Lindsay S. "Lynn" Rutter
RALPH - Lindsay "Lynn" S. Rutter, 74, of Ralph, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on April 17, 1932, in Benton Harbor, lower Michigan, son of the late Warren and Olive (Bishop) Rutter.
He married
Joanne Umphrey on Jan. 29, 1952, in St. Joseph, lower Michigan, and they spent nearly 55 years together.
Lindsay worked as a police officer for the city of Benton Harbor until retiring in 1969. Together he and his family moved to Dickinson County where he was employed at the Dickinson County Sheriff's office, and at the First National Bank for 15 years before retiring in 1997.
He was very much a part of the Fraternal Order of Police being third member of Lodge 100, and a member in good standing for more than 50 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was also a big fan of NASCAR.
Lindsay is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 55 years, Joanne who was his inseparable companion in life and caregiver in his final years; children, Brian (Marie Edwards) Rutter of Aurora, Wis., Vicky (Robert) Corsi of Quinnesec, and Bruce (Anne Cahee) Rutter of Kingsford; brothers, Walter (Bonnie) Rutter of Stevensville, lower Michigan, Edwin (Peggy) Rutter of Benton Harbor, and twin brother, Lyle (Jean) Rutter of Sturgis, lower Michigan; brother-in-law, Duane (Betty) Umphrey of Benton Harbor; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shaya (David) Shatz and their children, Ariel, Miyah, and Isaiah, Michelle (Brad) Pellegrini and their children, Breanne and Kaitlyn, Rob (Jennifer) Corsi and their children, Sydney, Brendan, and Kyley, Scott (Melissa) Rutter and their children, Bailey and Nathan, Brandon (Tracy) Rutter and their child, Addison.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Pat Rutter, and in-laws, Spencer and Frances Umphrey.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Rajala, Dave Rajala, Steve Rajala, Glen Anderson, Bob Bouvy, Roger Smith, Denny Boomer, and Doug Cusack.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Northwoods Air Lifeline.

Joseph Kurcz
IRON MOUNTAIN - Joseph Kurcz, 90, of Iron Mountain, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
Joe was born Aug. 1, 1916, in Niagara, Wis., son of the late Charles and Julia (Skibinski) Kurcz. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1934 and lived in the area for most of his life.
Joe spent time in Milwaukee, Chicago and Detroit from 1939 to 1951 and was employed at several prestigious firms including Ford Motor Co., Kickerino Shoes, the Packard Motor Co. and the Greyhound Corp. He worked as a shoe repairman at Izzo's Shoe Hospital in Iron Mountain for more than 60 total years, retiring from full-time work in 1979 at age 63. Joe continued to work part-time for Izzo's into his early 80s.
He was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was very dedicated and managed the clubhouse for many years.
Joe is survived by three brothers, Barry (Helen) Kurcz of Marquette, Leo Kurcz of Chicago and John Barry of Torrence, Calif.; one sister, Clare Bruun of Berwyn, Ill.; and nieces and nephews, Daniel, Barry, Patty, Tammy and Don.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Getz, Leonora Kurcz and Mary Kurcz.
Visitation will be today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Parish prayers will be recited at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home followed by the Knights of Columbus reciting the rosary.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Niagara cemetery.
The Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.

Cecilia J. Berquist
KINGSFORD - Cecilia J. Berquist, 86, of Kingsford, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Hyland Nursing Home.
She was born on March 21, 1920, in Alpha, the daughter of the late Joseph and Celia (Spokes) Cooper.
Cecilia worked at Pine Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
She married
Val Berquist on Nov. 15, 1947, at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Cecilia is survived by three sons, David (Kathy) Berquist of Grand Ledge, lower Michigan, Steven Berquist of Spring Valley, Calif. and John Berquist of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and one brother.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karen Berquist and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Father Michael Woempner will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Agnes Marlowe Roell
CHANNING - Agnes M. Roell, 91, formerly of Channing, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain, surrounded by her family.
Agnes was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Port Washington, Wis., daughter of the late Nicholas and Veronica (Karrels) Pierron. She graduated from Port Washington High School in 1933.
Agnes married
Clarence Roell on Sept. 30, 1939, in Port Washington. He preceded her in death on Oct.19, 1994. Agnes was a resident of Channing for most of her married
life. She and her husband, Clarence, ran the family mink ranch for many years along with their children.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing and the altar society. Agnes had many interests including crafts, traveling, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Her family was the center of her life and she enjoyed keeping track of her many grandchildren.
She is survived by seven children, Larry Roell of Iron Mountain, Roger (Janet) Roell of Channing, Gail (Robert) Knaack of Schofield, Wis., Vincent (Diane) Roell of Channing, Kathleen (Carl) Sitka of Schofield, Carol (Thomas) Wudi of Schofield, and James (Christine) Roell of Channing; one sister, Imogene Roell of Channing; one sister-in-law, Lenore (Herbert) Jauquet of Channing; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Roell and a brother-in- law, Robert Roell.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Dick Mroz and Fr. Raymond Valerio will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Phyllis B. Weber
CHANNING - Phyllis Betty Weber, 78, of Channing, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1928, in Sagola, daughter of the late Kenneth and Eva (Frizzel) Byers. She married
Carl Weber on Jan. 29, 1955, in Sagola at the Grace Presbyterian Church.
Pyhllis was a lifelong resident of Sagola. She was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola. Phyllis was very good at many things. She was a self-taught musician, learning such instruments as the drums and the accordion. She played drums in the "Country Cousins Band."
She was known as both a giver and a doer. She gave of her time and talents, especially cooking whenever and wherever. Phyllis sponsored many children through the years, going without so those with nothing could have something. She gave lots of money over the years to get Bibles out into the world. She was a very talented cook, cooking at the Ludington Center in Escanaba, and the G & G Restaurant and the Roma Restaurant, both in Iron Mountain.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Carl; children, Clayton "Peter" (Peggy) Moser of Bark River, Karl "Benny" (Verna) Weber of Channing, and Carol (Bernard) Coonrod of Channing; grandchildren, Thomas Karl Weber, Matthew Kyle Coonrod and Jessica Lynn Coonrod; sisters, Leona Alleva of Sagola and Dorothy (Robert) Steinbrecher of Felch; an aunt, Glenice Ertel; nephews, Greg Alleva, and Chet and Margie Weber; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Don and Warren Byers; a niece, Joan Alleva, and nephews, Warren Byers, and Kenneth and Robert Steinbrecher.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.

Julie E. DeVore
IRON MOUNTAIN - Julie E. DeVore, 15, of 723 West A St. in Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Julie was born on March 13, 1991, in Iron Mountain. She was raised in the area and was currently a sophomore at Iron Mountain High School. Julie enjoyed all sports and participated in soccer, volleyball, track and basketball.
She is survived by her parents, Dean and Lauri (Hughes) Francis of Iron Mountain; two brothers, Eric (Nikki) Chrisman of Norway and Adam Francis of Iron Mountain; two sisters, Lynn (Dale) Currie of Kingsford and Tonya DeGrave of Iron Mountain; grandparents, Shirley and Dale "Skip" Hughes of Quinnesec and Pat and Norman Francis of Iron Mountain; nieces and nephews, Dustin, Nicholas, Hailey and Paige Currie, Hanna and Abbie Chrisman, and Courtney and Dawson Stamper; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Julie was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Elizabeth and Emil Bolan, Herbert Hughes, and Doris LeMieux.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Markham will officiate.
Burial will be in Norway Township cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in JulieĀ's memory.

Daniel Maloney
IRON MOUNTAIN - Daniel Ian-Raymond Maloney, 26, of 1112 N. Milwaukee St. in Iron Mountain, died as the result of an automobile accident on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1980, in Marquette. Dan graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1999 and attended Michigan Technological University for two years studying electrical engineering. Most recently he has been working as a die cutter for Multi-Color Corp. in Norway.
Dan was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at MTU and the Teamsters Union. He was confirmed and attended Immaculate Conception Church. While in high school, he participated in basketball and football. He also participated in SAY soccer.
Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowboarding. He especially enjoyed music and playing his guitar. He loved his cars.
Dan is survived by his parents, Mark and Carol Maloney of Iron Mountain; a sister, Julia Maloney of Big Rapids, lower Michigan; his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Maloney of Iron Mountain and maternal grandmother, Mary (Joe) Bolt of Marquette; aunts and uncles, Gail (Lou) Praznik of Marquette, Michael (Patti) Maloney of Clinton, lower Michigan, Ardie (Mike) Barry of Marquette, David (Linda) Winslow of Marquette and Lee Ann (Terry Steinhoff) Tarry of Marquette; and by numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Bernard "Buna" Maloney; maternal grandfather, Raymond Winslow; and a cousin, Aaron Winslow.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian burial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
