June 4, 1983 - December 22, 2002

Erin Elizabeth Hamblin, 19, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2002, at Spectrum Health Care in Grand Rapids.

Funeral Services for Erin will be held on Thursday, December 26, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Fr. Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in the Vinewood cemetery in Edmore.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 24, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 25, from 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Erin Hamblin Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Erin was born June 4, 1983, the daughter of Mark E. and Donna M. (Murphy) Hamblin. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in the Class of 2001. Erin was a sophomore at Central Michigan University and worked as a waitress at Jon’s Drive Inn. During high school, Erin was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Pom Pom Squad. She had danced at Toni’s Dance Studio from the age of 5 to 18. Erin was always smiling, and she loved being around people, especially children. She loved her horses and cats, and was proud of owning her first car.

Erin is survived by her mother Donna (David) Garrett and her father Mark (Tina) Hamblin, both of Mt. Pleasant; her grandparents John and Margaret Murphy of Mt. Pleasant and George and Esther Hamblin of Haines City, FL; her siblings Kristin Hamblin, Brittnay Benchley, Abbey Benchley, all of Mt. Pleasant, Tammy (Matt) Fox of Holland, Sean (Angela) Goffnett of Lansing, Rob (Amanda) Lewis of Mt. Pleasant and Dave Garrett (Kristi Cotsman) of Mt. Pleasant.

Erin was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Lou Hamblin.

Judge, Ronald Gerry
August 9, 1953 - December 22, 2002

Ronald Gerry Judge, 49, of Shepherd, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2002, at his home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 31, at Grace World Outreach with Pastor Chuck Swarthout officiating.

Ronald was born August 9, 1953, in Lansing, the son of Raymond and Audrey (Bayliss) Judge. He was a 1971 graduate from Lansing Eastern. Ronald served in the United States Marine Corps. On July 25, 1987, he married Sharon Heniser. Until his disability in 1997, Ronald had worked as a registered nurse at Gratiot Community Hospital. He was a member of the Grace World Outreach and attended the Embassy Christian Center in Irvine, CA. Ronald enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and reading.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children Joshua Raymond Judge of Shepherd, Elizabeth Anne Judge of Irvine, CA; 2 step-children Elizabeth Renee’ Olin of Taylor and Jonathan R. Olin (Michelle) of Charlotte; 1 grandson Michael Jonathan Olin; his mother Audrey Judge of Laingsburg; 1 brother Richard Lawrence Judge (Karen) of Mt. Pleasant; 2 sisters Kimberly Ostrander (Donald) and Deborah Baker (Ed Garfield) of Haslett.

Ronald was preceded in death by his father, grandfather and grandmother; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Graham, Ivan E.
May 17, 1917 - December 18, 2002

Ivan Graham, age 85, of Rosebush, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, at his home.

Funeral Services for Ivan will be held on, Saturday December 21, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Mary Ann Evans-Justin of the Rosebush Presbyterian Church will officiate with interment in the Salt River cemetery in Shepherd.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, December 21 from 1-2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Rosebush Interfaith Retirement Community, Hospice of Central Michigan, Presbyterian Church of Rosebush. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Ivan was born May 17, 1917, the son of Floyd and Lois (Connor) Graham. Ivan married Pauline M. Foutch on February 12, 1941 and resided in the Rosebush area. He worked in farming and at the State Home and Training Environmental Service. Ivan and Pauline attended the Rosebush Presbyterian Church. He served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the Church Choir and was a very faithful member. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, raising flowers and vegetables to give to people.

Ivan is survived by wife, Pauline M. (Foutch) Graham of Rosebush; two daughters, Carolyn S. (Ronald) Mingle of Blanchard and Myrna (Keith) Tarnovich of Defiance, Ohio; two grandchildren, Kathleen (Ken) Jones of Wyoming, Michigan and Brian (Melissa) Higgins of Rosebush; three step-grandchildren, three grandchildren; brother, Dale (Bernice) Graham of Rosebush; two sisters, Marian Schleder of Ithaca and Vivian (Albert) Campbell of Rosebush.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lois Graham.

Betts, Mary Wanda Lee
April 1, 1927 - December 17, 2002

Mary Betts, age 75, of Weidman, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

Funeral Services for Mary will be held on, Saturday December 21, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. The family will officiate with interment in the Evergreen cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 21, from 9 a.m. until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Isabella County Seniors. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Mary was born April 1, 1927, the son of Albert and Minnie (Michael) Carpenter. Mary resided in the Weidman area. She worked at the Weidman Pharmacy for 10 years and retired in 1990. Mary enjoyed gardening.

Mary is survived by her children, Roger Neal Betts of Flushing, Terry Lee (Wilma) Betts of Lake Fenton, daughter, Deborah (Tim) Briceland-Betts of Silver Spring, MD, and James Curtis (Kim) Betts of Farwell; grandchildren, Brian, Robert, Brett, Shannon, John, David, Alaina, Daniel, Amber, and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Lia, Jessica, Justin, Jenna.

Mary was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Dale Betts on July 10, 1959.

Browne, David Lee
August 11, 1933 - December 8, 2002

David Brown, age 69, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.

Memorial Services for David will be held on Friday, December 13, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Cech officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 12, from 3 – 5 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at the Clark Funeral Chapel, Thursday, December 12, at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

David was born August 11, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Ronald and Beatrice (Schumacher) Browne. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. David joined the Army in 1952 and was active in the battle of Triangle Hill in Korea for which he earned two purple hearts, a bronze star and a commendation from the Korean People President. He was married 45 years to Carol Heinlein. They were wed on March 1, 1958 in Mt. Pleasant.

In the last four years David had reunited with four of the men who fought beside him and had developed a wonderful friendship after 50 years having visited Maryland, Florida and Marquette, Michigan each summer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #305, F & AM in Mt. Pleasant, the Commandry in Alma, and American Legion in Breckenridge.

He enjoyed raising a large garden in the summer and sharing it with family and friends. His favorite relaxation was riding his Harley with his sons and having coffee with his buddies at Filmore’.

David was survived by his loving wife Carol (Heinlein) Browne. He was the proud father of four children, Ronald (Laura) Browne of Midland, Rosalie Browne of Lansing, Robert (Donna) Browne of Clare, Ross (Bobbie) Browne of Mt. Pleasant; his five grandchildren, Sara, Brenna, Emily, Jacob and Daniel who all survive him.

David was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Beatrice (Schumacher) Browne; two brothers, William Browne and Marvin (Cub) Browne.

Dinsdale, Janet
February 2, 1919 - December 8, 2002

Janet Dinsdale, age 83, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral Services for Janet will be held on Thursday, December 12, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marvin Eldridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairviev cemetery in Weidman.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, from 3 – 9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dinsdale family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Janet was born February 2, 1919 in Audenshaw, England the daughter of Richard and Jennett (Lang) Atkinson. She married Francis “Frank” Dinsdale August 17, 1940 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, England. They moved to the United States in 1949 where Janet worked for 17 years as a florist in Roseville, Michigan. Janet was a life member of the Roseville O.E.S. Lodge number 522 F.&A.M. She loved bowling, knitting, crosswords, and babysitting her grandchildren. Janet had also been involved with the Rainbow Girls.

Janet is survived by her husband Frank Dinsdale of Mt. Pleasant; her children, Yvonne (Edwin) Van Atten of Lake Isabella, Lorraine (Greg) Bourbeau of St. Petersburg, FL, Patricia (David) Rieger of Harrison Township, Gary (Mallory) Dinsdale of Bradenton, FL, and Kathryn (Jeff) Williams of Grand Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Charles (Daisy) Atkinson of Wales, England; sister Alice Spencer of Droylesden, England.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Anne and Clara; and brothers William, Richard, John, and James.

Brown, Maximilian Nathaniel
December 7, 2002 - December 7, 2002

Maximilian Nathaniel Brown passed away shortly after birth on Saturday, December 7, at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw.

In just his few short hours of life, Max touched the hearts of the nine family members present for the birth and left memories that will never be forgotten. We thank him more than these words can convey for the precious moments we were allowed to share with him and thank the Lord for allowing our brief but unforgettable meeting. He will live eternally in our hearts, minds and souls until we meet again at the end of our long journey.

He is survived by his mother, Dr. Ashly D. LaRoche and father, Paul C. Brown of Mt. Pleasant. Both parents are employed at Pol Veterinary Services in Weidman.

Kluiber, Myrtle Jane
August 15, 1913 - December 7, 2002

Myrtle Jane Kluiber, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at the Isabella Medical Care Facility.

Funeral Services for Myrtle will be held on Wednesday, December 11, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Dr. Stephen Shugert officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 10, from 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Art Reach. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Myrtle was born August 15, 1913 in Wyandotte, the daughter of Bernard and Alice (Goulait) Harrington. She served as an Army nurse lieutenant during WWII in Panama where she met and married Frank Kluiber, an Air Force Pilot, on February 27, 1943. Following a successful career as a nurse, Myrtle graduated from Michigan State University with honors and both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. Myrtle was retired from the Lansing Public Schools where she had taught for 17 years with distinction. In her retirement years, Myrtle enjoyed taking art classes and painting. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Myrtle is survived by her children Michael (Candy) Kluiber of Milwaukee, WI and Mary Jane Flynn (Dick) of Akron, Ohio , 5 grandchildren Kelly (Dustin) Preston, Katie (Bill) Flannery, Erik, Merideth, and Alex Kluiber 3 great-grandchildren, Kade and Jace Preston, and Nathan Flannery.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kluiber Nov. 25, 1999; her parents; and 1 sister Elizabeth Meissner.

Hageman, Richard Harry
April 14, 1917 - December 4, 2002

Richard Harry Hageman was born on a homestead in Powell, Wyoming, on April 14, 1917, to Frank Roy and Creda Dilema Wright Hageman. When Richard was five, the family moved to take up farming with his paternal grandparents near Hollenberg, Kansas. He advanced from the one room school, Silver Cliff, on completion of eighth grade to graduate from Hollenberg High School in 1934. Having shucked more than enough corn by then, he matriculated at Kansas State University, graduating with a B.S. in chemistry and the rank of Second Lieutenant in the ROTC. He completed an M.S. in plant nutrition from Oklahoma A & M College, where he met Margaret Elizabeth Catlett. They were married at Waleetka, Oklahoma, on August 14, 1941. From 1942 until 1946 Richard served in the Army Chemical Corps in Maryland, California and Colorado, training troops in protective tactics against chemical warfare agents. He was poised in Hawaii to go to the South Pacific just as WWII ended. With two children added to the family, Dick and Liz moved first to work for a year at the University of Kentucky and then to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, to work as a research chemist at the USDA Experiment Station from 1947 until 1950. Richard moved his family, then five, to the University of California, Berkeley, where he completed a Ph.D. in Plant Nutrition in 1954. In 9154, the Hageman family moved, in a memorable cross-country camping trip to Urbana, Illinois, where Richard joined the faculty from 1954 until his retirement in 1984. He was a co-discoverer of the nitrite reducing enzyme in plants, and he pioneered the use of enzyme levels as a means of improving corn production, publishing many highly cited works in the field of crop physiology and biochemistry, including the American Chemical Society Spencer Award for Outstanding Achievement in Agricultural Chemistry.

He was fondly regarded by his many students and colleagues, who were frequent guests in the Hageman household, under the expert care of Liz.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his daughter Peggy and her husband Charles Burke, by his son, James and his wife Mary all of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, by his daughter Janet and her husband Maarten Chrispeels of Santa Barbara and La Jolla, California, and by 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Patricia Green presiding. Donations in place of flowers may be given to Kansas State University endowment or to a charity of your choice. He will be very greatly missed as a husband, father, and human being.

Egbert, Lawrence E.
September 26, 1931 - December 4, 2002

Lawrence E. Egbert, age 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, at TenderCare Nursing Home.

Funeral Services for Lawrence will be held on, Saturday, December 7, at 12 noon at Clark Funeral Chapel. Deacon Larry Fussman will officiate with interment in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends today December 6, from 2-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Egbert family or charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Lawrence was born September 26, 1931 the son of Clarence and Estella (Wiggins) Egbert. Lawrence has resided in the Mt. Pleasant area. He worked as a dental technician for 25 years, part time as a farmer and most recently for himself at Town & Country Tavern in Beal City. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Lawrence is survived by his son, DuWayne Egbert of Weidman; 7 grandchildren, Janel Egbert, Clarence Egbert, II, Shane Egbert, Hilary (Jim) Umbleby, Ryan (Sarah) Nartker, Sam (Valerie) Mears, Larry (Becky) Egbert, III; 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Egbert of Mt Pleasant; special friends, Mary Protopappas and Shirley Block.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Estella (Wiggins) Egbert; 1 brother, Buel Egbert; and 1 sister, Edith Morton.

Swarey, Isaac Benjamin
September 5, 1949 - December 2, 2002

Isaac Benjamin Swarey, age 53, of Rosebush, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services for Isaac will be held on Wednesday, December 4, at 9:30 a.m. at the Family Home, 3223 E. Rosebush Road, Rosebush. Wayne Helmuth will officiate with interment in the Rosebush Amish cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3, from 9-11 a.m. and 1-9 p.m. at the Family Home. Mr. Swarey’s family has requested that no flowers be sent.

Isaac was born September 5, 1949 the son of David C. and Rebecca (Zook) Swarey. Isaac married Lavine B. Kanagy on November 2, 1971 in Pennsylvania, and they resided in the Rosebush, Michigan area. He was a self-employed farmer.

Isaac is survived by his wife, Lavine B. (Kanagy) Swarey; children, Lavine (Daniel) Coblentz, Rebecca Swarey, Timothy (Laura) Swarey, Anna Swarey, Stevie Swarey, Julia Swarey, Ella Swarey, Linda Swarey, Morval Swarey, Regina Swarey, Marcus Swarey, Wanita Swarey, Martha Swarey, and Luke Swarey of Rosebush; seven grandchildren; brothers, Jonathan (Susie) Swarey of Allensville, John (Ruth) Swarey of Belleville, PA, Henry (Mary) Swarey of Howard, PA, Samuel (Linda) Swarey of Belleville, PA, Stephen (Linda) Swarey of Center Hole, PA, Jacob (Susan) Swarey; sisters, Katie (Sylvanus) Peachey of Belleville, PA, Susie (Jonas) Peachey of McVeyton, PA, Lydia (Jonas) Yoder of Rebersburg, PA and Rebecca (Rudy) Byoer of Belleville, PA.

Isaac was preceded in death by his parents, David C. and Rebecca (Zook) Swarey, daughter Saloma Swarey in 1976, granddaughter, Elizabeth Coblentz and brother, Crist Swarey.
