live free or die".

On Thursday, September 21, 2017, Mel Fryling, age 83, of Cutlerville, a child of God, entered his heavenly home and is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Mel loved his God and his family. He was the founder and operator of Fryling Electric for many years. He enjoyed gardening, walking and bicycling, fishing, and splitting wood. Lovingly known as "Pookie" to his family, Mel will be deeply missed by his children, Sandy VanAndel, Dan Fryling, Melodee (John) Harbison; grandchildren, Mark, Eric, Beth VanAndel, Julie (Leo) Wiseman, Bill (Lindsey) Fryling; great grandchildren, Isaac, Lyla, Cambree, Hannah, and one more yet to be born; sisters, Lois (Rich) Hoonhorst, Marlene Hawkins; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joanne (Mel) Gezon, Gladys (Sid) Draayer, Laura VanEerden; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Ruth; and parents, George and Johanna Fryling. The family will greet visitors at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave. SE, on Sunday, September 24, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm, and Monday, September 25, from 10 - 11 am where the service will begin at 11 am. Rev. Cal VanderMeyden will be officiating. Interment in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to World Renew for Hurricane Relief or to a charity of your choice.

Lucas Peter Yonker, age 21, of Alto, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Lucas had a strong faith in the Lord and was a hard worker, an avid hunter, and was looked up to by many. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Randy and Pam Yonker; his sisters, Lauren (Nick) Baker, Alyssa Yonker and friend, Dallas Brink; grandparents, Gerry Yonker, Ken and Sharron Vanden Berg; nephew, Aaron Baker; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. His grandfather, Allen Yonker, and cousin, Samuel Post, preceded him in death. The family will greet visitors at Ada Bible Church, 8899 Cascade Rd. SE, on Monday, September 25, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm, and Tuesday, September 26, from 10 - 10:45 am followed by the service at 11 am, Pastor Brian Vander Ark and Pastor Jeff Manion officiating. Interment in Bowne Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Caledonia High School F.F.A.

James L. Wykstra, age 70, of Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 22, 2017. Jim honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was an active member of VFW Post 830. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cris. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jamie (Joe) Iacovoni, Kristy (Jason) Hart; his grandchildren, Veronica, Therese, and Nicolette Iacovoni; his brothers and sisters, Carl (Linda) Wykstra, Joyce (Orlo) Hafer, Robert (Ev) Wykstra, Ruth (Eric) Nevins; many nieces and nephews; as well as his step-children and step-grandchildren. As Jim requested, cremation has taken place. His family will greet visitors on Friday, September 29, from 10 - 11 a.m. at Stroo Funeral Home, where a memorial service, including military honors, will begin at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow at VFW Post 830, 557 - 11th St. NW, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans or Faith Hospice.

Carolyn Westhouse, aged 88, of Moline, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Westhouse; sisters, Jeanette, Minnie, Janeva, Betty June; brothers, Andrew, Jozius, John, Peter; brothers-in-law, Garrett, Bill, Gus, and Alvin. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ed and Marilyn Westhouse, Mike and Pam Westhouse, Don and Mary Westhouse, Cherri Westhouse, David and Donna Westhouse; grandchildren, Amy, Jenny, Holly, Darcy, Leah, Keith, Scott, Tony, Jill, Sarah, Nick, Stacy, Emily; 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Adrianna Schut, Betty and Larry Potgeter; sisters-in-law, Johanna VanderKooi, Jenella and Harvey Kronemeyer, Diane Koster; brother-in-law, Abram and Lucille Westhouse; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was deeply loved and will be missed by her husband of 60 years, Al; her children, Todd (Judy) Hielkema, Michael (Amy) Hielkema; grandchildren, Danielle, Jenna, Zachery, Haleigh, Sydney Hielkema; great grandchildren, Caden, Ivan, Sawyer; sister and brother, Pearl (Larry) Ritsema, Dennis (Sue) Howerzyl; brothers-in-law, Arthur Hielkema, Harvey Hielkema, and Ed Winters. The funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, October 4, at Woodhaven Reformed Church, 3959 68th St. SW, with Rev. Dr. Steve Petroelje officiating. Interment in Winchester Cemetery. Darrell Huston Cromer

Memorials: to the Darrell Cromer Memorial Fund at any Chemical Bank branch for the benefit of his children
Darrell Huston Cromer, age 34, of Kentwood, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Darrell lived out his dream of being a U.S. Army soldier by serving for six years as an 82nd Airborne Cavalry Scout. After completing his military service, Darrell went on to work as a concrete finisher and was presently employed by Burgess Concrete. His grandparents, Huston and Helen Cromer, and Rondly and Edna Oswald, preceded him in death. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of nine years, Chelsey; his children, Natalie and Tyler; parents, Rodney and Kathy Cromer; sister and brothers, Renee and David Atwood, Andrew and Cari Cromer, Kyle and Ashley Cromer; parents-in-law, Steve and Sharon Walcott; sister-in-law, Alex Walcott; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and dear friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Ada Bible Church, Kentwood Campus, 2045 - 68th St. SE. A memorial service celebrating Darrell's life will be held 11 am Friday, October 6, at the church, with Pastor Ben Vaught officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Darrell Cromer Memorial Fund at any Chemical Bank branch for the benefit of his children.
