James Lucas
SAGOLA - James D. Lucas, 77, of Sagola, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born May 16, 1928, in Ray, N.D., son of the late James and Helma (Nelson) Lucas.
At a young age, he moved to northern Minnesota with his family. Jim served in the Naval Airforce during the Korean War, and later served in the National Guard for many years.
On April 26, 1952, he married Joanne Capanoli in Buhl, Minn. They moved to Sagola in 1964 and have been residents since that time. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid Nascar fan. He enjoyed times spent with his family at the camp. He was a very devoted grandpa and was always in attendance for his grandsons' sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; one son, James (Valerie) Lucas of Breitung Township; four grandsons, Adam (Sarah Carlson) Lucas of Green Bay, Wis. and Andrew, Allen, and Austin Lucas, all of Breitung Township; one brother-in-law, Mario (Pat) Capanoli and one sister-in-law, Anina Capanoli, both of Hibbing, Minn. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his only sister; Helen Passard on Oct. 3, 2005
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adam, Andrew, Allen and Austin Lucas, Gary Passard, and John Carlson.
The family has entrusted The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Marcelia Anderson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Marcelia M. Anderson, 87, of 401 East D St., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
Marcelia was born May 26, 1918, in Rust, Wis., daughter of the late Richard and Caroline (Gastyer) Sheldon. She was a lifelong resident of this area.
Marcelia married Paul G. Anderson on June 5, 1935, in Foster City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1993.
Marcelia was a member of First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards at the senior center.
She is survived by a son, Delbert (Earlette) Anderson of Rosholt, Wis.; two brothers, Kenneth (Jaclyn) Sheldon and Jack (Jeanette) Sheldon, both of Norway Lake; three sisters, Dorothy (Donald) Wickman of Spread Eagle, Wis., Beverly (Ray) Wickman of Livonia, lower Michigan, and Alberta (David) Mattson of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren, David Anderson, John (Julie) Anderson, Deanna (Dan) Letizia, Barbara (Daryl) Miller and Dawn Pengrazi; six great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Gabrielle Miller, Jaclyn and Jamie Anderson, Jeffrey Pengrazi and Timothy Letizia and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Anderson; a brother, Gerald Sheldon; and two sisters, Loretta Nelson and Delores Schei.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Rev. Gene Wickman will officiate.
Burial will be in Felch cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Elisabeth Smith
GOODMAN, WIS. - Elisabeth 'Lis' Smith, 74, of Goodman, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1931, in Besigheim, Germany, the daughter of the late Adolf and Rosa Scheufler.
She was an active member of Goodman United Protestant Church. Lis enjoyed fishing and camping.
Lis married Al Smith in Ludwigsberg, Germany.
She is survived by her husband, Al; her son, Edwin (Diane) Smith of Goodman; three grandsons, Michael (Samantha) Smith, David Smith, and Craig Smith, all of Goodman; a brother, Rolf Scheufler and a sister, Margarite Dreja, both of Germany.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Goodman Union Protestant Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Patricia Nolet will officiate.
Burial will be in the Glenwood cemetery in Goodman.
The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is assisting the family with arrangements.

Frances LeVasseur
IRON MOUNTAIN - Frances E. LeVasseur, 85, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1919, in Sidnaw, Mich., daughter of the late Delphis and Eva (Landry) LeVasseur.
Frances has been a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain moving here with her family when she was an infant. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School Class of 1936.
She was employed at the city of Iron Mountain city offices for 33 years as an executive secretary in the city engineer's office and the chief accounting officer department, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Daughters of Isabella.
Frances is survived by numerous cousins in the United States and Canada.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie LeVasseur.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
The family suggests that flowers be omitted.

Sharon Champagne
NORWAY - Sharon C. Champagne, 62, of 701 Railroad Ave., Norway, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at her home.
Sharon was born March 9, 1943, in San Francisco, Calf. She has been a resident of this area for most of her life. She was a graduate of Kingsford High School and attended Dundon's Business College.
She married Randall Champagne on May 15, 1965, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
Sharon was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in the church choir. She loved cats and enjoyed musicals, dancing, reading and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Luba.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Randy; three sons, David (Kristine) Champagne of Quinnesec, Chris (Sherri) Champagne of Niagara, Wis., and Drew (Heather) Champagne of Niagara; her mother, Delores (Davidson) Luba of Kingsford; seven grandchildren, Marjorie, Nathan, Bradley, Heather, Tyler Rose, Chase and Noelle, and a special godchild, Carin Paupore.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Oct. 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at noon at the church. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate.
Burial will be in the Niagara cemetery.
Memorials can be made in her memory to Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.

Gerald Janeshek
KINGSFORD - Gerald D. Janeshek, 78, of 608 Roycroft St., Kingsford, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1926, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Frank and Rose (Urban) Janeshek.
He grew up in Iron Mountain, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1944. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving 14 months overseas in the South Pacific.
He was employed at Niagara of Wisconsin Paper Mill for 39 years as a boiler room operator, retiring in 1988. Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain and the Golden K, where he sang with the Golden Throats.
Jerry was honored in 1995 in Escanaba as a Bresnan Super Senior for Bresnan Communications, and was able to meet Hillary Clinton.
He was an avid deer hunter and Detroit Lions Fan. For many years, he enjoyed bowling, traveling, and playing bocce ball.
He married the former Joyce Johnson of Quinnesec on May 22, 1948, at Quinnesec United Methodist Church. Jerry and Joyce cherished 57 years of marriage. They have two children, Russell (Patricia) of Green Bay, Wis. and Wendy (David) Hulce of DePere, Wis. He was the loving grandfather of Brian Janeshek, Staci Janeshek, and Megan Hulce and great-grandfather of Brianna Kay.
Jerry is also survived by three sisters, Vivian Tremain, Rosemary Gayan and Joyce (Norman) Shewmaker, all of Kingsford; a brother-in-law, Clarence 'Bic' (Lois) Johnson of Florence, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Tess Castelaz of Norway and Thelma Rodman of Quinnesec; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank and two sisters, Marion Huyrck and Doris LaDuron.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Rev. David Snyder will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery. Military graveside services will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50.

Elizabeth Payant
SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. - Elizabeth Lee Payant, 80, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in Sun City West.
Liz grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan School of Nursing.
She has had successful careers as a registered nurse, a realtor in Detroit, and an author. Living in Sun City West with her husband, William Payant, she worked as a reporter for The Wester, wrote poetry, published one humorous book about family life and squirrels and was working on another about life in nursing school.
She is survived by her husband, William Payant; her sister, Dawn 'Gail' Wellnitz of Kingsford and her brother, Pat Lee of Milwaukee. She and her husband, Bill shared 14 children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
