Richard A. Gibson

Richard A. Gibson, age 73, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2005 in Mt. Pleasant. Richard was born on Thursday, November 5, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Willard and Sadie (Saari) Gibson. He was married
to Amber Gladys Patten until she passed away on December 29, 1973.
Richard was a custodian for various companies in the area. He was a Life Member of the Shepherd VFW. He loved the outdoors, spending time with his grandsons and visiting with friends. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving in the Korean Conflict with the Paratroopers from March 21, 1951 until his discharge on March 20, 1954.
Survivors include his children, Andrea, Jack and fiancée Rachel, Beth, Ruthann, and Linda; grandsons Jay, Danny, Maya, and Ross, all of Grand Rapids and many other grandchildren; siblings Rita Van Ocker of Charlotte, Michigan, W.K. Gibson of Mt. Pleasant, Shirley French of Mt. Pleasant, Connie and Jim Calkins of Harrison, Don and Connie Denman of Farwell, Sandra and Joe Blodgett of Farwell, Willard and Sue Denman of Blanchard, and Nancy and Larry Gott of Winn; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Rick, his wife Amber, and a sister Norma.
Memorial services were held on Friday, August 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Mr. John Engelhardt officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Bertha Elnora Loomis
July 28, 1902 - August 1, 2005
Bertha Elnora Loomis, was born on Monday, July 28, 1902 in Gilmore, Michigan, and left this world to be with her Lord on Monday, August 1, 2005 in Casper, Wyoming after 103 years on this earth.
Bertha was married
for over 60 years to Miles Loomis, who passed away in 1985. She was also preceded in death by one son, Virgil, her son Nelsons wife, Betty, and a great grandson, Timothy James Loomis.
Survivors include her two sons, Nelson Loomis of Casper, Wyoming, and Wayne and Alice Jean Loomis, of Bath, Michigan; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and two great grandchildren, spread all over the United States; and a sister-in-law, Betty McAlvey of Florida.
Bertha lived most of her life as a wife and mother in Weidman, Michigan. She spent the last few years in Casper, Wyoming, with her son, Nelson. She enjoyed reading her bible, and tatting.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Rich Hilton officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may gather with the family on Monday, August 8, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Ashton Jay Bonar of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. John Boley officiating.

Ashton was born on Saturday, July 30, 2005 in Mt. Pleasant to Sheree Rose Bonar
He is survived by his mother Sheree Rose Bonar of Mt. Pleasant; grandparents Gary and Mary Mullin of Mt. Pleasant; great grandparents Inez and Dean Crosby of Elwell, Michigan and Sidney and Nancy Yeager of Texas; an uncle Jeff Bonar, aunt Amanda Bonar, and uncle Bradley Mullin.

Floyd Curly Roger Overfield
July 26, 1914 - July 29, 2005
Floyd Curly Roger Overfield, age 91, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005 at Rosebush Manor in Rosebush, Michigan. Curly was born on Sunday, July 26, 1914 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of John and Zora M. (Tomblingson) Overfield. He was a Mt. Pleasant resident since 1930, having moved from Bridgeport, Illinois.
Curly was a finish carpenter, working with Local 1456. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class from December 15, 1943 until his discharge on January 13, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post. He took great pride in his garden and yard, and enjoyed his cottage.
Survivors include his children: Roger and Linda Overfield of Coopersville, Michigan, Jerry and Connie Overfield of Petaluma, California, and Ruth and Dallas Jason of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer and Dr. David Raffo, Kendra, Scott, Chris, Lisa, Theresa, Dartanion, and Monica; and thirteen great grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Guy and Phyllis Massick, Larry and Wilma Ervin, Richard and Barbara Curtiss, and Lloyd Butch and Charlotte Arthur. Curly was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; both parents; a daughter: Nancy Lee Overfield; a sister: Florence Haught; four brothers: Charles, Leo, Purle, and Glen Overfield; and a grandson: Thomas.
Friends gathered with the family on Sunday, July 31, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 1, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Ann Evans-Justin officiating. Interment took place in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Daniel Alexander Darnell
March 29, 1955 - July 27, 2005
Daniel Alexander Darnell, age 50, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Dan was born on Tuesday, March 29, 1955 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Smith) Darnell. He was an area resident of the Mt. Pleasant area his entire life.
Dan worked at various police and security jobs in the area. He enjoyed camping, the out of doors, playing cards, and a good meal.
Survivors include his daughter Kimberly Darnell and her mother Brenda of Carson City, Michigan; his mother, Dorothy Darnell of Mt. Pleasant; five brothers: Ken Darnell of Saginaw, Kevin and Kathy Darnell, Thomas Darnell, both of Mt. Pleasant, Steve Darnell of Shepherd, and Brian and Evelyn Darnell of Weidman; three sisters: Diane and Tim Ellis of Big Spring, Texas, Kathy Darnell of New Jersey, and Tammy and Tom Darnell of Kansas City, Missouri; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; a brother, Jeff Darnell; and a sister, Debra Darnell.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. James Simcox officiating. Interment of the cremated remains took place in Chippewa Township cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Darwin Elmer Nystrom
January 9, 1926 - July 25, 2005
Darwin Elmer Nystrom, age 79, of Cadillac, Michigan passed away, peacefully at home, on Monday, July 25, 2005
No services are planed at this time. Interment of Darwins cremated remains was at Maple Hill cemetery in Cadillac.
Memorial contributions were made in his memory to the Cadillac United Methodist Church, 1020 E. Division, Cadillac, MI 49601.
Darwin was born on Saturday, January 9, 1926 in Cadillac, Michigan His parents were Elmer and Lucille (Gilchrist) Nystrom
He married
Faith Esther Boadway on February 26, 1949
He was a resident of the Cadillac area for three years. Darwin retired from the Michigan State Police as a Detective Sergeant after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Cadillac United Methodist Church. He served in the US Navy from April 1944 to August 1949 as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class. He was a very successful deer hunter all of his life.
Darwin is survived by his wife, Faith Esther, his children: Darlene (Leroy) Shively, Jim (Diane) Nystrom, Linda (Benton) Heisler, Jeff (Jean) Nystrom, and Robert (Ronda) Nystrom, grandchildren: Lindsey, Allison, Shannon, Jordon, Kelsey, Hannah, Elin, and Isaac; great grandchildren: Magnus, Greta, and Ginger; brother Larry Thomas (Roberta Irene) Nystrom; and sisters: Arlene Lucille Miles and Florence Louise Bowman; brother-in-law, Robert Scutt.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Peter and Anna Nystrom and Tom and Marcella Gilchrist; brother: Donald; and sister: Dorothy Scutt; brothers-in-law Curtis Miles and John Bowman.
Bonnie Bethel Backus
July 8, 1912 - July 16, 2005
Bonnie Bethel Backus, 93, of Shepherd, Michigan passed away July 16, 2005 at Tendercare Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Haymaker officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends gathered with the family on Monday, July 18, 2005, from 2-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the funeral service.
Bonnie was born on Monday July 8, 1912 in Clendenin, West Virginia. She married
Earl William Backus on February 6, 1928 in West Virginia. Her parents were Edward Glen Welch and Elva May (White) Welch. Bonnie was a resident of the Shepherd and Mt. Pleasant area since 1932. She was a home maker, a member of the Chippewa Baptist Church, and the Greendale Community Center for Senior Citizens.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Earl Duane (Nancy) Backus of Higgins Lake, and Judith A. (Bernard) Backus-Flint of Blanchard; daughters-in-law Myrtle and Pat; a sister-in-law Laura Welch of Midland; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and twenty great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl, two sons William and Dale Backus; two brothers Bolton and Edward Welch; an infant brother, Dalton, and an infant sister Sylbia Marie.
The family suggested memorial contributions to Tendercare Mt. Pleasant or Chippewa Baptist Church.
Daniel N. Stacy
March 22, 1923 - July 13, 2005
Daniel N. Stacy, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison Campus, Saginaw, Michigan.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Pastor Samuel Reith officiating.
Daniels cremated remains will be interred at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Daniel was born on Friday, March 22, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to Maynard and Nettie (Niswonger) Stacy. He married
Betty Adams on January 28, 1950 in Mt. Pleasant. Daniel was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant area. He was a member, and past Commander, of the VFW Post #3033. He loved Tiger Baseball and Piston Basketball as well as hunting and fishing.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Betty, his children: Terry (Marcia) Stacy of Mt. Pleasant, Patricia (Richard) Harris of Harrison, Penny (Thomas) Leathley of Reno, Nevada, and Melanie (George) McWilliams of Seminole, Florida; grandchildren: Andrew Stacy, Suzanne and Lisa Harris, Marissa and Brendan McWilliams; a brother, Glen Stacy, and two sisters: Edith Howland and Helen Hagerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Hazel Fox.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Isabella County Commission on Aging.

Leonard Alexander, age 42, of Mount Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Leonard was born Tuesday, October 9, 1962 in Mount Pleasant to Victor Jackson and Evelyn Inda (Keezhig) Alexander. He was a lifelong resident of the Mount Pleasant area and a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
Leonard is survived by his special friend Jenny Gibbons of Riverdale, and his children, Nathan McDaniel of Mt. Pleasant, Cheyanne Alexander and Tabitha Alexander of Riverdale, Beatrice VanConant-Alexander, and George VanConant-Alexander. He is also survived by his father, Victor Jackson of Mt. Pleasant, and a granddaughter Cordelia McDaniel; his brother, William Alexander of Mt. Pleasant, and sisters Julia Wixson and Carolyn Folts of Rosebush, and Shirley Burch of Mt. Pleasant; eight nieces and nephews, Trevor, Travis, and Nicole Alexander, Jason Wixsn, Lisa Kennedy, Doyletta Good, Theal Burch, and Diane Roux.
Leonard was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Geraldine.
