Arthur Peterson
NORWAY - Arthur Morris Peterson, 75, of Norway, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Norway, son of the late Arthur and Myrtle (LaCrosse) Peterson.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later worked for Meijers in Grand Rapids where he met his wife, Mayme McGraw. They were married
on Feb. 17, 1962, in Warren, lower Michigan.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He never knew a stranger and always had a joke and a laugh for everyone. He enjoyed working at the skating rink in Norway and many times shared his lunch with the kids. Morry, as he was called, had many special friends and relatives and will be sadly missed by many. He fought a good fight to the end. And so it is wished, a very good journey to a very special husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will not be forgotten.
Morry is survived by his wife, Mayme Peterson and his children from a previous marriage, Richard of Detroit, Susan Taylor of Wisconsin, Johnny (Kyle) of Virginia, Cindy (Terry) Sorrell of Dearborn, lower Michigan and David of Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Peterson Mott of Norway and Elaine Boyd Squires of Gladwin, lower Michigan; a brother, Herbert (Betty) Boyd of Moreno Valley, Calif.; and nephews and nieces, Arty and Teddy Mott, Tom, Valley and Susan Boyd, Kathy Squires Jones and Pearl Squires Carr.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Edward, Jack and Steven Boyd and Gwenevere.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m at the church. The Rev. John Voelker will officiate.

DeWayne Carlson
FOSTER CITY - DeWayne 'Dewey' Carlson, 52, of Foster City, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at home with his family at his side.
He was born Oct. 14, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie, son of Howard and Alice (Stenfors) Carlson. Dewey moved to Foster City with his family at a very young age and had been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Felch High School in 1969.
Dewey married
Rita Gustafson on Nov. 13, 1971 at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. He and Rita owned and operated Carlson's Service and Towing in Foster City for the past 21 years.
He was very community minded and was a member of the Breen Township Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, serving as fire chief for 15 years. He helped to organize the Breen Township Fun League and tri-township rescue van. Dewey also served on the Nordic Ambulance and the Dickinson County Sheriff's R300 rescue van. He was a member of the Fire Chief's Training Council, the National Rifleman's Association, the National Federation of Independent Business and the Michigan Retailers Association. Dewey had also served in the National Guard.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on his street rod and volunteering his time for the community. What he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and friends and especially his grandson, Alec.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; two children, Cheri (Rob) Challancin and their son, Alec of Felch and Dan Carlson of Iron Mountain; his parents, Howard and Alice Carlson of Foster City; six brothers and sisters, Rodney (Debbie) Carlson of Foster City, Faye (Gary) Johnson of Felch, Jim (Erin) Carlson of Foster City, Gary (Anna) Carlson of Foster City, Gail (Brad) Gustafson of Felch and Jeff (Lisa) Carlson of Norway. He is also survived by his business partner and friend, Russell (Jill) Steinbrecher of Felch and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Mission Covenant Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster City cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Breen Township Fire Department: Kris Steinbrecher, Bill Lucas, Kevin, Cary and Justin Massie, Scott Raether, and Curt Dixon. One honorary pallbearer will be Erin Raether.

August Heirman
AURORA, Wis. - August George Heirman, 95, formerly of Aurora and of Evergreen Assisted Living, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born on May 20, 1908, in Norway, son of the late Henry and Florentine (Gyselinck) Heirman.
He and his family moved to Chicago in 1916, and that was where he was raised. He married
Mary (Marie) Kuchan on Oct. 31, 1936, in Chicago, and she preceded him in death after 40 years of marriage.
August's jobs included driving movie stars around the city of Chicago, the Aragon Ballroom as a dance instructor, Mills Industries as a supervisor making airplane parts during World War II and at Victor Adding Machines as a supervisor, where he retired at the age of 63.
Upon retirement, he moved to Aurora and has lived there for 36 years. August enjoyed fishing and dancing. He was an avid Cubs fan and loved cars.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Pielach Cummings of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Susan P. (Robert) Bauske, Judy P. (Terrence) Taaffe and Stephen Pielach; five great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jazz Bauske, and Cayley, Conlon, and Luke Taaffe; a sister, Bernice Adams; a very special friend, Viola Christenson; and a special sister-in-law, Lenore Heirman.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, George, and Albert Heirman.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford.
The funeral service will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Duane Rochon
KINGSFORD - Duane J. Rochon, 60, of 750 Boyle Drive, Kingsford, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1944, in Escanaba, the son of Shirley (Balthazore) Rochon and the late Henry Rochon. He served in the U.S. Army.
Duane married
Judith Granlund on May 23, 1964, in Waukegan, Ill. They moved to this area in 1971 and have resided here since that time. Duane worked at Grede Foundry for 25 years.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, carpentry, and going on long rides with his family.
Duane is survived by his wife, Judy; his mother, Shirley Rochon of Pinecrest Medical Center; two sisters, Sharon (David) Conrad of Pittsbourough, Ind. and Rhonda Rochon (fiance, Dan Holmberg) of Iron Mountain, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Rochon; and a brother, Keith Rochon.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Bonnie West
VULCAN - Bonnie L. West, 60, of Vulcan, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on May 13, 1943, in Norway, the daughter of the late Anton and Irene (Smith) Bilski.
Bonnie has been a lifelong resident of the Vulcan-Norway area and she graduated from Vulcan High School in 1961. She then attended and graduated from cosmetology school in Green Bay.
Bonnie married
James Otto West Sr. on March 14, 1964, in Norway.
She owned and operated a beauty salon with her mother in Vulcan for many years. After her mother passed away several years ago, she did hair-care for shut-ins.
Bonnie enjoyed gardening and birds, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James; a son, James (Lori) West Jr. of Vulcan and a daughter, Brooke (John) Zanon of Vulcan; five grandchildren, Shelby and James West III, Brandon, Ashley and John Michael Zanon II.
There will be no services.

Bonnie West
VULCAN - Bonnie L. West, 60, of Vulcan, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Emma Luxmore
IRON MOUNTAIN - Emma 'Mae' Luxmore, 86, a former resident of Hulst Manor in Iron Mountain, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
Mae was born March 3, 1918, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Knight) Luxmore.
She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1937. Mae worked for Will's Jewelry Store, the sewing factory and General Controls. When General Controls moved away, she did house work for different people in the area.
Mae was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Elaine Luxmore of Kingsford; two nephews, Robert (Joni) Luxmore of Hudsonville, lower Michigan and Fred (Janet) Luxmore of South Carolina; a niece, Sharon Clarke (Tom) Sullivan of Arizona; a cousin, Jack (Betty) Hosking of Iron Mountain and Christine (Don) Sericati of Iron Mountain.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melbourne and H.J. Luxmore.
Private graveside services will be held at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Rosamond Dabb
IRON MOUNTAIN - Rosamond J. 'Rose' Dabb, 86, of Iron Mountain, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
Rose was born on Nov. 18, 1917, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Anna (Robbins) VanLaanen. She graduated magna cum laude from Iron Mountain High School in 1935.
Rose married
Albert J. Dabb on Sept. 20, 1941, in Iron Mountain, and he preceded her in death in 1986.
She worked for Michigan bell Telephone Co. as an operator for many years retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph
Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Rose loved going to the family camp on the Wells Grade Road. She was a avid Green Bay Packer and NASCAR fan. She especially loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by four sons, James (Sharon) of Sagola, Lawrence (Jeanette) of Spread Eagle, Wis., Robert 'Butch' (Kathleen) of Iron Mountain, and Richard 'Dick' (Gail) of Iron Mountain; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Kathy) Dabb of Ironwood, Kenneth (Geri Lynn) Dabb of Norway, Jeff (Tina) Dabb of Iron Mountain, Jodi Dabb of Grand Rapids, lower Michigan, Kurt (Sarah) Dabb of Tucson, Ariz., Kari Dabb of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Kory (Dawn) Dabb of Colorado Springs, Colo., Larry J. (Wendy) Dabb of Marion, Ind., Terry (friend, Heidi Wallace) Dabb of Manitowoc, Wis., and Sherry (Tom) Craig of Kaukauna, Wis.; 11 great-grandchildren, William, Heather, Brandon, Ryan, Nicolette, Jennifer, and MaKenna Dabb, Todd Edwards and Jamie, A.J. and Drew Craig; a brother, Ward 'Archie' (Elaine) VanLaanen of Lake Odessa, lower Michigan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Grace Wacker of Waterford, lower Michigan; sisters-in-law, Gloria VanLaanen and Beth 'Pudge' VanLaanen, both of Iron Mountain; a number of cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, John 'Jack', William, Alan 'Pete', Robert, and Larry and an infant brother, John Albert VanLaanen; and two sisters, Evelyn Colwell and an infant sister, Cecelia VanLaanen.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga and Rev. David Anderson will co-officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Northwoods AirLifeline.
