NORMALEEN RUTH SORENSEN
Normaleen Ruth Sorensen, 75, of Burnside Twp. Brown City, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at Marlette Community Hospital in Marlette, Michigan.
She was born February 1, 1926 in Marlette, Michigan the daughter of the late William and Mae (Brown) Cooper.
She was a lifelong area resident, a 1944 graduate of Marlette High School.
She married
Frederick S. Sorensen on February 2, 1946 in Juhl, Michigan, he died on February 25, 2000.
Normaleen was a homemaker and worked on the farm.
She is survived by one daughter Charlene and David Gingell of Brown City; one son William Sorensen of Brown City; two grandsons Fredric Gingell and Destain Gingell of Brown City; one brother William and Sandi Cooper of Marlette; one sister Ruthaleen and Clare Richardson of Marlette, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother James, and a sister Una Ingalsbee.
Visitations were held at the Marsh Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 3-9 and on Monday from 2-9. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Larry VanSlambrook officiating.
Burial was held in the Marlette cemetery in Marlette, MI.
Casketbeares were Larry Kohler, Donald Martus, Jerry Cooper, Mel Bednaryczk, Duane Campbell, Dick Crothers. Honorary Casketbeares were Fredric Gingell, and Destain Gingell.

LOWELL R. COTTER
Lowell R. Cotter, 90, a life long resident of Marlette, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
He was born on November 2, 1909, the son of the late Leslie and Flora (Howard) Cotter.
He married
Sylvia Wilber on September 29, 1928 in Boyne City, Michigan. She preceded him in death on November 11, 1982.
He worked for the Sanilac County Road Commission, Guerdon Industries and was an auto mechanic.
Survivors include a daughter, Belva and Robert Clark of Marlette; two granddaughters, Cathy Brown of Marlette and Connie and Frank Easlick of Kingston; six great-grandchildren, Rebekka, Derik, and Melissa Brown of Marlette and Amanda, Gary and Emily Taylor of Kingston; and one sister, Margie Jackson of Imlay City, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; parents, Leslie and Florence Cotter; a son, Albert Cotter; a grandson, Craig Clark; and brothers, Cecil and Vernon Cotter.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 12, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Pastor Tim Perrin of the Hope Lutheran Church officiating.
Interment was at the Marlette cemetery.
Acting casket bearers were Leslie Jackson, Roger Jackson, Mike Jackson, Derik Brown, Kevin Turner and Russell Apple.
Memorials may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church of United Hospice.
L. GENEVIEVE CURTIS
L. Genevieve Curtis, age 80, of Marlette, Michigan died Monday, September 25, 2000 at The Arbors of Toledo Nursing Home in Toledo, Ohio.
She was born February 13, 1920, in Pontiac, Michigan daughter to the late Floyd and Flora (Thompson) Reid.
She graduated from Kingston High School in 1938. Married Clifford Curtis June 25, 1938 in Kingston, Michigan, he preceded her in death on April 7, 1976.
Mrs. Curtis has lived in the Marlette area since 1940.
He was the head cook for Marlette High School for 10 years, retiring in 1980.
She is survived by three daughters: Nancy and Ken Chard of Fort Myers, FL, Ruth and John Kopko of Kingston, MI, Diane and Max Foster of Marlette; one sister Frances Ruggles of Holland, MI, Carolyn Curtis Bonner daughter-in-law of Airy, MD, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, her parents Floyd and Flora Reid, son Eugene Curtis, brothers Clayton Reid and Clark Garra.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 28, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, MI with Eric Foster officiating. Burial has held in the Marlette cemetery in Marlette. Memorials may be given to the Marlette Community Hospital or the donation of your choice.
Casket Bearers were: Greg Chard, Jeff Chard, John A. Kopko Jr., Brian Curtis, David Mason, Greg Seiman, Ken Kooy, Matt Kopko, Danny Negin and Bill Herron.

THOMAS DALE ELLIOTT
Thomas Dale Elliott, age 79, of Sebring, FL. died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 at his Sebring residence. He was born on October 24, 1920 in Fenton, MI. The son of Eldred E. and Ida (Kjose) Elliott. He was raised in Marlette, MI. and graduated from Marlette High School in 1938. In his youth he was a middle weight boxer in the Golden Gloves.
He served in the Marine Corps during WWII, a recipient of the purple heart. He married
Margie Wanklin in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1995.
He retired as a rural mail carrier from the Marlette Post Office in 1979 after 28 years. In 1968 Tom was chosen "Outstanding Carrier of the Year," one of the highest awards that can be given a mail carrier, by the National Rural Letter Carriers Assn. He served as Chaplain for the Rural Letter Carriers Assn. for many years.
He was chaplain of the American Legion Post 162, Marlette, MI. for 14 years. He was Cubmaster of Boy Scout Pack #328 in Marlette and served as chaplain for the Boy Scout Blue Water Council for many years.
In 1972, he became a full pledged Baptist Minister. His first church was the Clifford Baptist Church, Clifford, MI. He was an avid poet and he had 3 books printed of his poems.
He left Marlette in 1979. They lived in Wichita, KS, Bethany, OK and in 1985 they moved to Sebring, FL.
He is survived by his 2nd wife, Gloria (McClane) Elliott of Sebring, son Thomas and wife of Perris, CA, son Mark and family of Oklahoma City, OK and daughter Karen Rhodes and family of Raleigh, NC. Sisters, Dorothy Moore of Clifford, MI, Wilma Woodard of Sandusky, and Marilyn Hanchuck of Rocky Mount, NC. and brothers, Jim and Bob Elliott, both of Marlette. Ten grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Stella Tubbs, a brother Orville, a sister Helen Buckley and a grandson, Matthew Scott son of Mark and Jeannie Elliott.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 at Maranatha Baptist Church, Sebring, with burial at Florida National cemetery Bushnell, FL. Arrangements by Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring, FL.
WAYNE KELLY
Wayne Kelly, 57, a farmer and carpenter of Kingston, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a life long area resident.
He was born on October 2, 1942 in Marlette, son to Harold and Ruth (Anderson) Kelly. He graduated from Marlette High School in 1960.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Kelly of Kingston; a brother, Loren and Linda Kelly; three nephews, Kevin and Melissa Kelly of Kingston, Brent and Melissa Kelly of Kingston and Kraig and Karyn Kelly of Howell, MI.; and three great nieces, Taylor, Ali and Brenna Kelly of Kingston.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and a brother, Howard.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 4, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chappel, Marlette with Rev. Gary Butterfield of the Lamotte Missionary Church officiating.
Burial was at the Marlette cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the donation of choice.
Casketbearers were Kevin Kelly, Brent Kelly, Kraig Kelly, LaVern Anderson, Eugene Anderson, and Jerry Anderson. Honorary casketbearers were Walt Kelly and Lee Kelly.
ARLENE THOMPSON
Arlene Thompson, 86, passed away Friday, July 28, 2000 in Glendale, Arizona.
She was born in Gladwin, Michigan on May 26, 1914, the daughter of the late Aldred "A. R." and Martha Elliott Schlichter.
Arlene and Lionel "Salty" Thompson were married
on April 19, 1936, at the home of her parents in Marlette. She and her husband, "Salty", were long time business partners and owners of Schlichter True Value Hardware in Marlette.
She was a member and organist of the Marlette United Methodist Church for many years. She was also active in the choir at both the Caseville United Methodist Church and later at Velda Rose United Methodist Church in Mesa, Arizona.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Hugh Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Patricia (George) Heintz of Marlette; a daughter-in-law, Mary Thompson Brown of Marlette; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lionel "Salty" Thompson, their son, Lionel "Tony" Thompson; and her sister, Ann Horton.
Services were held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, August 2, 2000. There will be a memorial service conducted in Marlette at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Hospice, or the Marlette or Caseville United Methodist Church.

GEORGE PETER FERGUSON
George Peter Ferguson, age 59, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000 at Marlette Community Hospital in Marlette, Michigan. Mr. Ferguson lived in Marlette, Michigan for 39 years.
Mr. Ferguson was born September 20, 1940 in Decker, Michigan son to the late Duncan and Ella (Sherman) Ferguson. He married
Donna Nichola August 15, 1959 in Gagetown, Michigan.
He was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and Clan Ferguson Society of North America. He was a mechanic for Huggett Sod Farms in Marlette.
He is survived by his wife Donna, two sons: Dale and Linda Ferguson of Bay City, MI, Peter and Sophia Ferguson of Marlette, MI.; two daughters: Robin and Dennis Ondrajka, Bonny Tracy both of Marlette, MI; four brothers: Frank and Gertrude Ferguson of Decker, MI, Archie and Jerry Ferguson of Kingston, MI, Duncan and Muriel Ferguson of Sandusky, MI, Hugh and Judy Ferguson of Marlette, MI; one sister: Annie and Richard Henderson of Marlette, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Duncan Gillies Ferguson, and his mother, Ella Mae Sherman, and brother Dugald Ferguson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, 1000 at 11:00 am at Marsh Funeral Chapel, in Marlette with Pastor Tim Perrin of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was held in the Grant Twp. cemetery in Gagetown, Michigan. Memorials may be given to the family.
Casket bearers: Frank, Archie, Duncan and Hugh Ferguson, Josh Tracy and Adam Ondrajka.
