Russell Walters
RALPH - Russell E. Walters, 68, of Ralph died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Russell was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Charlotte, lower Michigan, son of the late Roy E. and Emma Lou (Thorpe) Walters. He married the former Shirley A. Loper on June 20, 1954, in Hickory Corners, lower Michigan. The couple lived and farmed in Hickory Corners for more than 35 years before moving to Ralph in 1978. Russell loved to fix things and was an excellent handyman. He also enjoyed reading.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Steven; daughter, Mary; grandson, Joshua; brother, Carl, and sister, Charlotte.
Russell is survived by his wife, Shirley; four children, Judy (Sandy) Sanborn of Battle Creek, lower Michigan, Carl (Kathy) Walters of Kalamazoo, lower Michigan, Lisa (David) St. Ours of Niagara, Wis., and Jeffrey (Marisa) Walters of Florence, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Walters of Hickory Corners, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. A memorial will be established in his memory.
The family would like to thank Marquette General Home Health and Hospice, especially Mary Grable and APRIA Home Health Care.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Helmi Rice
KINGSFORD - Helmi (Lamprecht) Rice died peacefully in her sleep at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain on Sunday, June 29, 2003.
She had been a resident of Florence Villa Nursing Home since October of 1999. Helmi was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Gladstone, daughter of the late William and Ida (Linti) Hanson. She lived in Kingsford most of her life and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1934. She married Louis G. Lamprecht, in 1937, and was married for 39 years. She later married Frank G. Rice, in 1979, and was married for 19 years. Helmi worked as a nurses aide and in the laundry department at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain, retiring after many years of service. She enjoyed music, dancing and reading. She was a devoted caregiver for her family.
Helmi is survived by three children, Louis H. (Rubie) Lamprecht of Milwaukee, Irene Ackerman of Kingsford and Ken (Clare) Lamprecht of Crystal Falls; six grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Carol Taylor; 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Louis G. Lamprecht, in 1976, and Frank G. Rice, in 1998; a son-in-law, Nick Ackerman, in 1998; a grandson, David Ackerman, in 2003; three sisters and seven brothers.
Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Woodrow LaLonde
FELCH - Woodrow L. 'Woody' LaLonde, 85, of N9428 Norway Lake Road, Felch, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
Woody was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Felch, son of the late Lawrence and Ellen (Solberg) LaLonde. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Asiatic-Pacific and European-African-Middle Eastern Theaters of operation during World War II. Woody married Melvina Johnson on March 1, 1947, in Perronville. He was postmaster of the Felch post office for 27 years until retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Foster City, the Felch-Breen American Legion Post, and the Eastern Dickinson County Sportsmen's Club. He loved baseball and enjoyed playing on local teams until he was 45 years-old. He helped organize the first Little League in Felch. Woody also enjoyed playing golf. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Melvina; a son, Randall (Patricia) LaLonde of Lowville, N.Y.; a daughter, Kathleen (Leon) Grunlund of Norway Lake; a brother, Dale (Elaine) LaLonde of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Helen Ann Davidson of Milwaukee and Gwendolyn (Robert) Barsch of Milwaukee; five grandchildren, Timothy, Steven and David Grunlund and Evan and Alec LaLonde; and a sister-in-law, Bernice LaLonde of Chicago.
Woody was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Kay LaLonde; a brother, Harry 'Topper' LaLonde and two sisters, Gertrude Anderson and Doraldine 'Deena' Anderson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Foster City. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Fr. George Kuppayil will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.

Clarence Oliver
KINGSFORD - Clarence R. Oliver, 85, of 229 Lawrence St., Kingsford, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at his home.
Clarence was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Edwin and Alma (Lilja) Oliver. He had been a resident of the area his entire life. Clarence married the former Genevieve LaHaie on Aug. 12, 1939, in Loretto. He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Clarence worked as a machinist for Lakeshore Inc. in Kingsford for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He also worked out of his home as a television and radio repairman for many years. Clarence was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Knights of Pythias. He and his wife traveled extensively. He loved biking and walking and was an avid reader.
Clarence was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Cecrle; a son, Donald Oliver; a brother, James Oliver and two sisters, LaVerne Trepanier and Frances Olson.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Genevieve; two sons, Richard (Darlene) Oliver of California and Robert Oliver of Kingsford; two daughters, Tina (Donald) Fehrenbach of Blue Ridge, Ga. and Liz (Paul) Olson of Quinnesec; a niece, Albertine Mattson; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Roger Nyquist
IRON MOUNTAIN - Roger A. 'Cotton' Nyquist, 92, of 309 Blaine St., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Iron Mountain, son of the late John and Hannah (Johnson) Nyquist. Roger was a 1929 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He married the former Violet Nelson on March 13, 1933, and she preceded him in death in 1990. Roger worked for Ford Motor Co. in Kingsford and was instrumental in the organization of the the labor union there. He was also the devoted caretaker of Iron Mountain City Park for many years. Roger enjoyed walking, gardening, cutting wood, and spending time at camp. When he was younger, he was an excellent baseball player.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (James) Frievalt of Iron Mountain; three grandchildren, Randall Frievalt, Vickie Jenshak and Kevin Frievalt, all of Iron Mountain; five great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Kenneth Pengrazzi.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Alice Alexander
NORWAY - Alice E. Alexander, 92, of 1832 Seventh Ave., Norway, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Alice was born June 25, 1910, in Worden, Ill., daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Walker) Wiltz. She married Arthur Alexander on Oct. 26, 1929, and he preceded her in death in April of 1990. Alice lived in Dearborn, lower Michigan, until moving to Norway in 1949.
She enjoyed bowling in the bowling league for more than 50 years. Alice and her husband owned and operated the A&B; Bar in Norway from 1949 to 1989.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Calcatera, in 2002; and eight brothers and sisters, Ruth, Helen, Frances, Frank, Jim, Gladys, Ed and Jean.
Alice is survived by a son, Douglas Alexander of Norway; daughters, Helen Joanne (Joseph) Pellegrini of Norway and Lois Alexander of Appleton, Wis.; a sister, Eileen (Sam) Hegler of Dearborn; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Private graveside services will be held. Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local hospice organization.

Agnes May Olson
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Agnes May Olson, 66, of N4839 County Road 607, Breitung Township, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the home of her daughter.
She was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Hardwood, daughter of the late Benjamin and Hazel (Meeker) Peterson. May was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1955. She married Raymond Olson on June 1, 1957, at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Ray preceded her in death in January of 1999. May was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain for the past four years. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren very much.
She is survived by a son, Thomas (Laurie) Olson of Green Bay, Wis.; a daughter, Donna (Michael) Kelly of Breitung Township; three special nephews that were raised by Ray and May, Donald (Jane) Peterson of East Moline, Ill., Alan (Sally) Peterson of Marinette, Wis. and Robert (Barb) Peterson of Stephenson; three grandchildren, Sydney and Evan Olson and Kayla Kelly; four sisters-in-law, Beverly Peterson of Iron Mountain, Gladys Partenen and Helen (Doug) Bennett, both of Kingsford and Elaine (Leonard) White of Holt, lower Michigan; and a brother-in-law, Robert 'Sonny' (Debbie) Olson of Kingsford.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Harold, Marian and Donald Peterson.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 16 from noon until 1 p.m at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 16 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Alice Miron
KINGSFORD - Alice Ruth Miron, 69, of 140 Balsam St., Kingsford, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at her home.
She was born April 26, 1934, in Chicago, daughter of the late John and Suzie (Volenchek) Zitzka. Alice married James Miron on Nov. 29, 1952, in Chicago and he preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1999. Alice moved to Aurora, Wis. in 1969. She worked for Foley Marten for 17 years, retiring in 1996. After her husband's death, she moved to Kingsford in August of 2000. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. Alice loved to bake, travel, read and she especially loved Christmas. 'We will miss you so much Mom.'
She is survived by three daughters, Karen (Douglas) Fredrickson of Kingsford, Cynthia Krisik of Kingsford and Debra (Troy) Lysell of Indiana; two sons, Dennis (Cindy) Miron of Kingsford and Alan (Carla) Miron of Niagara, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Jim, Carrie, Brian, Christopher, Angela, Jennifer and Troy Jr.; two great-granddaughters, Journey and Kendall; a brother, Robert (Marlene) Zitzka of Carpentersville, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Emily Miron of Rapid River; a dear friend, Lee Milbow of Kingsford; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, John, Adam, George and Thomas Zitzka and a sister, Mary Butler.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Martin Koeller will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora-Homestead cemetery.

Evelyn Paquin
NORWAY - Evelyn Paquin, 76, of 119 11th Ave., Norway, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
She was born Jan. 11, 1927, in Kingsford, daughter of the late William and Tillie (Lemay) Powell. Evelyn married Vertin 'Packy' Paquin on Aug. 29, 1953. They owned and operated Evelyn's Curve Inn in Spread Eagle, Wis., for 13 years. She also worked at the Four Lane Bar and Playboy Lounge for many years until her retirement. Her greatest enjoyment was the many camping and fishing trips with her husband over their years together. He preceded her in death in 1990. Evelyn also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Ron (Barb) Waeghe of South Gate, lower Michigan, and Rick (Maureen) Paquin of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Candy (Don) Cavaiani of Appleton, Wis.; two brothers, Fred (Cindy) Powell of Kingsford and Jack (Marie) Veraghen of Kingsford; a sister, Vivian Powell of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Sheryl (Jim) Beri, Lisa Cavaiani, Dawn Marie (Ramon) Lopez, Angela (Jeff) Hoffman, Paul Cavaiani, Rick Cavaiani, Nick and Tony Fleury, and six great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her siblings, Agnes Jackson, Lloyd (Bucky) Powell, William (Peany) Powell, Ellery Powell and Eunice Schinderle.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Deacon Clay Wildenberg will officiate.

Sherman Hamby
KINGSFORD - Sherman Lynville Hamby, 92, of 1225 Woodward Ave., Kingsford, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born July 9, 1910, in Gary, W.Va., son of Harvey Daniel Franklin and Mandy Belle (Hunley) Hamby. He married Alene Wanda Sexton on July 10, 1929, in Anawalt, W.Va. and she preceded him in death on April 13, 1998. He moved to Michigan in 1941 and worked for Superior Rock Product Co. as a superintendent for 25 years. He then worked for Hancock Wood Products until he retired in 1972. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He loved his family very much.
He leaves his children, two sons, Donald (Florence) Hamby of Randville and Kenneth (Delores) Hamby of Iron Mountain and two daughters, Wanda (Robert) Roell of Iron Mountain and Rita (Ronald) Olson of Kingsford; a daughter-in-law, Mary Hamby of Appleton, Wis.; and a sister, Grace Cregger of Princeton, W.Va.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Ronald Hamby of Appleton, Wis. on May 11, 2002; a daughter Lessie Carlson of Kingsford on March 21, 2003; his parents; two brothers, Vernon Hamby and Elwood Hamby; and three sisters, Ethel Cregger, Lula Pennington and Dora Johnson.
Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rod, Don and Randy Hamby, Hope Atwater, Jason Roell and Bob Miller.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.
