Joseph Eastwood
Joseph L. Eastwood, 84, of Port Huron died Saturday, August 25, 2007 in Port Huron Hospital following a short illness.
He was born October 8, 1922 in Detroit, son of the late Russel M. and Veronica M. (Alpin) Eastwood.
Joe married
Shirley J. Lepien on June 1, 1946 in Port Huron.
She preceded him in death on January 31, 2001.
Mr. Eastwood served in the United States Navy during WWII in the areas of the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans.
He retired from the Port Huron Police Department in 1984 after 36 years of service.
Mr. Eastwood moved through the ranks from patrolman to Detective before retiring as Chief of Police.
He is survived by his son, Timothy (Carol) Eastwood of Epworth, GA; daughter, Karen (David) Lewandowski of Port Huron; sons, Thomas (Barbara) Eastwood of Young Harris, GA, Daniel (Laura) Eastwood of Port Huron; daughters, Ellen Barclay of Grand Rapids, Paula (Jim) Evers of Ann Arbor; son, Michael (Andrea) Eastwood of Marysville; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ellen Washington of Mt. Clemens.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Eastwood.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday (8/27) in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Tuesday (8/28) until service time.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Joe will be 11 a.m. Tuesday (8/28) in the funeral home with Mary Ann Stackpoole officiating.
Military honors will be held under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Memorials may be given to the F.O.P. or the Blue Water Area Humane Society.
Charles Dunkel
Charles F. Dunkel, 83 of Burtchville Twp., passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 at home.
He was born to Fred and Dorothy Dunkel on October 7, 1923 in St. Clair, attended the St. Clair schools and was a graduate of Michigan State University.
Charles served his country during World War II in the US Navy as a lieutenant.
On February 5, 1949, Charles took Laurel M. Antons hand in marriage in Marine City.
Charles had a number of sales positions until he became the Vice President of the Fabricated Products division of Mueller Brass until his retirement, in Port Huron.
Chuck was an excellent listener.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, clear analytical thinking and people skills.
He was caring and compassionate toward others regardless of what station of life they occupied.
He enjoyed motor boating, sailing and water sports.
He built two homes his family lived in and helped with numerous other construction projects voluntarily.
He was a continuous student of finance and history particularly in Civil War history.
He is survived by his daughter Pamela A. Dunkel-Westbrook of Port Huron, his son Daniel C. (Jill) Dunkel of Lakeport, his grandchildren Jonathan C .Dunkel of Flushing, MI, Lori A. (Robb) Westbrook-Smalldon, of Kalamazoo, MI, Christopher D. Dunkel of Ypsilanti, MI, Brandilyn C. and Alexis M. Dunkel of Saline, MI and Charles F. Dunkel II of Lakeport, MI; his great grandson Cooper Smalldon; three aunts and many cousins; nieces and nephews; and his good friend Cheri Sabo.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laurel A. Dunkel, and his parents Fred and Dorothy Dunkel.
The funeral service will be at 11 AM Tuesday, September 11, 2007 with visitation from 10 to 11 AM in the Smith Family Home - North, 1525 Hancock St.
Burial will follow in Hillside cemetery, St. Clair.
His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM.
Memorials may be made to the St. Clair County Humane Society.
Lorraine Denczek
Mrs. Lorraine Marie Denczek, 91, died Monday, September 10, 2007, in Marwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness.
Mrs. Denczek was born September 9, 1916, in Fargo, ND, to the late Dr. Napoleon A., and Mary Chagnon.
The Chagnon family moved to the Tip of Michigan's Thumb at Port Austin where Dr. Chagnon was a long-time prominent physician for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Denczek was the widow of Joseph H. Denczek, who died April 2, 1992, in Port Huron.
The Denczek family were longtime residents of Port Huron.
Mrs. Denczek is survived by two sons, Nap John and (Sandi) Denczek of Summerfield, FL, and Joe and (Colleen) Denczek of Fenton, MI; two daughters, Mrs. Joan L. and (John F. "Jerry") Brown of Siesta Key, FL, and Mrs. Chere M. and (William) Wasco of Brandenton, FL; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by a brother, Verdun Chagnon, of Tawas, MI. Mrs. Denczek was preceded in death by five brothers, Herman, Gaston, John, Robert and Rollin Chagnon, and two sisters, Mrs. Venice Ornowski and Mrs. Justine Casper.
Memorial services for Mrs. Denczek will be held at a later date in Port Austin, MI.
Cremation arrangements are by the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Marwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in memory of Mrs. Denczek.
Theodore Zeller
Theodore C. Zeller, age 68, of Fort Gratiot died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 02, 2007 in his home.
He was born October 5, 1938 in Port Huron and was a life long area resident.
For 20 years he worked at Lakeside Enterprises.
He is survived by his six children, Brett A. Zeller of Ludington, Bruce A. Zeller of Fort Gratiot, Brenda (Jim) Studt of Sparta, Bonnie Zeller of Ludington, Michelle (Bob) Klaas of Fort Gratiot, and Bill Zeller of Melvin, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Elaine Stocks of Port Huron, and Eleanor Bassett of Marine City, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Etta Mae Irwin and Thomas Irwin, and Charles Zeller.
A funeral service will take place at 3 PM Sunday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - South, 1230 7th Street with The Rev. Donald Doerzbacher officiating.
Burial will take place at Kinney cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to The National Center for Family Literacy.
Stanley Wyczaski
Stanley J. Wyczawski, age 87, of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Dearborn, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 in Port Huron Hospital following a short illness.
He was born on September 20, 1920 in Thorp, Wisconsin.
He married
the former Johanna Jeziak on December 29, 1945 in Detroit.
She preceded him in death on April 24, 2002.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in China, India and Burma, receiving the Bronze Star.
He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, V.F.W., and the Knights of Columbus Council #11756.
He is survived by his son, Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski of Waterford; daughter, Louise C. (Kenneth) Maes of Simpsonville, SC; grandson, Jeremy (Melodie) Maes of Greenville, SC; step-grandson, Jason (Stephanie) Maes of Kalamazoo; and his brother, Carl Wyczawski of New Ulm, MN.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Port Huron.
The Rev. Simeon T. Iber, Pastor will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery with military honors under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7 -9 p.m. Wednesday (10/10) in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Memorials may be given to the Lennon Center, Dearborn, Michigan.
Terry Wooley
Terry L. Wooley, age 63, passed away Monday, October 1, 2007 at his home.
He was born on July 24, 1944 in Cadillac, MI to Robert D. and Dorrine (Heisser) Wooley.
He married
Nancy Sutliff on March 12, 1966 in Owosso, MI.
Terry graduated from Elsie High School in 1962.
He resided in the Elsie area most of his life.
He worked for GTE/Verizon for 38 years and was the area manager for the western side of the State of Michigan.
He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and any outdoor activity.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elsie Lions Club, and was instrumental in the Ovid-Elsie Sports Boosters for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wooley of Elsie, MI; 2 sons, Terry (Sheila) Wooley of Jonesville, MI and Troy (Kelly) Wooley of Corunna, MI; a granddaughter, Casey; 2 grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher; Special nephew, Jason (Trista) Thompson and their daughter Natalie of Perry, MI; 3 brothers, Doug (Carol) Wooley of St. Johns, MI, Robin (Karen) Wooley and Bill Wooley, all of Elsie; special cousin, Kathy and Ben Gibson of Bay City, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Alicia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2007 in Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, Elsie, MI, with Pastor Paul Hane officiating.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, at the funeral home.

Maryann White
Maryann T. White, age 90, of Port Huron Twp., died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in her home after a long illness.
She was born October 16, 1916 in Port Huron and was a lifelong area resident.
She married
James H. White Sr. on May 19, 1932 in St. Clair; he preceded her in death on April 5, 1994.
Maryann cooked for 37 ½ years at the former A & W on 10th Street.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by 8 children, James T. (Eve) White of Carson City, Nevada, Ida Margaret Ostrander of Broadway, North Carolina, Burton T. (Joanne) White of Sandusky, Hugh T. (Rose) White of Muskegon, Bruce A. (Connie) White of Port Huron, Duncan J. White of Kimball, Dennis L. (Marge) White of Kimball, and Debra Sue (Ron) Fowler of Port Huron Twp.; 34 grandchildren; and 50+ great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Cheriki in 2001.
A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday (9/29) in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with the Rev. Dan Bakay officiating.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at 1 p.m.

John Wessel
John J. Wessel, age 85 of Port Huron Twp., died Tuesday, August 07, 2007 in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
He was born February 28, 1922 in Battle Creek and moved to the Port Huron area in 1952.
He married
Ruth Mattox in 1949 in Port Huron.
She preceded him in death on April 17, 1988.
John worked at Mueller Brass, and then for General Motors for 22 years as a Machinist.
He is survived by two sons John J. Wessel III of Port Huron Twp., and Thomas (Amy) Wessel of Kalamazoo, and two grandchildren, Jacob and Kelsey-Ann Wessel of Kalamazoo.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with The Rev. Donald Doerzbacher officiating.
Friends may visit with the family one hour before the service.
