Howell, Vada Marie
June 21, 1929 - May 16, 2001
Vada Marie Howell, 71, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her home.
A Funeral Mass for Vada will be held on Friday, May 18th, at 11 a.m. from
Clark Funeral Chapel. Deacon Larry Fussman will officiate with interment to take place at Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 17th, from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Vada was born June 21, 1929, in Beal City to Jonathan and Catherine (Schafer) Cotter. Vada married
James Howell February 10, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1984. Vada worked as a volunteer for Isabella County Child Development. Prior to that, she had worked at the Pixie Restaurant as a carhop and the Downtown Restaurant, as well as the Big Boy Restaurant while living in Brighton. Vada enjoyed crocheting doilies and tablecloths in her spare time.
Vada is survived by her children, Linda S. Mitchell of Mt. Pleasant, Kenneth L. Howell (Mary) of Breckenridge, Sally M. Faber (James) of Beal City, Eugene E. Howell (Kay) of Olivet, Michigan and Nancy Jo A. Polson (Chuck) of Mt. Pleasant; her twelve grandchildren; and her 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald Cotter (Arlene) of Beal City, Kenneth Cotter (Sharon) and David Cotter (Loretta), both of Mt. Pleasant; and sisters, Irene Suman of Lake Isabella, Betty Black (Olan) of Middleton, and Ruth Pung (Ray) of Weidman.
Vada was preceded in death by her parents, Jonathan and Catherine, husband James, and one brother Pat Cotter.
Poynor, Robert Edward
August 3, 1939 - May 12, 2001
Robert “Ed” Edward Poynor, 61, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan.
Funeral services for Ed will be held on Wednesday, May 16, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Ron Thompson and Rev. Mark Erbes will co-officiate.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 15th from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Memorial Library and the Alzheimers Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Ed was born August 3, 1939, in Highland Park, Michigan to Edward and Jean (Clapperton) Poynor. Ed married
Donna Marie (Tait) Poynor on September 2, 1961 in Deckerville Michigan. Ed had served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University, his Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University and his Doctoral Degree from the University of Michigan. From 1968 to 1995 he worked as a Communication Disorders Professor at Central Michigan University. Ed was also a member of the Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, Donna Poynor, two daughters, Laura A. Daley (Scott) of Seattle, Washington and Amy M. Escher (Justin) of DeWitt, Michigan and one grandson, Riston Daniel Escher. He is also survived by his sister, Linda J. Cobb (Dennis) of Rochester Hills, Michigan and his nephew, Alex Cobb.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
VanHorn, Charles Walter
May 18, 1946 - May 11, 2001
Charles “Bill” Walter VanHorn, 54, of Mt. Pleasant died on Friday, May 11, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services for Charles will be held on Monday, May 14th at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, May 13th, from 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or Community Cancer Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Charles was born May 18, 1946, in Carson City, Michigan, the son of Forrest and Jane (Baker) VanHorn. Charles served in the U.S. Army from December 6, 1967 to December 13, 1969. He was employed by Central Michigan University in the grounds department from 1967 to the present. Charles loved all sports, including softball, basketball, and stock car racing. He especially enjoyed deer hunting and ice fishing.
Charles is survived by his children, Traci Florian (Chad) of Shepherd and Stephani VanHorn of Mt. Pleasant; his mother Jane VanHorn of Mt. Pleasant; his sister April Hicks (Roger) of Clare; and his nephews, David, Michael, and Terry Hicks, all of Clare. Charles was dearly loved by his family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his father in 1980.
Sawade, Eleanor Louise
July 26, 1927 - May 9, 2001
Eleanor Louise Sawade, 73, of Shepherd, Michigan died on Wednesday May 9th, at Tender Care of Mt. Pleasant.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 7 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Richard Bartlett will officiate.
The family of Eleanor L. Sawade will receive friends at the Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday May 11th from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday May 12th from 6 p.m. until time of service.

Eleanor was born on July 26, 1927, in Remus, Michigan, the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Stehower) Hutson. Eleanor graduated from Remus High School in 1944 at the age of 16. She married
Frank “Junior” Sawade March 14, 1948 in Oil City, Michigan. Eleanor worked as a waitress at the Oil City Bar for 9 years, retiring in 1980. In her free time she enjoyed spending time and helping raise her grandchildren, gardening, canning and cooking.
Eleanor is survived by her husband, Frank and children, Shelly Sweet (Dan) of Mt. Pleasant and Kevin Wood of Midland; her grandchildren, Amber and Brandon “Buck” Allen of Mt. Pleasant and Melinda Wood of Midland. Eleanor is also survived by her brother Dewey Huston (Pat) of Greenville, Michigan.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ronald Hutson and two sisters Lorna Miller and Kay Higbee.
Joslen, Lucile Robinson
September 26, 1907 - May 3, 2001
Lucile Robinson Joslen, 93, of Mt. Pleasant died Thursday, May 03, 2001 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Joslen will be held Saturday, May 5th at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation will be Friday, May 4th from 2-5 and 7-9 at the Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. A Rosary service will be held Friday at 4:30 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 8 p.m. Friday evening.
Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lucile Joslen Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Mrs. Joslen was born September 26, 1907 in Budapest, Hungary to Joseph and Barbara (Szelli) Gostola. She immigrated with her parents in the early 1900’s to the United States, with the family initially settling in Indiana prior to relocating to Michigan. She married
Carey Moore Robinson in 1925. He preceded her in death in January 1955.
Lucile was employed at Oren’s Department Store, in the Registrar’s Office at Central Michigan University, and Belle’s Hat Shop. In 1966, she purchased the hat shop from Belle LaForge and operated it until her retirement in 1972. Later, she would work at Norm’s Flower Petal.
She married
Gerald R. “Jerry” Joslen on August 19, 1977 and relocated to Sumner, Michigan. With Jerry, Lucile enjoyed various hobbies such as gardening, and was particularly fond of dancing at venues in the central Michigan area. She was a staunch adherent to the Catholic faith as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, and while a resident of Sumner, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alma. Lucile was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Council # 1332, and as a retiree of CMU, a member of the Michigan Education Association.
Mrs. Joslen is survived by her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Colleen (Robinson) Campbell of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Frances (Robert) Bollman of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Joseph (Lillian) Gostola of Mt. Pleasant, and a daughter-in-law, Rose Marie Robinson of Lansing. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Valerie Thompson of Lansing; Lynette (Daniel G.) Bailey of Mt. Pleasant; Mark Campbell of Mt. Pleasant; Caryn (Dennis) Manning of Northville; and Todd Robinson of Lansing. Three great grandchildren, Kara (Kris) Keene of Mt. Pleasant, Erin Bailey of Mt. Pleasant, and Samantha Robinson of Texas. A Great-Great Granddaughter, Makayla Keene, and many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Besides her first husband, she was predeceased by her son Carey L. Robinson in 1990, and a son-in-law, Robert J. Campbell in 1992.
Gross, Margaret B.

Margaret B. Gross, 72, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2001, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be held on Wednesday, August 15, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Beal City with Father John Cotter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph the Worker cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel today, August 14, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a Rosary Service taking place at 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made for masses. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.
Margaret was born on December 27, 1928, in Beal City, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Gruss) Breuer. She graduated Valedictorian from St. Philomena High School of Beal City in 1947. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Central Michigan Right to Life and St. Joseph Council of Catholic Women. She married
Norman Gross September 30, 1950 at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. She lived for her faith and her family.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Norman, 14 children, William (Marilyn) Gross, Thomas (Marylyn) Gross, Paul (Karen) Gross, Jeanne (Chuck) Schafer, Stephen (Penny) Gross, Peter (Deb) Gross, Mary (Ron) Fields, Barbara (Bernard) Schafer, Carolyn (Steven) Schumacher, Philip (Julie) Gross, Norma (Terrence) Reihl, Kay (Neal) Hauck, Kathleen (Gregg) Schafer and Diane (Ryan) Fussman all living in Isabella County. She is also survived by 49 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Schafer, Agnes (Ed) Fox, and Thelma Kolarik; four sisters-in-law, Donna Breuer, Irene (Bernard) Kellicut, Theresa (Frances) Schafer and Elaine (Larry) Maxon and several nieces and nephews
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Ronnie and Harold Breuer, and brothers-in-law, Howard Kolarik and Harold Schafer.
Schutt, Rick D.
March 14, 1951 - August 13, 2001
Rick D. Schutt, went home to his Lord on August 13, 2001. Rick passed away peacefully at his home with family members at his side after a courageous two year battle against cancer.
Rick was born March 14, 1951, in Mt. Pleasant to Junior and Emma (Beamish) Schutt. Rick lived in the Mt. Pleasant area most of his life. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1970. He served in the United States Armed Forces from 1971 to 1973 as a mechanic stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. Rick was most recently employed by Bandit Industries.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and greatly enjoyed his great nieces and nephews. He also liked deer hunting and avidly loved rebuilding, detailing older Chevys as well as collecting models of them
Besides his parents, Rick is survived by his sons, Rich Jr. and Ryan of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Frank (RuthAnn) Green of Mt. Pleasant and Mickey Schutt of Rosebush; three sisters, Sherron (John) Haggart of Rosebush, Patty (Mike) Wentworth of Clare, and Delayne (Rob) Flynn of Mt. Pleasant, and several nieces and nephews and their families plus aunts and uncles and their families. Rick will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral services for Rick will be held on Wednesday, August 15th at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Nancy Casey-Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in Riverlawn cemetery in Denver Twp. in Isabella County.

Gavin Michael Neff, infant son of Corrina Neff and Eli Lake, passed away on August 6, 2001, at the Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
A graveside prayer service for Gavin Michael Neff will be held on Thursday, August 9th, at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Gardens Chapel with Father Jeffrey Donnor officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
Gavin was born July 12, 2001, in Alma, Michigan.

Robert E. Fox, 44, of Mt. Pleasant died on Thursday, August 2, 2001, at his home in Weidman.
A Funeral Mass for Robert will be held on Saturday, August 4, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph the Worker in Beal City, MI with Father John Cotter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph the Worker cemetery.

Robert was born on March 8, 1957, in Tennessee, the son of Edward and Agnes (Breuer) Fox. Robert served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked as a truck driver for various companies.
Robert is survived by his parents, Edward and Agnes, one brother, William Fox of Mt. Pleasant, nieces and nephew, Jamie Fox of Grand Rapids, Valerie and Edward Fox of North Carolina and many aunts and uncles.

Della Marie (Earnest)-Pickens, 71, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services for Della will be held on Wednesday, August 1st, at 11 a.m., at the Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Vredeveld officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.

Della was born on March 24, 1930, in Bird, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Esta (Shinkle) Earnest. She married
L.J. Pickens on March 26, 1949. Della was an attendent nurse at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of S.E.R.A.
Della is survived by her husband, L.J.; and two children, Steve (Susan) Pickens of Rosebush, and Gary (Robin) Pickens of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter in law, Karen Pickens of Mt. Pleasant and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Harold Earnest (Alice) of Winn; and one sister, Sarah Grove (Donald “Jack) of Mt. Pleasant.
Della was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Robert Pickens and one brother, Daryl Wayne Earnest.
