Dorothy Liphardt (Robb) Jenicke

Dorothy L. Jenicke, age 100, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully Tuesday Dec. 9, 2008 in her home. Dorothy was born on Dec. 1, 1908 in Detroit, Michigan to Hugh and Mildred (Liphardt) Robb. She married
Oliver C. Jenicke on Feb. 24, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. They enjoyed camping and traveling to the Western U.S., Canada and Mexico. They raised two children, Lawrence and Diane. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1977. She moved to Mt. Pleasant, MI in 1978 and enjoyed living here for the past 30 years.
Dot, as she was known to her friends and family, enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning fruits and vegetables, listening to music, caring for her children, grandchildren and dogs, and was a meticulous homemaker. Dot was a resilient, caring person who always had a solution to a problem and a kind word for her loved ones and has been an inspiration to her children and grandchildren.
Dots 100 years were filled with loved ones and many historical events that her children and grandchildren loved having her recall. She could remember horse drawn carts delivering ice to her parents icebox and riding on streetcars in downtown Detroit. Dot and Oliver struggled through the Great Depression, saw friends and family serve in both World War I and II and would tell stories of speakeasies during Prohibition. She witnessed the golden age of radio, the introduction of television, the rise of automobile transportation and the landing on the moon.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Mildred Robb, her husband Oliver, her sister Phyllis (Robb) Hoffman and brother in law Woody Hoffman, and her brother in law George Riach.
She is survived by her sister Shirley (Robb) Riach of Wolverine Lake, MI, her son Lawrence (Alice) Jenicke of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and her daughter Diane (Richard) Heppner of Claremont, CA. She is also survived by four granddaughters Jennifer Heppner of San Francisco, CA, Sheryl Jenicke D.D.S. of Big Rapids, MI, Jill (Joe) Seymour of Carlsbad, CA, and Dorothy Jenicke, her namesake, of E. Lansing, MI. She is also survived by her beloved toy poodle Moody.
A private memorial service with friends and family will be held. Dorothy and Oliver, proponents of higher education, both gifted their bodies to medical science.
Evaline Priscilla Gilpin

Evaline Priscilla Gilpin, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis, Michigan. Evaline was born on Monday, January 13, 1919 in Owosso, Michigan. On October 6, 1938, she married
Richard W. Gilpin in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Richard preceded her in death on March 4, 2006.
A service celebrating Evalines life was held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the First Church of Christ, 1610 E. Broadway Street with Mr. Michael Riness officiating. Following the funeral service, Evaline was buried in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, beside her husband. Friends gathered with the family on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the First Church of Christ. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Great Lakes Christian College. Envelopes were available at the church and at Helms Funeral Home.
A seventy year resident of Mt. Pleasant, Evaline moved here when she got married
. She was a member of the First Church of Christ for many years. She helped her husband on the family farm and enjoyed her garden, including growing strawberries and pumpkins.
Evaline was survived by her children and their spouses, Brenda and Bert Coe of Alma, Dick and Sharon Gilpin of Arizona, John and Susan Gilpin of St. Johns, Michigan, Louise and Andy Pryor of Denver, Colorado, and David and Heidi Gilpin of Mt. Pleasant; fifteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two step brothers, Leslie and Bernice Smith of Owosso, Michigan, and Merl and Margaret Smith of Brighton, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, a sister and a great granddaughter.
Calvin G. Cain
April 17, 1948 - December 2, 2008
Calvin Cain, age 60, of Shepherd, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma. Calvin was born on April 17, 1948 in Smithfield, West Virginia, the son of Perry and Betty Kendall Cain.
A funeral service in celebration of Calvins life was held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Connie Bongard officiating. Interment followed the service at Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family gathered with friends on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Helms Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions in Calvins memory were made to Woodland Hospice. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
On August 1, 1970, he and Raylene Carter were married
in Alma, Michigan. Calvin was a journeyman mechanic for Central Michigan University for 33 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Calvin was survived by his wife, Raylene; three children, David of Athens, Georgia, Brian of Mt. Pleasant, and Melissa of Panama City Beach, Florida; two brothers, Alvin and Keitha Cain of Salt Lake City, Utah and Louie and Tracy Cain of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Fran Yarnell of Mt. Pleasant; and five nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandprarents.

Florence Marie Colosky Myers

Florence Marie Myers, age 89 of Farwell, Michigan, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at the North Woods Nursing Center in Farwell, Michigan. Florence was born on Thursday, January 9, 1919 in Lake Station, Michigan, the daughter of Uriah and Bertha McIntyre Colosky.
On December 23, 1957, Florence married
Albert Lee Myers in Remus, Michigan. Mr. Myers died in March of 2002. She was a lifelong resident of the area.
A funeral service celebrating Florences life was held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Dave Price officiating. Interment followed the service at Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family greeted friends on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Helms Funeral Home from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and on Tuesday preceding the services. Memorial contributions are suggested to the wishes of the family. Envelopes were available at Helms Funeral Home.
Florence was a homemaker that enjoyed her family and was an avid and faithful fan of the Mt Pleasant Oilers Girls Basketball Team. You could always see her at their games. She was a member of the Weidman United Methodist Church and the Gideon Auxiliary.
Florence is survived by her sister, Louis Glass of Farwell, MI; and niece Leann of Farwell, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Franklin, George, Garold, and Maynard Colosky; and a sister, Hazel Battleshaw.
Larry Bushong

Larry Burton Bushong, age 62, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Greenlawn Campus, Lansing, Michigan. Larry was born on Saturday, November 9, 1946 in Carson City, Michigan, the son of Burton H. and Gladys (Gannon) Bushong.
A funeral service celebrating Larrys life was held on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Michael Biedenbender officiating. Interment followed the ceremony in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Military Honor Guard services were provided by the Honor Guard Detail from VFW Post #3033 and American Legion Post 110. Friends gathered with the family on Friday, November 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Preston Street, Mt. Pleasant, and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Borley-Hanel VFW Post #3033 Mens Auxiliary or to the McRee House at Ingham Regional Medical Center. Larry married
the former Vickie Murdock on April 6, 1968 in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He was retired from Boilermakers Union 169 after working there for over 37 years. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union, the Borley-Hanel VFW #3033 Mens Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 110, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aries 4463. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, playing with his grandchildren, and his dog, Charlie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from June 1, 1966 until he was discharged on May 31, 1968. He was a lifetime resident of the area.
Larry is survived by his wife of forty years, Vickie; three children and their spouses, Lisa and Tim Auker, Larry and Heather Bushong, and Luke and Lindsay Bushong, all of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Connor and Madisyn Auker, Sara, Kaylee, and Ryan Bushong, and Lexus and Landen Bushong; his sister and her husband, Beverly and Howard Dunham, of Shepherd; and his niece, Jessica Dunham. He was prededed in death by his parents, and an infant daughter, Leeann Frances Bushong.
Laura Mae Sprague

Laura Mae Sprague, age 76 of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Spectrum Heath, Butterworth Campus, in Grand Rapids.
Laura was born on Friday, July 22, 1932 in Rosebush, Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of George and Mable (Westbrook) McDonald, Sr. She is a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation.
A funeral service celebrating Lauras life was held on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Peter Trzybinski officiating. Interment will follow at the Delwin cemetery in Denver Township. Friends gathered with the family on Friday, November 28, 2008 at Helms Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions in Lauras memory may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Laura lived most of her life in Grand Rapids and was a line worker for Kelvinator for over 20 years. She also worked as a nurse for awhile. She enjoyed playing bingo, being with her grandchildren, and helping others. Laura also enjoyed sitting on her front porch and was known as Grandma to the entire neighborhood. She was a wonderful cook and baker.
Laura is survived by her companion, Carl Harig; her children, Patricia Sprague of Grand Rapids, James and Carol Sprague of Wyoming, MI, Kimberly and Jon Crandall of Wyoming, MI, Anthony Sprague, Cindy Sprague, and Kari Sprague, all of Grand Rapids; her step mother, Lois McDonald of Coopersville, MI; many grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry McDonald of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Kathy McDonald and Linda McDonald; a cousin, Cynthia Floyd of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Debra Collins and Kathy Sprague; a sister, Esther Bennett; and brothers, George McDonald, Jr., Robert McDonald, Sr.
Josephine Foltz

Josephine Foltz, age 69, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at her home near Mt. Pleasant. Josephine was born on Monday, May 22, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Thomas J. and Sophie E. (Mysliewec) Klosowski. On June 16, 1961, she married
Russell Foltz in Angola, Indiana.
A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Fr. Loren Kalinoloski officiating. Interment followed the funeral mass in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, beside her husband. A Rosary Service was held on Tuesday, November 25 at 6 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Friends gathered with the family on Monday, November 24 from 6-8 p.m., on Tuesday, November 25 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation continued on Wednesday from 10 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial contributions were made to Heartland Hospice or Community Cancer Services.
Josephine was retired from Central Michigan University, where she worked for 25 years as an administrative assistant, retiring in March 2003. She was a resident of Mt. Pleasant since 1961. Memberships included Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christmas Outreach, and the Commission on Aging.
Survivors included her sons, Rugg and Jane Foltz of Hudsonville, Michigan, and Rex Foltz of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughters, Sophie, Tessa, and Kaelyn; brothers, Raymond and Jan Klosowski of Mt. Pleasant, Alfred and Dianna Kloss of Birch Run, Michigan, Leonard and Christine Klosowski of Linden, Michigan, and James and Sherri Klosowski of Coconut Grove, Florida; sisters, Leocadia Tigani of Livonia, Michigan and Shirley Klosowski of Southfield, Michigan. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Russell, brothers: Carl and Thomas, sisters: Sophia and Irene.
Adam Steven Marshall

Adam Steven Marshall, age 21, of Shepherd, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at his home.
A service celebrating Adams life was held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Mark Behenna of Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. In following Adams wishes, cremation took place after the funeral service. Friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 18 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Anyone considering a memorial in Adams memory are asked to think of the needs and wishes of the family.
Adam was born on Thursday, March 26, 1987 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Steven B. Marshall and Debra L. (Recker) Marshall. He grew up in Bay City, moving back to Mt. Pleasant about one year ago. He served in the U.S. Army from June 2007 until June 2008. Adam enjoyed all kinds of sports, lifting weights, was a movie buff, and enjoyed hanging around with his friends.
Adam is survived by his father, Steven of Shepherd, his mother, Debra of Shepherd; a sister, Lindsey Marshall of Mt. Pleasant; two grandmothers, Barbara Recker of Mesa, Arizona and Marvis Marshall of Shepherd; a brother-in-law, Geoff Goetz of Jacksonville, Florida; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Adam was preceded in death by his sister, Deneen Goetz and his grandfathers, Robert Recker and Orrin Marshall.

Sumiko Brown, age 74, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at her daughters residence surrounded by her family. Sumiko was born on February 10, 1934 in Osaka, Japan, the daughter of the late Saburo & (Uto Matsujo) Chibana. She married
her late husband Edward C. Brown August 10, 1961 in Japan.
Services for Sumiko were held on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, with the Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton of Woodland Hospice officiating. Interment followed the services. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Edward C. Brown Memorial Prize Fund at Central Michigan University or Woodland Hospice (formerly Hospice of Central Michigan), envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home.
Sumiko was a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary. She enjoyed trips to the casino, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Sumiko is survived by her children; Michael & Lori Brown of Coleman and Theresa & Bill Hoffman of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Brandon & Jason Brown and Corissa & David Hoffman; two brothers, Maso & Takihro Chibana of Okinawa, Japan; three sisters, Chiyoko, Toyoko, Shigeko of Okinawa, Japan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Goldie Viola Snyder
May 12, 1932 - October 24, 2008
In loving memory of Goldie Viola Snyder, age 76, of Remus, Michigan, who passed away on Friday, October 24, 2008 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant with her loving family surrounding her. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Boley officiating. Following the service, cremation took place. Interment of the cremated remains will take place in Riverdale cemetery, Riverdale, Michigan at a later time. Friends met with the family prior to the service at the funeral home.
Goldie was born on Thursday, May 12, 1932 in Midland, Michigan, the daughter of Burt and Flossie (Casner) Ward. She married
Lloyd Snyder on September 24, 1948 in Crystal, Michigan. Lloyd preceded her in death on February 13, 1994. She lived in the Mt. Pleasant and Remus area all of her life, and was a home maker most of her life. She enjoyed playing bingo, working word search and puzzle books, watching John Wayne movies, and never missed watching The Price Is Right on television.
Survivors include her children: Flossie Snyder and Shane of Remus, Thomas Snyder and Dawn of Newaygo, and Lloyd and Sherry Snyder of Remus; a very special friend, Fay Rood of Remus; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; a brother, Max Bannister of St. Louis, MI, and four sisters: Daisy Carll and Lena Sphon, both of Riverdale, Violet Davis of Flint, MI, and Mary Cole of Middleton, MI; many nieces and nephews. Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Snyder, Sr., two daughters, Esther Morrow and Deborah Snyder, three grandchildren, and five brothers and sisters.

Esther Luella Bardaville, age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008. Esther was born on September 22, 1928 in Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of Albert Louis and Luella Pearl (Hall) Maxon. She married
John Bardaville on September 1, 1946 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. John preceded Esther in death on October 27, 1989.
A celebration of Esthers life was held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Melody Olin of the Winn United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed the funeral service at Memorial Gardens cemetery, near her husband, John.
The family gathered with friends on Sunday, October 26 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral home.
Esther was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area all of her life. She went to work at The Downtown Restaurant when she was fifteen years old. While working there, she met John Bardaville, whose father owned The Downtown. It wasnt long until a romance blossomed and she married
John when she was 17 years old. Esther also worked for The Little Red Shoe House Shoe store, and then in Food Services for Central Michigan University for over 15 years. She enjoyed crocheting, working in her flower garden, her cats, and especially her 6 sons and grandchildren.
Survivors included her children, Nicholas Bardaville (Leslie) of Roseburg, Oregon, Steve Bardaville of Mt. Pleasant, Bruce Bardaville (Peggy McMann), both of Cape Coral, Florida, John Bardaville, Jr.(Rachel) of Taipei, Taiwan, Tony of Traverse City, Michigan, and Philip and Kristen Bardaville of Madison Heights, Michigan; along with grandchildren Nickye Jai, Joseph, Kate, Emily, Jason, Jarrod, Derek, John, Tyler, Catherine, Anastasia and great grandchildren, and a few great great grandchildren; a sister, Florence Jeffrey of Mt. Pleasant, and many nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, John, three sisters: Ruth Grove, Myrtle Pyrett, and Geraldine Walton and two brothers, Norval Max Maxon, and Albert Jr Maxon.
