Jenny Ackerman, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant
Jenny was born on Tuesday, June 27, 1922 in Shepherd, Michigan, the daughter of Laurence and Jessie (Cornell) Wentz. She married
Carl Ackerman on May 19, 1946 in Remus, Michigan. Carl preceded her in death on August 2, 1986. She was a lifetime area resident who enjoyed making ceramics and crafts.
Survivors include her children: Linda (Terry), Joan (Larry) Oberlander, Jim (Sandy), and David (Belinda); grandchildren: Jon, Kelly, Scott, Jenifer, Jake, and Ryan; one great grandson, Teddy. Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, both parents, and two brothers.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. John Boley of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment of the cremated remains took place in Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant. Friends and family gathered on Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions were suggested to the First United Methodist Church or Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Bonnie June Mrazek
June 6, 1934 - June 3, 2008
Bonnie June Mrazek, age 73, of Shepherd, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma.
Bonnie was born on Wednesday, June 6, 1934 in Weidman, Michigan, the daughter of Filles and Thelma (Thompson) Losey. She married
Johnnie Mrazek on November 13, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant. Johnnie preceded Bonnie in death on June 1, 1993.
As a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant area, Bonnie owned and operated the Country Kitchen Restaurant and Andys Restaurant for over thirty years. She also worked in foster care and other restaurants in the area. Bonnie loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed playing bingo, euchre, and listening to music, especially the Champlin Family Band. She also enjoyed cooking and making pies. Her favorite to make were apple pies, but enjoyed eating cherry pies more than any other.
Survivors included her children: John and Joanne Mrazek of Shepherd, Deb and Ray Faber of Mt. Pleasant, and Pam and Bruce Porter of Shepherd. She care deeply for her special friend, Ralph Shanteau of Blanchard; her grandchildren: Julie and Kevin McClain, Jodi Mrazek, Bonnie Fast, Jessica McDonald, Sara Faber, Erin Porter, Bruce Porter, Jr., and Raymond Faber; her great grandchildren: Cody, Joey, Jonathan, Dakota, Joanne, Riley, and Breanna; and one sister, Carol Mead of Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 1 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Pastor David Butler officiating. Friends gathered with the family at the Helms Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5 from 4-8 p. and again on Friday, June 6 from 12 noon until time of the service. Memorial contributions were suggested to the wishes of the family.
Madelene T. Smalley
September 25, 1930 - June 1, 2008
Madelene T. Smalley, age 77, of Sparta, Michigan, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Madelene was born on Thursday, September 25, 1930 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Walter and Edith Carey. She married
Earl M. Smalley on March 30, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant. Earl passed away on March 2, 1985. Madelene was a resident of Sparta, Michigan for the past four years, moving there from Mt. Pleasant, where she had lived most of her life.
Madelene was a homemaker most of her life, and also worked at the Student Book Exchange for a period of time. She enjoyed gardening and being outside. She was a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Borley-Hanel VFW Post #3033, and a volunteer at the Thrift Store in Mt. Pleasant.
Survivors include her three sons: Michael and Linda of Mt. Pleasant, Daniel and Judy of Waterford, Michigan, and Timothy and Sue of Kent City, Michigan; six grandchildren: Jenny, Shane, Tiffany, Phillip, Ann Marie, and Makenze Sue; a brother, Richard Carey of South Carolina, and a sister, Ruth Vining of Ithaca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, and both parents.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with Pastor Dan Siedlecki of the Central Michigan Christian Church. Following the funeral service, interment took place in Two Rivers cemetery, Deerfield Township, Isabella County, Michigan beside her husband, Earl.
Friends gathered with the family on Wednesday, June 4 from 5-8 p.m. and again on Thursday, June 5 from 12 noon until time of the service at the Helms Funeral Home. Friends were asked to consider as a memorial the Womens Auxiliary of the Borley-Hanel VFW Post #3033.
Nancy Jane (Carney) Coyle
September 11, 1948 -- May 20, 2008
Nancy Jane (Carney) Coyle, age 59, Harrison, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at St. Marys of Michigan in Saginaw, Michigan, the result of an automobile accident.
Nancy was born on Saturday, September 11, 1948 at Central Michigan Community Hospital, the daughter of William Leo and Dorothy Mae (Davis) Carney. Nancy lived most of her life in the central Michigan area. She was a Registered Respiratory Therapist for over twenty years, and for the past five years, she was employed with Sparrow Regional Medical Supply. She also had worked for five years with special needs children.
Nancy was a member of the Moose Lodge, enjoyed playing pool in a pool league, enjoyed riding horses, loved playing golf, enjoyed camping (and was noted for driving a fifth wheel camper). Nancy was always known for having fun, and enjoyed dressing up for Halloween. She enjoyed watching her grandson play hockey and football, and very seldom missed a game. But she most enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Kelly and Randy Weidner of Gladwin, and Heather Coyle of St. Louis; a dear friend and co-worker, Floyd Smith of Barryton, and special friend, Mike Hanner of Clare; three grandchildren: Nicholas Weidner, Jessica and Allison Self. Two brothers: Thomas and Prudy Carney, and James and Marcelyn Carney, all of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Nora Downing, and a sister-in-law, Diane Carney, both of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents, grandparents, Lawrence and Flossie Davis; brother, William Lawrence Carney, and a niece, Trica Marie Carney.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Joseph Wentworth of the Central Assembly of God officiating. Following the funeral service, interment took place in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends called at the Helms Funeral Home on Friday, May 23 from 1-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. until service time. Friends wishing to make a contribution in Nancys memory were asked to consider the needs of the family or a charity of the donors choice.
Barbara Gayle Norris

Barbara G. Norris, 54, of St. Louis, MI, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at her home in St. Louis, MI.
Barbara was born on January 2, 1954 in Dade County, Florida, the daughter of Lloyd James and Barbara Marie Norris Godfrey. She was a clerk at a grocery store for many years. She married
Robert E. Norris.
Barbara is survived by her husband Robert of Mt. Pleasant and a son and a daughter.
Services for Barbara will be at a later date in Newberry, Michigan.
Graeme N. Johnson

Graeme Nathanael Johnson, 4 years old, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at his home
The family invited friends to join them at Grace Church, 218 South Main Street in Mt. Pleasant at 10:00 AM Sunday, May 18, 2008 for a worship service and celebration of Graemes life. Pastor Barry Flanders and Pastor Scott Koefoed of Grace Church, officiated. Interment took place on Monday, May 19, 2008 at Salt River cemetery in Shepherd. Friends visited with the family on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 7 to 8 pm at the Dondero House on Washington Street, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Family Wishes with envelopes available at the visitation or Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Graeme was born on November 6, 2003 in Alma, Michigan, the son of James and Kylee Ball Johnson. He lived all his life in the area.
Graeme is survived by his parents, Jim and Kylee Johnson; two brothers, Chase and Ian at home; his grandparents, Vanessa Wineman of Alma, Gary and Mary Heisler of Shepherd, and Jerry and Karen Johnson of Harrison; and his great grandparents, Bessie Lyons of Harrison, Barb Wheeler of Alma, and Paul and Billie Oty of Fillmore, Indiana. He was preceded in death by a sister, Chloe in 1999.
Leonard J. Tice
July 24, 1931 - May 14, 2008
Leonard Tice, age 76, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at his home with his family at his side.
Leonard was born on Friday, July 24, 1931 in Barryton, Michigan, the son of Clarence and Gertrude (King) Tice. He married
Jessie Potter on November 24, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant. Jessie preceded Leonard in death on May 16, 1997.
A resident of Mt. Pleasant for most of his life, Leonard was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army from December 26, 1948 until his discharge on December 5, 1955. He was employed by the City of Mt. Pleasant for many years in the street department, parks department, and the cemetery department. He was a member of the Forgotten Eagles Chapter 3, the Oddfellows Lodge, and a member of an old car club and a cb radio club. In his younger years, he was a member of a street racing group called Shift Masters. Leonard enjoyed building hot rod cars and riding his motorcycle.
It was Leonards wish that friends and family members attending the funeral service dress in blue jeans and t-shirts. He did not want people to dress up for his funeral.
Leonard is survived by Leonards special friend, Louise Jacobs; three children and their spouses, Terry and Michele Tice of Eaton Rapids, Leon and Cindy Tice of Mt. Pleasant, and Tim and Heather Tice, of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd Tice of Reed City. He was preceded in death by his wife, both parents, and twelve brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Sharon Osmond of Country Side United Methodist Church officiating. Following the funeral service, interment took place in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, beside his wife. Casket bearers and motorcycle escort was provided by the Forgotten Eagles, Chapter 3. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Forgotten Eagles. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Wilma Jean Weaver
1925 -- 2008
Wilma Jean Weaver, age 83, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Wilma was born on March 15, 1925 in River Rouge, Michigan, the daughter of Delmer William and Helen (Kunzman) Taylor. In July 1947, she married
Jesse Weaver in the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Jesse preceded her in death on November 5, 1997.
As a resident of Mt. Pleasant for most of her life, Wilma was employed at CMU in the Personnel Office for four years before her son was born, when she became a stay at home mom. She was very active in the First United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, leader of the Young Womens Association, member of the Martha Mary Circle, was a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader, Secretary of the PTA at the Junior High School, editor of the church newsletter for over 20 years, helped with funeral luncheons, member of the Stephens Friends, and the list goes on. She was quoted with saying, I serve as a way to say thank you for the blessings in my life.
Survivors included her son, Jack (John) Weaver of Mt. Pleasant, a brother, Duane Taylor and a sister, Mary (Gary) Bliss, all of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers-in-law: Al Weaver and Ken (Billie) Weaver. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Ted, and both parents.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Thompson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Friends gathered with the family on Tuesday, May 13 from 5:30 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the funeral service, cremation took place with interment of the cremated remains in Riverside cemetery, beside her husband, Jesse. Memorial contributions were suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Wilmas memory.
Henry (Hank) Joseph Roehrich
1924 -- 2008
Henry (Hank) Roehrichs valiant two-year battle with pancreatic cancer ended Friday, May 9, 2008, at his sons home in Traverse City, with his family by his side. He lived a full life for over 83 years.
Hank was born on August 20, 1924, in Lakewood, New Jersey, to Henry and Adah Roehrich. Upon graduating from Neptune (N.J.) High School in 1943, he enlisted in the Navy. As a Signalman First Class on a Landing Ship Tank (LST), he served in the Pacific Theater and participated in D-Day at Normandy and the invasion of Southern France. Multiple battle campaigns earned him the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, and two Combat Action Ribbons.
After being honorably discharged in March of 1946, Hank attended Murray State University in Kentucky, earning a B.A. and M.A. in Educational Administration. He taught History and Political Science and coached many sports for eleven years in East Prairie, Missouri; and Wapella and Sullivan, Illinois. Coach Roehrich encouraged many students and athletes in his years as an educator. He was Principal of Sullivan High School for four years before he moved his family in 1960 to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he began working as a sales representative for Inter-Collegiate Press. After four years in Scottsbluff, he moved his family to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, where he continued to work as a sales representative for ICP/Herff Jones for a total of thirty-three years, before his retirement.
He married
Jeanne Mogg, who survives, on November 20, 1987, and they spent winters in Naples, Florida, upon their retirement. He is also survived by three children: Carol (Chuck Korn) Roehrich, Ted (Marcia) Roehrich, and Gail Hooper, all of Traverse City. He is also survived by his brother Clem Roehrich of Las Vegas, and his sister Joan McKnight of Treasure Island, Florida. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Marisa and Julia Korn, of Traverse City; two stepsons, Steve (Marie) Mogg of Howard City, and Jim Mogg of Bridgeton. His step-grandchildren include Jason Rutter of Traverse City, Julie (Jim) Bateson of Ohio, David Mogg of Lansing, Jake (Stephanie) Mogg and Jennifer (Ricky) Bowes of North Carolina, and two step-great-grandchildren, Mia and Nolan Bateson. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, two siblings in infancy, and his childrens mother, Janice Roehrich.
Hanks many organizations that he was involved in included the American Legion, the VFW, the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, the Elks Club, the Steelheaders, the Michigan Sports Sages, Ducks Unlimited, and the Central Michigan University Century Club. He was a thirty-year volunteer for the Michigan Special Olympics, and past president of the Michigan LST Association, which named him its Man of the Year three times.
Hank loved to fish, cook, and entertain for his many friends. He loved watching sports, loved playing a good game of cards, and collecting cookbooks. Above all, he made a lasting impression on his former students and friends from all over the United States, as his family realized by the many cards and phone calls Hank received during his illness.
In following Hanks wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 17, at 3:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. His family greeted guests from 2:00 until 3:00 before the service. Continued celebration of Hanks life was held at the Soaring Eagle Inn and Conference Center (formerly the Holiday Inn) from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Following the tradition of Hanks love of goofy hats, guests were encouraged to wear a hat to the celebration that he would have appreciated.
The family would like to thank Sara (Jailbird) Gauthier from Munson Home Health Hospice and the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Arrangements are being made by Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it was Hanks wishes that memorial contributions would be directed to the Michigan Special Olympics or to Hospice of Central Michigan, Inc. Envelopes will be available at Helms Funeral Home and/or at the church on the day of the service.
Richard G. Moose
June 27, 1926 - December 23, 2008
Richard G. Moose, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Lansing, Michigan.
Following Richards wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the spring with interment of the cremated remains to take place in Memorial Gardens beside his wife, Mary Margaret. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Food With Friends at the Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
Richard was born on Sunday, June 27, 1926 in Cameron, West Virginia. Richard married
Mary Margaret Mercer in Moundsville, West Virginia. Mary passed away on February 3, 1995. He moved to the Mt. Pleasant area in the early 1940s to work in the oil fields. He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving near the end of World War II. For many years, he was a self employed builder, owning and operating Moose Builders. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, and a member of the Home Builders Association, were he was a past president.
Survivors included his children, Beth Gandia of Houston, Texas and Chris Moose of Garner, North Carolina; three grandchildren: Savanah Lynn, Travis Christopher, and Tanner Richard Moose. He was preceded in death by his wife, both parents, and several brothers and sisters.
George Louis Rappette
October 20, 1932 - December 22, 2008
George Louis Rappette, age 76, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Farwell and Brighton, Michigan, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions have been suggested to The American Red Cross. Envelopes are available at the Helms Funeral Home or your local Red Cross office.
George was born on Thursday, October 20, 1932 in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of George and Marcella (Dube) Rappette. On November 17, 1995, he married
Margaret Rice in Las Vegas, Nevada. George lived in Brighton from 1960 until moving to Farwell in 1991. He moved to Mt. Pleasant in October 2008.
George owned and operated Plymouth Concrete in Plymouth, Michigan for twelve years. He was a member of the Livingston County Builders Association, where he was a former officer. He also was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Elks Lodge. While living in Farwell, he was a member of Saint Cecila Catholic Church in Clare. His favorite past time was playing golf.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; children, Marcie, Susan, Tim, Terrie, and Joe Rappette; also step children, Carl, Donald, and Paul Wheaton, and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rick; both parents, a sister Marcella, a brother, Dennis, and a cousin, Tom Scrock.
