Carl R. Friedeman
Carl R. Friedeman, 89, of Richmond, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Mount Clemens General Hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1910, in Chesterfield Township.
Mr. Friedeman was a farmer.
He is survived by his sister, Viola Friedeman of New Haven; brother, Elbert (Agnes) Friedeman of New Haven; nieces, Donna Salsbery and Judith Arthurton; and nephews, Raymond and Thomas Friedeman.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Will & Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens, with the Rev. Melvin Hiler officiating. Private burial will be in Centennial cemetery, New Haven. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Sunday.
Barbara Gantner
Barbara Gantner, 83, of Warren, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Henry Ford Continuing Care Center, Belmont. She was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Yugoslavia.
Mrs. Gantner was a member of the Carpathia Club and enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughter, Irene (Bela) Frenczli; grandchildren, Robert (Marisa), Brigitte, and Michael (Christine); great-grandchildren, Jayce, Ryan, Jordan, Brendan and Logan; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Josef.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr, Warren, with the Rev. Tom Puzio officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dorothy's Catholic Church.
Joseph J. Karlewski
Joseph J. Karlewski, 82, of Clinton Township, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Fraser Villa Nursing Home. He was born March 19, 1918, in Detroit.
Mr. Karlewski retired in 1986 after 30 years as a baker at the Oaza Bakery. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. He enjoyed music and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Michael (Jeanette) Karlewski of Roseville, Kenneth (Arlene) Karlewski of Mount Clemens and William Karlewski of Roseville; daughters, Susan Janoski of New Jersey and Christine (Gary) Ivanye of Chesterfield Township; sister, Helena (Chester) Makowski; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Pati Jo Nicolai; and brother, Richard Karlewski.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 21201 13 Mile Road, St. Clair Shores, with the Rev. Richard Treml officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery, Roseville.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Sunday with a Scripture service at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens. Additional visitation is 9:30-10 a.m. at the church.

John L. Miller
John Lawrence Miller, 49, of Livermore, Calif., formerly of Grosse Pointe Farms, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, of brain cancer, at his home. He was born Nov. 3, 1950, in Detroit.
Mr. Miller worked for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 24 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Livermore and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, bicycling, hockey and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Cathleen Warner Miller; daughter, Laura E. Miller; son, David W. Miller, all of Livermore; brother, Charles D. Miller of Clinton Township; cousins, Betty Schudel of Naples, Fla. and David Anderson of Grosse Pointe Woods; in-laws, Dean and Dolores Warner of Livermore; sisters-in-law, Kristine Warner and Marjie Rhoades; nieces, Melissa Rhoades and Erin and Kathy Whalen; and nephews, Jeffrey Rhoades and Sean Whalen. He was predeceased by his parents, David C. and Helen M. Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of Oakland or the Memorial Fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.
George G. Ragsdale
George G. Ragsdale, 74, of Clinton Township, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Neelyville, Mo.
Mr. Ragsdale was the owner of CRS Welding Supply Co., Madison Heights, since 1977 and was a member of Slovene National Benefit Society and lifetime member of American Welding Society. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II and also served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Janet J. Ragsdale (nee Milharsic); daughters, Karen (William) Schnuell-Ruth and Janice Ragsdale; and granddaughters, Kate and Meg.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons Funeral Home, 36900 Schoenherr, Sterling Heights, with the Rev. David Eberhard officiating. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today.
Jessie J. Reitzel
Jessie James Reitzel, 96, of Sterling Heights and formerly from Mount Clemens, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 7, 1903, in Wachapreague, Va.
Mrs. Reitzel was a teacher and member and former board member of First United Methodist Church. She was past president of Women's Auxiliary Macomb County Medical Society, past president of the Women's Auxiliary State of Michigan Medical Society and past president of the Child Study Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Dr. Leo) Parnagian of Armada; son, Rufus H. (Heather) Reitzel of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Lisa Bradley, James Reitzel, Stacey James, Traecy Reitzel, Jamie Brownlee and Jodie Kinney; and great-grandchildren, Quinn, Nathaniel, Amy, Jessie and Chad. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Rufus H. Reitzel; and granddaughter, Heather Lee Reitzel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 S. Main, Mount Clemens, with the Rev. Richard Andrus officiating. Entombment will be in Clinton Grove Mausoleum, Clinton Township.

Ronald O. Barg
Ronald O. Barg, 58, of Shelby Township, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at his home. He was born April 18, 1941, in Warren.
Mr. Barg was a retired truck driver from E&L; Development of Macomb Township. He was a member of Teamsters Local 247 for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Crystal (Kevin) Brewer of Chesterfield Township, Susanne (Michael) Kandt of Mount Clemens, Rhonda Barg of Shelby Township, Donald Barge of Shelby Township and Ronald Barge of Shelby Township; grandchildren, Ryan Brewer, Kaitlin Brewer and Steven Kandt; brothers, Milton (Catherine) Barg of Shelby Township and Charles (Sally) Barg of Chicopee Falls, Mass.; and sister, Marjorie (Norman) Marxer of Colton, Calif. He was predeceased by his son, Charles Keeney.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Diener Funeral Home, 48271 Van Dyke, Utica. Burial will be at Clinton Grove cemetery, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and 1-9 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southeastern Michigan.
Robert Christ
Robert Christ, 74, of Fraser, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000.
Mr. Christ was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Roseville since 1962. He served as secretary of the Bethany Lutheran Church Bowling League and treasurer of the Fraser Rotary.
He is survived by his children, Roger (Nancy), Gail (Pierre Toucheque) Taylor, Steven (Diane), and Larry (Jeannie); brothers, Charles (Van), Donald (Shirley), and Milton (Gina); sisters, Margaret Garvey, and Dorothy Perry; and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 19310 E. 14 Mile Road, Roseville. Burial will be at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at Faulmann and Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica, Fraser, and 9:30-10 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Heart Association.
Gilbert E. Clarke
Gilbert Eric Clarke, 70, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla. He was born March 14, 1929, in Detroit.
Mr. Clarke was retired as a dispatcher for Interstate Motor Freight and served in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He was a 1947 graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit.
He is survived by his children, James Gilbert (Esther) of Chesterfield Township, Theresa Kay of Harrison Township, Martha Jane (Roger) Romas of Marine City, David Eric (Jennifer) of Fort Benning, Ga., and Kathleen Janet (Andrew) Kwart of Sterling Heights; and grandchildren, Derrick, Kevin, Joshua, Jenna, Kaylee, Drew, Trevor, Jay and Rachael. He was predeceased by his wife, Waneta Pearl, Oct. 2, 1987.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 51850 North Ave., Macomb Township, with the Rev. John Carr officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family plans to establish a memorial fund in Gilbert's name.
Thelma Dendel-Fleming
Thelma Dendel-Fleming, 75, of Warren, died Monday, March 13, 2000, in McAllen, Texas. She was born April 5, 1924, in Wingo, Ky.
Mrs. Dendel-Fleming was a retired secretary from Johnson and Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, James DeWiley Fleming; children, Gayle (Debbie) Dendel, Mark (Jeanie) Dendel, and Jeff (Cathy) Dendel; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lloyd Dendel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 5005 Chicago, Warren, with the Rev. David Gladstone officiating. Burial will be at Oakview cemetery, Royal Oak.

Ira R. Fleming
Ira R. Fleming, 58, of Mount Clemens, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Mount Clemens General Hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1941, in Huntsville, Ala.
Mr. Fleming retired from the U.S. Army in 1985 after 23 years of service, including two tours as an airborne paratrooper in Vietnam. He was awarded the Department of the Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.
He enjoyed fishing with his two sons and grandchildren. He was a member of Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Faith Church in Clinton Township.
He is survived by his wife, Lucil Myrna Fleming; sons, Ray (Debbie) of Mount Clemens, and Terrence (Tonya) Fleming of Mount Clemens; daughter, Stacy (Lee) Taylor of Greensboro, N.C.; and grandchildren, Alexis, Curtis, Terrence and Tercel.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Faith Church, 22645 Quinn, Clinton Township, with the Rev. D.L. Bradley officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park cemetery, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at United Memorial Funeral Home, 75 Dickinson, Mount Clemens. Additional visitation is 11 a.m.-noon Saturday at the church.
Laverne C. Ford
Laverne Carl Ford, 80, of Harper Woods, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga. He was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Flint.
Mr. Ford had been living in Cherry Lake, Fla., for the winter with his daughter and son-in-law. He was retired from the General Motors Corp. and was a Mason. He was a U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ford of Harper Woods; daughters, Cheryl (Cal) Hartman of Cherry Lake, Fla., and Margaret Ford of Harper Woods; sister, Veva Ford of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter-in-law, Susan Kace of Dunnellon, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Alan Ford.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, Ga.
