Marlene Fredericks
CRYSTAL FALLS - Marlene A. Fredericks, 69, of 615 E. Superior Ave. in Crystal Falls, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at her home.
She was born July 4, 1936, in Racine, Wis., daughter of the late William and Florence (Schmoll) Becker. Marlene was a 1954 graduate of Park High School in Racine.
She married
Ronald Fredericks on March 6, 1954, in Racine. They have resided in Crystal Falls since 1975. Marlene owned and operated Fredericks Finer Foods with her husband from 1975 until 1992 when they sold the business.
She was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and taught religious education for many years. Marlene enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Women's Bowling League.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; six children, John (Clara) Fredericks of Kenosha, Wis., Joy Fredericks, James (Bonnie) Fredericks, Jeff (Joannie) Fredericks and Jerry Fredericks, all of Crystal Falls, and Jay Fredericks of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Joanne (Frank) Santapola of Kenosha; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Marlene was preceded in death by a brother, William Becker; two sisters, Lois and Kappy and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Fredericks.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls.
Funeral services will follow at noon at the church. Fr. Dino Silvestrini will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial cemetery.

Irwin Swanson
KINGSFORD - I. James "Jim" Swanson, 76, of 109 N. Elizabeth St. in Kingsford. died, Monday, April 3, 2006, at ManorCare Health Care Services in Kingsford.
He was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Kingsford, son of the late Egnar and Beda (Larson) Swanson. Jim was a 1948 graduate of Kingsford High School and served from 1950-1952 with the United States Army.
He married
the former Carmen Peterson on Nov. 28, 1953, in Iron Mountain. Jim worked for Red Owl grocery stores for 15 years. He then owned and operated Jim's Market in East Kingsford for nine years. Jim retired in 1992, after working in the personnel and production departments at Grede Foundry for 25 years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and had been very involved in the United Way through Grede Foundry. He was a 10-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross, was a past member of the Carpenter-Clash American Legion Post 363 and the Norway Moose Lodge. Jim enjoyed golfing, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed his yearly bus trip to a Cubs game. He loved chauffeuring his kids and grandkids in "Papa's" taxi.
Jim is survived by his wife Carmen; his children, Tim (Renee) Swanson of Kingsford, Sheryl (Paul) Strabavy of Whiting, Ind., Karen (Paul) Paupore of Kingsford, Pam (Dennis) Smart of Pembine, Wis. and Cindi (Brad) Strehlow of Kingsford and his grandchildren, Ellie and Morgan Swanson, Ryan and Kevin Zurek, Paul Strabavy, Jessica (Craig) Recla, Buddy Paupore, Adam (Lean) Smart, Amanda Smart and Piper, Maggie and Clairice Strehlow.
Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Swanson of Seattle, Wash.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. at the church. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate.

William MIller
KINGSFORD - William R. "Bill" Miller, 59, of Kingsford, formerly of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his home.
He was born on Feb.17, 1947. Bill has been a resident of this area his entire life and was a 1965 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1969.
Bill married
the former Roxanna "Roxie" Johns on Sept. 7, 1968, in Kingsford. He was co-founder of W. Miller Inc. in 1972.
Bill has held a license as a professional engineer from the state of Michigan since 1973.
He was a member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Masonic Lodge, the Ahmed Temple of Marquette, and the Royal Order of Jesters UP Court 180 of Michigan. Bill also was an elder at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time at his camp. Bill loved spending time with family, friends and his dog Nestle.
Bill is survived by his wife, Roxie; a son, Bill (Debbie) Miller of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Amanda "Mana" List of Iron Mountain; his mother, Caroline "Tillie" Miller of Kingsford; mother- in-law, Beatrice Johns of Kingsford; two brothers, Robert Miller of Pennsylvania and New York and Rodney (Lynn) Miller of Texas; two grandchildren, Thomas and Stephanie List of Iron Mountain; and niece and nephew, Derek and Allyson Miller of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter in 1998 and his father in law, Tommy Johns in 1994.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory to the Grace Presbyterian Church building fund.

Daniel Olson
KINGSFORD - Daniel R. Olson, 27, of 408 Fairmount St. in Kingsford, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1979, in Iron Mountain. Dan has been a resident of this area for most of his life.
He enjoyed the outdoors, playing his guitar and tattooing. He was a loving uncle to his two nephews Clay Olson and Christopher Maynard.
Dan is survived by his father, Charles Maynard of Arizona; grandparents, Donald and Alice Olson of Aurora, Wis.; brothers, Charlie Maynard of Iron Mountain, Tom Olson of Ionia, lower Michigan and Scott Maynard and Clint Allen of Marquette; a half-brother, Eric Maynard of Norway and half-sister, Cherish Nelson of Niagara.; his special friend, Rebecca Waligursky; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dan was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Olson Jr. and his mother, Jackie Olson.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Donald Mande
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Donald John Mande, 74, of Spread Eagle, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at his home in Spread Eagle.
Mr. Mande was born on Sept. 4, 1931, in Green Bay, Wis, the son of the late John and Helen (Jicha) Mande.
He served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines of the Great Lakes. He retired as a master electrician from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 219 after 32 years. He was a member of the Wisconsin Tavern League as the owner of the Castaway Bar for the last 30 years in Spread Eagle.
He is survived by his son, John; two daughters, Lynn (Ben) Mande-Rollins, and Meg Mande; his granddaughter, Jacquelyn Rollins; a sister, Kathryn (Mande) Kemp and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with our father's wishes there will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit's Loan Closet at 1401 1/2 S. Carpenter Ave., Iron Mountain, Michigan, 49801.

Edna Pollock
NIAGARA, Wis. - Edna E. Pollock, 96, of 501 Madison Ave., Niagara, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara.
She was born Aug. 21, 1909, in Hutchins, Wis., daughter of the late Anton and Ellen (Abraham) Schlais.
Edna married
Clifford M. Pollock and he preceded her in death in 1968. Following Clifford's death, Edna moved to Grosse Pointe Park, lower Michigan for about 30 years. She then came back to the area about seven years ago.
Edna worked as a nurse's aide for Freeman Convalescent Home in Kingsford and also for Krohl Bros. in Kingsford. She enjoyed embroidering and was an avid harmonica player since age seven.
She is survived by a son, Duane (Sue) Pollock of Breitung Township; three daughters, Arlene Showinsky of Breitung Township, Elaine Cheney of Kingsford, and JoAnn Ritt of Westfield, Wis.; a sister, Esther Slater of Wittenburg, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Pollock Jr.; an infant daughter, Beverly Pollock; and a brother, George Schlais.
Visitation will be on Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Erickson and Pastor William Condray will co-officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Mattoon, Wis.

Frances Gasparach
IRON MOUNTAIN - Frances L. Gasparach, 96, died on Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Freeman's Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1909, in Houghton, the daughter of the late Matthew and Agnes (Tomac) Gasparach.
Frances was a longtime resident of Iron Mountain. She was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Frances is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Maynarich and Bertha Stimac and four brothers, John, Joseph, Anthony, and Stephen Gasparach.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11a.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Fr. Michael Woempner will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Helen Tousignant
IRON MOUNTAIN - Helen G. Tousignant, 77, of 1002 Apollo Dr. Iron Mountain, died Weds March 22, 2006 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. She was born on July 27, 1928 in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Norman and Edna (Mercier) Dishneau.
She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1946. She lived in Illinois for many years until moving back to Iron Mountain in 1986.
Helen enjoyed collecting clowns and Avon collectibles.
She married
Edward "Bub" Tousignant on July 5, 1947 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death in 2001.
She is survived by her son Gary Norman Tousignant of South Elgin, IL, two sisters Audrey (Jack) Grosso of Green Bay and LaVerne (Albert) Calcari of Waukegan, IL, one brother Norman (Nancy) Dishneau of Watertown, WI,
three grandchildren Shelley Ann Tousignant, Gary Edward (Aimee) Tousignant, and Mark Alan Tousignant and two great grandchildren Emma and Mason Tousignant.
Helen was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Bobbie Tousignant and two sisters Joyce Ponzio and Shirley Dishneau.
At the family's request there will be no visitation.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Illinois.
