MARGARET J. GOODMAN

Napoleon

Margaret J. "Peggy" Goodman of Napoleon, 60, died Jan. 16, 2006, under the loving care of her family, friends, and Hospice of Jackson/Oaklawn. She was born Jan. 14, 1946, the daughter of Ed and Betty (Rice) Stutsman in Portland, Ind.

Mrs. Goodman worked in the radiology department at Chelsea Community Hospital for 29 years, retiring in 2005.

She was an avid bowler and golfer.

Mrs. Goodman is survived by her son, David, and brother, Larry Stutsman.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah, and parents.

Visitation was Friday and a funeral was held Saturday at Sherwood Funeral Home in Grass Lake. The Rev. Kathy Schell officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Jackson/Oaklawn. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

FRANK D. COLLIAU

Dexter

Frank D. Colliau, 81, of Dexter died Jan. 18, 2006.

He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (nee Bauer); dear father of Cathy Setsuda, David (Susan) Colliau and Donald (Kathy) Colliau; and loving grandfather and great-grandfather of four grandsons and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition, he is survived by longtime companion Dawn Easterling.

Mr. Colliau was very active with the American Legion, Kiwanis club, Washtenaw 100 and the Washtenaw County Sheriff Divers.

The family received friends Sunday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

A funeral was held Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at St. Andrew's cemetery in Dexter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice and the Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

RON KIEL

Ann Arbor

Ron Kiel, 73, of Ann Arbor, formerly of Chelsea, died Jan. 19, 2006, at Arbor Hospice. He was born March 21, 1932, in Detroit the son of Elmer E. and Irene M. (Schumacher) Kiel.

Mr. Kiel retired from Daimler Chrysler's Chelsea Proving Grounds after 35 years of service.

He also served two years for the U.S. Army in Germany as part of the military police during the Korean War.

Survivors include five children, Ron (Pam) Kiel of Chelsea, Jeff (Shanda) Kiel of Indian River, Sheryl Kiel (Mike Dayton) of Mattawan, Karen (Doug) Burchett of Chelsea and David (Carol) Kiel of Benton Harbor; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Hagan of Utica and Ethel Swartz of Warren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Kiel.

On April 16, 1993, he married Nancy (VanRiper) Sweeny, and she survives. Also surviving are his step-children, Ronald (Bethany) Sweeny of Dexter, Rick Sweeny of Pinckney, Randy (Sabrina) Sweeny and Rod (Rachel) Sweeny, both of Florida, and Ryan Sweeny of Ann Arbor; eight step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers, including Elmer Kiel, and one step-grandson.

Funeral services were held Monday at Cole Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Lyons and Don Pierson Sr. officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice or the scholarship fund for the Kiel grandchildren.

LEATHA NORINE McKAY

Gregory

Leatha Norine McKay, 89, of Gregory, formerly of Port Richey, Fla., died Jan. 22, 2006, at Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born May 20, 1916, in Detroit.

Mrs. McKay had been in declining health during the last year and was very grateful for the loving care she received during her final months, her family said.

Although she worked at many things during her life, in her heart she was first and foremost a dancer. Mrs. McKay's ability in dance was recognized early in life, and she enjoyed many accolades and opportunities, including being one of the original Rockettes, performing at the Fox Theater, and the chance to dance with Buddy Epsen.

Mrs. McKay was classically trained in the Cecchetti method and passed her love of dance on to her students for many years. She was also an avid animal lover who was always accompanied by a canine friend throughout her life.

Mrs. McKay was predeceased by her husband, Richard V. McKay, in August 2003.

She dearly loved her family and leaves a daughter, Sharon (Frank) Pignanelli of Gregory; a son, Randall (Sharon) McKay of Livonia; grandchildren, Lisa (Clark) Ivey of Perry, John Pignanelli of Chicago, Chris (Lolita) McKay of Corunna, Calif., and Matthew (Shannon) McKay, Melissa McKay and Lindsay McKay of Livonia; and eight great-grandchildren.

At her request, cremation has taken place and her remains will be moved to their final resting place at a later date.

The family will greet friends beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 N. Main St., in Chelsea. A memorial service by the Rev. Diane Smith, chaplain of Arbor Hospice, will follow at 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the humane society or Arbor Hospice.

HELEN M. (DOERING) DORER

Michigan Center

Formerly of Chelsea

Helen M. (Doering) Dorer, 83, of Michigan Center, formerly of Chelsea, died Jan. 20, 2006, at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility.

Mrs. Dorer was a retired secretary from Chelsea Milling Co., maker of Jiffy Mix, in Chelsea. Before moving to Michigan Center, she had been an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She also was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Mrs. Dorer is survived by her husband of 12 years, Vincent "Jerry" Dorer of Michigan Center; two sons, Ronald (Barbara) Doering of Dexter and Raymond (Brenda) Doering of Indiana; and three step-children, Steven (Denise) Dorer of Howell, Kevin (Angie) Dorer of Pleasant Lake and Doreen Dorer of Dexter.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Todd Doering, Amy Weir, Jeffrey (Mary) Doering, Matthew Doering and Dan Doering; eight great-grandchildren; a brother; William (Sue) Pelsinski; a twin sister, Stella Mikelonis; a sister-in-law, Mary (Herbert) Brogan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her first husband, Joseph Doering, of 39 years, who died in 1980; her parents, William and Cornelia Pelsinski; a sister, Sophia; two brothers-in-law, William Fryt and Florentino Mikelonis; and a great-grandson, Caleb Weir.

Services were held Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew Dunne officiated. Interment was held at St. John's Catholic cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Fatima Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral arrangements were by Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home in Michigan Center.

WILLIAM ROTHE

Dexter

William Rothe, 78, of Dexter died Dec. 29, 2005. He was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Northfield Township the son of Emil and Clara (Dresch) Rothenbecker.

Mr. Rothe served in the U.S. Navy Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Local 190 Plumbers and Pipefitters for more than 50 years. He was a member of the VFW 423 and American Legion 557. He raised, trained and raced harness racing horses.

Mr. Rothe is survived by his wife, Georgia; brother, Philip Rothe of Sun City, Ariz.; sisters, Gladys Cutter of Roanoke, Va., Leta Miller of Ann Arbor, Mary Ann McEvoy of Pinckney, Barbara Lewis of Saline and Katherine Swarthout of Pinckney; several nieces and nephews; and many loving friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Thiele.

Based on his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service in the summer.

Arrangements were by Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel.

WAYNE A. LUCKHARDT
REANN J. LUCKHARDT

Big Rapids

Formerly of Grass Lake

Wayne A. Luckhardt, 55, and Reann J. (Drouare) Luckhardt, 52, of Big Rapids, formerly of Grass Lake, died Jan. 1, 2006, after their car was struck by a drunk driver in Wexford County.

Mr. Luckhardt was born May 19, 1950, in Ann Arbor the son of Andrew J. and Bonolyn J. (Brown) Luckhardt.

Mrs. Luckhardt was born March 29, 1953, in Detroit, the daughter of Harold A. and Elizabeth A. (Leszczynski) Drouare.

Both had been residents of Big Rapids since 1999.

Mr. Luckhardt was a bus driver for the Mescosta County Headstart program for the past two years. He was a licensed contractor and had built two personal homes.

He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, fishing, and he belonged to a bicycle club. In addition, he was a master gardener.

Mrs. Luckhardt was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, and was the billing director for Spectrum Health in Reed City. She enjoyed gardening, bicycling, motorcycling, horses, as well as her children and other family members.

The couple married Aug. 12, 1978, in Saline.

Surviving are their two children, Jonathan Luckhardt and Tamara Luckhardt, both of East Lansing.

His survivors include his father of Saline; two brothers, Gary Luckhardt of Saline and Russell (Colette) Luckhardt of Gregory; a sister, Judy (Duane) Fiegel of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

Her survivors include her mother of Grass Lake; two brothers, Ralph H. (Barbara) Drouare of Commerce Township and Roger (Sharon) Drouare of Grass Lake; two sisters, Rochelle Drouare of Commerce Township and Rita (Edgar) Crawley of Dundee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and nephew, Douglas Drouare.

She was preceded in death by her father; infant brother, Ruell; and a nephew, Douglas Drouare.

Funeral services for both were held Jan. 7 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. The Rev. William Turner and Deacon Richard Shaneyfelt officiated.

A rosary was held Friday at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Burial was at St. Mary cemetery in Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to Luckhardt Children Scholarship Fund.

BETTY J. RUDD

Plymouth, Ohio

Formerly of Chelsea

Betty J. Rudd, 85, of Plymouth, Ohio, died Jan. 5, 2006, at Hillside Acres in Willard. She was born Aug. 7, 1920, to David Karl and Ruth Irene McGinty, both now deceased.

Mrs. Rudd is survived by her loving husband, Robert D. "Bob" Rudd, of more than 66 years. They were married Dec. 17, 1939, at the First Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Ohio. They resided in Chelsea for the first 40 years of their lives together before moving back to her hometown in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Rudd leaves behind three children who honor her as a loving, generous lady. She is survived by two daughters Judy (Paul) Tudor of Middletown, Ohio, and Janice Speer of Chelsea, and a son, Robert D. (Vickie) Rudd Jr. of Chelsea.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen Baker, Laura Predieri and Norma Patton, and is survived by three sisters, Elsie Predieri, Velma (Edd) Vanderpool and Kayrol (Leonard) Fenner.

Mrs. Rudd had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will mourn her passing.

Many sisters- and brothers-in-law, as well as nephews and nieces, who also will miss her greatly, survive as well.

Mrs. Rudd was a devoted homemaker, a former Sunday school teacher, and active in her community. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Olive Chapter 108 in Chelsea, a past Worthy Matron, and honored as a Grand Committee member serving under the State of Michigan's Grand Worthy Matron, Alice Volink.

Mrs. Rudd was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary Post 447 in Plymouth, Ohio. She enjoyed playing the organ for her own personal pleasure, and assisted when the First Lutheran Church's organ needed to be tuned.

She also loved to read, sew and crochet, and enjoyed her many friends.

A funeral was held Jan. 7 at Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth. The Rev. Leonard Shatkus officiated. Burial was at the Greenlawn cemetery in Plymouth, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Viking Academic Boosters Club, McGinty-Rudd Memorial Scholarship Fund, 4650 Henry Road, Shelby, OH, 44875. The fund was established 10 years ago to reward scholarship funding to a deserving, local high school senior.
