Van Orden, Eva Irene

Eva Irene VanOrden, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died on Saturday, January 6, at the Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral services for Eva Irene VanOrden will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Steven Bradshaw of the Central Assembly of God will officiate. Interment will take place at the Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, January 9th, from 3–7 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Eva may consider Friends of Isabella Seniors or to a charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Eva was born January 27, 1913, the daughter of Roy Wallace and Nettie (Gross) Wallace.
Eva married
Edward VanOrden in 1928. She had worked at the Mt. Pleasant Center as a Nurse’s Attendant.
Eva is survived by her children, Betty Weller (George) of Florida, Louis VanOrden (Jerri) of Mt. Pleasant, Dale VanOrden of Crystal, MI, Doris Mumy of Midland, Larry VanOrden (Jeanne) of Midland, Robert VanOrden (Barbara) of Missouri, Roy VanOrden of Adrian, Linda Duran (Ray) of Chicago, Ill., Paul VanOrden (Lynda) of Mt. Pleasant; 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy Martinez of Mt. Pleasant and Ruby Clymer (Orville) of Florida
Eva was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 1978; 2 sons, Walter and Edward Jr.;
4 sisters and 1 brother; and 1 grandson Marc Mumy.
Van Kuren, Norman D.
August 15, 1926 - January 5, 2001
Norman D. Van Kuren, 74, of Mt. Pleasant died on Friday, January 5, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services for Norman will be held on Monday, January 8th at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel. Pastor Terry Nordheim of Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate.
Interment will take place at the Union cemetery in Fremont Township, Isabella County.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, January 7th from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. as well as on Monday, January 8th from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in memory of Norman may consider the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Norman was born on August 15, 1926, the son of Viburt and Edna Mae (Schurr) Van Kuren. He was a business owner, having owned two bars, Kelly’s and Harold’s, and a gas station. Norman retired in 1981. Norman was married
to Mary “Jean” (Guibord) Van Kuren, who preceded him in death on July 11, 1999.
Norman is survived by his 2 daughters, Vickie (Kirt) Rathka and Sharon Southwick, both of Mt. Pleasant, and 3 grandchildren, Steven Allen Southwick, Jr., Gregory Dean Southwick, and Matthew David Southwick.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife and both parents.
Langlois, Sue Ann
April 13, 1947 - January 3, 2001
Sue Ann Langlois, 53, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died on Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral service for Sue Ann Langlois will be held on Saturday, January 6th, at 2 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel. Pastor Max Rauschenberger of the Isabella Baptist Church will officiate.
Interment will take place at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Sue Ann was born April 13, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Daniel Earnest and Margaret Vivian (Moore) Earnest. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in 1965. Sue Ann had worked at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility for 23 years and took early retirement in October of 1999. She enjoyed motorcycling and taking her dog Sidecar with her.
Sue Ann is survived by her husband, Michael D. Langlois of Mt. Pleasant; 2 daughters, Tammy Ward and Curtis Hall of Chesaning, Bethany Kappler and her husband Larry of Shepherd; 1 son, David Langlois of Weidman; 5 grandchildren, Missie, Nikki, and Mathew Mead, Larry and Joseph Kappler; her mother Margaret Vivian Earnest and mother-in-law Beverly Ann Langlois, both of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Eva Findley (Roy) of Harrison, Peggy Wixson (John) and Bonnie Blackmer (Benjamin), both of Lake.
Sue Ann was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Earnest, 2 nieces, Peggy Cotter and Janet Lewis, and one nephew, Allen Blackmer.
Bergeson, Alice Marie
January 13, 1940 - January 1, 2001
Alice Marie Bergeson, died at age 60 at her home. She had been battling thyroid cancer since 1987. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in her name may be given to Hospice of Central Michigan, 401 S. Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 48858. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.
Alice was born January 13, 1940, the fifth daughter of the Reverend Paul E. Schauer and Elsie Fischer Schauer. Alice lived in DeKalb through the school years and graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois in 1961. She married
John Bergeson of Sycamore, Illinois that same year. He survives her. She is also survived by one son, John and his wife Sharon of Phoenix, AZ and Baeumont, Texas and one daughter, Kristin Bergeson of Indianapolis, Indiana and her husband James R. Haines. Nine brothers and sisters also survive: Grace Palmer of Ft. Worth, Texas, Joann (Robert) Schmeling of Escanaba, Michigan, Natalie Reinertsen (Norman) of Elmhurst, Illinois, Lois Abel (Joseph) of Glen Ellyn, IL, Rachel Birchard (Kendon) of Deerfield, IL, Ruth Ormsbee of New Bern, North Carolina, Paul Schauer (Cyndy) of Littleton, Colorado, Peter Schauer (Lynn) of Boonville, Missouri, and John Schauer (Brenda) of Olathe, Kansas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Alice taught elementary school in Geneva, Illinois before moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1966. In 1970 the family moved to the central Michigan area, eventually settling near Remus. She was a substitute teacher in the Mt. Pleasant Schools as well as participating in many volunteer activities, having a Cub Scout troop and a Girl Scout troop. She also served on the Red Cross Board of Directors as president and was a blood donor before her illness. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Federated Garden Club and served as president of that group also. She also worked on United Way campaigns. In 1977 Alice earned her private pilot’s license and was a lifetime member of the Antique Airplane Assoc. and the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. In recent years she and her husband edited and published aviation newsletters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Roland B. Ormsbee, M.D., a niece Carol Palmer, and brother-in-law Major Carl J. Palmer USA Ret.
Bragg, Winona (Oren)
February 26, 1921 - January 1, 2001
Winona Bragg, 79, died Monday, January 1, 2001 at Tendercare in Mt. Pleasant.
Winona was born February 26, 1921, in Elsie, Michigan, the daughter of Glen and Ruth (Bates) Oren. She graduated from Shepherd High School in 1938 and from Central Michigan University in 1942. She served in the SPARS (Coast Guard) for over three years, reaching the rank of Ensign upon discharge from the service. Winona helped her father in the operation of the Glen Oren Stores in Mt. Pleasant.
Winona married
Shirley Bragg on December 3, 1948. She is survived by 5 daughters, Anita (Chuch) Bouth, Charlet (Ron) Sanders, Denise (Pete) Cotter, Evon (Scott) Peters, Elesa (Bob) Ball; 13 grandchildren; and 1 brother Newell (Lois) Oren of Shepherd.
After her father’s death, she and her brother Newell remodeled the store and had a successful business. When the store closed in 1977, she and her husband Shirley opened their own business, which is still in operation.
Winona was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Historical Society, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Button Club, DAR, and the Michigan Retailers Association. She enjoyed collecting buttons and antique books.
Services will be held at Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 5th, at 11 a.m., with Revs. Benton Heisler and Mark Erbes officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday January 4, 2001 from 2-5 and 7-9p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in the Veterans Garden of Memorial Gardens cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Burch, Joseph "Joe" Michael
November 25, 1940 - March 27, 2001
Joseph Michael Burch, 60, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his residence in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Funeral Mass for Joseph Burch will be held on Thursday, March 29th, at 11 a.m. fromSt. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rosebush. Father Jeffrey Donner and Sister Mary Ellen McDonald will co-officiate with interment to take place at St. Henry’s Catholic cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 28th, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. A vigil service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel. Joe was born November 25, 1940, in Delwin, Michigan to Frederick and Mary (Lane) Burch. Joseph worked as an independent truck driver and an owner operator. He also drove for the construction business for 27 years.
Joe is survived by his children, Jack Burch (Marsha) of Mt. Pleasant, Joseph Burch II (Sheila) of Rosebush, and Delbert Burch of Mt. Pleasant, his five grandchildren; Heather, Brett, Dustin, Joe III, and Jennifer, his brothers; Pat Burch (Dorothy) of Coleman, Jim Burch (Maxine) of Midland, Ken Burch (Joan) of Mt. Pleasant, and his sisters; Mary Sharp, Julia Hovey, Rosie Sponseller (Lee), and Florence Schultz of Mt. Pleasant, Bonnie Mogg (Murray), Helen Horan and Donna Lynch (Terry) of Rosebush, and Suzann Moeggenberg (George) of Ft. Myers, Florida.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters; Lucille Mogg, Martha Prout, Irene Evans and two infant siblings.
McElhaney, Charles Joseph
August 28, 1922 - March 20, 2001
Charles Joseph McElhaney, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
A funeral mass for Charles will be held on Saturday, March 24th, at 11 a.m. from
St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rosebush. Father Jeffrey Donner and Sister Mary Ellen McDonald will co-officiate with interment to take place at St. Henry’s Catholic cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 23rd, from 7-9 p.m. There will be a prayer service Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Charles McElhaney. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Charles was born August 28, 1922, in Isabella County to John and Catherine (Mitchell) McElhaney. Charles married
Dorothy (Prell) McElhaney November 27, 1983. She preceded him in death on April 8, 1995. Charles worked as a contractor and also drove truck for many years. Charles was also a volunteer at the Mt. Pleasant Soup Kitchen and enjoyed going there for meals.
Charles is survived by his step-sons, Kevin Prell and Tom Demoines of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Margaret Boese of South Dakota; a special friend, June Davis of Mt. Pleasant; a God-daughter, Dawn Ash of Mt. Pleasant and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Charles also is survived by his special pets, Mindy and Peggy Sue.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and five sisters, Mary Ellen Faber, Catherine LeRoy, Isabella Thomas, Cecilia Bailey and Loretta Woodin.
Heinlein, William Reading
May 6, 1929 - March 16, 2001
William Reading Heinlein, 71, of Winn passed away on Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Tender Care Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Funeral services for William will be held on Monday, March 19th, at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton will officiate with interment to take place in Union cemetery, Isabella Co., Michigan.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Saturday, March 17th and Sunday, March 18th from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Bill was born May 6, 1929, in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio, the son of Lemuel McKinley Heinlein and Phyllis Rosalee (Spurrier) Heinlein. Bill worked as a meat cutter at the Winn Market. He also had worked as a truck driver for Tice Beverage. Bill enjoyed gardening and caring for his flower beds.
Bill is survived by his children, Dianna (Dale) Webster of Shepherd, Michigan, and Dennis Heinlein of Bay City, Michigan; five grandchildren, Greg, Gina, Lucy, Lacy and Daniel; six great-grandchildren, Phillip, Jamie, Gabrielle, Cody, Brea and Bailey; five sisters, Betty Poling of Lancaster, Ohio, Marjorie (Donald) Dickey of Clare, Michigan, Joann Bellinger of Mt. Pleasant, Carol (David) Browne of Mt. Pleasant and Sandra (Robert) Shufelt of Shepherd, Michigan; and one brother, Robert (Barbara) Heinlein of Mt. Pleasant.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Phillip Heinlein, two brothers, Ralph and James, and one sister, Janet Heinlein.
Willis, Gary Lee
May 25, 1950 - March 9, 2001
Gary Lee Willis, 50, of Charlevoix died on Friday, March 9, 2001, in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services for Gary will be held on Monday, March 12th, at 1 p.m. from the Greensky Hill United Methodist Church in Petoskey, with Geri Litchfield officiating. The family will receive friends at the Greensky Hill United Methodist Church on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.
Gary was born on May 25, 1950, in Bay City, the son of Homer and Nelle (Ashmun) Willis. Gary had worked in the past as a crane operator. Gary was a member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians in Petoskey and the Green Sky Indian Mission.
Gary is survived by his mother Nelle Willis of Shepherd; his brother, Charles H. Willis of Mulliken, Michigan; his sister, Carole Tally of Shepherd; and his nieces and nephews, Vanessa Sprague, Alexandria Sprague, Olivia Sprague and Joshua Gloria.
Gary was preceded in death by his father Homer and a sister Linda Willis and a brother Larry Willis.
Gary was proud of his Native American Heritage. He was glad that he had the opportunity to take his farewell trip west.
He has now left the physical world and will now join his ancestors in the spiritual world.
DuCharme, Jeffrey J.
May 7, 1961 - March 8, 2001
Jeffrey John DuCharme, 39, of Mt. Pleasant died on Thursday, March 8, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan.
A Funeral Mass for Jeffrey J. DuCharme will be held on Monday, March 12th, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary’s University Parish in Mt. Pleasant, with Fr. Jeffrey Donner officiating. Interment will take place in Memorial Gardens cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, March 11th, from 12-3 and 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The DuCharme Children’s Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Jeffrey John DuCharme was born on May 7, 1961, in Detroit, the son of Robert J. DuCharme and Helene C. (Goettler) DuCharme. He married
Lisa D. Dallman June 9, 1984, in Plymouth, Michigan. Jeffrey served in the United States Air Force from 1983-1988 and was a member of the National Guard through 2000. Jeffrey graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Business Degree. He worked as a cellular site manager for LCC International for the past year. Prior to that, he had worked for GTE from 1988-2000. He was a member of the General Agency Hockey League. He served as a coach for the City Soccer League and as a Tee Ball assistant coach.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Lisa DuCharme and his children, Joseph Lawrence, Danielle Diane, and Samantha Mae DuCharme, all of Mt. Pleasant; his parents, Robert and Helene DuCharme of Canton, Michigan; his parents-in-law Diane and Gary Shockey of Plymouth, Michigan and Lawrence and Betty Dallman of Kingston, Massachusetts; his brother Michael (Kathleen) DuCharme of Kent, Washington; and his sisters Margot (Tom) Washington of Bellevue, Washington and Sally (Jim) Mitchell of Canton, Michigan.
