Bernice Sorensen
KINGSFORD - Bernice 'Bea' Sorensen, 83, of 228 Lyman St., Kingsford, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Springfield, Ohio, daughter of the late Robert and Geneva (Chapman) Atherton. Bea has been a resident of this area since 1948.
She married
Richard Coughlin in June of 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio and he preceded her in death in December 1943. She married
David Sorensen in 1948 and on Jan. 3, they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
Bea enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and knitting.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons, Robert (Kathy) Coughlin Sr. of Iron Mountain and Gordon (Paula) Sorensen of Norway; one daughter, Julaine (Dennis) Anderson of Kingsford; a daughter-in-law, Louanne Sorensen of Kingsford; 11 grandchildren, Robert (Kathy) Coughlin Jr., David (April) Coughlin, John Coughlin, James (Chris) Coughlin, Jennifer (Pat) Flynn, Heather Sorensen, Sara (Jason) Tregillis, Samuel Sorensen, and Benjamin, Adam, and Zachary Mitchell; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Philip Sorensen and a sister, Betty Beck.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home.
Memorial services will follow Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be at Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Thomas Haben
MINNEAPOLIS - Thomas M. Haben, 57, of Minneapolis, formerly of Iron Mountain, died, Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Tom was born on Feb. 25, 1947, in Hibbing, Minn., son of the late Wendell and Syrie (Juntenen) Haben. He moved to this area with his parents in 1958 and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1965. While in school, he was a good athlete and a great dancer.
He became a quadriplegic as a result of an automobile accident in the fall of 1965. He had lived in the Minneapolis area for the past 35 years. Tom worked for Congressman Jim Ramstad of Minneapolis as a spokesman for the disabled.
His greatest achievement was assisting in getting the public transportation system accessible to other disabled persons. He was also a counselor at the Courage Center and encouraged many disabled persons throughout the years.
Tom loved listening to music and watching sports events with his friends.
He is survived by two sisters, Jerri Sanders of Iron Mountain and Kathy (Fred) Kurszewski of Menominee Falls, Wis.; five nieces and nephews, Scott Sanders, Tim Larsen, Tami Kopplin, Marcy Kraft and David Haben; two grandnephews, Brian Nord and Cole Kraft and three grand nieces, Grace and Hannah Kopplin and Kaitlin Kraft.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Haben.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m.Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Anderson officiating.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Bay Cliff Health Camp.

Elizabeth Feak
SAGOLA - Elizabeth 'Betty' Feak, 78, of Sagola died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at her home with her loving family at her side and under the care of MGH Hospice following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1926, in Baxter, Tenn., the daughter of the late James and Bonnie (Nunally) Bain. Betty graduated from Baxter High School in 1943 and moved to Chicago where she met and married
Louis 'Loren' Feak on Nov. 11, 1950.
In 1966, they relocated to Channing and then Sagola. Betty worked as a nurse's aide at Americana (ManorCare) in the late 1980s. She was a former EMT with STAR Ambulance of Sagola Township and on the civic committee. Betty was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church serving as elder and deacon, member of Presbyterian Women, and sang in the church choir for over 40 years.
She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and church family were her life. Betty loved music, her voice was sent from heaven to bring us all joy! She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include her husband, Loren of 53 years; three daughters, Connie (Mike) Kuzak of Marquette, Teri (Bob) Berg of Channing, and Donna (Mike) Cline of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Louis 'Butch' Feak of Sagola with special friend, Jean Takala; three sisters, Mary Nell Bain of Baxter, Tenn., Ruth Wooten and Phyllis Hawkins, both of Gainesboro, Tenn.; two brothers, James (Reba) Bain and Frank Bain, both of Baxter, Tenn.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her sister, Pearl York and her brother, William Bain preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. to the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Grace Presbyterian Church building fund or to the donor's choice.

Leslie Brockington
IRON MOUNTAIN - Leslie T. Brockington, 85, of W8061 Old Carney Lake Road, Iron Mountain, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Gordon and Emily (Mathews) Brockington and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He served during in World War II with the U.S. Army.
Leslie married
the former Doris LeSelle on June 21, 1941. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; four sons, Gary Brockington and Randall (Sandra) Brockington, both of Howard, Wis., Daniel (Debra) Brockington of Waukesha, Wis. and Richard (Kathleen) Brockington of Southlake, Texas; six grandchildren, Tracy (Brian) Strength, Tiffany Brockington, Robert (Tamara) Brockington, Melissa (Kevin) Kampmann, and Tony and Nathan Brockington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Clyde, Gordon, and Marshall and a sister, LaVerne Machajewski.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Fr. Paul Nomellini officiated.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
A memorial will be established in his memory.

Oliver E. Holmberg
COMMONWEALTH, Wis. - Oliver E. Holmberg, 91, of Commonwealth, Wis., died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at the Florence Villa Nursing Home.
He was born on March 2, 1913, in Homestead, Wis., the son of the late Gustave and Amanda (Johnson) Holmberg.
He married
June Fraker on April 3, 1939. She preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 2002. He was a life long resident of the area.
Oliver is survived by two sons, Delore (Penny) Holmberg and Terry (Jeanne) Holmberg, all of Commonwealth; one sister, Judith Moore; four grandchildren, David (Sandy) Holmberg, Darren (Pam) Holmberg, Daniel Holmberg (Rhonda Rochon) and Michelle Holmberg; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Haley, Kyle, and Christopher Holmberg.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Private family services will be held.

Robert Larson
KINGSFORD - Robert Larson, 57, of 412 Hooper St., Kingsford, died, Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Florence Villa Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Bob was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Iron Mountain and been a lifelong resident of this area. Bob worked as a pulp cutter in the forests of the Upper Peninsula and Northeastern Wisconsin for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy days hiking, hunting, and berry picking in the surrounding area. He will be fondly remembered as a gentle man who led a life of quiet simplicity and his family will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Larson of Kingsford; five brothers and sisters, Janet Schuirmann of Iron Mountain, Christine Larson of Iron Mountain, Dale Larson of Kingsford, Bernard (Mary Jean) Larson of Kingsford and Kenneth Larson of San Diego, Calif. and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Allan.
A memorial service will held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Nelson Evans
IRON MOUNTAIN - Nelson T. Evans, 48, of Woodbury, Tenn., formerly of this area, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, in Nashville, Tenn.
Nelson is survived by his mother, Beverly Hannula of Breitung Township; a brother, Steven (Roberta) Evans of Monteal, Wis.; two nieces and one nephew; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald Hannula.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsford. Rev. David Wilton will officiate.

William Plante
IRON MOUNTAIN - William K. Plante, 74, of 1300 Michigan Ave., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born June 4, 1930, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Arthur and Clara (Struebling) Plante.
He was a lifelong resident of the area, living in Norway for more than 20 years, moving back to Iron Mountain in 1997. Bill is a graduate of Kingsford High School. He served with the Navy during the Korean War.
Bill married
Catherine (Blackhall) Oliver on Nov. 11, 1967. He owned and operated The Red Carpet Beauty Salon. He loved gardening, crafts, and woodworking, and was an avid skier and card player.
Bill is survived by his wife, Catherine; seven children, William 'BJ' (Trisha) Plante of Norway, Jennifer (Doug) Cady of Lewiston, lower Michigan, Elizabeth (Scott) Reath of Vulcan, James (Mary Jane) Oliver of Clinton, Okla., Barbara Oliver of Gwinn, Linda (Mark) Petrick of Rowlett, Texas and Mary (Al) Armstrong of Soldier Creek, Okla.; brothers, Arthur (Grace) Plante Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Howard (Mary) Plante of Kingsford, and Terry Plante of Green Valley, Ariz.; a sister, Marion 'Dolly' (Don) LeClair of Norway; his paternal aunt, Rose Jamrock of DesPlaines, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Beauparlant and Doris Eyers and three brothers, Don, Eugene and Leo Plante.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
