Eddie V. Solomon

June 1, 1925 - Feb. 4, 2005

Eddie V. Solomon, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
A memorial service for Eddie will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. from Sowmick Senior Center.

Eddie was born June 1, 1925, in Delwin, the son of William and Susie (Peters) Solomon. He was a farmer and a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

Eddie is survived by his son, Lester Solomon; grandchild, Martin (Sarah) Curry; and great-grandchild, Gabriel Ivan Curry, all of Mt. Pleasant. Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean, and a brother, Abraham Solomon.

Harland M. Story

Sept. 18, 1924 - Feb. 5, 2005

Harland M. Story, 80, of Breckenridge, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Hearts Content Foster Care Facility of Breckenridge.
Funeral services for Mr. Story will be Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. from the Whiting Funeral Chapel of Breckenridge. Pastor Ed Kreh will officiate with burial in the Ridgelawn cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3 until 8 p.m.

Harland was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Wheeler Township, the son of William and Hattie (Meyers) Story. In August of 1942, he married Carice Hale. She preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1999. Mr. Story was a farmer all of his life.

He is survived by four children, Richard (Shirley) Story of Wheeler, Cathy Struble of Breckenridge, Terry (Avis) Story of Greenbush, and Tim (Cathy) Story of Wheeler; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ivan Story of Alpena, and one sister, Ilah Story of Breckenridge. Preceding him in death besides his wife and parents was one daughter, Irene.

Orvin C. Butcher

May 27, 1931 - Feb. 4, 2005

Orvin C. Butcher, 73, of Ashley, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Carson City Hospital in Carson City.
Funeral service will be held at the Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel on Monday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in North Star cemetery, North Star. Mr. Thomas Bradley will be officiating. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Orvin was born May 27, 1931, in Wheeler, son of Harry and Margaret (McCammon) Butcher. In 1958, Orvin moved to Ashley, where he resided most of his life.

He married Mary Ann Studt in Ashley on June 28, 1952. Orvin worked for Alma Piston Company for 19 years and retired from Gratiot County Road Commission after 26 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army and was wounded during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of VFW Post 7805 in Ithaca. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Orvin was a former fire chief of the Ashley Fire Department and was instrumental in getting the Ashley community an ambulance and rescue service in which he served as a member. He was a former councilman and village president of Ashley. Orvin was the grand marshal of the Ashley Centennial Celebration.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Butcher of Ashley; one daughter, Terry and Frank Sefl Jr. of Ashley; two sons, Bill Butcher and Connie Freed of Elwell and Jack Butcher of Kenyon, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a godchild, Stephanie Bancroft; and one sister, Margaret Richardson of Flint.

He was predeceased by his parents; one granddaughter, Shawna Marie; two sisters, Marian and Marie; and brothers, Junior, R.D., Gordon and Donald.

Caroline "Carrie" B. Clark

April 26, 1966 - Feb. 8, 2005

Caroline "Carrie" B. Clark, 38, of Weidman passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at her home.
Funeral services for Carrie will be held on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Craig Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery in Weidman. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 10, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weidman United Methodist Church, Community Cancer Services or Central Michigan Community Hospital Home Health Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Carrie was born April 26, 1966, in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of Don and Jane (Dewitt) Shenk. She graduated from high school and received her associate degree. Carrie married Jeff Clark in June 17, 2000. She was employed by Isabella Bank and Trust Weidman Branch, as a loan officer since 1996. Carrie was a very active member of Weidman United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, co-chair of the Sunday School Committee, Co-leader of Mountaineer 4-H and she served on Isabella County 4-H Counsel. She enjoyed crafts and gardening.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Jeff; children, Nicole and Corey; beloved pet, Blackie; mother, Jane Shenk; siblings, Les (Kari) Shenk and their children, Hailey and Ben of San Diego, CA and Lee (Angie) Shenk and their son, Chris of Denver, Colorado; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Lois Clark of Mt. Pleasant; grandparents, Ida Rounds of Illinois and Agnes Nicholson of Mt. Pleasant; brother and sisters-in-law, Greg "Archie" (Renee') Clark of Weidman, Sandy (Roger) Price of Shepherd, Debbie (Tom) Schepperly of Traverse City and Carrie (Dave) Smith of Mt. Pleasant and nieces and nephews, Amanda Clark, Ben Jones, T.J. and Joey Schepperly and Eddie and Nicki Smith. Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Don Shenk and grandparents, Claude and Barbara Dewitt and Evard Rounds.

Walter E. Duke

April 6, 1922 - Feb. 5, 2005

Walter E. "Gene" Duke of Ypsilanti, age 82, died Saturday, February 5, 2005. He was born April 6, 1922 in Flint, MI the son of Lloyd and Agnes (Jones) Duke. Gene married Evelyn (Drake) Duke in Indiana on Sept. 3, 1941. He owned and operated Duke Roofing Company and was a member of Phoenix F & A.M. Lodge #13 of Ypsilanti, James A. Cliff F & A.M. Lodge #424 of Weidman, the Lion's Club of Weidman, and Roofer's Union local #70. He also was a veteran of WW II having served in the U.S. Navy.
He is Survived by his wife Evelyn; one daughter, Mary Ann (Daniel) Wenger; fours sons, Dennis (Lynn), Roger (Marie), Randall, and Douglas (Jan); 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and two sisters, Lorena (Bud) Baker and Lola Fay (Edward) Tackabury. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter Paulette Louise.

The Family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Friday, February 11, 2005 from 2-5 p.m. at the Phoenix F & A.M. Lodge #13, 5752 Whittaker Rd., Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Memorials in honor of Gene may be made to Weidman Youth Alliance, 1133 Clubhouse Dr., Weidman, MI 48893. Robert A. Hill

Jan. 25, 1923 - Feb. 7, 2005

Robert A. Hill, age 82, of St. Louis, passed away Monday, February 7, 2005 at the Saginaw VA Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis United Methodist Church with Pastor Lillian French officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis United Methodist Church or the Charity of Choice.

Robert was born January 25, 1923 in Alma the son of Harry and Myrtle (Brooks) Hill. He served in the United States Navy during W.W.II and took part in capturing the only German submarine captured during the war. After his discharge he married Florence Plank on December 21, 1946.

Robert owned and operated Central Roofing since 1967. He was a lifetime member of the St. Louis VFW and also a member of the St. Louis United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Florence of St. Louis; two daughters, Marsha (Dennis) Macha of Muskegon and Kandyce (John) Johnson of Shepherd; three sons, Jeff (Barb) Hill of Alma, Brian Hill and friend Patty of St. Louis and Mark (Barb) Hill of St. Louis; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter; also one sister, Betty Lemon of Lansing; and three brothers, Ronald (Mara Beth) Hill of Gaylord, Carlyle "Junior" (Mary Lou) Hill of Alma and Jerry (Linda) Hill of Winter Garden, FL.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Heidi Mepham; and two brothers, Virgil and John Hill

Lloyd Marcy

Sept. 15, 1924 - Feb. 6, 2005

Lloyd Marcy, age 80, of Alma, passed away at his home on Sun., Feb. 6, 2005. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the Dewey Funeral Home in Alma from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service for Lloyd will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Friedrick of the Alma United Methodist Church officiating.
Lloyd was born on September 15, 1924 in Elwell to Julius H. and Lucretia Morton Marcy. He graduated from Alma High School, and served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. On Oct. 22, 1948 he married Joyce G. Smith in Alma. He worked at Detroiter Mobil Homes as a maintenance man, and at Sealed Power Corporation until his retirement in 1988. Lloyd enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and watching sports on television. He especially liked spending time with his family, and will be greatly missed by them and his many friends.

Surviving Lloyd are his wife, Joyce; four daughters, Linda (John Burmeister) Kear of Grand Blanc, MI, Bobbie (Ray) Cell of Deerfield, IL, Susan (Joseph) Casado of Newtown, PA, Nancy (Robert) Rasinske of Lansing, MI; a son, Rodney (Amber) Marcy of St. Louis, Park, MN; eight grandchildren, Justin Kear, Jenna and Carley Casado, Jason, Zachary and Meagan Rasinske, and William and Jacob Marcy; and a sister, Dorothy Girvin of Sheridan, MI.

It is the family's desire that memorial contributions be made to Home Care Services/Gratiot Area Hospice, 300 E. Warwick Dr., Alma, MI 48801 or a charity of the donor's choice rather than sending flowers.

The family is being served by the Dewey Funeral Home of Alma.

Naomi Fetzner

Dec. 6, 1913-Feb. 8, 2005

Naomi Idaleen Fetzner, age 91, of Breckenridge, formerly of Alma, joined her parents John and Nettie Stedman and her son, Gary, in the land of the living, Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005. She and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fetzner will be Fri., Feb. 11, 2005 at 11:00 AM from the Eastminister Presbyterian Church. Elder Susan Loenshal will officiate with burial in the Woodard Lake cemetery, Ionia Co. Friends may call at the Whiting Funeral Chapel in Breckenridge Thursday from 3 until 8 PM. Memorials may be given to Gratiot Commission on Aging.

Naomi Idaleen was born Dec. 6, 1913 in Ionia County, Michigan, the daughter of John and Nettie (Snow) Stedman. On June 21, 1940 she married N. Victor Fetzner, a union lasting 64 years. Naomi was a teacher, retiring from the Alma School Systems, a past worthy matron of Eastern Stars, a life-time member of Good Sam RV Club, of which she and her husband were King and Queen of 1989 State Samboree, and a charter member of the Eastminister Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her time working with the 29ers, Knitting and sewing, listening to and participating in many musical experiences, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving besides her husband Vic are 4 children; Margaret (Ronald) Fowler of Westphalia, Vicki (Doug) Aldrich of Wheeler, John (Katrinki) Fetzner of Mt. Pleasant, and Rex (Terri) Fetzner of Conneticut. Daughter in law Norma Henderleider of Alma, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a brother, Leslie (Phyllis) Stedman of Ionia. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Fetzner.

Cesere, Joseph L.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Tuesday morning November 2, 2004 at his home. Age 88 years. Joseph L. Cesere was born on June 15, 1916 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Leo and Anna (Delesio) Cesere. He married Adelina Calvinisti on February 21, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. She survives him. Joe had been employed by Dodge City Lumber Company for ten years. He also worked for General Motors retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Joe loved the outdoors and riding his motorcycle with his wife. Surviving besides his wife Adelina are two nephews and a niece; Peter J. (Pat) Cesere of Williamsburg, MI; Leo A. (Ann) Cesere of Frankenmuth, MI; and Marianne (Jack) Paquette of Saginaw. Also surviving are many great-nieces, great-nephews and special friends. Joe was preceded in death by a brother Peter L. Cesere and a nephew Robert L. Cesere.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 5, 2004 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd. Rev. Loren M. Kalinowski will officiate with burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Military services conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post # 439. passed away Friday December 3, 2004 at his home. Age 76. Milan J. Cittel was born March 17, 1928 in Saginaw to the late Milan and Ann (Riley) Cittel. He married Patricia L. Bertram June 11,1949 in Saginaw at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She survives him. He had been employed by Jones Transfer Co. He was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was a volunteer fireman for Bridgeport Township for 35 years. Surviving besides his wife, Patricia are three sons and one daughter. Jim (Mary) Cittel, Bridgeport. Janis (Mike) Rump, Saginaw, Brad Cittel, Bridgeport, Mark (Stephanie) Cittel, Saginaw. Five grandchildren, Tyler Rump, Bradley and Derek Cittel, Kaylee and Paige Cittel. passed away on Friday, November 26, 2004 at Luther Manor Nursing Home. Age 90 years. Virginia Marie Hemmingway was born on August 13, 1914 in Auburn to the late Jay and Helena (Foster) Hemmingway. She married Gottfried Foss on June 9, 1935. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1995. Virginia had been employed as a teacher and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Surviving are one son and one daughter, Victor (Carol) Foss, Saginaw; Jeanine Westendorf, Saginaw; three grandchildren, Melanie (Mark) Stoetzer, Amy (David) Miller and Mitchell (Shannon) Foss; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Clinton Hemmingway and one sister, Mildred Scranton. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, James Hemmingway.

Funeral Service will take place on Monday, November 29, 2004 at a place to be announced later. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Mausoleum. Gonzalez, Manuela A.

Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister went to be with our Lord on Sunday morning November 28, 2004. She passed away at St. Francis Nursing Home surrounded by her family. Age 91 years. Manuela Almaguer was born March 8, 1913 in San Isidro, Nuevo Leon, Mexico the daughter of the late Tranquilino and Francisca Almaguer. She was married to Jose Maria Gonzalez on October 3, 1928 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw. He predeceased her on October 27, 1976. Manuela was a homemaker caring for her family. She was previously employed at St. Francis Home when it was located on Janes St., where she cared for the elderly. Manuela also would visit with the sick at various hospitals. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years as well as The Cursillo, Damas De Guadalupe, and the Charismatic Prayer Group.

Surviving are eight sons and three daughters, Benjamin of Saginaw, Frank (Helen) of Bay City, Sister Dorena, O.P. of Saginaw, Louis (Sharon) of Tenn., Alicia Robison of Saginaw, Benny (Linda) of Florida, Rafael of Saginaw, Ramiro (Nancy) of Saginaw, Raul (Herminia) of Flint, Maria Elena (Tony) Moreno of Saginaw, Jesse (Susie) of Ohio. Two special people in her life, Lucy Craig and Delphine Nowak and many other special loved ones. She also leaves 40 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren, brother, Eusebio Cantu, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Jose Gonzalez, two brothers, Trinidad and Pablo Esquibel, and two grandsons, Rafael and Stephen Gonzalez.

Mass of Christian burial will take place 9:00 am Saturday, December 4, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. Sixth St. Fr. Ray Trejo and Fr. Joseph Schabel will co-officiate with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet cemetery. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday and Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Manuela will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Hausbeck, Gerald G.

Gerald Gilbert Hausbeck, beloved husband, brother and uncle passed away Saturday, November 27, 2004 at the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home. The son of the late Charles and Rose (Altscheffel) Hausbeck, Gerald was born August 8,1917 in Saginaw. He married Virginia Bernadene Sommers on October 20, 1956 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Gerald was part owner with his brothers of the Hausbeck Pickle Co. retiring in 1995. He enjoyed his years of working as well as traveling and being with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Bernadene and brothers, Richard and his wife Kay and John W. all of Saginaw; eighteen nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by sisters, Bernice and Joyce and one infant sister; brothers, Charles P., Ferdinand and two infant brothers, sisters-in-law, Betty, Vera, Marilyn, and one special niece Jane Anne Hausbeck.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3680 S. Washington Rd. Saginaw, Mich. Rev. Frank Voris, OFMCap will officiate. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home 2233 Hemmeter Rd. Jacques, DDS Kenneth A.

Thomas Township, Michigan

passed away Wednesday evening December 1, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family. Age 82 years. Kenneth A. Jacques was born on January 17, 1922 in Whittemore, Michigan to the late Henry and Anna (Hollister) Jacques. He married Doris M. Crampton on January 17, 1948 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
She survives him. Ken served with the US Army during WW II and in the Air Force during the Korean War as a Captain. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan Dental School in 1946 and practiced dentistry in Saginaw for over 43 years, retiring in 1989.
Ken was a life member of the Saginaw Valley District Dental Society, the Knights of Columbus #4232, Pulaski Club and was the past president of the Serra Club. Surviving besides his wife, Doris are two sons, Kenneth A. (Linda) Jacques Jr.; Jeffrey (Denise) Jacques; seven grandchildren, Julie (Brian) Anderson, Melissa (Kevin) Storey, Alicia (Steve Wendling) Jacques, Lisa (Shawn) McClure, Doug Steele, Nicole (Patrick Geary) Jacques and Nathan Jacques; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by three infant children, Mary Beth, Jonathan Francis and Julie Ann; two brothers, Henry and Edward Jacques and three sisters, Blanche Karr, Hazel Graham and Marion Hovis.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rev. David Parsch will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew cemetery. Klinefelt, Alice E.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Tuesday November 9, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Age 84 years. Alice Wrubel was born on February 5, 1920 in Bad Axe, Michigan. She married Arlen C. Klinefelt in 1940. He predeceased her in death on November 19, 1976. She was a member St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Surviving are four grandchildren; Jeff Sivak, Alicia Walkowski, Chris Sivak, and Robert Sivak all of Saginaw; six great-grandchildren; two sisters and a special nephew Dean Klinefelt. Alice was preceded in death by a son Jerry Klinefelt and a daughter Marsha Sivak.

Following Alice’s wish cremation has taken place. A committal service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2004 at Mt. Olivet cemetery. Fr. Leonard Stunek, OFM will officiate. Kruse, Charles A.

Saginaw, Michigan

passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper. Age 54 years. Charles Arnold Kruse was born on March 22, 1950 in Saginaw to the late Arnold and Yolanda (Wielock) Kruse. He was retired from the City of Saginaw as a Project Engineer. Charles was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he was active in several organizations. Surviving are an uncle, George Kruse; several cousins, Walter, Wayne, Robert, Richard, George and John Kruse. Charles was preceded in death by a brother Robert Kruse.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2004 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Robert Eggers will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Lemiesz, Jacqueline Mary
Saginaw Twp., Michigan

Jackie passed on to a more glorious life with our Lord. Her voice, so sweet in song was stilled December 4, 2004. She was born August 18, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan the second of nine children of John L. Coffey and Mary Ellen Brewer Coffey who preceded her as did a beloved brother, Patrick. Jackie graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1953 after serving as Class Secretary, Sodality Club, Altar Society, Cheerleader, and singing in both the Sacred Heart and St. Stephen's Choir. She went on to Bay City Junior College where she received a B.A. and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University in the field of Education. Jackie met her husband Frank Lemiesz while at Bay City Junior College and they married in January of 1956. Surviving besides her loving husband, Frank are one son and three daughters, Brian Franklin (LuAnn) Lemiesz, Saginaw; Kathleen Mary (Steven) Chism, Saginaw; Maureen Anne (James) Manning, Saginaw; Karyn Elizabeth (Steven) Dolphin, Wixom Lake, Mich.; five grandchildren, Matthew Scott, Andrew Patrick, Samantha Ryanne, Alexandria Anne and Brittany Elizabeth; four brothers and three sisters, Gerald (Theresa) Coffey, Michael (Sharon) Coffey, Robert (Patricia) Coffey, David (Debra) Coffey, Sharon Coffey, Margaret (Larry) Schmidt and Frances Alcock; two sisters-in-law, Carol (Coffey) Terry and Mary Ann (Beyer) Coffey. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Patrick C. Coffey.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Robert Konopa OFM will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew cemetery. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Wednesday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass. A personal tribute will take place at 10:15 a.m. just prior to the Mass. Those who so desire may make memorial contributions to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Link, John C.
Saginaw, Michigan

passed away Sunday morning, November 14, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper Campus. Age 83 years. John C. Link was born on March 8, 1921 in Sebewaing to the late Fredrick and Alma (Gerth) Link. He married Mary 'Jo' JoAnne Cummins on September 4, 1948 in Saginaw. She predeceased him on March 4, 1993. John was employed by Morley Brothers; and was a graduate from Arthur Hill High School. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II in the European Theater and in Africa. John was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion Post # 22, as well as the American Bowling Association. He was an avid golfer.

Surviving are two sons; John C. Link Jr. and his wife Phyllis Goldsmith, of Berkeley, California, James C. Link, of San Diego, California, two grandsons; Jesse & Eli Goldlink, Berkeley, California, one brother; Edward Link, of Saginaw, two sisters; Lorraine Knight, Tucson, Arizona, Marion Frost, of Saginaw, two sisters-in-law; Linda (Joe) Miller, of Saginaw, Jerry (Stan) Warzecha, Birch Run, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives who preceded John in death are two brothers; Walter and Fred Link, one sister; Vera Hammerschmidt, five brothers-in-law; Elmer Hammerschimdt, Allen Frost, Norman LaBelle, Eugene Knight, George Cummins, three sisters-in-law Ursula Link Dorothy Link and Shirley Griffus.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church; 5105 McCarty Rd. Rev. Mark Lindloff will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Russell J. Stanley

Nov. 18, 1926 - Feb. 2, 2005

The Reverend Russell J. Stanley, age 78, of Paris passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Spectrum Health East in Grand Rapids.
He was born November 18, 1926 in Barryton to Russell O. and Esther (Irwin) Stanley. Rev. Stanley graduated from Barryton High School in 1945. He married Audrey L. Merrihew on November 28, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Stanley worked for General Motors Buick Plant in Flint after high school graduation. In 1950 he began his course of study for the ministry for the Church of the Nazarene. He pastored nine churches on a bi-vocational basis for 40 years. Rev. Stanley retired to Paris over 15 years ago but stepped out of retirement to pastor two more churches. In addition to his ministry, Rev. Stanley and his wife Audrey owned and operated a carpentry and home decorating business for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Merrill (Delores) Stanley of Des Moines, Iowa and Paul (Nancy) Stanley of Coppell, Texas; two daughters, Andrea (Loyal) Nation of Paris and Joyce (Doran) Bittner of Paris; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Andy Stanley of Barryton; two sisters, Caroline (Adelbert) Pung of St. John's and Diana (Donald) Pung of Beal City; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Rev. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey on March 30, 2004; an infant son, Baby Alan Leigh Stanley in 1953; one brother, Donald Stanley; and one sister, Marion Moore.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Reed City Church of the Nazarene (515 West Lincoln) with Reverend Wayne Brown and Reverend Chris DeMott officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Vernon Township cemetery, south of Clare.

Visitation will be Friday (Today) form 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's request that memorial contributions in Rev. Russell Stanley's name be made to the Church of the Nazarene Home Mission and Church Planting.
