Clifford J. Peffer, 69, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his home.
A funeral service for Clifford will be held on Saturday, July 28th, at 1 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Bartlett officiating. Cremation will take place following the service.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 27th, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday 12 noon until the time of service. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Clifford may consider the family. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.
Cliff was born on November 28, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Burt and Jenniebelle (Taylor) Peffer. He married
Sharla Holley on September 24, 1982. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was retired from Dow Chemical Company in Midland. Cliff enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He especially enjoyed conversing with his friends over coffee.
Cliff is survived by his wife, Sharla; two sons, Craig Peffer (Suzanne) of Mt. Pleasant, Mark Peffer of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Cindy Dice of Alma; eight stepchildren, Sheila Jackson, Greg Peffer, Mike Daggett, Robbie Holley, Ronda Haught, Romie Holley, Rebecca Mullin, Brad Holley, and many grandchildren, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Peffer.
Lyon, Patricia Mae
June 5, 1926 - July 24, 2001
Patricia Mae Lyon, 75, of Mt. Pleasant died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services for Patricia will be held on Friday, July 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Benton Heisler of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 26th, from 5-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central Michigan.
Patricia was born on June 5, 1926, in Alma, Michigan, the daughter of Laurel and Leotta (Wixon) Lyon. She married
Charles “Fent” Lyon in 1951, who preceded her in death on April 4 of 1981. Patricia was employed as the Union Township Treasurer for 21 years. She also held a real estate license. While raising their children, Patricia enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. She loved to read. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as a Stephens Minister, and MTA. Patricia loved every day and lived each day to its fullest.
Patricia is survived by her children, Charles Fenton Lyon, Jr. (Marla) of Shepherd, Terrance Lee Lyon, Patricia Rene` Lyon, Michael “Mick” James Lyon (Debbie), all of Mt. Pleasant; her grandchildren Christopher and Matthew (Stephanie) Lyon, Elizabeth, Katherine and Nathan Lyon, Shay Tyler Lyon, Lynsey and Ashley Ostahowski; and one great-grandchild, Sydney.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, one son Stanley Lyon, two granddaughters Jamie and Lori, one sister Rita, and two brothers Bill and Bobby
Borodychuk, Karen Kay
April 5, 1952 - July 23, 2001
Karen Kay Borodychuk, 49, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, July 23, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services for Karen will be held on Thursday, July 26th, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Benton Heisler of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 25th, from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. and on Thursday, July 26th, from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in memory of Karen be made to Community Cancer Services or Mid Michigan Visiting Nurses Association. Karen was born on April 6, 1952, in Saginaw, the daughter of Emil A. and Virginia J. (Marolf) Krentz. She married
Michael Borodychuk on January 13, 1973. Karen received her Associate’s Degree from Ferris State University and had worked as a lab tech for the Dow Chemical Company for 12 years. Karen had been granted 7 patents and received numerous plaques in her career. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, flowers, and having conversations with people.
Karen is survived by her husband, Michael Borodychuk of Mt. Pleasant; her children, Eric Borodychuk (Kelley) of Mt. Pleasant and Chad Borodychuk (Lisa Jennings) of Grand Rapids; her children’s foster grandfather, Emil Schultz; her brother Keith Krentz (Pam) and their children Caitlin and Daniel, of Cleveland, Ohio; her sister Connie Miner and her children Thayne and Deana (David Jones) of Peru, Indiana. She also is survived by her grandpuppy Cloe.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Evelyn R. Borodychuk, and her children’s foster grandmother Alma Schultz.
Strachan, Robert
April 12, 1938 - July 21, 2001
Robert Strachan, 63, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2001 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services for Robert will be held on Tuesday, July 24th, at 1 p.m., at Clark Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Nancy Casey-Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 24th, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Robert was born on April 12, 1938, in Saginaw, the son of Edwin R. and Margaret Ruth (Janke) Strachan. He was an assembly worker for Mid Michigan Industries.
Robert is survived by his brother Bruce (Liz) Strachan of Tennessee; 3 sisters-in-law, Alice, Joyce, and Delores Strachan. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Alex, Donald, and Eugene.
Serum, Kathleen M.
January 17, 1916 - July 18, 2001
Kathleen Mae Serum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died early Wednesday morning at the Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant following a successful surgery for an injury she sustained on July 14. She was 85 years old.
Kay was born in Birch Tree, Missouri on January 17, 1916, to William Franklin Kehres and Louella Mae Scoville Kehres who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Wayne and William Kehres, and her sister, Mary Jo Jay. She married
her husband of 63 years, Herbert Einar Serum, Jr. on April 30, 1939. He survives her.
She is also survived by her children, Drs. Robert and Camella Serum of Midland, Michigan; Dr. James and Marilyn Serum of West Chester, Pennsylvania; Nancy and Michael Phillips of Mt. Pleasant and Mary Kathleen (Kathy) and John Marchese of Sanford. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who were a continual source of joy and delight to her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 20th, at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel, 114 South Bradley Street, in Mt. Pleasant. Cremation has taken place, with burial of cremains to be in the Fairview cemetery in Weidman.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 19th, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Kathleen may consider the Weidman United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Herbert and Kathleen Serum Endowed Scholarship Fund at Northwood University. Campbell, Emily Elizabeth

Emily Elizabeth Campbell, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, 76, has gone to rest with our Heavenly Father on July 11, 2001. She was born on January 27, 1925, to Clarence and Nellie (Vinton) Phelps.
Funeral Services for Emily will be held on Monday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Conrad Daniels and Jim McNeal presiding. Interment will take place in Kelly cemetery in Oil City. A funeral luncheon will be held following the graveside service at the Black Creek Conservation Club, where Emily was a member.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Clark; children, Judy Heim, Karen Campbell, Trudy Seeley (Joe) Schutt, Clark (Julie) Campbell Jr.; 11 grandchildren, Kim Parrish, Dawn (Roy) Harvey, Scott Campbell, Shawn (Heather) Seeley, Brad (Autumn) Campbell, Becky Campbell, Jade Campbell, Jamie Campbell, Jamie Campbell, Elizabeth Campbell; 13 great grandchildren, James Parrish, Matt Parrish, Jessica Harvey, Stephanie Harvey, Tyler Campbell, Travis Campbell Taylor Campbell, Heidi Seeley, Spencer Campbell, T.J. Campbell, and Emily Campbell. She is also survived by her sisters; Beverly (Don) Kruger of Venice, Fla., Joanne (Virl) Wright of Lake, June (Jake) Reed of Lakeview, and Pat Hillman of Mt. Pleasant; and brothers, Stanley (Shirley) Phelps of Mt. Pleasant and Samuel Phelps of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Graham of Texas, Jessie Weaver of Colorado, and Rosie Brown of Florida; and one brother-in-law, Bob Campbell of Alma.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nellie Phelps; her brother, Gerald Phelps; her sister, Francis Brown, and her brother-in-law.

Jessup, Marvin LeRoy

Marvin LeRoy Jessup, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Funeral services for Marvin will be held on Friday, July 13th, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Benton Heisler of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Chapel Gardens cemetery in Elwell.

Marvin was born on January 10, 1927, in Ithaca, the son of Mildred Thompson. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1945. Marvin served in the U.S. Army. He married
Uva Stellow on December 20, 1947, in Alma. Marvin was retired from Lease Management as a service manager and dispatcher where he was employed for 10 years. Marvin had previously been employed as a service manager for Hartman’s Motor Sales for 10 years and Frederickson’s Auto Sales for 18 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge, the Mt. Pleasant American Legion, and the Alma VFW. Marvin enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, and he loved to dance.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Uva Jessup, of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Kurt Jessup (Marcia) of Gaylord, Carol Sunderland (Tom) of Jackson, and Kim Jessup (Deb) of Gaylord; his grandchildren, Brett Jessup, Terri Brooks (Dan), Tricia Cramer, Timothy Cramer, Dale Hagenbuch, Karlee Jessup, and Kody Jessup; and 2 great-grandchildren Chelsea Brooks and Megan Brooks.
Marvin was preceded in death by his mother.

Dorothy Bowen, 83, of Mt. Pleasant died on Monday, July 9, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Friday, July 13th, at 11 a.m., at Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Max Rauschenberger officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Dorothy was born on December 8, 1917, in Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (DeHart) Hetherington. Dorothy married
Allen Bowen in June of 1984. She previously had been married
to Elton Rountree, Sylvester Fuller and Gordon Allison. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #195 and the Isabella Baptist Church. Dorothy had been inducted into the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, knitting, crocheting, bread baking, her great grandchildren and her many friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Bruce Neil Rountree (Christine) of Amherst, New Hampshire, Bliss Ned Rountree-Allison (Sally) of Riverdale, Donna Rountree-Wallace (James) of Waterford, Donald R. Fuller (Susan) of Mt. Pleasant and Carl Lee Fuller (Sandra) of Portsmoth, Virginia. She is also survived by her 27 grandchildren and her 19 great grandchildren, two brothers, Chuck Hetherington of Greenville, Michigan and Max Hetherington of Dunnelan, Florida and four sisters, Ila Hinshaw of Riverdale, Bessie Rogers of Lansing, Marge Palmer of Beauford, South Carolina and Cleola Spillman of Tillamook, Oregon.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Elton, second husband, Sylvester, and third husband, Gordon, her parents, and one brother Donald Hetherington.
Podoll Jr., William
December 27, 1929 - July 5, 2001
William Podoll, 71, of Mt. Pleasant died on Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Funeral services for William will be held on Monday, July 9th, at 3 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Benton Heisler and Rev. Michelle LaMew co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Hope cemetery in Cranesville, Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, July 8th, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, July 9th, from 2 p.m. until time of service. William was born on December 27, 1929, in Albion, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Anna (Furdiga) Podoll. William served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree form Slippery Rock College and his Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. William was an associate professor of physical education at Central Michigan University for 26 years, from 1969 until 1995, when he retired. He had also taught at Youngstown University in Youngstown, OH, for 7 years. William was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Alma Elks Club, the American Legion, the Michigan High School Athletic Association and AAHPERD since 1962. William taught youth golf and tennis lessons. He officiated at track, softball, and basketball contests. He was a dance host for cruise ships. William was a board member for the Michigan Heart Association and a former board member for Special Olympics.
William is survived by his children, Katherine Lynn Dyer (Matt) of Milford, and Ann Marie Haluska (Paul) of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, Gage David Dyer and Jordan Marie Haluska; his brothers Edward Podoll (Genny) of Cranesville, PA, Don Podoll, Ted Podoll (Barbara), and Loddy Podoll (Louise), all of Albion, PA; and his sisters Ollie Landi (Frank) and Faith Spaulding, both of Erie, PA.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Myron Podoll, and his sister Judy Nichols.
Prout, Robert "Bob" Sheldon

Robert “Bob” Sheldon Prout, age 19, of Mt. Pleasant, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 3, 2001, after being involved in an auto accident.

Bob was born on August 21, 1981, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Jeff and Glenda (Thrush) Prout. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School and Oasis High School. Bob worked for Firehouse 5 Car Wash for 3 years and Krapohl Ford Fastlane for approximately 1 year. He liked Ford trucks and John Deere tractors.
Bob is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Glenda Prout of Mt. Pleasant; his brothers Jeffrey Detwiler (Carol) of Union Grove, WI, and Brian Prout of Mt. Pleasant; his sister Martha Prout of Mt. Pleasant; his grandparents Glen and Ramona Thrush of Alma and Donald and Dorsalean Prout of Mt. Pleasant; 1 niece, Kirsten Detwiler; and 2 nephews Jacob and Brandon Detwiler.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandmother Martha Arlene Prout in 1960.
Keepers, Opal

Opal Keepers, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2001, at The Laurels in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services for Opal will be held on Sunday, July 8th, at 3 p..m., at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Pauquette officiating. Interment will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery in Anderson, Indiana.
Opal was born on April 23, 1914, in Central City, Kentucky, the daughter of James and Hattie (Thompson) Stewart. She married
Harry Robert Keepers on September 5, 1936 in Maysville Kentucky. Harry preceded her in death in 1991. Opal had been a homemaker her whole life.
Opal is survived by her daughter, Nedra Frodge of Mt. Pleasant, two grandchildren, Susan Ariane Frodge and Brian Scott Frodge and her one sister, Bonnie Beyl of Jeffersonville Indiana.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her parents, two brothers, Homer and Guy and two sisters, Mae and Beatrice Louise.
