DONALD RAY HOLMES
Donald R. Holmes, 61, of Marlette, formerly of Imlay City, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at his home in Marlette.
He was born on September 28, 1942 in Heber Springs, Arkansas son to the late Jimmie and Lorene (Bartlette) Holmes.

He married Martha Willis on April 2, 1967 in Detroit.

He worked for Mold Masters in Imlay City for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Martha of Marlette; son, Donnie and Jessica Holmes Jr. of Lake Orion, MI.; daughters, Carolyn and Matthew Albertson of Roscommon, Brenda and Todd Baden Sr. of St. Helen, MI. and Debbie and Larry LaCroix of Marlette; brother, Jimmy and Becky Holmes of Newport; a sister, Linda Holmes of Detroit; grandchildren, Tammy, T.J. and Alicia of St. Helen, Dylan of Lake Orion, Nathan and David of Roscommon, and Brittney, Krissy, Marissa and Zachary of Marlette.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 9, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Pastor Kent Hoggatt officiating. Interment was at the Marlette cemetery.

Casketbearers were Larry LaCroix, Todd Baden, Matthew Albertson, Jimmie Holmes Jr., Bobby Willis and John Idziak.

Memorials may be made to the family.

JAMES H. PARKER
James H. Parker, 51, of Flynn Township, Brown City, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at his home.
He was born on September 10, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan the son of James and Betty (Lambert) Parker.

He was a 1972 graduate of Sterling Heights Stevenson High School.

He served his country for eight years in the Navy.

He married Kim Sparks on May 12, 1978 in Utica, Michigan.

He owned and operated the Parker Brothers Tree Service and worked at Rochester Gear in Clifford for seven years.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; two sons, James J. Parker of Brown City and Charles L. Parker of Brown City; mother, Betty Parker of Sterling Heights; two brothers, John A. Parker of Sterling Heights and Douglas G. Parker of Tennessee and a sister, Patricia Meyer of Clinton Township.

He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Parker.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Pastor Edward Cash officiating. Interment was in Juhl cemetery.

Casketbearers were James J. Parker, Charles Parker, Shaun Parker, Daniel Parker, Bradley Metzer and Michael Pilarski.

Memorials may be made to the family.

KODA JAMES GONZALEZ
Infant child Koda James Gonzalez of Marlette passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Lapeer Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his father, Michael Gonzalez of Marlette; mother, Latina Smith of Marlette; grandparents, Tonya (Dan) Krueger of Marlette, Randy Gonzalez of Marlette and Janet (James) Allen of Marlette; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service was conducted on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marlette cemetery.

Interment was at the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.

IRIS JANE BARRONS
Iris J. Barrons, 69, passed away Monday, June 28, 2004 at the Marlette Community Hospital.
She lived in Kingston, Michigan for most of her life and was previously from the Oxford area.

She was born on April 28, 1935 in Oxford, Michigan, daughter to the late Raymond and Inez (Austin) Dawson.

She graduated from Kingston High School in 1954.

She married Robert Wilmot on November 21, 1959 in Wilmot, Michigan.

She married Jimmie Barrons on November 28, 1984 in Sandusky, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1992.

She was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wilmot.

She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, basketball and, most of all, her family.

She is survived by sons, Mark Wilmot of Davidson, MI. and Scott and Lisa Wilmot of Mayville, MI,; daughters, Carol and Carl Nicol of Kingston and Anne and David Long of Marlette; step-sons, Ron and Carmen Barrons of Marlette, Kevin and Amy Barrons of Grand Rapids, MI. and Thomas and Tammy Barrons of Florida; brothers, Larry and Barb Dawson of Arizona, William Dawson of Caro, MI. and Richard and Linda Dawson of Mt. Morris. MI.; sisters, Joan Nickens of Kingston and Barb of Kingston; grandchildren, Alecia, Dustin, Aaron, Nicole, Leigha, Taylor, Savannah and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmie; daughter, Renee; brother, Michael Dawson; and sisters, Lois Goodfellow and June Zyrowski.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Sr. Ruth Adamites and Rev. Gary Butterfield officiating. Interment was in the St. Michael's cemetery in Wilmot. Memorials may be made to the family.

Casketbearers were Dustin Wilmot, Mark Wilmot, Scott Wilmot, Dave Long, Carl Nicol, Aaron Nicol and Taylor Nicol.

BETTY A. BLISS
Betty A. Bliss, 74, of Zephyrhills, FL., passed away Friday, July 2, 2004 at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills.
A native of Toledo, Ohio, she moved to Zephyrhills in 1979 from Tampa. She was an accomplished seamstress and had been employed at both RayOs MenOs Wear and Quality Drapery House in Marlette, Michigan. She was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Marlette.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Charles "Alvin" Bliss of Zephyrhills; five children, Frank Bliss and his wife, Judy of Zephyrhills, Charles Bliss and his wife, Debra of Marlette, Linda Eagle and her husband, Jim of Sandusky, Michigan, Norm Bliss and his wife, Shellie of Marlette and Marilyn Davis and her husband, Robert of Zephyrhills; three sisters, Judi Brown and her husband, Tom, and Kathryn Johnson and Barb Johnson, all of Hillman, Michigan; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Gladys Johnson; a brother, William; and a sister, Mary.

BEATRICE L. (WILLIS) WEISS
Beatrice L. (Willis) Weiss, 89, of Jackson, formerly of Marlette, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Arbor Woods Assisted Living in Jackson, Michigan.
She was born on October 24, 1914 in Decker, Michigan, the daughter of the late Norman and Agnes (Hoagg) Lefler.

She married Robert Willis on September 12, 1934 in Marlette. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1962.

She married Herbert Weiss on December 6, 1969 in Marlette. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1979.

She was a 1932 graduate of Marlette High School.

She was a charter member of the Marlette Philomathean Club and a past matron and life member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Decker Chapter #438. She did a great deal of traveling, spending her winters in Clearwater, Florida and enjoyed dancing, golfing, bowling, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn and Lloyd McPherson of Charlotte, MI.; a son, Ronald F. Willis of Texas; grandchildren, Chandra (David) Cataline of Pleasant Lake, MI., David (Linda) McPherson of Osteen, FL., Melinda English of Indianapolis, IN. and Ronald (Tracy) Willis of Radford, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Cataline, Leslie Cataline and Danny Hignite; a sister, Olive Earl of Marlette; a sister-in-law, Ann Lefler of Lakeland, FL. and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by children, Robert C. Willis and Cheryl J. Willis; a stepfather, Rufus Walker; brothers, Grant, Clare, and Clayton Lefler and Howard Walker and a sister, Verna Racine.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating. Interment was at Marlette cemetery.

Casketbearers included Norm Lefler, Paul Lefler, Cal Lefler, Gary Earl, Bud Medford, and Dick Walker.

Wayne Adam was honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be made to the Marlette Community Hospital or Jackson County Hospice.

GERTRUDE GOODWINE
Gertrude Goodwine, 94, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron.
She lived in Marlette for 33 years and was previously from Rossville, Il.

She was born on August 11, 1909 in Flemingburg, KY., daughter to the late Arthur and Evamae (Parker) Kelly.

She married Lewis Alexander on December 21, 1947 in Danville, Il. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1964.

She married Gilbert Goodwine on July 14, 1968 in Rossville. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1990.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Potomac, Il and the Marlette Second Presbyterian Church.

She was a teacher for 28 years until her retirement in 1968.

She is survived by sons, Lewis (Ann) Alexander of SanJose, CA. and Gary (Sue) Alexander of West Palm Beach, FL,; nephews, Wayne Goodwine of Port Huron and John Goodwine of Marlette; nieces, Donna Teeples of Columbus, OH. and Dorothy Reynolds of Buena Vista, CA.; grandchildren, Brent, Bobbie Jo and Billie Ann and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Gordon and Allen Kelly; sister, Lillian Huffman,; nephews, Gordon and Gilbert Bristal and niece, Carol Leonard.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Kenneth Parker of the Marlette Second Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to the Marlette Second Presbyterian Church or the United Hospice Service.

Visitation will be observed on Thursday, June 10 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.
