FRED F. SCHWENN
Fred F. Schwenn, 87, passed away Monday, January 21, 2002 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
He lived in Marlette the past two years and was previously from Mesa, Arizona and Wilmette, Illinois.
He was born on August 12, 1914 in Waunakee, Wisconsin, son of the late Frank and Emma (Vogts) Schwenn.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1936. He was the owner and publisher of the Modern Milk Haulers Magazine in Chicago, Illinois for 30 years until his retirement in 1976.
He attended the Marlette First United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Leisure World Lions Club in Mesa, AZ., Pastoral Care, A.A. and was a hospice volunteer.
He was a very devoted, strong religious supporter of the church.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary and Dick Anderson of Reno, NV., Elizabeth Ghatala of Liberty, NY. and Susan and Ted Huntoon of Marlette; five grandchildren, Anne McAvoy, Linda Tobi, Brian Huntoon, Fred J. Ghatala and Ariana Anderson and one great-granddaughter, Kimberlee McAvoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Anita, Margaret and Lefa; two sisters and two brothers.
Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, MI.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, January 26, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at the Marlette First United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Interment will take place at Memorial Park cemetery, Skokie, ILL. at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Marlette First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, or Teen Ranch.

EVELYN RUTH SMITH
Evelyn Ruth Smith, 83, a life long resident of Snover, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at the Marlette Extended Care Facility in Marlette.
She was born on June 28, 1918 in Snover, daughter to the late Harry and Frieda (Brandt) Falkenhagen.
She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1935.
She married
Phillip Smith on December 16, 1939 in Juhl, Michigan. He is currently a resident at the Marlette Extended Care Facility.
She was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church and Decker Eastern Star #438. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, camping and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Phillip; a daughter, Karen (Henry) Fuller of Snover; a son, Darrel (Beth) Smith of Grand Blanc; four grandchildren, Mark (Denise) Fuller of Brighton, Jeff (Kristin) Fuller of White Lake, Matthew (Manisha) Smith of Scottsdale, AZ. and Brad Smith of Asheville, NC.; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Pastor Lisa Shank officiating. Interment was in the Moore Township cemetery in Snover.
Memorials may be given to the Marlette Extended Care Facility Aquarium Fund.
An Eastern Star Memorial Service was conducted on Friday night at the funeral chapel.
CARL J. STEPHENS
Carl J. Stephens, 93, of Okeechobee, passed away Monday, December 31, 2001 at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility.
He was born on May 25, 1908 in Brown City, MI. He had been a resident of Okeechobee since 1987.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Stephens of Okeechobee; six sons, William Stephens of Trenton, MI., Gerald Stephens of California, James Stephens of Wakeman, Ohio, Edward Stephens of Horshoe Ben, Ark., Walter Stephens of Joliet, ILL. and Paul Stephens of Riverview, MI.; a daughter, Alice Crowley of Lakewood, California; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Stephen Gnandt of Maiden, N.C. and Frank Gnandt of Owosso, MI.; two step-daughters, Maryann Harris of Okeechobee and Elvira Lambert of Marlette.
Funeral services were conducted at the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph, Taylor, MI.
STEVEN JOSEPH MEFFER
Steven Joseph Meffer, 30, of Cass City, passed away Friday, January 18, 2002 from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident.
He was born March 8, 1971 in Grosse Pointe to John J. and Penny (Bennett) Meffer.
He graduated from Marlette High School.
He worked for CSS Concrete in Cass City, He enjoyed fishing, hunting, smowmachines, three wheelers and music. He loved his children and spent time working with them on the computer. He played trumpet in high school and occasionally joined in with friends playing bones and a little guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn M. Meffer; children, Steve Meffer, Samantha Meffer and Tyler Meffer all at home; parents, John and Penny Meffer of Bad Axe; brothers, Jim (Angie) Meffer of Gulliver and Johnny Meffer of Warren; sisters, Barbara (Jimmy ) Moase of Charlotte, NC. and Anita Meffer of Bad Axe; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Meffer and grandparents, John and Helen Meffer and Robert and Olive Bennett.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 21, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with Rev. Brian Cuddie of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Elkland Township cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be given to the Steven Meffer Children's Education Fund.

RENALD HOWARD
Renald (Rennie) Howard, 70, a life long resident of Marlette, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at his home.
He was born on August 18, 1931 in Marlette, the son of the late Floyd and Mildred (Cooper) Howard.
He graduated from Marlette High School in 1951.
He worked for Marlette Square Tube as a press operator for 20 years and also farmed.
He is survived by four sons, Herald (Schelly) Howard of Marlette, Ronald (Pam) Howard of Dannemora, NY., Michael (Shannon) Howard of Elba Twp., MI. and Rodney Howard of Marlette; one daughter, Lisa (Jim) Dockham of Waterford, MI.; brother, Bob Howard of Marlette; a sister, Grace E. (Jon) Allan of Plattsburgh, NY.; and six grandchildren, Herald Howard, Tiffany Howard, Aimee Farrell, Nicole Farrell, Nolan Farrell and Adam White.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Rick Turner officiating. Interment was at the Marlette cemetery.
Memorials may be made by the United Hospice Service.
Casketbearers were Jay Brown, Jim Dockham, Tom Irvine, Jack Burgess, Josh Irvine and Harold Howard Jr.
MICHELE (HUTCHINS) VENETTE
Michele L. Venette, 36, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002 at her home in Luzerne, Michigan.
She had lived in Luzerne for seven years and was previously from the Marlette area.
She was born on May 26, 1965 in Marlette, daughter to David and Mary (Schad) Hutchins.
She graduated from Marlette High School in 1983.
She worked for Lear Corporation in Marlette for four years and in Roscommon for two years.
She is survived by her parents, David and Mary Hutchins of Luzerne; three sisters, Tonya and Dan Krueger of Marlette, Yvonne and Don Pallas of Marlette and Stacie and Dan Stauffer of Marlette; two nephews, Michael Gonzalez and Cody Pallace of Marlette; and four nieces, Shaina Gonzalez, Rachel Pallace, Danielle Stauffer and Ashley Stauffer of Marlette.
Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, MI.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday, January 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Michael Hollenbeck officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Marlette Community Hospital or the Michigan Shriners.
Visitation with the family will start on Friday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service.

HELEN AND DAVID HUNTSBERRY
Helen L. (McCombs) Huntsberry, 76, passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2001 during her third battle with cancer at Neely Ray Hospice Home in Gilbert, Arizona.
She was born on September 27, 1925 in Marlette. She was the daughter to the late Meta (Heussner, McCombs) Pabst of Marlette and the late Charles McCombs. She also was a Marlette High graduate.
She married
David Huntsberry on June 8, 1946 in Marlette.
David L. Huntsberry, 76, passed away October 15, 2001 of liver cancer at Neely Ray Hospice Home in Gilbert, Arizona.
He was born September 17, 1925 in Nappanee, Indiana. He was the son to the late Mildred (Black) Huntsberry of Marlette and William Huntsberry.
The couple retired 12 years ago to Leisure World in Mesa, Arizona.
The couple is survived by two daughters, Kim Haftarczyk of LaHabra and Debra Rae of Sacramento, California; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
