Pearl Larson
KINGSFORD - Pearl Elizabeth Larson, 79, of Kingsford died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the Freeman Nursing Home following a short illness.
She was born Oct. 24, 1925, the daughter of the late Richard and Lizzy (Anderson) Larson of Homestead. Ms. Larson worked in Chicago for many years at the Hartford Insurance Co. before coming to live with her sister and husband, June and Martin Henkel at 116 Birch St. She enjoyed playing the piano and corresponding with her many friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Ms. Larson is survived by one sister, June (Martin) Henkel and one brother, Jack Larson of Kingsford. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her six brothers, Samuel, Lawrence, Lloyd, Danny, Kenneth and Glen.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford. Gaylen Van Loon and Perry Pearson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Allen Fagan
IRON MOUNTAIN - Allen R. Fagan, 77, of 1601 Parkview Dr., Iron Mountain, died, Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at his home.
Allen was born April 20, 1928, in Bay City, lower Michigan, and was a 1946 graduate of Bay City Central High School. He was the son of the late Philip and Lillian (Nathenson) Fagan. Allen served during the Korean War with the 101st Army Airborne.
He married
the former Ellen M. Cohodes on March 27, 1954, in Iron Mountain.
Allen worked in construction in Bay City and locally for many years with Cohodes Oil Co. He eventually retired as an agent for Metropolitan Insurance.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Chippewa Club. He was a past member of Pine Grove Country Club, the Iron Mountain Rotary Club, the Iron Mountain Elks Lodge and the Iron Mountain City Council. He was a past board member of the Northpointe Behavioral Healthcare System, Family Independence Agency and Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.
Allen was an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was a life member of the Masonic Temple Association of Iron Mountain, the Crystal Falls-Iron River Masonic Lodge (Past Worshipful Master), the Ahmed Temple of Marquette, the Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Allen is survived by his wife, Ellen; his son, Mark (Lori) Fagan of Aurora, Colo and daughter, Julie (Steve) Whayne of West Chester, Ohio; two sisters, Janet (Morrie) Schindler of Huntsville, Ala. and Helen (Jack) Maltz of Detroit; five granddaughters, Chelsea, Elise, and Talia Fagan and Jessica and Abby Whayne.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Fagan.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. The Crystal Falls-Iron River Masonic Lodge will conduct memorial services at 3:45 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Dr. Michael Zevitz will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park immediately following the memorial service.

Charles Larson
KINGSFORD - Charles Edward Larson, 85, of Kingsford, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at the Jacobetti Veteran's Home in Marquette.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1919, the son of the late Axel and Melva Larson.
Mr. Larson worked at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain and as a crossing guard.
He married
Theresa Fillion and she preceded him in death in 1976.
Charles is survived by two sons, Mike Larson of Iron Mountain and Gary (Opal) Larson of Georgia; one daughter, Carol Larson of Kingsford; four grandchildren, Angie of Kingsford, John of Kingsford, Ashley of Iron Mountain, and Amy of Ypsilanti, lower Michigan; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Brice, and Cassandra.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Bernadine Spies and Linda Larson and one grandson, Keith.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Mueller officiating.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Fern Isaacson
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Fern Colet Isaacson, 74, of White Birch Village, formerly of Felch, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born April 2, 1931, in Felch, the daughter of the late Emil and Mary (Johnson) Isaacson.
Fern worked as a teacher-'s aide and bus driver with handicapped children for the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District for many years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.
She is survived by two brothers, Glenn (Elsie) of Livonia, lower Michigan and Alvin of Milwaukee; four sisters, Jeannette (Orin) Thykeson of Vancouver, Wash., Clarine Bergeman of Milwaukee, Virginia Vick of Hales Corners, Wis. and Betty Lou Johnson of Seattle; one sister-in-law, Norma Isaacson of Iron Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Leander, Mervin, Arnold and Clemence and a sister, Eleanor.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. William Jacobson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.

Dorine Poikonen
IRON MOUNTAIN - Dorine M. Poikonen, 86, of Iron Mountain, formerly of 317 Dickinson Blvd., Kingsford entered into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain in the presence of her children.
Mom was born in Wallace on March 10, 1919, daughter of the late Emil and Olga (Johnson) Newlin. She spent her growing up years in Wallace along with her brothers and a sister and many close relatives in the vicinity. Mom's home always was full of fun, family, lot's of Christian principles and love for music. There she acquired the talent of playing the piano and later the organ. She loved to also sing, especially songs of faith.
Dorine graduated from high school in Wallace and later began to work as a maid for the Hamilton family. A while later, she was introduced to Rudy Freeman of Iron Mountain at a local Bible camp, and soon after they were married
on August 23, 1940. Mom and Dad made their home in Iron Mountain, where their family started to grow. In 1951, the family relocated to Racine, Wis. for work but later, returned to Iron Mountain where they remained until Rudy passed away in 1978.
Mom spent several years alone living in Bob's White Birch Village when at church she met and married
Carl Poikonen. Mom always prided herself on her Swedish heritage and marrying a Finlander with such a wonderful sense of humor which yielded a home full of laughter and plenty of jokes. Carl passed away years later causing a move for Mom to Hulst Manor in Iron Mountain where she resided until one year ago after a fall, causing a move to Freeman's Convalescent Home.
She is survived by her oldest son, Marvin (Sandy) Freeman of Daltona, Fla., Sheldon (Linda) Freeman of Breitung Township, and Joyce (Mark) George of Grand Haven, lower Michigan. She also leaves her best friend and sister, Bernice (Newlin) Lundquist of Grand Haven, lower Michigan. Even though distance separated them, every weekend the phone lines burned hot with giggles and catch up news between the sisters and daughter, Joyce. Distance never became a barrier with Mom and her family. Mom was so proud of her six grandchildren, Chris (Brenda) Freeman of Mt. Pleasant, lower Michigan, Jason (Elesha) Freeman of Mt. Pleasant, Bonnie (Matt) Johnson of Kearns, Utah, Andrea George of Grand Haven, lower Michigan, Byron Freeman of Houghton, and Kevin Freeman of Kingsford. She also bragged on her five great-grandchildren, Josiah and Israel, Emma, Micah, and little Noah Freeman. Another precious bundle is coming real soon, baby Johnson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Rueben Newlin of Appleton and Rev. Roy Newlin of Iowa.
Mom was a member of the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain, where she was very active in choir and the Covenant Women's group for many years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Wheeler will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideon Bible organization.

Cindy Kirby
QUINNESEC - Cindy A. Kirby, 53, of Quinnesec, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at University Hospital in Madison, Wis.
Cindy was born July 13, 1951, in East Chicago, Ind., daughter of the late Alton and Margaret (Kuzma) Hanson.
Cindy was a resident of the area for more than 20 years, and was employed at ShopKo in Kingsford. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters.
She is survived by three sons, Steve Kirby of Caro, lower Michigan, Jeff Kirby of Las Vegas, Nev.., and John Kirby of Quinnesec; three granddaughters, Makayla, Savannah, and Alexis Kirby; two brothers, Eric Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Steven Hanson of California, and a sister, Kelly (Ross) Carlson.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
