EUGENE D. FRIDAY
Eugene D. Friday, 90, of Kingston, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, September, 19, 2007 at the Covenant Medical Center- Harrison in Saginaw, Michigan. He had lived in the Koylton Twp. area since 1971.
He was born October 14, 1916 in Silverwood, MI, son to the late Melvin and Ethel (Snover) Friday.
He married
Leta Sarles on December 14, 1940 in Mayville. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2007.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was a long time member of the Silverwood United Methodist Church where he was very active, also he was a member of the I.O.O.F. in Clifford, Mayville VFW, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and N.R.A.
He worked as a welder for General Coach and Bendix Corporation in Marlette for many years. He also farmed and worked at Trapper Jim’s Hunt Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, outdoors and, most of all, his family and friends.
He is survived by Ken and Betty Friday (son) of Luzerne, MI, Allen and Carol Friday (son) of Mayville, MI, Lila Draper (daughter) of Marlette, MI, Rodney and Brenda Friday (son) of Kingston, MI, Martha and Russell Sarles (sister) of Clifford, MI, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and brother, Jay. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 1:00 pm in the Silverwood United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ronald Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in the Rich Twp. cemetery in Mayville with full military honors. Memorials may be donated to the family.

EVELYN WOODARD (SHEPPARD)
Evelyn Woodard (Sheppard) 81, of Ocean Hills, CA passed away on Friday Sept. 7, 2007 at San Diego Hospital.
She was born in Marlette, MI., the daughter of Jay and Nettie Sheppard. She graduated at Marlette Township School in 1943 as valedictorian of her class. She was married
to Jack Woodard of Witchita, KS., who passed away Sept. 11, 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Alyese and son-in-law, Dennis DeKraker of Woodenville, WA, a son, Mark of CA and a granddaughter, Danielle.
She is also survived by sisters, Leola McVean of Marlette and Onalee Cousins of In. and nieces Linda Moore, Darlene Coenen, Brenda Sloan, Carol Spencer, Nancy Heald.
GERTRUDE ROSE MILLER
Gertrude R. Miller, 82, of Marlette, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Sanilac Medical Care Facility in Sandusky, Michigan. She was born February 9, 1925 in Reese, Michigan, daughter to the late Floyd and Gladys (Cramer) Sylvester.
She married
Gerald L. Miller on September 1, 1945, in Caro. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1996.
She was a member of the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Branch for many years.
She was a hard working farm wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and could cook for many on a minutes notice.
She is survived by three sons, William Miller of Davison, Michael and Brenda Miller of Sandusky and Mark Miller of Clifford; three daughters, Connie and Louis Calcaterra of Silverwood, Patricia and James Fischer of Marlette and Michelle Miller of Marlette; one brother, Jack and Clara Sylvester of Reese; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Lee and grandson, Nick.
Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan. A memorial service was conducted on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Branch with Rev. Tim Spiegelberg officiating
Memorials may be donated to the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Branch of the Our Savior Lutheran Church School in Marlette.

RUBY E. WANNA GROW
Ruby Grow, 81, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the Marlette Hospice Residence. She had lived the past 57 years in the Kingston area. She was born August 19, 1926 in Marlette, daughter to the late Simon and Elizabeth (McAllister) Chappel.
She married
Walter A. Grow on February 7, 1944 in Marlette. He preceded her death on July 8, 1992.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, making Christmas ornament’s and, most of all, her family.
She is survived by one son, Arnold and Diane Grow of Newberry; three daughters, Arlene and David Clinesmith of Kingston, Virginia Grow and Fernando Zaldivar Sr. of Lansing and Susan and Troy Ruff of Lansing; five brothers, Donald Chappel of Clifford, Albert and Nancy Chappel of Los Vegas, NV, Richard and Janet Chappel of West Branch, William and Marilyn Chappel of Elkton, and Robert and Grace Chappel of Marlette; one sister, Mary and Duane Owen of Kingston: 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sheila Fox; granddaughter, Jennifer; brothers, Francis, Haven Garth and Lawrence Chappel and two sisters, Agnes Moyer and Ruth Yost.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Rev. Douglas Richardson officiating.
Burial was in the West Burlington cemetery in Silverwood.
JUNE R. WALKER
June R. Walker, Saginaw, Michigan, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Health Source of Saginaw after a lengthy illness at the age of 73.
She was born June 1, 1934 in Cattlesburg, Kentucky to the late John and Maxine (Boyd) Robinette. She had been employed by the Marlette Community Hospital and then Sears prior to her retirement.
Surviving are her children Elizabeth Schultz of Saginaw, Robert Patterson, and Patricia Veale of North Carolina; her grandchildren Andrea Schultz, Lindsay Schultz, Dawn Hibbitts, LeAnna Atkins, Wendy Lovitt, Jim Patterson, Jr., Carrie Patterson, Christopher Patterson, Heather Patterson, and Patrick Patterson; her great-grandchildren Brooklyn, and Bryson; her sisters Ruth Marrs, Edna Holton, and Phyllis Weiger, all of KY; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son James Patterson, her brothers Warren Robinette, Harold Robinette, Paul Robinette, George Robinette, and Bill Hurley.
The funeral service took place Monday, September 17, 2007 at the Stapish Cederberg Funeral Home West (805 E. South Union St., Bay City, 48706, www.stapishcederberg.com) with burial following in Kingston cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Heartland Hospice.

ALICE M. HUDSON
Alice M. Hudson, 96, a long time resident of the Marlette area, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Marlette Extended Care Facility.
She was born October 27, 1910 in Decker Michigan, daughter to the late Allen and Clarissa (Johnson) Baer.
She married
Orville H. Hudson on January 7, 1950 in Alma, Michigan. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1999.
She enjoyed sewing, watching and feeding birds, the outdoors and, most of all, her family.
She is survived by daughter; Dorothy and Sam Pandrea of Marlette; son, Stuart McQuarrie of Ionia; sister, Bessie and Eldon Phetteplace of Sandusky; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald McQuarrie; step sons, Larry and Ronald Hudson; three sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 1:30 pm at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Pastor Daniel Bowman of the First United Methodist Church in Marlette officiating.
Burial will be in the Marlette cemetery.
Memorials may be donated to the United Hospice Service, or Marlette Extended Care Facility.

AUDREY DUFF
Audrey L. Duff, 87, a life long resident of the Marlette area, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Marlette Hospice Residence.
She was born March 22, 1920 in Evergreen Twp., daughter to the late Charles and Bessie (Palmer) Westphal.
She graduated from Memphis High School in 1938.
She married
John S. Duff on October 25, 1940 in Novesta Twp. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1989.
She worked at the Marlette Community Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid for 20 years and also was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Marlette Second Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed playing piano, traveling and, most of all, her family.
She is survived by three sons, John and Mary Duff of Peoria, AZ, Gary and Marilyn Duff of Marlette, MI, Roger and Kim Duff of Marlette, MI; daughter-in-law, Karen Sanders of Lapeer; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and son, Brian.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 10, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Marsh Funeral Chapel Marlette, with Rev. Elwin Hazen officiating.
Burial was in the McLeish cemetery.
Memorials may be donated to the United Hospice Service.

FRANCES A. DUNSFORD
Frances A. Dunsford passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007.
She was born on July 11, 1914 to Frank and Ethel Soper in Kingston, Michigan. She attended Kingston schools then Central Michigan University where she got her B.A. degree. She taught school in a one room school of six grades near Marlette prior to her beginning teaching school in the Kindergarten Cottage in Marlette in 1948. She taught for many years, having year after year of students who still remember her. She later received a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan as she continued to teach in Marlette.
She was active in the Philomathian Club, Eastern Stars plus many other organizations plus school activities. Upon her retirement, she was honored by having one of the Marlette Scribes dedicated to her.
She moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1977 then to Fort Myers, Florida in 1979 while keeping a residence in Marlette for summers. She was a long time member of the Marlette Methodist Church.
Her husband, Maurice Dunsford, brothers Harold Soper and Charles Soper and her parents pre-deceased her. Left to cherish her memory are her children, James Brent Dunsford of Los Angeles, CA, son, Charles Thomas and MaryLou Dunsford of Indialantic, Florida and daughter, Jane Ellen Harris of Bay City, Michigan. Arrangements were made with the National Cremation Society in Florida.
