William "Jack" Veraghen
KINGSFORD - William "Jack" Veraghen, 75, of 440 Case St., Kingsford, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's followed by a series of complications. His loving wife and children were at his side.
Jack was born on Nov. 19, 1931, in Kingsford, son of the late William Veraghen and Tillie Powell. He lived lived in the area for his entire life.
Jack married the former Marie Voris on March 8, 1952, in Kingsford. He worked for the Markell Co. as a roofer for 37 years, retiring in 1987.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler "wheelie, " and spending time at his camp in Felch. He was very involved in his grandchildren's sports and school activities.
Jack was a quiet, honest and hard-working man who enjoyed all of the simple pleasures in life; his garden, his dogs, and watching the birds come to his bird feeders. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing buddies and all those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie; a son, Danny (Jean) Veraghen of Green Bay, Wis.; three daughters, Debbie (John) Ellis of Iron Mountain, Danette (John) Quick of Sagola and Diane Brey (Ken Raska) of Green Bay; a brother, Fred (Cindy) Powell of Iron Mountain; a sister, Vivian "Bebo" Powell of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Simpson of Florence Villa Nursing Home, and Martha Powell of Kingsford; 15 grandchildren, Jamie (Kathi) Ellis, Jeremy Ellis, Kelli (Nick) Vardigan, Staci (Ron) Laakonen, April, Sara, Mikky, Summer and Chad Veraghen, Amy (Jim) Stanchina, Casey and Jenna Faccio, Katie Brey, and Brad and Brianne Hazelwood; a step-grandson, Lincoln Quick; eight great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hanna Ellis, Kayla Laakonen, Damian and Bryce Veraghen, Kamen Cabana, Kali Stanchina, and Kaile Faccio; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Lee Veraghen; three brothers, William "Peany, " Ellery, and Lloyd "Buck" Powell; three sisters, Agnes Jackson, Evelyn Paquin and Eunice Schinderle and his favorite little dog, Mindy Lou.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Eleanor Miller
IRON MOUNTAIN - Eleanor C. Miller, 97, of Iron Mountain, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services.
She was born on March 21, 1909, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Susie (Troyan) Conrad.
Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and a graduate from Iron Mountain High School, being the last living graduate of the class of 1927. She was a WAC in World War II. Eleanor worked as a floral designer at Stanley's Greenhouse and Miller Floral. She also worked as a clerk at J.C. Penney's. She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and a life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
For many years Eleanor repaired dolls and made doll clothes for the firemen to distribute at Christmas. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, and crossword puzzles. Her garden was the envy of the neighborhood and she felt close to God there.
She married Frank Miller on May 3, 1934, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1981.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Robert Mortel of Escanaba; her grandson, Marc Mortel of Grand Rapids, lower Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Monica Conrad, Sue Nordell, Vi Miller, and Adeline Lueky.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Msgr. Tim Desrochers will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Miller, Dale McNamee, John Basso, Carlton Pollard, Chris Zimonick, and Janet Lindstrom
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice or to a memorial to be established by the family to the Marine Corp League so that children will receive gifts for Christmas 2007.

Laurence Moller
OSHKOSH, Wis. - Laurence E. Moller, 74, of Oshkosh, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Northpoint Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Armstrong Creek, Wis.
Funeral services will follow Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with funeral arrangements.

Rev. Dr. Harold V. Faust
Spread Eagle, Wis. - Rev. Dr. Harold V. Faust, 84, of 1820 Mary's Way, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born on Dec.18, 1922, in Varnmo, Sweden to the late Bror Gustaf and Helga (Danielson) Faust.
He graduated from Moline High School in Moline, Ill., and went on to graduate from Augustana College in 1944. In 1948, Harold graduated from Augustana Theological Seminary.
He married Louise Norton on Oct. 18, 1947, at Augustana Seminary Chapel in Rock Island, Ill..
He was ordained on a call to Africa in 1948, but was loaned for a year to Georgetown Lutheran Church in Danbury, Conn. Harold, Louise, and their infant son, Mark arrived in Tanzania, East Africa in 1949. He was instrumental in building schools, churches, and medical facilities. He spent two furloughs in school studying anthropology and linguistics earning an A.B., an AM. DIV. a S.T.M. and a L.H.D. degrees.
Harold was fluent in Swedish, Swahili, and three tribal dialects. He translated works from Swahili to the tribal dialects for the people with which he worked. Harold did this work, knowing that the Word of God in the native's own language will remain and bring endless blessings when the missionary has long been forgotten. The Fausts spent 26 years in Africa before coming to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Harold was the pastor at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church from 1976 until his retirement in 1987. Harold and Louise then enjoyed their home on Middle Lake in Spread Eagle, frequently entertaining many guests.
He hunted big game in Africa and was an avid HAM radio operator. He was active in the UP Cursillo movement, the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Kiwanis Club, Memorial Hospice, and the Iron Mountain Area Clergy Association. In 1998, he published a book about his experience as a pioneer missionary with the Barabaig tribe in Tanzania, East Africa.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Louise; three sons, Mark (Vicki) Faust of Plano, Texas, Stephen (Vicki) Faust of Spread Eagle, David (Diane) Faust of Negaunee; two daughters, Ann (Ibrahim) Ismail of Oakland, Calif., and Linda (Brad) Karlgaard of Coeur d'Alene, Ind., 15 grandchildren, Peter Bandy, Bahanan, Delmar, Ismail, and Ebado Ismail, Seth, Ethan, Lindsey, and Nathaniel Gibbon, Ingrid and Elsa Faust, Eric and Daniel Faust, Kelli and David Karlgaard; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Erling Faust.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Kelm, Dennis Veale, William Carlson, Melvin DeGroot, Gene Whippler, and Chris Maki.
A memorial will be established in his memory.

Daniel Nick
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Daniel C. Nick, 51, of 5028 Tall Pines Road in Spread Eagle, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1955, in Milwaukee, son of the late Frederick and Georgia (Mueller) Nick. Dan graduated from Brookfield Central High School in 1973.
While growing up, Dan enjoyed spending summers with his family at their home in Spread Eagle, and has resided there for the past 23 years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his brother, Frederick (Sam) Nick of Wauwatosa, Wis.; his special life companion, Florence "Cookie" Liddle of Commonwealth, Wis.; nieces and nephews, Frederick, Zachary and Kaitlyn; and many friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.

Donald F. DeClark
KINGSFORD - Donald F. DeClark, 81, of 501 N. Riverhills Road in Kingsford, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, in Sun City, Ariz.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 2, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford, Memorial Hospice in Iron Mountain, or the Dickinson County Cancer Unit in Iron Mountain.

Helen E. Lehto
IRON MOUNTAIN - Helen Elizabeth Johnson Magnuson Lehto, 90, of Breitung Township, passed peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at the Florence Villa Nursing Home. She lived a happy and active life.
She was born June 12, 1916, in Escanaba, the first child of the late Emil and Julena (Anderson) Johnson. Helen grew up with her brother, Roy and sister, Jeanette and lived nearly all her life in the Twin Falls area, north of Iron Mountain.
In 1932, she graduated from Kingsford High School.
Helen met and married Clarence Magnuson on her 21st birthday, June 12, 1937. Clarence passed away in 1954.
She married Sulho 'sandy' Lehto in 1969. He preceded her in death in 1985 as did her brother, Roy Johnson in 2002 and her only daughter, Julie Robinson in December 2005.
Helen had been an active member of Trinity United Methodist and more recently, a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, taking Swedish language classes and the 500 card club. Helen was an excellent cook and baker. She baked Swedish rye bread and sweet rolls into her late 80s. She had been the caregiver for Meryl Melin for several years.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Susan) Magnuson of Beaverton. Ore. and Jerry (Doreene) Magnuson of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a son-in-law, Larry Robinson of Fern Township; a sister, Jeanette Burak of Gladstone; five grandchildren, Lindsay Magnuson, Anne (Adam) Magnuson Miller, Courtney (David) Magnuson Davies, G.T. (Kari) Magnuson, and Bradley Robinson; five great-grandchildren, Spencer and Ellie Davies, Arika and Alex Miller, and Lilli Magnuson and several nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 11a.m. at the church. Rev. James Chinery will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Francis N. Monette
IRON MOUNTAIN - Francis N. Monette, 86, of W7879 Lake Antoine Road in Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Dec.17, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Niagara, Wis., son of the late Frank and Eva (Nault) Monette. Fran graduated from Kingsford High School in 1938. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was very proud to have served his country.
On Jan. 17, 1946, he married Alice Bednarz in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1991.
Fran worked at the Ford Motor Co. and the Galley restaurant on the corner of Carpenter Avenue and Breitung Avenue while he owned and operated three grocery stores in the area, the latest one still operating as Monette's grocery store in Kingsford.
Fran was an excellent craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands. He built several homes including two of his own. He also enjoyed gardening, dancing, and cooking. He was a member of American Martyrs Church and the Carpenter-Clash American Legion Post 363.
He is survived by four sons, Paul (Linda) Monette of Stephenson, Peter Monette of Kingsford, Alan (Ranee) Monette of Iron Mountain and Michael (Frances) Monette of Kingsford; one daughter, Suzanne (Jon) Harry of Iron Mountain; his significant other, Claire Fontecchio of Kingsford; one brother, Gregory (Patricia) Monette of Houghton Lake, lower Michigan; nine grandchildren, Scott and Todd Monette, Kristen Janousek, Nicole and Brandon Monette, Aaron and Alex Monette and Tressa and Marcus Harry and five great-grandchildren, Tia and Tayler Monette, Marleigh and Magdalena McKinnon, and Paige Janousek.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home, followed by military services conducted by the American Legion Post 363.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at the American Martyrs Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Pallbearers will be Scott, Todd, Aaron and Brandon Monette, Marcus Harry and Greg Monette.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Kingsford Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.
