ROBERT L EARL
Robert L. Earl, 70, of Carsonville, passed away on Monday. May 19, 2008 in Mercy Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on December 2.1937 in Juhl, Michigan, son of the late George and Gladys Earl.
He married
Terri J. Kenny on September 28, 1991 in Croswell.
In 1956, he graduated from Marlette High School and he then went to St. Clair County Community College and graduated in 1978 with an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement. He joined the United States Army Active Reserve. He was a former City of Detroit patrolman; Sanilac County Sheriff Department Deputy Sheriff, Rank of Sergeant: City of Croswell, Chief of Police and Village of Carsonville, Chief of Police. He was also the Supervisor for Dean, Vlasic and Gielow Pickles. He was Carsonville Village Clerk, active with the Marlette Emergency Medical and Sanilac EMS. He was a member of the Marlette Community Hospital Ambulance Service, American Legion Post 255 and American Assoc. of Diving Instructors. He has received numerous citations and awards. He had a very active public service. He is survived by his wife, Terri Earl of Carsonville; son, Robert Ear! of Marlette; daughter, Susan Bular of Auburn Hills; daughter, Pamela Earl of Sandusky; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Eric Davis of Applegate; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Richard Gellerof Bradenton. Florida; son, William Hanzinger of Muskegon; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; sister, Sharon Zumwalde of Fergus Falls.
Minnesota; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Douglas and Marion Kenny of Deckerville: and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Crystal Earl on May 12, 1989. Memorial services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 in Carsonville United Methodist Church, 3953 Sheldon Street. Carsonville. The Rev. Jerry Griggs, pastor of Carsonville United Methodist Church.

NEWELL JOHN HUBBARD
Newell J. Hubbard, 81, of Kingston, died Friday, May 30, 2008 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center.
He was born September 6, 1926 in Novesta Township to Newell William (Jack) and Lela Marian (Slack) Hubbard. He married
Helen Joyce Bader Chapin December 20, 1980 in Shabbona United Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War 11. He was an M-1 Riffle Marksman. He served in Korea 1944 to 1946 as a Sgt. Medical Aidman. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He worked for the elevator in Deford, Marlette Homes, and retired from Marlette Community Schools in 1992 as a maintenance worker. He was a member of Shabbona United Methodist Church and a former member of the Caro Masons.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and was a very talented woodworker.
He is survived by his wife, Helen: Children: Bradley (Nancy) Hubbard of North Branch, Richard (Diane) Chapin of Marlette, Vickie (Frank) Udell of Westland, Paul (Kathy) Chapin of Decker, Lane (Cindy) Chapin of Marlette: Grandchildren: Donald Hubbard, Kimberly (Trent) Driver, Jason Hubbard, Daniel Worth, Dennis (Rachael) Worth, Katie Villereal, Benjamin Worth, Amber Hubbard, Brannen (Cary) Udell, Amber (Chris) Daves, Riley (Cecelia) Chapin, Jordan Chapin, Kayla Chapin, Cody Chapin, great grandchildren: Kia, Alena, Brooklyn, Paige, Payton, Brennan, Calli, Dustin, Haley, Hannah, Ian, William, Westley: Brother, Orville (Sharon) Hubbard of Clarkston: Many nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: son, Steven Hubbard; Grandson, Aaron Hubbard and niece, Marsha Turner. Funeral service were conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Rev. Ellen Burns, Shabbona United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Novesta Township cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons: Donald Hubbard, Jason Hubbard, Riley Chapin, Brannan Udell, Jordan Chapin and Cody Chapin. HAZEL MAY SNYDER
Hazel May Snyder, 97, of Bay City passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at The Carriage House of Bay City.
Miss Snyder has lived in the Bay City area the past 15 years and was previously from Los Angles, California, where she lived over 40 years. She was born January 20, 1911 in Marlette, daughter to the late Louis and Martha (Streu) Snyder. She worked on the family farm in Marlette and also was a clerk for AAA Insurance Co. in California for 26 years.
She is survived by a nephew and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 2, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Pastor Mike Harmon officiating. Burial was in the Hyslop cemetery in Sandusky. WILBUR L. RICKETTS
Wilbur L. Ricketts, 78, long time resident of Deford, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Marlette Hospice Residence.
He was born June 10, 1929 in Detroit, son to the late Ross and Belva (Hickey) Ricketts.
Mr. Ricketts served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married
Betty Florey on December 2, 1956 in Holland, Ill. She passed away October 18, 1986. He married
Marion George on June 4, 1988 in Sandusky.
He was the Pastor at the Watertown Missionary Church in Sandusky for 34 years retiring in December 30, 2007 and also worked at the Marlette Farmers Co-op Elevator for many years.
He enjoyed tractor and steam engine shows, wood working, crafts and, most of all, his family.
He is survived by his wife, Marion of Deford; daughters, Nina (Dan) Watson of Deford and Peggy Ricketts of Deford; step son, Jim(Merridi) Haskell of Arizona; step-daughter, Debbie (Brian) Haeck of Owosso; sister Marlene (Douglas) Milner of Mayville and grandchildren, Marie Watson of Deford and Braeden (Buck Shot) Haeck of Owosso.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Belva Ricketts and wife, Betty.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Rev. James Keller and Rev. Paul Mulcher officiating.
Burial was in the Brookside cemetery in Fairgrove.
Memorials may be donated to the Watertown Missionary Church, United Hospice Service or the Gideon's.

ALMA POTTER
Alma Potter, 77, of Marlette, passed away peacefully Monday, April 28, 2008 at Marlette Regional Hospital-Hospice Residence.
Mrs. Potter lived in the Marlette area for two years and was previously from Yale.
She was born September 16, 1930 in Yale, Michigan, daughter to the late Chandler and Gertrude (Taylor) Hull.
She married
James Potter on July 5, 1958 in Yale, he preceded her in death on August 20, 1984.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, ceramics, bird watching and baseball.
She is survived by three daughters, Robbin Potter of Marlette, Velma and Kevin Moshier of Kingston and Vera and Keith Schweinle of Marlette, MI; three grandsons, Andrew Potter of Saginaw, Nicholas Moshier of Kingston and Timothy Moshier of Kingston; three sisters, Eleanor and William Ferrier of Yale, Norma and Robert Bloom of Florida and Evelyn and Harvey Lorf of Yale; two sister-in-laws, Nancy Hull of Washington and Peggy Potter of Marlette and brother in law, Milton Ferrier of Kingston.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Mae Potter, brother, Peter Hull, parents and husband.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Pastor Daniel Bowman of Marlette United Methodist Church officiating.
Cremation will follow the service at the May Memorial Crematory in Port Huron. Memorials may be donated to the United Hospice Service or the family.

VIOLET M. FAIR
Violet M. Fair, 94 of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2008.
She was born to Arthur and Effie Taylor on August 17, 1913 in Toledo, OH, attended the Port Huron schools, and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1932.
On May 9, 1935 she married
Fred Fair.
She was an active, long-time member of Colonial Woods Missionary Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. Years ago, she also served as a children’s counselor at the Brown City church camp. She loved being with people, especially her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great source of joy.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elaine (Clifford) Burgess of Port Huron and Sharon (Jack) D’Arcy of Marlette; four grandchildren, Beth (Ryan) Keane of Waukesha, WI, Fred Burgess of Indianapolis, IN, Heather (Jim) Marshall of Marlette, and Pastor John (Colleen) D’Arcy of Cass City; eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexa, Amy, Abby, & Melissa Keane, and Hannah, Logan, & Ethan Marshall; her brother, Rev. Arthur (Fern) Taylor of Kentwood, MI; three sisters, Mary Rivers of Fort Gratiot, Evelyn (Clarence) Schoenhals of Brown City, and June (Jack) Mitchell of Glendale, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Velma Birdsall of Navato, CA and Beulah Reynolds of Flint Twp.; a brother-in-law, Clarence Fair of Fort Gratiot; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Fair, who passed away in December of 1990. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shirley, and two sisters, Vera Tenney and Winnifred Ripley.
Visitation was conducted on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Colonial Woods Missionary Church preceded by one hour of visitation. Pastor Phil Whetstone officiated. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

ELIZABETH E. BROUGHTON
Elizabeth E. Broughton, 91, of Imlay City, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Marlette Regional Hospital-Hospice Residence.
She had lived in Imlay City since 1990 and from 1968 to 1990 in Marlette. She moved to the Broughton farm when she got married
in 1941 and her five children were born when they lived there.
She was born June 2, 1916 in Bunker Hill, Indiana daughter to the late Jay and Debby (Metcalf) Bigger.
She graduated from Clawson High School in 1935.
She married
Luke R. Broughton on February 2, 1941 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1983.
She was a homemaker all her life and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, putting together jigsaw puzzles and most of all, her family.
She attended the Marlette Baptist Church for 22 years and also attended Trinity Baptist Church and the Nazarene Church in Imlay City.
She is survived by daughter, Beatrice (Harold) Rock of Imlay City, son Donald (Sue) Broughton of Marlette, daughter, Martha (George) Moomaw of New Baltimore, son, Thomas (Jo) Broughton of Grand Rapids, son, Larry (Peggy) Broughton of Cloquet,MN.; three sisters, Della Geer of Auburn Hills, Mildred Melbourne of Florida and Alice Salzano of Arizona’ one brother, Joseph (Leah) Bigger of Croswell; 10 grandchildren, Ronda Chavez, Darryl Rock, Shawn Rock, Rebekah Anderson, Sarah Cilk, Janet Saxton, Robert Moomaw, Daniel Moomaw, Deborah Jurvis and Trenton Broughton, 16 great-grandchildren, Clarissa Chavez, Amelia Chavez, Dillon Rock, Whitney Rock, Kyle Saxton, Kaitlyn Saxton, David Moomaw, Lexie Fiema, Brendan Moomaw, Brett Moomaw, Allison Moomaw, Andrew Moomaw, Heather Moomaw, Grace Jurvis, Gabriel Jurvis and Miller Broughton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Roy Bigger; sisters, Wilma Riegel, Mary Loescher, Esther Wright and Margaret Mullen and great-granddaughter, Ashleigh Moomaw.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, May 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with family officiating.
Burial was in the New Haven Centennial cemetery in New Haven.

KATHERINE L. CHINN
Katherine L. Chinn, 64, of Decker, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Marlette Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Chinn has lived in the Decker area since 1997 and was previously from Wayne.
She was born February 22, 1944 in Jackson, daughter to the late Hermon and Hannah (Alexander) Wolkens.
She married
Martin Chinn on April 12, 1970 in Bay City.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Westland.
She is survived by her husband, Martin of Decker: son, Timothy and Carrie Chinn of Wayne; daughter, Terri Sanderson of Pinckney; grandchildren, Erin and Brenna Sanderson of Pinckney, Destiny and Addison Chinn of Wayne and many brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Eric Kilmer of Our Savior Lutheran Church will be officiating.
Interment will be in the Johnston cemetery in Snover.
Memorials may be donated to the Our Savior Lutheran Church School Fund or Marlette Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1pm to 9pm at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.
