ARTHUR J. SCHUNEMAN
Arthur J. Schuneman, 76, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan.
He lived in Shelby Township, Michigan since 1974, and was previously from Mt. Clemens, Michigan.
He was born on December 1, 1924 in Mt. Clemens, son of the late Albert and Emma (Werth) Schuneman.
He graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1942, received his B. S. degree in Engineering from U. of M.
He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII.
He married
Jane Cameron on July 11, 1959 in Snover, Michigan. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1989.
He was a member of the Riverwood Community Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
He worked as an engineer for the Warren Tank Plant and General Motors Technical Center in Warren for several years until his retirement.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Schuneman of Shelby Township; a daughter, Susan and David Wilkie of Auburn Hills, Michigan; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Jilian, Jonathan and Josiah Wilkie of Auburn Hills; a nephew, Howard Schuneman of Florida and a niece, Rosemary Litogot of Cape Coral, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Howard Schuneman.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Roger Reibling officiating. Interment will be in Mooretown cemetery in Snover.
Memorials may be given to the Riverwood Community Church in Sterling Heights, or the American Diabetes Association.
CARL H. JAMES JR.
Carl H. James Jr., age 46, of Deford, Michigan, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at Hill & Dales General Hospital in Cass City, MI.
Mr. James lived in Deford, Michigan for 5 years and was previously from Decker, MI.
He was born May 9, 1954 in Thompson, Georgia son to Charles H. and Irene (Brown) James. He graduated from Marlette Community High School in 1972 and married
Susan Sherman September 27, 1980 in Cass City, Michigan.
He is survive by his wife Susan, mother Irene James of Marlette, MI, three sons: Shawn Sherman, Jason James, and Cody James all of Deford, MI; two daughters: Niecole Hoist of Deckerville, MI Heather James of Deford, MI; one brother: William and Jeanine James of Cedar Lake, IN; three sisters: Betty and Ron Firmingham of Brown City, Carla and Fred Masson of Twining, MI, JoAnn and Roland Smith of Mexico City, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl H. James and brother Jerry James.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Lamotte Missionary Church with Rev. Roland Smith and Rev. Gary Butterfield officiating.
Burial was held in the Indianfields cemetery in Caro. Memorials may be given to the family.
MARILYN BEATRICE FISCHER
Marilyn Beatrice (Crothers) Fischer, age 72, went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2001 at their winter home in Florida after a lengthy illness.
Marilyn was born October 22, 1928, in Marlette. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Crothers.
She married
Leland Fischer on October 30, 1948 in Marlette. They where both members of the Marlette Our Savior Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband Leland Fischer, two sons: Allan (Angela) Fischer of Marlette, Mark Fischer of Texas and one foster son Kenneth Fischer of Sandusky, one sister Lois (John) Lindsay of California, and three grandchildren Sandy, David, and Michael Fischer.
She was preceded in death by one brother Arthur Crothers of Marlette and one grandson Mark Duane Fischer of Texas.
Memorial services will be held at the Our Savior Lutheran Church at a later date. Pastor Eric Kilmer of the Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be at the Germania cemetery.
VIRGINIA MARIE DRAPER
Virginia M. Draper, age 74, of Clifford, Michigan, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at her home. Mrs. Draper has live in the Clifford area most of her life and was previously from Bad Axe, Michigan.
She was born April 30, 1926 in Bad Axe, Michigan daughter to the late Albert and Nettie (Paison) Mayhew. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1945 and married
Charle B. Draper September 28, 1946 in Bad Axe, Michigan, he passed away October 16, 1977.
She was a former member of the Clifford United Methodist Church. She worked for Mayville Molding Co. and was a Nurses Aid at the Marlette Community Hospital until her retirement in 1994.
She is survived by two sons: Charles and Bev. Draper of Imlay City, MI, Edwin and Linda Draper of Clifford, MI, three daughters: Beth and Rod Charbeneau of Grand Prairie, TX, Ellen and Ken Comfort of Addison, AL, Patricia and Glenn Tatgenhorst of Clifford, MI One brother: Frank and Sue Mayhew of North Port, AL, two Sisters: Doris and Carl Tianen of Bad Axe, MI, Margaret and Don Chisholm, of Cass City, Mi, Lila Draper daughter-in-law of Marlette, MI twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, father Albert Mayhew, mother Nettie Paison and son Ron Draper.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, MI, with Pastor Daniel Bowman of Marlette United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be at the Siple cemetery in Marlette.
Memorials may be given to the Seton Cancer Institute in care of the Marlette Community Hospital.
MARGARET A. HOIG
Margaret A. Hoig, age 66, a home maker, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan.
Mrs. Hoig lived in Clifford, Michigan for 57 years.
She was born September 20, 1934 in Pontiac, Michigan daughter to the late Albert and Ruth (Paul) Kitts. She married
Merle Hoig June 19, 1954 in Clifford, Michigan, he passed away January 9, 1987.
Mrs. Hoig was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clifford, Michigan.
She is survived by two sons: Robert Hoig and Fiancee Penny of Marlette, MI, Lee Hoig of Clifford, MI, three daughters: Anna and Martin Contreras of Clifford, MI, Mary Hoig of Clifford, MI, Lori and Donald Hoig of Brown City, MI, two brothers: Thomas and Filena Kitts of North Branch, MI and Patrick Kitts of Owosso, MI, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael and brothers John Paul, William, Robert and Paul Kitts.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 2, 2001 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clifford, Michigan with Fr. Jude Ellinghausen officiating.
Burial was held in the St. Patrick's cemetery in Clifford, Michigan. Memorials may be given to the donation of your choice.
ROBERT WALLIS STRICKLER
Robert Wallis Strickler, 87, of Marlette, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Marlette, MI.
He was born October 18, 1913 in Flynn Twp., Marlette, Michigan the son of the late Ernest and Bertha (Wallis) Strickler.
He married
Edith Wehrwein on December 22, 1935 in Melvin, Michigan. She died on January 19, 1990.
He was a lifelong area resident, a farmer, a welder for Square Tube in Marlette for approximately 17 years and also worked for a time at Buick Motors in Flint, Aunt Janes Pickle Factory in Croswell, and Michigan Sugar in Croswell.
He is survived by one daughter, Athlene and Richard Spear of Marlette; two sons, Lee Strickler of Marlette and Chris and Brenda Strickler of Marlette; five grandsons: Allyn, Nathan, Matthew, Jerrun and Michelle, and Ryan and Joanne; and one great grandchild.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Amelia Lamphere.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Tim Rich officiating.
Burial was held in the Zion cemetery in Watertown. Memorials request to The Gideons, or The Clifford Baptist Church, Piano Fund.
HARRIETTE ANN DIEGEL
Harriette Ann Diegel, 76, of Marlette, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Bay Medical Center in Bay City, Michigan.
She was born January 6, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late Walter and Harriette (Walker) Leonard. She moved to Marlette in 1988 from the Detroit area.
Harriette married
Philip Diegel on October 13, 1951 in Detroit, MI. She was a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School, Detroit and Mary Grove College with a degree in Home Economics.
She worked in Food Service for many years, she also served on the Detroit Public Schools, Board of Education for 4 years and was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Clifford and the church Rosary Society.
She is survived by her husband Philip, three daughters: Phyllis Diegel of Washington D.C., Judy Wyke of Detroit, Mary Beth Trisko of Detroit, seven sons: Mark Diegel of Detroit, Brent Diegel of Georgia, Theodore Diegel of Dearborn, John Paul Diegel of Detroit, Philip Diegel of Detroit, David Diegel of Detroit and Joseph Diegel of Marlette, and 7 grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. No Services are planned at this time.
Memorials may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Detroit through the family.

JOHN GURAL
John Gural, age 81, of Silverwood died February 13, 2001 at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1919 in Detroit, MI to William and Anna (Blasco) Gural.
He served his country in the Army during WWII. He retired from Truck and Coach in 1975, after 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing pool and his convertible care. John was a member of the North Branch American Legion Post #457.
He is survived by sisters: Sandra Hines of FL, Olga (Metro) Sokolik of Dearborn Heights, Ann (David) Bruise of North Branch, Marion (Ed) Ferkowicz of Smiths Creeks, Rose Marie Ketchel of Howell; brothers Mike (Joetta) Gural of Ohio, Tony (Janice) Gural of Arizona; Sister-in-law, Ann Gural of Detroit, many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank in 1997, infant brother, William Fredrick, and brother-in-law, Steven Edward Ketchel.
Memorial may be made to the North Branch American Legion Post #457.
The pallbearers were David, Dan, and Robert Brusie, Gregory and John Sokolik, Mark and Michael Ferowicz.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 am Feb. 17, 2001 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with Fr. Judge Ellinghausen officiating. The burial was held in Rich Twp. cemetery.
