George Mannahan

George W. Mannahan, age 80, of Port Huron, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2004 in his residence after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 23, 1924 in Paducah, Kentucky, son of the late Finnis and Mattie Mannahan.

George retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1985 after 30 plus years. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Elizabeth Mannahan of St. Clair; daughter and son-in-law, Nora and Richard Lewis of Deerfield, IL; daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Jerry Soles of Grant Twp.; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Carlyle Maness of Port Huron; grandchildren, Brian and Kimberly Soles, Whitney and Zachary Lewis and Megan Mannahan; and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Kendal Soles.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Mannahan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave at 17th St. Pastor Donald Sperling will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel cemetery in Troy.

Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

St. Clair County Allied Veterans will conduct Military Honors.

Memorial tributes may be made to Blue Water Hospice.

Michael Mayer

Michael H. Mayer, 62, of Port Huron, was Promoted to Glory Saturday, March 20, 2004 at home after a long illness.

Michael graduated from Marysville High School and attended Morningside College at Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from the College for Salvation Army Pastors, Midwest Industrial Management, and Lake Forest School of Management.

Michael served churches in Omaha, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, and in the Chicago area. He was manager of several departments at General Binding Corporation in Chicago. He was self-employed as a commercial designer and decorator in Chicago.

After returning to Port Huron, Michael assisted seniors to maintain their independence, and in later years, he worked for local manufacturers.

He is survived by his mother, Lydia Mayer of Port Huron; his four sisters, Dr. Lillian Mayer (Rev. Dr. Gary) Jamison of Croswell, Betty Jean (Donald) McCormick of Port Huron, Mildred Clifton of Walkerton, Indiana and Ruth (Henry) Ploeger of Independence, MO; nephews, Kevin McCormick of Marysville, Robert (Michelle) Jamison, Mark (Kelly) Jamison and Tracy (Terri) Jamison; several aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Lillian Lacey Mayer; his niece and her husband, Susan and Charles Parker; and two nephews, Gary W. Beaumont and Timothy Jamison.

A service in Michael's memory will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004 in the Salvation Army Citadel, 2000 Court St., Port Huron with Captain Robert Webster officiating.

Visitation prior to the service will begin at 12 noon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin McCormick, Robert, Mark, Tracy and Brett Jamison, and Don Gerber.

Contributions may be made in Michael's memory to the Salvation Army Youth Programs.

Cremation arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.

Alvin Lacey

Alvin "Al" Lacey, age 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 29, 2004 following a brief illness.

He married Mary Goulette on Aug. 6, 1955. She preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1999.

He was born on March 10, 1928 in Goodells to the late George and Anna (Priess) Lacey. George passed away in 1964, and his mother, Anna in 1974. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Gall in 1978.

Al served his country during the Korean War as Corporal in the 747th Company as a Heavy Equipment Engineer 1951-1952. He was a member of the American Legion Smiths Creek Post No. 0525.

Al was formerly employed by Port Huron Machine Products from 1959 until it's closing in 1981. He retired from United Technologies in 1990.

His passions were his grandchildren, helping others and gardening.

Al is survived by his son, Alan (Nancy); three grandchildren, Alan Jr., Kristina and Adam, all of Avoca; several nieces, nephews and many close friends.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Lay Minister Warren Priehs of Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair. will officiate. Burial will be in Ruby cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

St. Clair County Allied Veterans will conduct Military Honors.

Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Clair for missions or the Ruby Lions Club.

Catherine Langolf

Catherine L. Langolf, age 52, of Port Huron, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2004 after a long illness.

She was born on May 15, 1951 in Monroe.

Catherine was a Senior Customer Representative for NBD.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Langolf of Fort Gratiot and Erika Langolf of Jeddo; her father, Eugene (Ginger) Fetterly of Port Huron; sister, Patty Campbell of Port Huron; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Liz Fetterly of Port Huron; brother and sister-in-law, David and Julie Fetterly of Port Huron; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Kelly Fetterly of Port Huron; brother, Paul Fetterly of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

Her mother, Eleanor Fetterly died earlier.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Pastor Donald Sperling will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Memorial tributes may be made to Mercy Hospital Oncology Unit.

Clyde Ledsworth

Clyde M. Ledsworth, age 54, of Fort Gratiot died unexpectedly Sunday, April 18, 2004 in his parents home.

He was born March 25, 1950 in Port Huron to Warren W. and Patricia A. Ledsworth.

He graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1968.

Clyde was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was a radioman aboard the USS Truckee (AO-147). He received an Honorable Discharge on Nov. 12, 1970. He previously worked at Mueller Brass Company.

Clyde was a generous man with a good heart. He loved his family, and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His favorite way of giving was to play, "The money game." This was his way of sharing with others.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren W. and Patricia A. Ledsworth; one brother, Mr. Paul C. Ledsworth; six sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Laura) Nichols of Burton, Michigan, Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Gregory (Janet) Osborn of Anderson, California, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory (Julia) Brown of North Street, Paula and Michael Berger of Port Huron Twp., Mr. and Mrs. Terry (Sylvia) Foglesong of Fort Gratiot, and Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy (Amy) Kondrath of Kimball Twp., and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with Elder Mike Ledsworth of Wadhams Grove Community of Christ Church officiating.

Cremation will follow. Friends may visit Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army or the Wadhams Grove Community of Christ.

Dorothy Logan

Dorothy B. Logan, 93 of Port Huron, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2004 following a brief illness. She was born to Clarence and Estelle Dawson on May 9, 1910 in Port Huron, and married Willian Logan D.D.S. on August 6, 1932 in Grand Rapids, MI. He passed away on November 30, 1965.

Dorothy was a skilled typist and had previously worked for Michigan National Bank, Ballentine Dry Goods, and was a secretary at Michigan Mutual Insurance for 15 years. She was volunteer for the Port Huron Museum of Arts & History and enjoyed playing bridge.

She is survived by her two children, Linda (Ray) Moss, Port Huron and Robert (Bethel) Logan, West Branch, MI; five grandchildren, David McDonald, Joel (Kelley) Moss, Holly (Brian) Carson, and Noelle & Nicole Logan; and three great grandchildren.

Burial has taken place in Lakeside cemetery. Arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street. Contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Port Huron Museum of Arts and History.

Ann LaLonde

Ann M. LaLonde, age 61, of Port Huron, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004 in Port Huron Hospital.

She was born to Christian and Helen Picklehaupt on July 30, 1942 in Port Huron, attended Port Huron schools, and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1960.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, playing the piano, being outdoors, and spending time with her family, especially her new grandson. She also enjoyed meeting new people and church.

Ann is survived by her two children, Elizabeth A. (Rodney) Maxon and Richard A. LaLonde, both of Port Huron; her grandson, Hunter R. Maxon; her sister, Carol (Gary) Warwick of Port Huron; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Gordon Peterson, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery.

Visitation will be in the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today and on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her family. Contributions may be made in Ann's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Shirley Kohler

Shirley M. Kohler, 83 of Port Huron, passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 in Evangelical Home Port Huron. She was born to the late Albert and Mildred Smith on October 17, 1920 in Marine City and she married Joe Kohler on August 17, 1984. He passed away on February 23, 1997.

Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, and making crafts.

She is survived by her three children, Kathie Tucker, Port Huron, Warren (Sharon) Kaatz, Flint, MI, and Sherman (Dee) Kaatz, Mt. Morris, MI; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and two sisters. She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters including her sister, Ivernia Barks.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street. Mary Ferguson, a friend of the family, will officiate. Burial will be in Goodland Township cemetery near Lapeer. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Edith Jarvis

Edith M. Jarvis, 81, of Marysville, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 in her home after a 16 year battle with Parkinson's Disease.

She was born Sept. 26, 1922 in Saginaw and lived here most of her life.

She married Robert E. Jarvis on Aug. 21, 1943 in Great Falls, Montana.

Edith was a founding member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was an avid bowler and loved playing cards. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her life.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Jarvis of Marysville; her sons, Richard J. Jarvis of Marysville and Rodney T. (Darlene) Jarvis of Port Huron; her daughter, Christina A. (Steve) Skornicka of Onsted, MI; her son, Mark D. (Tammy) Jarvis of Corinth, TX; seven grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Christina, Ashley, Nicholas, Anne and Hannah; her sisters, Margaret Biehn of Kansas City, MO and Luciel Benner of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Parish or Blue Water Hospice.

Ellen Kemper

Ellen Sophia Kemper, age 95, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004 in Evangelical Home after a long illness.

She was born on June 3, 1908 in Popple Twp., Minnesota, daughter of the late Charles and Marie Lind.

Ellen married Frank Brunn on July 3, 1930 in Lucas County, Ohio, he died earlier. She then married Charles Kemper in 1975 and he preceded her in death.

She moved with her first husband, Frank to Port Huron in 1932 and resided the last 21 years at Evangelical Home in Port Huron. She was also a member for many years at Griswold Street Baptist Church in Port Huron.

Ellen is survived by a son, David Brunn of Port Huron; nephew, Robert Cummings; nieces, Kay Yates, Lorraine Berry and Lois Doyle, all are residents of California.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Lind and Clara Cummings; nephews, Donald and Richard Cummings.

Private family services have taken place.

Burial will be in Elmlawn cemetery in Bay City.

Arrangements by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street.
