Gladys E. Bailey

Gladys E. Bailey, age 85, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Covenant Health Care, Cooper Campus, Saginaw, Michigan. Gladys was born on Thursday, October 21, 1920 in Wayne, Michigan, the daughter of James and Mary (Martin) Strong. On January 2, 1937 in Rosebush, Michigan, she married
Lahy Bailey. Lahy preceded her in death in 1991.
Gladys was a surgical assistant, working for Central Michigan Community Hospital and The Regional Center, and also for Doctors Northway and Chamberlain. She was a member of the Faith Indian Church of the Nazarene and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. She enjoyed bowling, playing music, singing, fishing, camping, the outdoors, and Tiger baseball. She spent her early years in Detroit, Michigan, moving to the Mt. Pleasant area when she was 16 years old.
Survivors include her children: Robert and Jean Bailey of Farwell, MI, Fred and Linda Bailey of Beaverton, MI, Judith Banister of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Ramona and Tom Walker of Flushing, MI, Janet Kerns of Kent, WA, Lahy A. Buddy Bailey of Simi Valley, CA, and Eleanor VanHorn of Mt. Pleasant, MI; twenty three grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren; and a sister, Ramona Shawa of Wolverine, MI.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Doyle Perry of the Faith Indian Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment followed in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, beside her husband. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Faith Indian Church of the Nazarene.
Lois S. Rank
April 27, 1924 - August 16, 2006
Lois S. Rank, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at St. Marys Hospital in Standish, Michigan, the result of an automobile accident. She was born on Sunday, April 27, 1924 at 935 W. Independence, Coal Township, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Baron and Helen (Preece) Roadarmel. On December 28, 1946, she married
Robert Rank, MD, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Rank preceded her in death on March 7, 1978.
Lois was a Registered Nurse, and was employed as the Director Of Nursing for the Isabella County Medical Care Facility for over 12 years. She was a member of the Winn United Methodist Church, the Central Michigan Community Hospital Auxiliary, the local PTA, and was a member of a sewing club and a knitting club. She enjoyed crafts.
Survivors include her children: Kim and Wendy Rank of Urbana, Ohio, Gary and Vicki Rank of Enid, Oklahoma, Lora and Doug Ehle of Oscoda, Michigan, Rory Rank of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Kyle Rank and Tamara Oesterling of Lawrence, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren: Chad, Christopher, Brandon, Cory, Jamie, Marinn, Aubrynn, Brittany, Niclaus, Kaelyn, Haley, Brianna, and Celeste; one great grandchild, Cali. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and both parents.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Winn United Methodist Church in Winn, Michigan with Pastor Melody Olin officiating. Interment followed in Coomer cemetery, beside her husband. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility Auxiliary or the Winn United Methodist Church.
Mary Alma Rowley
February 15, 1927 - August 9, 2006
Mary Alma Rowley, age 79, of Lake, Michigan, formally of DeWitt, Michigan, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 14, 2006 at 10 a.m. from the Estes-Leadley Funeral Home in Lansing, Michigan with Rev. Larry Foster officiating. Interment followed in Glendale cemetery in Okemos, Michigan beside her husband, Richard.
Friends gathered with the family on Friday, August 11, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant and on Sunday, August 13, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home in Lansing. Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan or the Trinity Baptist Church of Farwell, Michigan.
Mary was born on Tuesday, February 15, 1927 in Liverpool, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles Deemer and Bertha Marie (Deckard) Paden. She moved to Michigan when she was nine years old and lived with her mother and stepfather, Bertha and John Foster. She married
Richard Lawrence Rowley on August 31, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan. Richard preceded her in death on December 11, 2001.
Mary and Richard moved to the Lake, Michigan area in 1986, living in the log home they built. They moved there from DeWitt, Michigan, living in the home they built in 1948. Mary worked in food service for the YMCA for 13 years and retired from the DeWitt Public Schools after 9 years of service. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Farwell, and belonged to the Womens Auxiliary of the Sparta-Esterline VFW Post 3039, and the United States Submarines Veterans Association. Mary enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, making baskets, knitting, and craft work. She was always doing something for other people.
Mary is survived by her children: Christine (Howard) Reist of Charlotte, Michigan, Sherman (Shirley) Rowley of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and Timothy (Lucy) Rowley of Jacksonville, North Carolina; grandchildren: Arthur (Lachelle) Reist, Ann (Chad) Hill, Sarah Rowley, and Jacob (Christine) Rowley, Lori Beth Rowley and Matthew Krueger; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lucas and Alaura Reist, Justin and Jessica Hill; her mother, Bertha Foster of Lansing, Michigan; and her brother, Larry (Virginia) Foster of Shelby, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her father Deemer, stepfather, John M. Foster, and half-sister, Shirley Jensen.
Philibert Joseph Reiss
June 30, 1946 - August 8, 2006
Philibert Joseph Reiss, age 60, in loving memory of a good man of Mt. Pleasant, MI passed away on August 8, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. He will live on in our hearts.

Philbert was born on June 30, 1946 in Germany. He was a lover, a thinker, and a friend.
Philibert is survived by two children; his daughter Brandy Franklin of Shepherd, and his son Damon Reiss, of Bethlehem, PA; two grandchildren, Aliyah and Cameron Franklin of Shepherd; and his former spouse, Sherry Reiss of Shepherd.
Philibert was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Reiss.
Bertha D. Stinson

Bertha Doris Stinson, age 71, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. Bertha was born on Monday, May 20, 1935 in Harbor Springs, Michigan, the daughter of Sanford and Edna (Clark) Washburn. She was raised by Sanford and Gwen (Toby) Washburn. On July 21, 1950, she married
John R. Stinson in Petoskey, Michigan. John preceded her in death on April 20, 1989.
Bertha was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area for the past 17 years, moving to Mt. Pleasant from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a home maker and a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the VFW Post in Lowell, Michigan. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include her children, River Debra Stinson and Amanda Heinlein-Stinson of Lochbure, Colorado, son William W. Stinson and his fiance Pandora Bliss of Mt. Pleasant; son Stanley R. Stinson of Mt. Pleasant; Tiffany Rau of Shepherd and Gary Boley of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Judy Kay, Tina, Gary Lee, Kristy, Rikki, Christopher, CaSondra, Joshua, Anthony, and Crissa; a brother: Sam Washburn and his wife Jill; sisters: Betty Avery and Billie Washburn; and a brother-in-law, Richard Tardell. She was preceded in death by her husband; sons: John Jr., and Gary Lee; a daughter, Susan Carol Stinson; both parents, Sanford and Gwen Washburn and her mother, Edna Titus; and a sister, Bonnie Tardell.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the United Methodist Church of Charlevoix with Rev. Todd Thompson officiating. Interment of the cremated remains took place in Pleasant View cemetery, near Harbor Springs, Michigan.
Violet Irene Smith
August 15, 1911 - August 1, 2006
Violet Irene Smith, age 94, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at her home. Violet was born on Tuesday, August 15, 1911 in Deerfield Township, Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Goddard) Russell. In November 1931, she married
Ronald Smith in Isabella County. Ronald preceded her in death in December 1981.
Violet was a lifelong member of Coomer United Methodist Church. She was a 4-H Leader, a Gold Key Volunteer of the year for the Commission on Aging, and a member of the Farm Bureau. She enjoyed playing cards at Food With Friends, enjoyed going to the Adult Day Care Program in Mt. Pleasant, and her dairy cows on the farm she worked with her husband. Violet was known as Grandma to the whole community.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Richard and Bernice of Mt. Pleasant; nineteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews and her dog, Chico. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Walter, James and Larry; a grandson, Ricky; a sister Florence; and both parents.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 4, 2006 at the Coomer United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Lane officiating. Interment followed in Coomer cemetery, beside the church. Memorial contributions were suggested to Coomer United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Michigan.
Deborah Kay Gilmore
April 17, 1954 - July 30, 2006
Deborah Kay Gilmore, age 54, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2006 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant. Debbie was born on Thursday, April 17, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Oliver Wendell Bud and Phyllis (Willis) Gilmore. She was a lifetime resident of the area, and a life member of the Countryside United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Associated Interfaith Ministries, and a member of the 4-H. She enjoyed painting, all kinds of crafts including needlework, music, cards, and games, and especially enjoyed helping others. She was a graduate of Shepherd High School and was employed at the Buyers Guide as a file clerk for many years. She was also employed at MMI and also volunteered there.
Debbie was survived by her mother, Phyllis; a brother, James and his wife Lori of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Kelly Gilmore of Remus, and Kimberly and her husband Harold of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Jamie (Gilmore) and her husband Mike Vautrin, Justin Gilmore, Nellie Gilmore, Haley Stegman, and Tyler Stegman; and a great niece, Makayla Hyde. She was preceded in death by her father, Bud, and grandparents, Maynard and Nellie Gilmore, and Clifford and Olive Willis.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Countryside United Methodist Church with Pastor Jana Lynn Almeida officiating. Internment followed in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Countryside United Methodist Church in Debbies memory.
Kenneth Ray Weston
April 14, 1925 - July 18, 2006
Kenneth Ray Weston, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Bill Foldesi of the Pompeii Charge of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in Coomer cemetery beside his wife, Shirley. Friends called at the Helms Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Kenneth was born on April 14, 1925 on East Deerfield Road in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Charles Grant and Esther Mary (Beech) Weston. He married
Shirley Ann McLachlin on November 5, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1993. Kenneth was a resident of Mt. Pleasant all his life. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army in Japan. Ken was a farmer who worked at DOW Chemical for 31 years. He was a member of the VFW Post in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed his grandkids, gardening, woodworking, and reading. Farming was in his blood.
Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Denise Noyes of Shepherd and Deborah (Rev. Bill) Foldesi of Mt. Pleasant; a son-in-law, Dennis Schafer of Shepherd; eight grandchildren: Kristi (Hans) Marks, Mike (Sabrina) Noyes, Greg (Sarah) Noyes, Andy Foldesi, Megan Schafer, Jordan Schafer, Travis Schafer, and Trevor Schafer; four great grandchildren: Jordan, Conner, Erik, and Ben Marks; and three brothers: Don Weston of Georgia, Dick (Donna) Weston of Lansing, and Bill Weston of DeWitt. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, two sons, Raymond and Dale; a daughter, Donna Schafer; and a son-in-law, Rick Noyes; two sisters, Florence and Marie; and three brothers, Pete, Bob, and Roger.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Gratiot Home Care Hospice or the Coomer United Methodist Church.
Wayne Hugh Watson

Wayne Hugh Watson, age 68, of Rochester Hills, Michigan passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at his home, with his family by his side.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 1 pm at Helms Funeral Home, 330 S. University Ave, Mt. Pleasant, MI, with Mr. Jeffrey Gritton officiating. Interment will follow at Chippewa Township cemetery, Isabella County, Michigan.
Friends may gather with the family on Wednesday from 11 am until the funeral service at 1 pm at the Helms Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan, Detroit. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Wayne was born on Thursday, July 7, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan the son of Hugh Robert and Lucille (Griffith) Watson. He married
Maurine Lewis on April 6, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. Wayne was a resident of Rochester Hills for over 40 years. He worked at United States Fabricators as a Steel Fabricator, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1958, mustering out as a Pfc.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Maurine; children: Michael (Hope) Watson, of Almont, MI, Richard (Jill) Watson, of Waterford, MI, Maurine Ann (Ronnie) Chambers of Otter Lake, MI, and William (Pat) Watson of Davisburg, MI; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and sisters: Shirley and Sally.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert and Harold.
Eugene Arthur Decker

Eugene Arthur Decker, age 73, of Traverse City - formerly of Shepherd and Winn area, Michigan, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan.
The funeral service will be on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home, 330 S. University, Mt. Pleasant, MI with Rev. Phil Bacon officiating. Interment will follow at Union cemetery, Winn, Michigan.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Eugene was born on Friday, December 30, 1932 in Isabella County, Michigan the son of Herold E. and Florence (McDonald) Decker.
He married
Lavonna Jean Fox on September 15, 1956 in Shepherd, Michigan. He was a resident of the Shepherd and Winn area until two years ago. He worked as a Shipping Clerk for Dow Chemical, until his retirement and was a member of UAW at Dow. He was a member of Winn United Methodist Church. He served on the Winn Telephone Board, and participated in Habitat for Humanity. He served in the U.S. Army as part of the occupation force of Germany from 1953 to 1955.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Lavonna; daughters: Kathy (James) Gross of Byron Center, Michigan, Dawn (Dan) Clevenger of Traverse City, Michigan, and Susan (Jeffery) DiRosa of Rapid City, Michigan; grandchildren: Derik ( Sarah) Gross, and Faith Gross; and brother, James (Linda) Decker of Williamston, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Loren (Wilma) Decker.
Carl Brewster
December 21, 1914 - June 17, 2006
Carl Brewster, age 91, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Helms Funeral Home with the Rev. John Boley officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may gather with the family at Helms Funeral Home Monday, June 19, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Services scheduled for 7 p.m.

Carl was born in Adams County, Indiana on Monday, December 21, 1914 the son of Samuel M. and Edna Mae (Woodruff) Brewster. He was a lifetime member of the Wabon Masonic Lodge #305 F&AM in Mt. Pleasant. Carl was a champion trap and skeet shooter, an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved gardening. He was co-owner and owner of Brewster Welding Company
Carl is survived by his wife Dorothy of 64 years, daughter, Sharon (Paul) Deni of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter, Lisa Lewanowicz; great grandson: Connor Brewster Lewanowicz of Suwanee, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Jack Brewster; and a sister, Elsa Hemekes.
