Lon Carr
KINGSFORD - Lon D. Carr, 81, of 401 Lyman St., Kingsford, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 25, 2003.
He was born Jan. 6, 1922 in Dallas, Wis., the son of the late Roscoe and Hattie (Blake) Carr. He moved to this area with his parents at an early age and has been a resident since that time. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1940. Lon was an Army veteran, serving in World War II.
He married
Adelaide 'Babe' Hankey on Aug. 22, 1942 in Chicago. He was the building construction superintendent for the Proksch Construction Company in Iron River for 27 years. He also worked for Dickinson Homes for 10 years after retiring from Proksch. Lon was an avid snowmobiler, hunter and loved spending the summer at camp. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Babe; his daughter, Lynn (Dale) LaVigne of Kingsford; his son, Lon Carr Jr. of Winter Park, Fla.; two grandchildren, Stacy Black of Apopka, Fla. and Andrea Carroll of Fayettesville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Dillion Black, Zane and Sarah Carroll; a sister, Cleo Acker of Silverton, Ore; a brother, Larry Carr of Daggett; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Pastor Lori Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in the Niagara cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

Michael Conery
KINGSFORD - Michael F. 'Bugs' Conery, 61, of 401 Hemlock St., Kingsford, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at his home.
Mike was born Sept. 7, 1941, in Sagola, son of the late Albert and Ruby (King) Conery. Mike was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He enlisted in the local National Guard for a six month training program graduating with high honors. He married
the former Kay Gedvick on Oct. 4, 1969. Mike worked for Smeester Brothers trucking for 32 years and retired as their dispatcher in 1999. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. Mike was a fun person to be around and enjoyed being around people. He loved his family dearly and loved to be with his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping with the family. He looked forward to his two weeks at hunting camp every year. He also enjoyed the winter months spent in Florida and golfing with his friends. He rarely missed a morning having breakfast with his friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Craig; a sister, Rita Hicks; and two brothers, Albert and Morris Conery.
He is survived by six children, Lori (Stephen) Carollo of Kingsford, Teri (George) Bolan of Kingsford, Kathy (Al) Shepherd of Green Bay, Wis., Janis (Mark) Steber of Florence, Wis., Kevin Conery of Menominee, and Brian Conery of Mayville, Wis.; 24 grandchildren, April and Brooke Mitchem, Matthew and Brittany Carollo, Ryan, Erin, Bryce, Amber, Andilee, Keefer, Courtney, Morgan, and Madison Conery, Rachael and Jessica LaFleur, Jennifer Swetlik, Jessica, Dale, Rachel and Trevor Shepherd, Rochelle, Nicholas, and Sutton Steber, and Tyler Mattson; one great grandchild, Blake Kosobucki; his sister, Beverly (Robert) Chartier of Kingsford; one brother, James (Peg) Conery of Port Washington, Wis.; and a special friend, Basil Smeester.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Saviours Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Pastor Lori Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Louis Orler, Stephen Carollo, George Bolan, Al Shepherd, Kevin Conery, Brian Conery, Ryan Conery, Keefer Conery, Bryce Conery, and Matthew Conery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Myron Fetterly, Roy LaVarnway, Joe Van Remoortere, Jr. Basil Smeester, Sr., Jerry Taff, and Rodney Gedvick.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation.

Marie Smith
AURORA - Marie K. Smith, 96, of Aurora, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
Marie was born Jan. 14, 1907, in Aurora, daughter of the late Ignatz and Katherine (Kaempher) Schnieder. She married
the late Herbert G, Smith in January, 1926. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1950. Together, they operated a dairy farm in Aurora for over 35 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Aurora. Marie was a excellent baker and she loved being with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Victor and Herbert Schnieder, Herbert Schwinn; and three sisters, Gretchen Strand, Elizabeth Mancell, and Henrietta Schaub.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Rosebud Sunich of Antioch, Ill., Marie (Dennis) Ahearn of Menominee and JoAnn (Ronald) Erickson of Spread Eagle, Wis.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Fr. Joseph Gouin officiating. Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Russell Scott
IRON MOUNTAIN - Russell 'Hap' Scott, 77, of 1100 Detroit Ave., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at his home following a short illness.
Hap was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Duluth, Minn., son of the late Russell W. and Margaret (Burns) Scott. He was raised in Wausau, Wis. and the family moved to Florence, Wis. in 1940. He graduated from Florence High School and attended Michigan Technological University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Hap married
Eileen Flatley on June 10, 1950, in Kenosha, Wis. He owned and operated Standard Service & Supply Co. with his brother, Jerry Scott and his father, the late Russell W. Scott, who founded the company in 1946. The company was sold to Michigan Air Gas in 1988.
He was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain and was a former member of Pine Grove Country Club, the Chippewa Club, the American Welding Society, Dickinson County Pilots Association and the Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club. He loved flying and was an experienced pilot for more than 35 years. He also enjoyed boating and traveling.
Hap was preceded in death by a daughter, Marrijane Romagnoli; a grandson, Thomas Reiten; and a brother, Jerold Scott.
Hap is survived by his wife, Eileen; four children, Russell 'Pat' (Sally) Scott of Merriman, Susan Reiten of Seattle, Wash., Tom (Kathleen) Scott of Glencoe, Ill. and Carol Scott of Schaumberg, Ill.; two sons-in-law, Steven Reiten and Dwight Romagnoli, both of Iron Mountain; two brothers-in-law, James Flatley of Coco Beach, Fla. and Thomas Flatley of Waupun, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Jean Scott of Spread Eagle, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Tom Scott Jr., Michael Scott, Leo Badish, George LaFave, Warren Brule and Tom Wittkopf Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Elliott, Louie Fontecchio, Bob Forgette, Dave Lemke, Don and Bob Schultz, Earl St. John, Ray Cerasoli, and Tom Wittkopf Sr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Edmond Paquin
VULCAN - Edmond Joseph Paquin Jr., 77, of Vulcan, and a former resident of Iron Mountain and Quinnesec, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 12, 1925, son of the late Edmond and Dora (Sparpani) Paquin. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served from Dec. 14, 1942 to Nov. 11, 1945, engaging in many naval battles. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Gunner's Mate Second Class. He married
Janet Turner on March 8, 1969, in Iron Mountain. Ed was co-owner and manager of Hosking Tire Company for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Green Bay Packer Fan. He loved his dogs and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Lee Paquin in 1947; and his beloved wife of 33 years, Janet.
Edmond is survived by two sons, Michael (Ruth) Paquin of Boise, Idaho and Patrick (Jean) Paquin of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Scott (Genie) Paquin, Andrea (Kenny) Evansen, Julie (Jay) Bazuzi, Danny Paquin, Catherine Paquin, Chad (Krissi) Randis, and Morgan (Kristy) Randis; nine great grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, and Aden Paquin, Anika Evansen, Reid Bazuzi, Maxwell Randis, and Jarret, McKenna and Kylie Randis.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. William Calliri will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

John Perry
IRON MOUNTAIN - John W. Perry, 65, husband of Celia M. Perry of 34 years, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He leaves three sons and a daughter, Thomas Perry, a dearly loved daughter-in-law, Tonja Perry, Michael K. Degenaer, Kenneth J. Degenaer, a dearly loved daughter-in-law, April Degenaer, and Laura Champane.
He also leaves his brother Robert (Janice) Perry; a loved sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Janice Tomasi.
He leaves his mother, Laura Perry and mother-in-law, Rose Lacni.
He leaves grandchildren, Ben and Erin Perry, Karisa Hemling, Justin and James Degenaer, April Clairmont, and a great grandchild, Kira.
He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, and the special co-workers he worked for at the Pines Home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard B. Perry, and his father-in-law, John Lacni, who spent many hours visiting with John.
John enjoyed creating dream catchers and medallions and listening to country and western music.
Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Joyce Vigo
KINGSFORD - Joyce Carol Vigo, 84, of Kingsford, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Freeman's Convalescent Home in Kingsford.
She was born Jan.10, 1919, in Goodman, Wis, , daughter of the late Alan and Eva (Tondreau) Johnson. Joyce was a lifelong resident of this area. Joyce married
Marvin Vigo Sr. on April 17, 1937, in Iron Mountain. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Joyce was a very loving mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life. She loved music and dancing and enjoyed crocheting and painting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Vigo Sr. on July 3, 2001; her son, Marvin Vigo Jr.; a grandson, Jason Maraccini; and five brothers, Erland, Stanley, Loren, Clarence, and Donald Johnson.
Joyce is survived by three daughters; Doreen (Raymond) Schultz of Niagara, Wis., Donna (Carl) Plonke of Niagara, Wis., and Eva Marie Vigo of Marquette; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Carol) Schultz, Lori (Kevin) Romitti, Craig (Christine) Schultz, Perry (Michelle) Plonke, Kim (Bob) Hostettler, Jeffrey (Jenny) Plonke, Tina (Daniel) Moyer, Lisa (Bill) Cody, Julie (William) Beyer, Amanda Vigo, and Mason Pearce Jr.; 24 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; Cleo Johnson, Willie Johnson and Cecelia Gigliotti; and two lifelong friends, Leona Hosking and Hazel Stachowicz.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Sarah Frankovich
IRON MOUNTAIN - Sarah B. Frankovich, 86, of Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Amasa, daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Besiak) Frankovich. She has been a lifelong resident of this area. Sarah worked for Paul Electric in Iron Mountain until her retirement. She was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church and volunteered at the Breen Senior Center for 25 years. She enjoyed needlepoint and babysitting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Joe, Andrew, Pete, Leo, and Lotti Frankovich, and two sisters, Sophie Frankovich and Catherine Turrini.
She is survived by her brother, Albino (Angie) Frankovich of West Allis, Wis; three sisters, Mary Filer of Chicago, Ill., Betty Shortinger of Stockton, Calif., and Frances Wirtz of West Allis, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Frankovich of East Kingsford; a special friend Joyce Posey of Kingsford, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory to American Martyrs Church or to the Charity of your choice.

Joseph Anderson
FINDLAY - Joseph O. Anderson, 76, of 853 Beech Ave., Findlay, lower Michigan, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 12, 2003, at the Birchaven Retirement Village.
He was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Iron Mountain, son of Joseph E. and Elizabeth Annie (Oliver) Anderson. He married
Freda B. Robinson on Jan. 26, 1952. Joe was a 1949 graduate of Ferris State University and was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Anderson retired as as accountant with Marathon Oil Co. in 1986. He was a member of the YMCA Men's Club and participated in various YMCA activities; member of BPOE #75, and of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and their Fisherman's Club. For many years, he was involved in, and at times organized, the local March of Dimes walk-a-thon.
He was preceded in death by a sister, June Hudson.
He is survived by his wife, Freda; a son, Scott J. (Adele) Anderson of Findlay; two daughters, Holly (Michael) Worrman and Brooke Arredondo, both of Findlay; a sister, Greta (Archie) Betti, of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Amy Stagnolia and Nick Arredondo; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Avery Stragnolia.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. Rev. Meredith Rupe will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
