Chris S. Edlund
AURORA, Wis.' Chris S. Edlund, 58, of 2636 River Dr., Aurora, Wis., passed away Aug. 17, 2007, at her home.
She was born on June 11, 1949, in Escanaba. Chris was a 1967 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. She has been a resident of this area her entire life.
She married
Douglas Edlund on June 23, 1965, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain.
She worked as a bank teller for First National Bank in Iron Mountain for more than 30 years.
Chris was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and the Dickinson County Pilots Association.
She enjoyed showing and training her dogs. She loved animals, especially her horses. She enjoyed riding and giving riding lessons.
Chris loved life and sharing her time with her family and grandchildren.
Chris was preceded in death by her mother Julia (Simons) Stuart, an infant brother and sister and a sister Karen Berquist.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas, her son Douglas (Cathy) Edlund of downstate Ortonville, daughter Kathy (Scott) Doda of Aurora, Wis., sisters, Candy (Vince) Lauk of Breitung Township and Norma (Paul) Raboin of Norway, grandchildren, Emma Edlund, Alec, Keaghan and Logan Doda, her father, Bruce Stuart of Kingsford, brother-in-law, John Berquist and her special friend, Diane Smith of Kingsford; also by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. at the church. Rev. Charles Piper will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Spring Lake Humane Society.

Wayne R. Voelker
Kingsford - Wayne R. Voelker, of 1600 W. Breen St. Kingsford, died Sun. Aug. 12, 2007 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born on July 16, 1930 in Alpha, MI, the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Minnick) Voelker.
Wayne served in the United States Air Force from Oct. 28, 1948-Oct. 16, 1949 in the fire department. He worked for the Mario Branz Co. until his retirement and was a member of the union for forty years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to Las Vegas gardening, hunting, fishing, and cribbage. He leaves his beloved dog Benji.
Wayne married
Corrine Sgrecci on Sept. 25, 1976 in Iron Mountain.
He is survived by his wife Corrine, three children Cheryl (John) Fuse of IronMountain, Chris (Maryann) Voelker of Iron Mountain, and Donna (Sandro) Carubini of Breitung Township, six grandchildren Mark (Lisa) Fuse of Iron Mountain, Angela (Matthew) Whitener of Indian River, MI, Samantha (Joe) Ivacko of Norway, Alison (Robert) Voelker of Crystal Falls, Kelby (Jen) McElroy of Iron Mountain, and Ashley Carubini of Breitung Township, four great grandchildren Cassidy Whitener, Ava Fuse, Kaydince Bozile, and Auna Ivacko, two brothers Harold Voelker of Pembine and Herbert "Chum"(Penny) Voelker of Seminole, FL, two sisters-in-law Vivian Voelker of Alpha and Gloria Voelker of Port Richey, FL, one brother-in-law David (Mary) Sgrecci of Iron Mountain and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary in 1973, three brothers George (Emma), William, and Glen Voelker, one sister Faye (Walter) Krajewski, one sister-in-law Bernita Voelker, and two nieces Clarice Krajewski Lamprecht and Carol An Voelker.
A private family service will be held. Rev. Darwyn Coty will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50.

Ariel L. Lehto
Kingsford - Ariel L. Lehto, 88, of Kingsford, went to be with her Lord on Sat. Aug. 11, 2007 at Freeman's Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford. She was born on Sept. 14, 1918 in Sylvan, WI, the daughter of the late Ray and Grace (Janney) Roudebush.
Ariel was always supportive and caring. She never judged anyone or interfered. She was always a caregiver for her entire family, even taking care of her husband's brothers. She was very proud of her heritage and her family, spending time with them whenever she could. She also was happy to admit that Katherine Hepburn was related to her.
Ariel had a strong work ethic and worked at the Dickinson Hotel for 17 years and the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for ten years. She also worked at the Tom Safford State Farm Agency until she was forced to retire at age 88 due to a stroke. She was an active member of Balsam Street Christian Church. Ariel enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling.
She married
John Lehto on Sept. 21, 1935 in Alpha. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Ariel is survived by one son Duane (Gail) Lehto of Pembine, WI, four daughters Norma (Edward 'Pepper') Steele of Kingsford, Jean (Jim) West of Vulcan, Darlene ( Ron) Solberg of Kingsford and Wanda (Sam) Faull of Norway, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one grandson Billy Jo Lehto, two great grandchildren Jonathon Paquette and Nicole Belongia, and many brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Weds. from 5-7pm at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thurs. at 11am at the funeral home. Sister Georgianne Roudebush will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Louis Emerson Dixon
QUINNESEC - Louis Emerson Dixon, 83, of 694 College Ave., Quinnesec, formerly of Pembine, was born in Pembine, Wis. to William and Molly (Hendricks) Dixon on Aug. 6, 1924. Louis Dixon's earthly life came to an end the morning of Aug. 8, 2007, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Dixon.
Mr. Dixon was known for his integrity and a lifetime of hard work. He began plowing in the fields with a horse at the age of six, because his father was sickly and his father taught how to work the horse. He worked as a logger for about 10 years and was a member of the International Operating Engineers for 51 years, retiring as a truck driver in 1986 from the Marinette County Highway Commission. Mr. Dixon was an avid gardner and thoroughly enjoyed his raspberry patch too.
He married
Ruth Vankirk on July 17, 1944. She survives him at Luther Nursing Home in Marinette, Wis.
In addition to his wife, Louis is survived by three sons, William (Mary) Dixon of Quinnesec, Phillip Dixon of Peshtigo, Wis., and Daniel Dixon of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Kathleen Dixon of Pembine; one granddaughter, Angela (Jason) Gustafson of Quinnesec, the daughter of William and Mary Dixon, and a great-grandson, Brandon Lake, Angela's son; eight step-grandchildren, Louis (Corrine) Linsmeyer, Patricia (David) Gardiner, Doug (Sandy) Linsmeyer, John (Lori) Linsmeyer, Paul (Charlene) Linsmeyer, Greg Linsmeyer, Mary Beth (Carl) Hammer, and Laura (Terry) Strutz; 27 step great-grandchildren and 20 step great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Grant Dixon; two sisters, Eleanor Newlin and Isabelle Papesh; and one step-grandson, Tom Linsmeyer.
Louis' last days were spent enjoying his granddaughter and great-grandson, who spent many hours with him.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
A funeral dinner will be served at the church and it will be followed by burial in the Pembine cemetery.

Nancy Ann DalSanto
CHANNING - Nancy Ann DalSanto, 55, of Channing, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1951, in Iron Mountain, daughter of Arthur Hart and the late Shirley (Welch) Hart. She was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1969. She attended the Wisconsin School of Cosmotology and graduated as a licensed beautician.
She married
James DalSanto on Aug. 26, 1978, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
Nancy had worked for the Golden Comb for about 10 years and also at Sonny's Market in Channing and Econo Foods in Iron Mountain. She was a member of St. Rose Church in Channing and volunteered for many luncheon committees. She enjoyed doing things for others and always put other's needs before her own.
She is survived by her husband, James; three daughters, Amanda (David) Esler of Coon Rapids, Minn., Courtney and Whitney DalSanto, both at home; her father, Arthur Hart of Iron Mountain; her mother-in-law, Lorraine DalSanto of Channing; three sisters, Linda (Don) Beauregard of San Diego, Mary Jane Hart of Iron Mountain, and Judy (James) Mantta of Green Bay, Wis; brother and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Keist of Houston, Peter (Annette) DalSanto of Bloomingdale, Ill., and Toni (Doug) Halverson of Cloquet, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Hart; father-in-law, Robert 'Susie' DalSanto; two infant children and one infant sister.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Fr. Dick Mroz will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Peter DalSanto, James Mantta, David Esler, Ray Visintainer, Roger Roell, and Andrew Woodward.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Richard "Rick" Underhill
IRON MOUNTAIN - Richard 'Rick' J. Underhill, 56, of 341 E. Ludington St. Iron Mountain, died Saturday morning Aug. 4, 2007, at his home.
Rick was born on Nov. 21, 1950, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Roland and Dorothy (Uren) Underhill. He was raised in this area and was a 1968 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Rick graduated from the DeVry Institute in 1972 as a computer analyst. He retired in 2004 as vice president of Butter Buds Food Ingredient Co. in Racine, Wis.
Following his retirement, he returned to Iron Mountain. Rick loved his Green Bay Packers, golfing, NASCAR racing and the Detroit Tigers.
Rick is survived by three daughters, Heather Ann (John) Lemcke of Milwaukee, Sarah Ellen (Tony Weber) Underhill of Baltimore, Md. and Mary Carol Underhill of Racine, Wis.; a brother, Jack (Pauline) Underhill of Kingsford; a sister, Carol Jean Underhill of Milwaukee; his adopted sister, Olga Henry of Milwaukee; an aunt, Carolyn 'Tillie' Miller of Iron Mountain; an uncle, Gibb Sackerson of Norway; and many cousins and friends. He also leaves two important people in his life, Toni (Mark Hanneman) Underhill of Milwaukee, and Laura (Mike) Palazzola of Racine, the mothers of his three beautiful daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Ann; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Margaret A. Machalk
KINGSFORD - Margaret A. Machalk, 90, of Kingsford, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born on June 1, 1917, in Point Mills, Mich., the daughter of the late Charles and Cordelia (Miron) LaPointe.
Margaret came to Iron Mountain with her parents in 1922 and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1935. She worked as a legal secretary for attorney Ray Derham in Iron Mountain for five years. She then moved to Hammond, Ind., where she was an executive secretary for LaSalle Steel Company for 17 years.
After retiring and returning to Kingsford, Margaret served as the parish secretary at American Martyrs Catholic Church for eight years.
She was an active member of American Martyrs Church and its St. Ann's Circle. Margaret collected Hummels and enjoyed feeding the animals and birds.
Margaret married
Frank Machalk on Dec. 28, 1940, at American Martyrs Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Alice (Don) Olson of Aurora; her brother, Arthur (Margie) LaPointe of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two special nieces, Carole Howard of Aransas Pass, Texas and Diane Carlson of Kingsford, and many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

Rosebud C. Sunich
AURORA, Wis. - Rosebud C. Sunich, 80, of Antioch, Ill., formerly of Aurora, passed away in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center in Lindenhurst, Ill.
She was born May 5, 1927, in Aurora, eldest daughter of the late Herbert and Marie (Schneider) Smith.
In 1945, Rosebud left Aurora to attend her nurse's training at the American Hospital in Chicago. She graduated with honors as a registered nurse in 1949.
Rosebud specialized in surgery and had a very special bond with a plethora of her fellow nurse's training classmates, which she remained close with over the years. She later transferred to the Thorec Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, where she became the head surgical nurse for Dr. Max Thorec and Dr. Philip Thorec.
Rosebud married
Frank M. Sunich at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aurora on March 17, 1951, and they resided in Chicago. Frank Sunich was a conductor for the C&NW; Railroad.
On April 16, 1956, Rosebud gave birth to their son, Philip, who was to be their only child due to an Rh factor. The family moved from Chicago to reside on the Chain of Lakes in Antioch, in 1960 and this remained their family domicile. Rosebud became a housewife and after Philip graduated from St. Peter's Elementary School in Antioch, she returned to her nursing career and obtained additional degrees in nursing while working with Dr. Vermairen in Antioch.
Pursuant to her love of surgery and surgical nursing, she continued her nursing career as the supervisor of the 4-West Surgical Wing of Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, Ill. In 1977, when her husband, Frank became ill, she immediately took a sabbatical from her nursing career to travel the world with and take care of her husband, who past away in May 1979. It's quite telling how Frank's physicians initially only gave him less than four months to live, however, with much credit to Rosebud's love, devotion and quality of nursing, actually became nearly two years which included a very high quality of life up until the last couple of weeks.
Frank and Rosebud loved to travel with their family and truly enjoyed the Big Band Era, further noting that as a couple, they were well accomplished ballroom dancers.
After Frank's passing when Rosebud returned to nursing, she was again the supervisor of the Surgical Wing for the Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, Ill. Even in her retirement years, she continued and maintained her registered nurse's certification in both Illinois and Wisconsin.
Rosebud is survived by one son, Philip (Patricia) Sunich of Bristol, Wis.; two adopted sisters, Marie (Dennis) Ahern of Menominee, and JoAnn (Ronald) Erickson of Spread Eagle, Wis.; grandchildren, Crystal (Timothy) Lind of Fox Lake, Ill., Ava (Eric) Bosack of Ingleside, Ill., and Frank Sunich of Bristol and five great-granddaughters, Lily, Destiny, Mariska, Savannah, and Erica.
Friends and acquaintances may call on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Zaloga officiating.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

John J. Fornetti
IRON MOUNTAIN - John James Fornetti, 88, of Iron Mountain, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born on June 1, 1919, the son of the late John and Staria (Regis) Fornetti.
John graduated from Iron Mountain High School. He was musically talented and played many instruments in the high school band. John worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp and at Bell telephone before his call to duty. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater in World War II. For his heroic service, John received many medals including the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze service star, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II.
Upon returning home from service, John worked at AT & T until his retirement in 1974.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was very fond of his Irish setter, Brandy.
John married
Alice Styzer on Nov. 21, 1942, in Norway. The couple enjoyed traveling.
John is survived by his wife Alice; his sister-in-law, Georgina (Robert) Rossato of Norway, and nieces and nephews, Dane, Robyn, and Ross Rossato, Regis and Randy Franck, and Ruth Bossom.
John was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Fornetti and one sister, Josephine Franck.
At John's request there will be no services.
