Thomas G. Sullivan
Thomas G. Sullivan, Sr. 67, of Poinciana, Florida, formerly of Port Huron died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
He was born August 28, 1933. His wife, Dorthea (Swoffer) died January 7, 1997.
Mr. Sullivan retired from New Haven Foundry after 28 years of service. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Sue) Durrant of Florida and Brenda Kindaid of Port Huron; four sons, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. (Carolyn) Sullivan, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. (Shelia) Sullivan, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. James M. (Colleen) Sullivan, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. John K, (Kim) Sullivan, 19 grandchildren; four sisters, Violet, Jane, Isabelle and Imogene; 10 brothers, Richard, Charley, Harry, Carl, Gerald, Erwin, Darrell, George, William and Robert; a brother-in-law, Jack Swoffer and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2001 in Lakeside cemetery Chapel.
Arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron.
Dean Sutherland
Mr. Dean Sutherland, 49, of Port Huron Township died Sunday, April 08, 2001 in Bon Secours Hospital, Grosse Pointe.
He was born May 14, 1951 in Dante, Virginia to Elihu and Edna (Rasnick) Sutherland. He married
Ok Hyang Kim June 5, 1973 in Seoul, Korea.
Mr. Sutherland was an Immigration Officer with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service stationed at the Blue Water Bridge for the past eight years. He retired after twenty years of service with the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; a daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Scott (Janet Sutherland) Kort of Clinton Township; a brother, Mr. & Mrs. Lannis (Janice) Sutherland of Troy; three sisters, Ann Sutherland of Royal Oak, Reverend & Mrs. Carlie (Margaret) Lloyd of Madison, Wisconsin and Mr. & Mrs. Glenn (Betty) Johnson of Armada; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 11: 00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Mr. Sutherland's brother-in-law, The Reverend Carlie Lloyd of Twin Valley Free Will Baptist Church, Madison Wisconsin, will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodland cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be co-workers from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service: David Crawford, Richard Hisscock, John Jensen, Jarrett Tweedie, Kenneth Simmons and Dale George.
Oren Stamey
Oren Stamey, 76 of Kimball Twp, passed away at his home of Wednesday, March 7, 2001. He was born March 4, 1925 to the late Clifford & Edith Stone Stamey, and married
Cleo Welch on April 14, 1946. He hired in at Chrysler Corp in 1950 and retired in 1981 with the nickname of 'Watch maker.'
Oren was a simple, self taught, and talented man that loved God, family, nature, animals, and music. He was an all-round handyman who built houses, repaired watches, clocks, & small appliances, and re-built motors. He particularly enjoyed playing cards, playing guitar, shooting pool, and vacationing with his family. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
A fun loving family man and good provider, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cleo (Welch) of Dalton, GA. Also surviving are his four children, Dana McGinnis, Lovene Krol, Guinnson Stamey, and Glenton Stamey; ten grandchildren, Steve, William, Melissa, Jean, Sandra, Richard, Angela, Greg, Crystal, and Guinnson Jr.; nine great grandchildren, Steven, Julia, Brian, Kristy, Matthew, Kristina, Andreanna, Wesley, and Kane.
Interment was in White Chapel cemetery, Troy, MI. Arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street. Glenn M. Walters
Glenn M. Walters, 88, of Port Huron died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in his home.
He was born May 1, 1912, in West Branch to the late Earnest and Sarah Walters.
He married
M. Mabel Johnston on Nov. 1, 1947 in Port Huron. She died April 19, 1995.
Mr. Walters was employed by Port Huron Paper Co. for 45 years,
He was a member of Riverside Tabernacle Church of God and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Glenda) Kniffel, Mr. and Mrs. Al (Janet) McDonald and Carol Walters, all of Port Huron; four grandchildren, Allen, Joseph, Kristina. and Heather; one great-granddaughter, Jordan; two great-aunts, Olive Edington and Mabel Davis; three sisters-in-law, Wanda Walters, Hazel Ames and Dorothy Johnston; two brothers-in-law, Harvey and George Johnston; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Nifty.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Shelton will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary and Jeff Ames, Don, Jim and Tom Edington and Dan Johnston.
Mary Harris
Mary Ellen Harris - formerly Mary Ellen Carmody - died on July 19, 2007, after a short illness at age 82. Mary, known affectionately as "Red" to her many friends and family, or "Auntie Red" to her numerous nephews and nieces, was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.
Mary Ellen was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on February 22, 1925, as one of nine children, to Claude and Marie Rucker. In her early childhood, Mary Ellen and her family traveled the Midwest as a traveling family band, entertaining many notable people including the Kellogg family. In 1940, the Rucker's moved to Port Huron, where Mary Ellen attended local schools and worked in her dad's restaurant, "Pops," on 24th Street across from the former Prestolite Company. She is most remembered for the years she worked at People Bank and the Carroll House clothing store, both in downtown Port Huron, and as one of the cafeteria staff at the former Port Huron Catholic High School.
She was married
to Vincent "Vinny" Carmody from June of 1948, until the time of his death in October of 1969. In November of 1975, Mary Ellen married
Fred Harris. After his retirement from the Chrysler Corporation in Roseville, Michigan, Mary Ellen and Fred moved to Aurora, Colorado. Mary Ellen was a longtime member of the Elks in Port Huron and in Roseville, the Saint Ann's Alter Society for the St. Stephen's Catholic Church, and was the former President of the Christian Mothers for St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 32 years, Fred Harris; sons, Robert Carmody of Littleton, CO, James (Ralene) Carmody of Wyoming, MI, Thomas (Victoria) Carmody of Colorado Springs, CO; her grandchildren, Vincent (Brooke), Shannon, Rory, Colin, Sean (Crystal) Carmody, and her much loved Great-Grandson, Conor Carmody; her sister, Eileen Dowd of Denver, CO, and brother, Robert Rucker (Bonnie) of Pinon Hills, CA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent "Vinny" Carmody; her daughter, Kathleen; parents, Claude and Marie Rucker; and brothers, Tom, Jack, Claude "Mac" Jr., Bill, Joe and Jim Rucker. Cremation has already taken place.
A special family memorial service was held in Denver, Colorado, on Sunday, July 22, 2007.
A family visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007, at the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk Street, Port Huron, MI 48060. Visitation hours are 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; with a eulogy at 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Mount Hope cemetery. Memorials may be made to Blue Water Counseling, 1501 Krafft Road, Fort Gratiot, MI 48059, or to the American Red Cross 615 Pine Street, Port Huron, MI 48060.
Helen Tasny
Helen Tasny, 75, of Port Huron, formerly of Detroit, - died unexpectedly Thursday, April 5, 2001 in Henry Ford Hospital.
She was born Jan. 7, 1926 in Detroit and lived here since 1988. She married
Frank Tasny. He died March 3, 1993.
She was a member of St. Stephen Church and a former member of the Sodality at the Assumption Grotto in Detroit. She was a former volunteer at Port Huron Hospital and she loved to travel.
She is survived by her daughter, Frances Mastej (John) Fiel of Las Vegas, Nev.; her son, Lawrence W Tasny of Fraser; her daughters, Rita (Terry) Gould of Cedar, Mich., Deborah (Lawrence) Kassuba of Greenville, Mich., Cheryl (Timothy) Gould of Shelby Township. Janice Tasny of Rochester Hills; 16 grandchildren; -four great-grandchildren; her brother, William Starski of Pleasantview, Tenn.; and her sister, Virginia Starski of Detroit.
She was preceded in death by sons, David and Mark Tasny.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, in St. Stephen Church. Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. David J. Lesniak, pastor, and the Rev. Lawrence Zurawski. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to St. Stephen Church, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Norma Skinner Texter
Mrs. Norma Skinner Texter, 101, of Marysville, died Monday April 16, 2001 in Bortz Nursing Home, Warren.
She was born August 9, 1899 in Detroit to the late John P. and Bertha (Page) Becker.
As a young girl she was an entertainer and singer. She was the wife of the late Elmer C. Texter M.D. and they enjoyed extensive travel together throughout the world. They were members of the Detroit Athletic Club, Fine Arts Society and the Detroit Yacht Club. Mrs. Texter was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed painting. She was a long time resident of Grosse Pointe Park until moving to Marysville. Her home there overlooked the St. Clair River, a view she loved.
She is survived by her son, Mr. & Mrs. John 'Jack' (Nancy J) Hinsberg of Marysville; two daughters, Joan Stout of Grosse Pointe Farms and Mr. & Mrs. Thomas (Sandra) Krell of Royal Oak; step-daughter, Pat Palmer of California; step-daughter-in-law, Jane Texter of Arkansas; nine grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John I. Hinsberg, Harry E. Skinner and Dr. Elmer C. Texter and by a stepson, E. Clinton Jr.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2001 in St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 14020 Hampton, Grosse Pointe Park. Father Timothy Pelc will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Paul Columbarium, Grosse Pointe Farms.

Hildegard Sasu
Hildegard L. Sasu, age 70, of Port Huron Twp., died Sunday November 14, 2004 in her home. She was born, August 3, 1934 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Hildegard graduated from Port Huron High School. She married
John Sasu on July 31, 1954. The couple just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Hildegard was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Marysville. She is survived by her husband John of Port Huron Twp., 4 daughters, Veronica (Terry) Hynes, of Troy, Nancy Baziuk of Waterford, Tina (Steve) Stocker of Marysville, Julie (Martin) Franke of Valencia, California, and son, John J. Sasu III of Daytona Beach, Florida, two grandchildren, Daniel and Lindsey Stocker of Marysville, two brothers, Arie Verheul of San Diego, California, and Gustav Verheul of Bradenton, Florida, and a sister, Thea Ordowski of Marysville.
The funeral service will take place at 11 AM Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - South, 1230 7th Street with The Rev. Bill Bendert pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery.
Friends may visit Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorials may be made to the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Marysville
Rose Valente
Rose Valente, age 95 of Port Huron, died April 15, 2001 in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness. She was born May 4, 1905 in Atina, Italy, arid has been a resident since 1946. She married
Fred Mancini on April 27, 1925 in Port Huron. He died Feb. 1932. Site then married
John Valente in June 1937 in Detroit. He died Dec. 1, 1979.
Rose came to the United States during World War 1, settling in Port Huron until her marriage to Mr. Mancini in 1925. She moved to Detroit and returned to Port Huron in 1946.
She was an avid reader and loved gardening. She was devoted to her family and was a friend to all she met.
Rose was known as an excellent cook and was a member of St. Stephen Church.
She is survived by sons, Joseph Mancini, Port Huron, Eugene F. (Louise) Mancini, Pori Huron, and Robert B. (Janis) Mancini, Port Huron; a sister, Christina Hall, Port Huron; 9 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Ruse was preceded in death by infant daughter, Antoineite, in October 1927; sisters Carmela DiDuca, Sarah Norman and Mary Krieger and brothers James and Albert DiDuca.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen Church. The Rev. David J. Lesniak will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 2001, and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral -al Home. A Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Michael, Richard, Frederic, Steven, Dean and Anthony Mancini.
Memorials may be made to St. Clair County Council on Aging.
William Wallace Westley
William Wallace Westley 71, of Croswell, passed away at home, March 30. 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Port Huron to the late William and Elma Phillips Westley. He married
Norma jean Long on June 10, 1954.
Mr. Westley graduated from Croswell High School in 1948. From 1951 to 1953, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attained the. rank of sergeant.
He retired from CSX Railroad on Aug. 16, 1993, and was a lifetime member of the UTU. He was a member of the Sanilac County Saddle Club in the 1950s and again in the 1970s. He was a Boy Scout leader in Croswell in the 1950s and in Lexington in the 1960s.
Mr. Westley was a member of the Sanilac County Sheriff Posse; a member of Southeastern Michigan Australian Shepherd Association; a member of the Australian Shepherd Club. of America; a life member of VFW Post 2945 in Sandusky; a member of American Legion Post 255 in Croswell; was involved in 4-H horse and dog projects for 33 years; was a member of the Sanilac County Humane Society and the Sanilac County Men's Pool League.
In 1971, Mr. Wiestley herded cattle out of the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming and Montana.
In 1994, he built his wood shop and loved to make bird houses, feeders and toys. The grandchildren would say "Give it to Grandpa. He can fix it!"
He loved to polka, square dance and, after retirement, learned to play golf with his son Shawn, and son-in-law:, Mike.
He- is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Terry Jo (Mike) Mattox of Croswell; a son, Shawn Ray (Vickie) Westley of Lexington; grandchildren, Tanya Mathis of Clinton Township, Todd Mathis of Germany, Tyne Mathis of Mio and Tristin Mattox of Croswell; two step-grandchildren, Jason and Nichols Oliver of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Teal Waldorph of Clinton Township and Breeya Mathis of Germany; six sisters, Sally (Robert) Szulborski of Avoca, Mary Jane Harper of Deckerville, Leona Ledbetter of Texas, Anna Deaton, Sue Babcock and Laura (Richard) Mater, all of Sandusky; two brothers, Robert (Sue) Westley and Gerald (Elaine) Westley, all of Croswell; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sister, Audrey Agar, Minnie Granger, Tressa Burnette and Geroldine Westley, and a brother, Alfred Westley.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, in the Croswell Lions Hall.
