Betty Kaupp
Betty L. Kaupp, age 80, of Croswell, died Friday, March 4, 2005 following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 3, 1924 in Port Huron and was a life long area resident.
She married
Albert Ellis. He died in 1956. She then married
Fredric W. Kaupp on Nov. 24, 1956. He died Jan. 15, 1996.
Betty retired from the Woodland Developmental Center in 1991. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Croswell and the American Legion Post #8 auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty (Mark) Kautz of Croswell and Judy (Dallas) Peters of Maumee, OH; sons, Fredric W. (Marcella) Kaupp Jr. of Port Huron and Gary (Darlene) Ellis of Waddington, NY; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, David (Frances) Orr of California, Ernie Orr of Illinois, James (Lil) Orr of Florida and William (Gloria) Orr of Port Huron; sisters, Gloria LaPine of Port Huron, Darlene (Jr) Norton of Port Huron and Alberta Martin of Nevada; and her special friends at the Lexington Senior Center, as well as many other dear friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Eppenbrock, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Port Huron.
Visiting hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Monday at the church. A Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Church, the Altar Society or Blue Water Hospice.
Pauline Huston
Pauline Huston, 90, of Glennie formerly of Port Huron, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in South Lyon after a very short illness.
She was born April 21, 1914 in Port Huron and lived in here from 1914 until 1973.
She married
Robert H. Huston in February 1937 in Port Huron. He died in November 2001.
She worked at Feads Knitting Mills and Port Huron Paper Company. She was a member of St. Stephens Church for many years.
She and her husband retired in 1973 and moved up north to Glennie. Her church and family were very important to her.
Pauline is survived by her sons, Robert L. "Lee" (Margaret) Huston of Plymouth, Richard L. "Larry" (Gay) Huston of Fort Gratiot and Ronald F. (Mary) Huston of Brighton; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Josephine Cook of Port Huron; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2nd, in St. Stephen's Church. The Rev. Rene L. Desmarais, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 1st, at KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at church.
Memorials may be made to Marian Missions or St. Stephens Church.
Elizabeth Howe
Elizabeth Howe, 96 of Marysville, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in Marwood Nursing & Rehab. She was born August 2, 1909 in Memphis, MI to Floyd and Margaret Howe.
Elizabeth worked for 52 years for St. Clair County and retired in 1979 as Deputy Clerk in the St. Clair County Clerk's Office. She was a member of the St. Clair County Retired Employees Association, the Salvation Army Golden Agers, the Senior Saints, and Griswold Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by a niece, Patricia (Richard) Williams, two nephews, Thomas (Karen) Howe and Scott (Beth) Howe, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Howe.
Cremation has taken place. A service in Elizabeth's memory will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. Pastor Tom Seppo will officiate. Interment will be in Memphis cemetery.

David Halifax
David J. Halifax Sr., age 58, of Lexington, died Monday, April 4, 2005 in the Port Huron Hospital Emergency Room unexpectedly.
He was born June 15, 1946 in Port Huron.
David was a 1964 graduate of St. Stephen High School. He enjoyed camping, riding Harley's and rebuilding engines with his son.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheri L. (Joseph) White of Anchorage, Alaska; son, David J. (Shelley) Halifax Jr. of Port Huron; grandson, Jonathan R. White of Anchorage, Alaska; granddaughter, Caley A. White of Anchorage, Alaska; his fiance', Jane Ann Goodwine of Port Huron and her family, Shane W. (Bobbi Jo) Goodwine and son, Chad of Sterling Heights and Jennifer M. Goodwine of Port Huron; brother, Donald J. (Peggy) Halifax of Fairfax, VA; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family members; and his former wife, Linda M. WolleenPettengill of Haines City, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Stella Halifax.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home. Elder William McLeod will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 8th, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9th.

Dorothy Easton
Dorothy M. Easton, 93, died Monday, April 4, 2005. Survived by daughter, Nancy Hopkins. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6th, Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6th.
Viola Dunlap
Viola I. Dunlap, 90 went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2005 in her residence. She was born to the late Ross and Henrietta Ravin on September 27, 1914 in Alberta, Canada and was a life-long Smiths Creek resident.
She married
Elton Dunlap on April 26, 1941 in Owosso. He preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Dunlap retired from the Port Huron Area School District after 20 years of service as a bus driver. She was a charter member of Sparlingville Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years and served as church treasurer for 35 years. She recently became a member of North Lakeport Wesleyan Church.
She loved others and was always willing to serve. She cared for her family and thought of others before herself. 'Strength and honor are her clothing'She looketh well to the ways of her household'Her children arise up and call her blessed.'
Viola is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, who may have been a son-in-law by name, but who was a son in her heart, Dianne and Stephen Howard of Smiths Creek, her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Dawn Dunlap of Smiths Creek; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stephanie and Eric Cope of Fort Gratiot; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Daniel and Kellie Dunlap of Smiths Creek; great grandchildren, Brandon and Erica Cope, Fort Gratiot; Tyler, Nicholas, and Zachery Dunlap, Smiths Creek; sister-in-law, Doris Ravin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Dunlap and her brother, Alfred Ravin.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh Street. Pastor Lyle Reynolds of Hillside Wesleyan Church and Pastor Drew Mills of North Lakeport Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Caswell cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Dunlap, Stephen Howard, Eric Cope, Brandon Cope, Michael Fogarty, and Dave Klawon. Contributions may be made in Viola's memory to North Lakeport Wesleyan Church or Blue Water Hospice.
John Carleton
John R. Carleton Sr., 83, of Port Huron, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born Nov. 29, 1921 in Port Huron, attended the Port Huron schools, and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1939.
John served in the U.S. Air Corps and then drove bus for Greyhound for 35 years, retiring in the early 1980's. He lived in Sturgis, MI for many years. He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Tim Horton's, and liked to play cards with his three sons. He especially loved to take his grandchildren on trips twice a year. John was also a member of the Sturgis, MI Post #73 American Legion.
He is survived by his three sons, Thomas I. Carleton of Rochester, MI, John R. (Carolyn) Carleton Jr. of Port Huron and Ronald L. Carleton, also of Port Huron; six grandchildren, Tracy (Robert) Mosurak, Laura (Ken) Bagley, Michael (Jessica) Carleton, Heather Ann Carleton, Jennifer Carleton and Andrew Carleton; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Nicholas, Blake and Claire Bagley; a sister, Harriet (Ray) Perry of Marysville, MI; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ruth Benedict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Dr. Roy Carleton and two sisters, Nancy and Janet.
The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital Chaplin, will officiate. Burial will follow in Allied Veterans cemetery under the direction of St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
John's grandchildren will be his pallbearers.
Contributions may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans.
James Buchanan
James W. Buchanan Jr., 70, of Fort Gratiot Twp., passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born to James and Caddis Buchanan Sr. on July 26, 1934 in Port Huron, served in the U.S. Army, and drove truck for many years before retiring.
Jim was a life member of Port Huron Lodge #58 F.&A.M., the Blue Water Shrine Club, and Port Huron Lodge #158 L.O.O.M. He was also a member of the Motor City Galaxie Club and enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan A. (Mike) Ruck of Kimball Twp.; three grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Ogden of Fort Gratiot Twp., and Jason and Christopher Ruck, both of Kimball Twp.; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Jaysen and Conner; two brothers, Richard (Ruth) Robinson of Pensacola, FL and Dale (Barb) Robinson of Peoria, AZ; one sister, Lynne (Stuart) Bass of Fort Gratiot Twp.; several nieces and nephews; and several good friends.
Cremation has taken place.
A service in Jim's memory will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 in the Port Huron Masonic Temple on Sixth Street.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association or the Old Newsboys.
Larry Berdan
R. Larry Berdan, 60, of Port Huron, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in Veterans Hospital, Detroit. He was born to the late Claude and Dorothy Berdan on March 2, 1945 in Port Huron, attended the Port Huron schools and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1963. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the U.S. Navy.
Years ago, Larry enjoyed training and driving harness horses with his father.
He is survived by four children; his brother, Richard L (Barbara) Berdan of Suwanee, GA; two nephews, David and Scott Berdan.
The committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005 in the Lakeside cemetery Chapel with a visitaion beginning at the chapel at 10:30 a.m.
Contributions may be made in Larry's memory to American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.
Maria Rubio
Maria Teresa Rubio, 81, of Port Huron, Died March 14, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital after a lenghty illness. She was born June 6, 1923 in Mexico and has lived here since 1956.
She loved everyone who came in contact with her.
Maria is survived by her sons, Eduardo (Carma) Rubio, Utah, Alfonso (Maria Elena) Rubio, Port Huron; daughters, Alicia (Gilbert) Sanchez, Port Huron, and Elvia (Juan) Rojas, Mexico City; 28 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; step daughter Aurora Pena', Mexico City; adopted daughter, Linda Solis, Allen Park; brother Alberto Ortiz, California.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 16th, in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
Visiting hours are 12 p.m. until time of service at 5 p.m. in the funeral home.
Emma Rhadigan
Emma R. Rhadigan, age 91, of Port Huron, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2005 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab.
She was born May 20, 1913 to Daniel and Ellen Frazer in Port Huron, Michigan.
She married
Sherwood T. Rhadigan on October 25, 1980 in St. Catherine's Church in Algonac. He died November 26, 1992.
She worked at Pressed Metals, R&S Shoe Store, Rickys Drive-In and Raetzel's Shoes. Emma was a member of St. Joseph's Young Ladies Society, St. Stephen's St. Annes Altar Society, and the Altar Society of St. Christophers, of which she has been a member since May 1995. She bowled for over 60 years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose #99.
Emma enjoyed playing cards with the Senior Citizens, dancing, crocheting, and playing golf.
She is survived by her special niece, Maxine (Thomas) Smith of St. Clair. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Emma was preceded in death by two other husbands, William Scheerer and Macklyn Groves; brothers, Francis, William, Charles and Robert Frazer; and three sisters, Susie Gossman, Mary Mochty, and Lillian Robinson.
The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher Catholic Church in Marysville with The Rev. Fr. Arthur Baranowski officiating. Friends may visit at church also from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the funeral mass at 10 a.m.
Cremation will follow, and her ashes will be interred in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sherwood Frazer, Bob Smith, Ed Robinson, Charles Michaluk, Eugene Smith, and Ron Danhausen.
