Nieto, Marisa Paula
December 5, 1979 - February 13, 2004
Marisa Paula Nieto, 24, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2004, at her home.
Funeral Services for Marisa will be held on Tuesday, February 17, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Alma College Chaplain Christine Vogel officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Mid Michigan or the University of Michigan (ECMO Department). Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.
Marisa was born December 5, 1979, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Betsey (Halter) Nieto. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1998. Marisa was currently a senior at Alma College and planned to be a psychologist working with children who had cancer. Marisa was employed at JC Penney’s as a sales associate since 1997. Marisa enjoyed shopping, collecting, and doing cross stitch. One of her favorite pastimes was to sit in her glider in her pajamas making lists of things she needed. Marisa had a special cat Misses and loved all of her dogs.
Marisa is survived by her mother Betsey Halter of Rosebush; her father Dr. Arthur (JoAnne) Nieto of Forest, VA; her brother Chris A. Nieto of Tempe, AZ; her sister Sophie J. Nieto of Rosebush; her grandfathers Russ Halter of Phoenix, AZ and Arthur Nieto of Albuquerque, NM.; her aunts and uncles Kathy (Steve) Oakley of MN, Mark (Sue) Halter of WI, John (Jan) Halter of MN, Jim Halter of MN, Patricia Gilberto of NM, Robert (Laurie) Nieto of CA, and Steve (Gina) Nieto of OH; and many cousins.
Marisa was preceded in death by her grandmothers Lois Halter in 1984 and Melba Nieto in 1996.
Marisa’s family would like to express their gratitude to Randi and Gregg Beeg, the Saltarelli Family, the Sheppard Family, all of Marisa’s friends at JC Penney’s and Alma College; to the doctors and great nurses and lab personnel at CMCH, U of M Hospital, and Sparrow Hospital. The family is very grateful to 3 special angels Vanda, Kay, and Martha who made the trip to Ann Arbor possible.
Dorman, John
November 12, 1939 - February 10, 2004
John Dorman, 64, of Lake Isabella, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at his home.
John was born on November 12, 1939 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of John Dorman and Lois Fraser Barrett. On October 10, 1957, he married the former Jacqueline Koester. After over 30 years of employment at Consumers Energy, he retired in 1998 to Lake Isabella. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of Christ, currently treasurer on the Board of Directors for Furry Friends For Life and served in the past as president of the Shepherd, Michigan Lions Club and also as president of the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce. John enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, fishing and reading.
John is survived by his wife, Jackie Dorman; three sons and their wives, John (Melissa) of Taylor, Jeff (Beth) of Grand Rapids and Jason (Darrah) of Hudsonville; five grandchildren, Angelina, Jonathon, Connor, AnnaMarie and William; a brother, Richard (Laurie) of Canton; a sister-in-law, Nancy (John) Gerhard of Lake Isabella; two nephews, Davey Gerhard and Rick (Nita) Dorman and a niece, Debbie (Shawn) LaRue.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, the 14th of February at 1 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Church of Christ, 1033 South Brown, Mount Pleasant, Michigan with Gary Lutes officiating. Friends wanting to make a memorial contribution may wish to consider Furry Friends For Life. Donations may be sent to 1208 Queensway, Lake Isabella, Michigan 48893. Hall, Norbert
May 15, 1926 - February 9, 2004
Norbert “Bud” Edward Hall, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, went to be with his savior, on Monday, February 9, 2004. His earthly journey ended at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Bud was born May 15, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Edwin Wayne and Nellie Margaret (Kissane) Hall. He married Ruth Arlene Prell on August 13, 1947 in Hawks, Michigan. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. serving during World War II then attended Central Michigan University. He was employed by McFarland’s Dairy as a milkman for 25 years but was most well known throughout the community for Buds TV & Radio Repair, which he owned and operated for 41 years. Bud was a former Communications Officer for the Civil Air Patrol, a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church and a former member of the Vocational Electronics Advisory Board at Mt. Pleasant High School. Bud was a lifetime sportsman and deer hunter.
Bud is survived by his wife, Ruth of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Linda Hall of Winn, Patrick (Paula) Hall of Blanchard, Deb (Steve) Fish of Mt. Pleasant, James E. (Colleen) Hall of St. Louis, Greg (Joy) Hall of Lake, Peggy (Brad) Heffner of Ithaca, Jeff (Connie) Hall of Shepherd, Nora (Phillip) Hagen of Mt. Pleasant and Cheri Hall of Mt. Pleasant; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Harlen (Gladys) Hall, Leland (Dinah) Hall of Mt. Pleasant and Curtis (Julie) Hall of St. Louis, MI; sisters, Geraldine (Don) Stinson of Fort Wayne, IN, Carol (John) Smith of Beal City and Janet (Joe) Henshaw of Plymouth, MI.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia Hall and Marilyn Aldrich.
Funeral Services for Bud will be held on Friday, February 13th at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Preston in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Mike Biedenbender officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 12th from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, February 13th from 9 until time of the service at Faith Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or CMCH Cancer Fund. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and Faith Lutheran Church.
Whitman, Robert
May 4, 1982 - February 6, 2004
Robert “Bob” Lee Whitman, 21, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2004, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral Services for Bob will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 1 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Obrecht of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow in the Kelly cemetery in Oil City.

Bob was born May 4, 1982, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Charles and Geraldine (Higbee) Whitman. He was a 2001 graduate from Shepherd High School. Bob was employed as a welder for Morbark Industries. He enjoyed snowmobiling, basketball, hunting, bowling, racing, fishing and camping.
Bob is survived by his fiancee’ Jennifer Williamson of Mt. Pleasant; his parents Charles and Geraldine Whitman, his brother Mike Whitman, and sister Kelly Whitman, of Mt. Pleasant; and his grandparents; and his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald and Doris Higbee.
Kennedy, Richard L.
July 6, 1932 - February 3, 2004
Richard L. Kennedy, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at his home.
Funeral Services for Richard will be held on Friday, February 6, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5, from 6-9 p.m. and on Friday, February 6, from 9 a.m. until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel. Richard was born on July 6, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Monty and Margaret (Sharrar) Kennedy. He married Adonna Freeman on September 5, 1959. Richard enjoyed working at Giant and Walmart. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, an active member in the Methodist Men, chairing Beef dinners for 22 years. He enjoyed working with students for exchange programs and was National Director of the Student Exchange Association. His hobbies included tinkering around the house.
Richard is survived by his wife, Adonna; children, Kathy (Alan) Johns, Steve (Susan) Kennedy, Dave Kennedy, all of Mt. Pleasant and Dan Kennedy of Bay City; grandchildren, Ashley Jarrett, Ryan Johns, Travis Johns, Melissa Tilmann and Joey Kennedy, great-grandchild, Madison Roosa and best friend Max.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Graham, Wanda
July 12, 1928 - January 30, 2004
Wanda Graham, 75, of Weidman, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2004, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral Services for Wanda will be held on Tuesday, February 3, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Dean Willard of the Weidman Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery.

Wanda was born July 12, 1928, in Winn, the daughter of John and Elvah (Rhynard) Gott. She was a graduate of Farwell High School and the New York Institute of Photography. She married Meryl Arleigh Graham who preceded her in death. Wanda was employed for 17 years by Ferro Manufacturing on the assembly line. She also was a professional photographer for Graham Photo in Weidman. Wanda was a member of the O.E.S.-Weidman, Blackmer-Thompson V.F.W. Post Auxiliary 4106, Weidman Baptist Church, TOPS-Weidman, and many bowling leagues. She loved being called “Grandma” by many children. Wanda was active in motorcycling as well as building and racing cars and motorcycles. She also enjoyed knitting, cooking, making pies, playing bingo, reading, and collecting antiques.
Wanda is survived by her special friend Don Carey of Weidman; her children, Rebecca Brown (David) of Mt. Pleasant, Deborah Graham of Osawatomie, KS; 6 grandchildren, Michael Brown, Kyle Brown, Kristopher Haney, Joey Haney, Matthew Haney, and Aric Graham; 1 great-grandchild Pippa Dorice Anderson; brother Albert Gott of Lady Lake, FL; sister Bessie Allen of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephew.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Meryl and brothers John, Richard, and Carl Gott.
Elliott, Mary Eva
May 26, 1920 - January 30, 2004
Mary Eva Elliott, 83, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, January 30, 2004, at her residence.
Cremation has taken place per the wishes of Mrs. Elliott. A Memorial Service for Mary will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd at 11a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Ron Vredeveld officiate.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 1st from 4-7 p.m. and Monday, February 2nd from 4-7 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel.

Mary was born on May 26, 1920, in Albany, Kentucky, the daughter of James Elijah and Mary (Grider) Ferguson. She was married to Robert Austin Elliott who preceded her in death on October 13, 1982. Mary worked at the Flint School for the Deaf, Patterson Air Force Base and the Mt. Pleasant Center for 23 years before retiring in 1989. She enjoyed quilting and gardening flowers.
Mary is survived by her children, Fred D. (Carol) Elliott of Perry, MI, Ann Elliott of Mt. Pleasant, Robert L. Elliott of California, Michael D. (Kim) Elliott of Mt. Pleasant, Richard J. Elliott of Conway, SC and Jeffrey L. (Gail) Elliott of Mattawan, MI; grandchildren, Mark, Amy, Shelly House-Myers, Janice House-DeGrandchamp, Jason, Jill, Jonathon, Nathan, Andrew, Austin and Alaina; eleven great-grandchildren and brother, Smith Ferguson of Detroit, MI.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; two grandchildren, Christopher and Adam; brothers, James, Rex and Leland; sister, Ann Harbison and her parents.
Arts, Donald L.
April 2, 1923 - January 27, 2004
Donald L. Arts, age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Gratiot Community Hospital.
Funeral Services for Donald will be held on Saturday, January 31st at 1 p.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The Dr. Rev. Jana Lynn Almeida and Pastor Ray Freeze will officiate. Interment will take place in the Gilmore Twp. cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30th from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel.

Donald was born on April 2, 1923 in Blanchard, Michigan, the son of Perry and Minnie (Kimball) Arts. He served in the United States Army during WWII were he received a Purple Heart. Donald married the former Donna Rodgers who preceded him in death in August 2000. He worked for the Local 324 Operating Engineers for over 40 years. Donald was a member of the National Harley Davidson owner Association and the Meijers Coffee Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle and gardening.
Donald is survived by his companion Sandy Lenon of Mt. Pleasant; son, Derwin (Sharon) Arts of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Bill (Loretta) Arts of Sanford, Ervin (Gerri) Arts of Clare and Gail (Donna) Arts of St. Louis, MI; sisters, Elnor Carll of Mt. Pleasant and Audrey (Victor) Pyrett of Lake Isabella and many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, brother, Ralph Arts, one infant brother and his parents.
Koester, Mae E.
January 10, 1917 - January 26, 2004
Mae E. Koester, 87, of Lake Isabella passed away on January 26, 2004.
Mae was born on January 10, 1917, the daughter of Chester and Maude (Taylor) Blake. She married William Koester who preceded her in death in 1993. Mae was employed as a bus driver for handicapped children for 10 years for the Pilgrim's Project.
Mae is survived by her children William Koester, Jacqueline M. Dorman (John) of Lake Isabella, and Nancy J. Gerhard (John) of Lake Isabella; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister Minnie Clark of St. Charles, MI.
Fortner, Dorothy Lillian
June 1, 1913 - January 25, 2004
Dorothy L. Fortner, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Central Michigan Community Hospital with her family by her side.
Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, January 29th at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Pastor Ron Vredeveld will officiate with interment in the Riverside cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 27th from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, January 28th from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy was born June 1, 1913 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The daughter of Harry and Florence (Pell) Cosford. She was a Corporal in the Army and a proud veteran serving at Vaughn General Hospital in Chicago. Dorothy married Clarence Fortner on October 11, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant. She worked at Palmers Drug Store and Oren’s Department Store. Dorothy had a great love for animals. She enjoyed feeding birds all year round in her yard, reading, sewing and visiting with friends. Dorothy loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Lois (Ed) Peters of Mt. Pleasant and Cathy Fortner of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren, Lori Dingman, Jamie (Scott) Raymond, Natalie Fortner, Scott Fortner, Amy Ingleheart, Andrew (Jen) Fortner, Shaun Peters and Ernest Peters; thirteen great-grandchildren Stayse, Bryantt, Joshua, Devlin, Jacob, Baylee, Olivia, Ada, Anthony, Darrian, Rachel, Haley and Sara.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; brother, Harry Cosford and son, John Fortner.
Conley, Linda Lee
January 5, 1952 - January 24, 2004
Linda Lee Conley, 52, of Farwell passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Northwoods Nursing Center in Farwell.
Linda was born on January 5, 1952, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Loyd and
Delma (Falconer) Conley.
Linda is survived by her sisters, E. June Wilcox of Arizona, Sharon Woodcock of Montana and Lucy (Rodney) Mateman of Farwell; brothers, Glen E. Conley of Clare and Patrick Conley of Mt. Pleasant; a godchild, Sierra Raglin of Nevada.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Edna Brasher.
Per Linda’s wishes cremation and private family services have taken place.
