Serafine Sparapani
IRON MOUNTAIN - Serafine Sparapani, 82, of N4582 Traders Mine Road in Iron Mountain, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his home.
He was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Iron Mountain, son of the late John and Maria Anna (Giolitto) Sparapani.
Mr. Sparapani was a lifelong resident of the area. He operated the family farm and a sawmill and he was also a logger.
Serafine was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Baraga Council and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He had also served as the Merriman Farm Union President and on the Breitung Township Board.
Serafine enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and working in his garage.
He married
Dorothy Scott on Oct. 23, 1943, at Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six children, Ervin (Carol) of Saginaw, lower Michigan, James (Jeanine Finley) of Kingsford, Gayle (Neal) Sparapani-Katz of Chicago, David (Judy) of Appleton, Wis., Sandra (Steve) Kmiec of Shephardsville, Ky. and Peggy (Terry) Ouradnik of Iron Mountain; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Julius, Ernest, Victor, and Joseph and six sisters, Perine Gilhuber, Ann Graff, Catherine Stadler, Elvera Sparapani, Rose Deldin, and Alice Sparapani.
Visitation will be tonight from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary tonight at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaszmarek will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
Serafine's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Gladys Kenny
HARDWOOD - Gladys Marie Kenny, 83, of Hardwood, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Dec. 17, 1920, in Hardwood, daughter of the late Thomas W. and Esther Mary (Charlevoix) Kenny.
She worked as a director and teacher of special education in the Menominee and Bay City schools retiring in 1970. Upon retirement, she returned to Hardwood.
Gladys is survived by two brothers, Dr. D.P. (Joan) Kenny of Highland, lower Michigan and Thomas J. Kenny of Foster City; a sister, Bernice LaLonde of Lombard, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Kenny and a sister, Frances Nylund.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Brenda Yuhasey
KINGSFORD - Brenda L. Yuhasey, 48, of 1601 West Sagola Ave., Kingsford, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls after an illness of the past seven months.
Brenda was born on Sept. 2. 1956, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of Valentine and CeCelia (Clements) Richtig. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Iron Mountain High School.
Brenda worked many years at area restaurants and owned and operated Brenda's Cafe in Iron Mountain. She most recently was employed as head cook at the Breen Center in Kingsford. She will be missed for her cheery disposition, generosity, kindness and genuine love for her friends and family.
She was an avid golfer, being a two time women's champion at Bomber's Golf Course. She also enjoyed fishing, her dog Bit-Bit and campfires with her neighbors and friends.
Survivors include her parents, a son, Daniel Yuhasey of Kingsford; her significant other, Don Wright; seven brothers and sisters, Gary (Jeannine) Richtig, Rena Richtig, John (Joanie) Richtig, Marie (Don) Gerred, David (Chris) Richtig, Pamela (Rev. Bill) Hohman, Jim (Lisa) Richtig, many nieces; nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Richtig.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers and Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
The Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Edna Yuhasey
IRON MOUNTAIN - Edna Victoria Yuhasey, 98, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born on Feb. 26, 1906, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late John and Linda (Carlson) Johnson. Edna has been a resident of Iron Mountain all of her life.
She married
William Yuhasey on Nov. 2, 1922. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1976.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Lydia Circle, and Dickinson County American Gold Star Mothers.
Edna is survived by two sons, Guy (Joyce) Yuhasey of Iron Mountain and Donald (Elaine) Yuhasey of Iron Mountain; grandsons, Thomas (Jodi) Yuhasey, David (Mary) Yuhasey of Iron Mountain and Tim (Michelle) Yuhasey; granddaughter, Susan (Robert) Constantini; five great-grandchildren, Scott (Carrie) Yuhasey, Evan Yuhasey, Daniel Yuhasey, Joshua Yuhasey and Bethany Yuhasey; a sister, Eleanor Schulich of Palantine, Ill., a sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Florence Villa Nursing Home and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrel, who died in World War II in the Phillipines on May 30, 1945; and four brothers, Einar, Elvin, Elwood, and Edward Johnson.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate.

Margaret Mortl
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Margaret Mortl, 94, of Hyland Nursing Home, formerly of Breitung Township, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Hyland Nursing Home.
She was born on Jan. 3, 1910, in Skone, Sweden, the daughter of the late Carl and Ellen (Anderson) Olson. Margaret came here from Sweden at the age of two. She lived in Niagara for 10 years before moving to Kingsford.
She married
Joseph Mortl on July 19, 1941, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Margaret worked for Confeld's Ladies Ready to Wear Store for many years and at Isabells until she retired. She was a volunteer at the Breen Senior Center, where she was named Volunteer of the Year. She was in charge of the pasty sale at the Breen Center every month. Margaret also volunteered at the blood bank, and worked at the gift shop at the hospital. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the GFWC Christian Women. She enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Joseph of Hyland Nursing Home; two sisters, Karla Evans of Hopkins, Minn. and Gladys Lucarelli of Kingsford. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Lee Liverance will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Leonard Lindeman
CHANNING - Leonard "Tony" Lindeman, 77, of 302 N. 6th St., Channing, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born May 9, 1927, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Alvin and Ida (Challancin) Lindeman. He graduated from Channing High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Tony married
Patricia Riley on March 29, 1949, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2003.
Tony was known as "Wappo" to his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp. He was an avid baseball player and as a young man, he was signed by the Red Sox and played in the minor league. Wappo enjoyed all sports and was a regular at all the grandchildren's sporting events. He had worked as an engineer for the Milwaukee Road Railroad for many years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Tony is survived by four sons, Craig (Joni) Lindeman of Holt, lower Michigan, Todd (Lynne) Lindeman of Channing, Dean Lindeman of Iron Mountain and Brian (Barb) Lindeman of Felch; a daughter, Michelle (Mike) Ferguson of Sagola; a sister, Charlotte Bloom of Channing; a brother, Warren (Betty) Lindeman of Green Bay, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Brent, Jeff, Liza, Chad, Ryan, Philip, Alex, Brandon, Blake, Linsey and Jared; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Alexis and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cynthia Lindeman.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
There will also be a visitation on Friday from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing. Funeral services will follow Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Fr. George Kuppayil offering the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Rod Bloom, Terry Lindeman, Brian Ouimette and Bob Miller.

Neil Verberg
AURORA, Wis. - Neil 'Pick' Verberg, 71, of Aurora, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born Feb. 19, 1933, in Milwaukee, son of the late Walter and Alice (Bourdeau) Verberg.
Mr. Verberg graduated from Kingsford High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Pick was a construction laborer for union Local 1329 of Iron Mountain.
He was very patriotic and was proud to be a member of the American Legion Post 136 of Niagara, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3635 of Florence and the 40et8 Voiture 659 of Iron Mountain. He was a very dedicated member of the American Legion and ran its raffle for many years.
Pick enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
He married
Irene Vivio on Jan. 17, 1959, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Rose (Roy) Allard of Kingsford and Mary (fiancee Mike Stec) Verberg of Goodman, Wis.; one sister, Elizabeth Courier of Elgin, Ill.; one granddaughter, Kimberly Allard of Kingsford; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Michael Betley will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Graveside military services will be accorded by American Legion Post 136 of Niagara.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Norman J. Karsten
IRON MOUNTAIN - Norman J. Karsten, 77, of 500 Norway St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1927, in Rogers City, lower Michigan, the son of the late Archie and Margaret (Schalk) Karsten.
Mr. Karsten served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He graduated from Michigan State University. He was a registered forester with the State of Michigan for 30 years.
Norman loved to go to camp 'scnapps Haus' to feed the deer and turkeys. He also enjoyed playing smear with his buddies, Donald Baravetto, James Pericolosi, and Jack Feira.
He married
Dolores Mochen on Dec. 10, 1960, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
Norman is survived by his wife, Dolores; four brothers, Marvin (Virg) of Rogers City, Robert (Lucille) of Alpena, lower Michigan, James (Geraldine) also of Alpena and Chester (Brenda) of Rogers City; four sisters, Lila (John) Burkness of Minnesota, Margaret (John) Carnali of Englewood, Fla., Nancy (James) Klingshirn of Rogers City and Jeanie (Richard) Warwick of Rogers City and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Staley.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in cemetery Park. Graveside Military rites will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50.
