WAYNE B. BAER
Wayne B. Baer, age 80, died Monday, January 14, 2002 at Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron, Michigan.
He was a life long resident of the Marlette area.

He was born July 20, 1921 in Snover, Michigan son to the late Allen and Clarissa (Johnson) Baer.

He served in the U.S. Army Air core during WWII where he was a P.O.W. for six months.

Wayne married Phyllis McMann August 31, 1946 in Marlette, Michigan.

He worked for Guerdon Industry in Marlette for 18 years and also farmed.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, three sons: Ralph and Sandy Baer of Columbiaville, MI; Paul and Cheryl Baer of Carsonville, MI; Dennis and Kimberly Baer of MI; grandson: Corey Baer of Deckerville, MI, grand daughter: Melissa Baer of Marlette, MI; one brother: Clayton and Betty Baer of Snover, MI; two sisters: Alice Hudson of Marlette, MI; Bessie and Elden Phetteplace of Sandusky, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wilford, George, and Clare Baer and sisters Ida Allen and Vera Young.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at 11:00 am at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating.

Burial was held in the Moshier cemetery in Hemans.

Memorials may be given to the donation of your choice.

DONNA M. SMITH
Donna (Stephens) Smith, age 48 of National City, Michigan formally of Fostoria, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4, 2002.
She was born on April 15, 1953 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Robert and Mae Dawn (Dee) Stephens.

She graduated from Mayville High School in 1971. On June 19, 1971 she married Terry L. Smith in Fostoria.

She was a life long resident of the Fostoria area, a member of the F.H.A. and worked for Ligon Brothers Industries in Almont and Save A Lot grocery store in East Tawas.

Survivors include her husband Terry Smith, one son: Terry D. Smith of National City, Michigan three daughters: Tammy Smith of Davison, MI, Michelle Smith of North Branch, MI, Linda (Michael) Gemma of Norfolk, VA, parents Robert and Mae Dawn (Dee) Stephens of Columbiaville, MI, three brothers: Roger (Celia) Stephens of Davison, MI, Gary (Janeene) Stephens of Millington, MI, Terry Stephens of Otter Lake, MI, one sister: Barbara (Charles) Harris of ElCajon, CA, brother-in-law Calvin Perez of Santee, CA, five grandchildren Kala, Tyler, Austin, Zachary, and Kyra.

She is preceded in death by brother Garth Stephens and sister Marie Perez.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 7, 2002 at 11:00 am at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Keith Mead officiating. Burial was held in the Watertown Twp. cemetery in Fostoria, MI.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Casket bearers: Randy King, Scott Krueger, Larry Smith Jr., Ron Stephens, Rob Stephens and William Boggs Sr.

EDWIN J. BARNES
Edwin J. Barnes, age 70, died Thursday, January 3, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan.
Mr. Barnes was a life long area resident of Decker, Michigan.

He was born February 24, 1931 in Port Huron, Michigan son to the late James and Laura (Hill) Barnes.

He married Joyce Kritzman July 9, 1955 in Cass City, Michigan.

Edwin served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He worked for Buick Motors in Flint for thirty years until his retirement in 1984.

He is survived by his wife Joyce, sons: Harold (Linda) Barnes, Douglas (Patty) Barnes of Snover, MI, daughters: Jacquelyn (Randy) Smith, Edwina (Edward) Phetteplace of Decker, MI, seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Verna Miller.

Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations may be given to the memorial of your choice.

ELLA (MAE) SAUDER
Ella M. Sauder, age 97, died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at Autumwood of Deckerville in Deckerville, Michigan.
He has lived in Deckerville, MI the past 6 years and was previously from Marlette and Sabetha, Kansas.

She was born March 25, 1904 in Table Rock, Nebraska, daughter to the late Thomas and Mary (Jasa) German.

She attended schools in Preston and Falls City, Nebraska.

Ella Mae worked as a Telephone operator in Preston, Nebraska.

She married Will John Sauder, he passed away August 27, 1969.

She and her husband moved to Sabetha, Kansas in 1961 where they operated Cowpoke Trailer Park for 6 years. They also where herdsmen in Humboldt, Nebraska, farmed and raised Hereford cattle in Oregon & Pennsylvania and also ran sales of show cattle.

She is survived by son Iris Sauder of Nebraska, son-in-law Robert Walker of Marlette, MI, grand daughter Cynthia (Lee) Wood of Shelby Twp., MI, Grandson William (Connie) Walker of Marlette, MI six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Clifford, daughter Rosemary, Walker, brothers Ray and John, sisters Nora, Flora, Emma and Elma. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, MI Memorial service will be held at a later date in Sabetha, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Sanilac Humane Society.

Arrangement were made by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Inc., Marlette, MI.

WERNER J. MATTSON
Werner J. Mattson, 98, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2001 at his home in Marlette. He had lived in Marlette since 1971 and was previously from the Ann Arbor area.
He was born on April 27, 1903 in Duluth, MN., son of the late John H and Hannah Mattson.

He married Helen Green on February 6, 1971 in Oxford, MI.

He was an office manager for U. of M. Ann Arbor for 16 years until his retirement in 1965. He also worked in Marlette for Schlichter's Hardware and Long's Furniture as an accountant and did custodial work at the Marlette Post Office.

Mr. Mattson was well known for his work for the Marlette Police Department as a Bea McDonald crossing guard for several years.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Caro, Mi. He was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on September 27, 1974 and Temple Sealing took place on November 13, 1976.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Marlette; sister-in-laws, Leota Lee of Marlette, Nelda Green of Brown City and June Green of Marlette; and several nieces, nephews and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Hamand and Victor Mattson.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at 12 noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Caro with President Ronald Wing officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview cemetery in Melvin.

Memorials may be given to the United Hospice Service.

Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

RICHARD B. VORE
Richard B. Vore, age 60, of Davisburg, MI died January 6, 2002 after a long battle with cancer.
He was retired from General Motors as General Supervisor of Metal Form Fab.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years Joan; Father of Kathy (Leo Hedger) Hoig of Clifford, Cece (Greg) Treece of Davisburg, Jodi (Dave) Paull of Davisburg, Terry (Sandy Flury) VanOrman, Jr. of Waterford and Tim (donna Rodriguez) VanOrtman of Clarkston. Also survived by a family he called his own, Donnie Hart of SC, Rhonda (Chad) Ferguson and their daughter Sidney of Yale; grandpa of Derek, Dylan,Abigail, Justin, Jessica, Ryan, Nicholas, Hailey, Chelsea, Michelle, Christopher, Melissa, Alexa, Ashley, and Cole; Son of Fred and Ruby Nation of KY and Gladys Vore of Arkansas; special angel to his aunt Lennie Pappas; brother of Ronald (Ginger) of FL, Gayle (Pat) Andrews of AR.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert "Rob" and father Daryl "Carl".

Funeral services Thursday 12:30 pm at the Lewis E. Wint & Son TRUST 100 Funeral Home, Clarkston.

Memorials may be made to Beaumont Hospice, American Cancer Society or the family.
