George Schultz
IRON MOUNTAIN - George 'Cuzy' Schultz, 72, of 818 East I St., Iron Mountain, died suddenly Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Marquette, son of the late George and Lillian (LeQuia) Schultz. His family moved to Kingsford at the age of two and he has been a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947.
George married
Mickey Meagher on June 27, 1953, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. He had worked for the Esser Glass Co. as a glazer for 10 years before buying St. George Glass Co. with his business partner, Bob Capra. He retired from the glass business in 1984 and then worked as a custodian for St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years.
George enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to work in the yard and watch birds. He was an avid Mountaineer and University of Michigan fan.
He loved his only granddaughter and best friend dearly and was affectionately known as Ga-ga by her.
He is survived by his wife, Mickey; a son, Michael (Laurie) Schultz of Niagara, Wis.; a daughter, Mary (Patt) Burgess of Breitung Township; a granddaughter, Abby Burgess; two brothers, Robert (Pat) Schultz of New Ulm, Minn. and William (Sharon) Schultz of Sun City West, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Germaine (Dudleigh) Schroder of Escanaba and Corrine (Roger) Palmcook of Aurora, Wis.; a brother-in-law, Ted (Pat) Meagher of Iron Mountain; an aunt and uncle, Celina and Tony Crnkovich of Ishpeming and many nieces and nephews, including two special great-nieces, Allie and Alyssa Grassmyer.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Patt Burgess, Ted Meagher, Roger Palmcook, Forrest Rousseau, Dudleigh Schroder, Gary Vicenzi.

Irma Berg
KINGSFORD - Irma K. Berg, 92, formerly of 204 Beech St., Kingsford, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Freeman Convalescent Home in Kingsford.
Irma was born June 24, 1910, in Sunrise, Wyo., daughter of the late Hugo and Mary (Masnaghetti) Pesciarelli. She was raised in Bessemer and has been a resident of the area since 1938.
She married
John Berg on Dec. 14, 1931, in Bessemer. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1988.
Irma was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Busy 10 extension club. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Matilda Carlson and Dora Mazurek.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Ellen) Berg of Simonville, S.C. and Richard (Terri) Berg of Littleton, Co.; a brother, Vincent (Elizabeth) Pereli of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren, Kenton, Kirsten, Scott and Debra; and four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Nicole, Tara and Leah.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Jonas of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Phyllis Vicenzi
IRON MOUNTAIN - Phyllis J. Vicenzi, 76, of 412 East E St., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Phyllis was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Iron River, daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Hansen) Colberg. She graduated from Iron River High School in 1943.
She married
Clement Vicenzi on May 18, 1946, at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. He preceded her in death in August of 1988.
Phyllis worked as district court clerk for Dickinson County for 16 years.
She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a former member of the Italian Women's Club.
Phyllis and her late husband, Clem were instrumental in the formation of the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
She was a resident of the area most of her life.
Phyllis is survived by a son, Gary (Pat) Vicenzi of Iron Mountain; three grandchildren, Anthony Vicenzi (U.S. Army) of Hanau, Germany, Matthew Vicenzi a student at Northern Michigan University (NMU) in Marquette and Stephen Vicenzi at home; a special friend, Albert Howell of Florence; good friend, Joyce Mish of Norway; many nieces and nephews, two aunts and numerous cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Vicenzi, in 1965, and two brothers, Marvin and Clark Colberg.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Dan Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Anthony, Matthew and Stephen Vicenzi, Donald Angera, Ted Meagher and Dennis Vicenzi.

Mildred Blomquist
IRON MOUNTAIN - Mildred V. Blomquist, 88, formerly of 401 East D St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Metropolitan, daughter of the late John and Hilma (Erickson) Isaacson.
Mildred married
the late Conrad Blomquist in 1932.
She spent many years in Chicago, where she worked for 19 years at Bally Manufacturing. She returned to this area 24 years ago.
Mildred was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.
She enjoyed music, loved to sing and play the piano.
Mildred was also preceded in death by her son, Eugene Blomquist; five brothers, Andrew, Edwin, Iver, Alfred and Adolph Isaacson, and four sisters, Irene Isaacson, Signe Skogman, Hildur Carlson and Ellen Forstrom.
She is survived by a daughter, Vernice Lindskog of Illinois; a sister, Ethel Mattson of Kingsford; five grandchildren, Carl Lindskog, Nancy (James) Peters, Sharon (Bobby) Yang, Chari and Craig Blomquist; five great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jason Aeverman, Misty Blomquist, Vanessa and Matthew Yang, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church. Rev. John Voelker will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.
A memorial will be established in her memory to Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.

Leona D'Alberto
IRON MOUNTAIN
Leona L. D'Alberto, 87, formerly of 205 W. Fleshiem St., Iron Mountain, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Florence Villa Nursing Home in Florence.
Leona was born April 8, 1915, in Chicago, daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Debronsky) Moller. She had been a resident of this area for most of her life.
She married
Frank D'Alberto on July 15, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1998.
Leona was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
She operated a fruit stand on U.S. 2 in Iron Mountain for several years. Following this she and her husband owned a dairy farm. Together they also owned and managed several rental properties in the area. She operated Lee's Restaurant in Florence for a few years and had worked for the Pine Mountain Lodge for 15 years.
Leona was an avid fisherman. Her cooking was a labor of love and she took great enjoyment in feeding everyone. She considered herself a professional rummage sale shopper.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan D'Alberto; a sister, Katherine Thomas, and a brother, Charles Moller.
Leona is survived by three sons, Peter (Nancy) D'Alberto of Breitung Township, Barry (Peggy) D'Alberto of St. Germain, Wis., and Frank Jr. (Carol) D'Alberto of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Wendy (Ronald) Seppi of Oak Creek, Wis.; a sister, Rose (Gordon) Seaver of Humboldt, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Peter (Iris) D'Alberto, Paul (Jayne) D'Alberto, Stephen (Wendy) D'Alberto, Kim D'Alberto, Jacquelyn Seppi, Joseph Seppi and Jacob Seppi, and eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle, Abbey, Joshua, James, Sarah, Avery and Morgan.
Visitation will be Friday, September 20, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Sister Marla Clercx will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
A luncheon will follow in the Immanuel Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Charles Anderson
KINGSFORD - Charles R. Anderson, 58, of 225 Lane St., Kingsford, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at his home in Kingsford.
He was born Feb. 14, 1944 in Stambaugh.
Charles was a 1963 graduate of Kingsford High School. He was an outstanding trombonist under the tutelage of John Calo. Charles played in the Kingsford High School band for four years. He also played many years in the Dickinson County Area Band and in many parades for the 'Old Comrades Band.'
Charles was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. He last worked for the Kingsford Housing Authority.
He leaves his father, Rueben of Kingsford; brothers, Richard Anderson of Florence, Wis. and Joseph (Renee') Anderson of Breitung Township; a niece, Tricia Wilke of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephews, Joseph Anderson Jr. of Cincinnati and Michael Anderson, who is attending Grand Valley State in Allendale, lower Michigan. He is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine, in 1992.
Visitation will be on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Fr. Mike Woepner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be at Quinnesec cemetery.

Ruth Verrette
IRON MOUNTAIN - Ruth B. Verrette, 88, of 602 East F St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born March 12, 1914, in Marquette, daughter of the late William and Esther (Carlson) Bystrom. Mrs. Verrette was a 1931 graduate of Marquette Graeveret High School. She continued her education and graduated in 1935 with a bachelor of science degree in education from Northern Michigan Teachers College.
Ruth Verrette taught school in Alpena and Central Lake Michigan for three years.
On Jan. 15, 1937, she married
Louis C. Verrette in Marquette. They moved to Iron Mountain and resided here until Jan. 7, 1942, when they relocated during World War II to Fort Belvoir, Va. They returned to Iron Mountain in 1946.
She and Louis co-founded Champion Inc., where she worked in various positions, including vice president of administration from which she retired in 1972.
Mrs. Verrette continued her involvement with the company serving as a member of the board of directors until 1996, and as the editor of the company newsletter for more than 40 years.
Ruth Verrette was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron Mountain, a member of the Chippewa Club, and a member of the Pine Grove Country Club, where as an avid golfer she scored two holes in one. She was a charter member of the Tuesday Study Club and the Zonta Club.
Ruth Verrette served as president of the Iron Mountain Washington Elementary School PTA, taught home nursing in Iron Mountain and taught English as a second language for the Martin Co. Florida Council on Literacy from 1986 to 1994.
Mrs. Verrette was an accomplished painter in oil and water color and enjoyed painting the wild waters of Lake Superior.
She loved her gardens. She enjoyed traveling and together with her beloved husband traveled extensively throughout the world.
Mrs. Verrette was preceded in death by her husband, Louis on June 6, 1996, and by her brother, Orville Bystrom.
She is survived by her son, William C. (Wilma) Verrette of Iron Mountain; her daughter, Julie A. Verrette of Florence, Wis.; a sister, Helen (Emmett) Johnson of Iron Mountain, and seven grandchildren, Thomas (Nicole) Verrette of Iron Mountain, Stephen (Beth) Verrette of Iron Mountain, Cynthia (Jack) Rusch of Sun Prairie, Wis., Paula Verrette of Aurora, Elisabeth Cade-Pape of Madison, Wis., Timothy (Shanna) Cade of Spread Eagle, Wis., and Michael Cade of Portland, Ore. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Annica, Levi, Lexi, Camden and Simon, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Jonas, pastor of First Lutheran Church of Iron Mountain, will officiate.
