Helen Will

IRON MOUNTAIN - Helen Will, 91, formerly of 830 E. Stanton St., Iron Mountain, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.

Helen was born on Sept. 12, 1915, in Dawson, N.M., the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Parlanti) Palluconi. She was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School and has been a resident of this area for most of her life.

She married Charles P. Lundy on June 1, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1960.

On Jan. 12, 1964, Helen married Kenneth Will and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1997.

She worked as a legal secretary for Turner Law Office and at the Dickinson Inn for many years.

Helen was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Pine Grove Country Club, Lady Elks, Iron Mountain-Kingsford Womens Club and the Business and Professional Woman.

She loved to golf, cook and spend time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Angelo Palluconi; a sister, Flaminia "Fluff" Aimone and an adopted sister, Helen Angeli.

Helen is survived by her children, Mary K. (Thomas) Bugni of Kingsford, Paul (Catherine) Lundy of Spread Eagle, Wis., and Peter (Joanne) Lundy of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Tracy Bugni, Troy (Connie) Bugni, Audrey, Catherine and Alex Lundy, Carrie, Stephanie and Melanie Lundy; a great-granddaughter, Erinn Bugni, and sisters, Olive Hinkley of Iron Mountain and Julia Cavicchioni of Iron Mountain.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home. Rev. Michael March will conduct a prayer service at 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of the Christian burial.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Helen's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

A memorial will be established in her memory to the Carmelite Monastery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Jerry J. Pearson

AURORA, Wis. - Jerry J. Pearson, 60, of Aurora, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at the Beverly Living Center in Florence.

He was born on March 22, 1946 in Aurora, the son of the late Holden and Christine (Schneider) Pearson.

Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Jerry was very proud of his service to our country.

Jerry had a big heart and was very generous. He loved giving to others. In his younger years, he enjoyed woodcarving and clock/watch making.

He is survived by his sister, Dolly Baiochhi of Wadsworth, Ill.; his "adopted family, " Tom and Kathi Krans of Aurora; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Pearson and his sister, Verna Kocek.

A military graveside service will be held in the spring at the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Emily J. Leinen

KINGSFORD - Emily J. Leinen, 84, of 400 Birch St. in Kingsford, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

Emily was born on Jan. 9, 1923, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late William and Emily (Lilja) Merritt. She has been a resident of this area for most of her life.

She was married to Charles K. Leinen Sr. and on Aug. 7, 1991, he preceded her in death.

Emily worked as a nurse's aide in St. Joseph, Mo. and Longview, Texas, for several years. She worked many years side by side with her husband "the can man"in their recycling business in Goodman, Wis. They also owned and operated the Recycling Station Tavern in Goodman.

She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and making chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren.

Emily is survived by her children, Charles (Karen) Leinen Jr. of Peshtigo, Wis., Mitchell (Charlene) Leinen of Aurora, Wis., Thomas (Marlene) Leinen of St. Joseph, Va., (Wayne) Gardiepy of Kingsford and Debra (Nathan) Paquette of Wausau, Wis.; a sister, Emma McBride of Kingsford; grandchildren, Ruby (Greg) Brown, Brenda Shuey, Tim (Tara) Leinen, Billy Joe Leinen, Kelly (Joe) Rivera, Mitch (Peggy) Leinen, Sheila (Jeff) Lindblom, Carrie Leinen, Holly (Jim) Gray, Bless Paquette, Bethany Paquette, Breanna Paquette and Earline Bazilwich; great-grandchildren, Michelle Brown, Brandi Rivera, Eric Shuey, Monty Leinen, Teri Brown, Alex Shuey, Kayla Kuder, Shelbie Leinen, Skylie Leinen, Collin Lindblom, Courtland Gray, Emilee Lindblom, Macaela Leinen, Dakota Bazilwich and Gregory Bazilwich.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Thomas Merritt and sisters, Grace Ratiu, Matilda Coleman and Genevieve Fagan.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rev. David Wilton will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Pallbearers will be Mitch P. Leinen, Mitch C. Leinen, Tom Leinen, Tim Leinen, Chuck Leinen, Billy Joe Leinen and Wayne "Red" Gardiepy.

The family has entrusted the Kingsford Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Carl Elvir Johnson

GRANITE BLUFF - Carl Elvir Johnson, 77, of Granite Bluff, passed away on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, following a 19-month bout with cancer.

Carl's perseverance during this time allowed him to enjoy his grandchildren's activities, family birthdays and gatherings, working around the home and camp, hunting season, the many shopping trips to Iron Mountain with his wife, Dee, the weekly breakfast outings with longtime friend, Jack Carlson and especially Christmas 2006, which was a special time for the entire family.

Carl was born on April 26, 1929, in Merriman, son of the late Amos and Olga (Johnson) Johnson. He was raised in Granite Bluff, north of Iron Mountain. He worked on the family farm and attended school at the Merriman school house and then Kingsford High School, where he graduated in 1947.

Carl married Delores M. Lange on Nov. 12, 1949, at the First Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. They built their home in Granite Bluff and together they raised three children there. All three of their children followed in his footsteps and built homes in Granite Bluff, where they all reside with their families.

He was a member of the Operating Engineer's Local 324. He proudly reflected on the work he did on the Mackinac Bridge. He retired in 1991. Carl enjoyed spending time at "the camp" and had a successful hunting season in November 2006. His love for the outdoors and hard work kept him going. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He loved family time and had his own wry, yet comical sense of humor along with a warm heart and giving soul. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was referred to by extended family as the "Mayor of Granite Bluff". He often joked, "I'm rough and I'm tough and I come from Granite Bluff and the further you go the tougher they get and I live in the last house". Carl leaves a legacy for all who knew him.

Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dee; daughter, Carla (Mike) Hiatt, their children, Kate, Tracy (Kyle) and Alex; son, Ward (LeeAnn) Johnson, his children, Fawn (Joel) and Dustin (Julie); daughter, Lynn (Jay) Walsh, their children, Tierney, Lacey and Tanner; sister-in-law, Bev Johnson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Janice Lange and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven in 1956, parents, Olga and Amos Johnson; in-laws, Walt and Mary Lange; brothers, Jack and Bill (Lois) Johnson; and brother-in-law, Wally Lange.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Johnson, Mike Johnson, Brady Johnson, Terry Johnson, Scott Johnson, Jack Carlson, Rich Erickson, and Bill Noyes.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Clifford Henry Mercier

NIAGARA - Clifford Henry Mercier, 84, of Niagara, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara.

He was born April 29, 1922, in Nadeau, the oldest of seven children of the late Henry and Ida (King) Mercier. Clifford graduated from Kingsford High School in 1940. He served with the U.S. Army and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Clifford married Rita Jane Poquette on Sept. 19, 1942, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1982. He then married Jane Neuens and she also preceded him in death.

He lived in Chicago for 26 years, returning to the area in 1970. Clifford worked as a carpenter for many years, spending several of those years with Dickinson Homes.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a very faithful member of American Martyrs Catholic Church. Clifford was a very skilled craftsman who enjoyed making arts and crafts and going to shows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to country western music and he loved to dance.

Clifford is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Jerry) Snider of Tomah, Wis. and Diane (William) Rademacher of Hillsboro, Ill.; a brother, Adrian Mercier of Plant City, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Mercier Olson of Iron Mountain and Sister Jean Rene Mercier of Marquette; four grandchildren, Diana Grover, Dina (Darrell) Schultz, Deborah (Demian) Podis and Michael (Michelle) Rademacher; six great-grandchildren, Ross and Brynn Grover, Mason, Amanda and Chase Rademacher and Cole Podis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Elmer and Rev. Henry L. Mercier, a priest of the Marquette Diocese.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Snider, William Rademacher, Darrell Schultz, and Rodney, Bruce and Marty Olson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Martyrs Catholic Church.

The family has entrusted the Kingsford Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Frank Whitford

KINGSFORD - Frank S. Whitford, 91, of Kingsford, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, with his loving wife of 66 years, Marvel, at his side.

He was born on July 25, 1915, in Iron River and was the son of the late Sidney and Louisa (Gilbert) Whitford, who were both from Cornwall, England. Frank was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School Class of 1934.

He married the former Marvel Rouse on March 30, 1940, in Norway. Frank served with the United States Air Force during World War II and was a proud veteran.

He was an active member of the United Auto Workers at the Ford Plant in Kingsford until it closed in 1952. Frank served as a contract negotiator. He and his fellow members are responsible for many of the benefits enjoyed by union members today. Frank moved to Milwaukee and worked at American Motors/Chrysler until his retirement in 1975. His love of Iron Mountain brought him back to the area in 1978, except for the 16 winters he and Marvel enjoyed in Florida.

After his retirement, Frank was an active volunteer at the Iron Mountain VA Hospital and the Niagara Senior Center. He especially loved his role as "Santa" for the senior center and for disabled children. He was a past member of the Lions Club, Moose Lodge and Golden K. Frank was an avid Packer fan, loved to dance, bowl, play cards and take casino bus trips. He enjoyed his garden until the end. He had many special times with his brother-in-law, "Buddy, " the late Donald Rouse. Most of all, Frank had a great love for his family and lived for his grandchildren.

Frank will be remembered for his strong convictions, strength of character and for always being true to his word. He was kind, compassionate and his family enjoyed his quick wit. He and his wife spent the last four months of his life at his daughter and son-in-law"s home, a special time they will treasure forever.

He is survived by his wife, Marvel; his daughters, Dawne (Les) Sanders of Winona, Minn. and Sandy (Pat) Notheis of Neenah, Wis.; grandsons, John Sanders of Winona and Jeff (Lauri) Sanders of Waukesha, Wis.; granddaughter, Jennifer (Philip) Bearden of Chicago and great-grandchildren, Jenna, Ryan and Rachel Sanders of Waukesha.

Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Owen and Bert Whitford.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

The Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Neva T. Johnson

KINGSFORD - Neva T. Johnson, 90, of Kingsford, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

At her request, there will be no services.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Sadie Iris Matchett

KINGSFORD - Sadie Iris Matchett, 82, of Kingsford, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007.

Sadie was born on June 26, 1924, in Gresham, Wis., the daughter of the late James and Martha (Herzog) Reed.

Sadie worked for General Controls, Purfex, Michigan Manufacturer, Norway Gravure, Hancock Wood Products and the Kingsford Breen Senior Citizens Center.

She was a member of First Covenant Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Sadie volunteered for the Breen Center, the Covenant Women and Christian Women of the church. She liked to travel, sew, cook, garden, read and visit with her grandchildren.

Sadie is survived by her children, Elwood (Carolyn) Anderson of Iron Mountain, Alan (Elizabeth) Anderson of Kingsford, Donna (Elmer) Eckhardt of Merriman and James (Diana) Anderson of Hardwood; two stepchildren, Chris Matchett and Ken Matchett, both of Milwaukee; a sister, Rubie (Louie) Lamprecht of Milwaukee; three brothers, James (Fran) Reed of Pembine, Wis. and Henry (Heidi) Reed and Herman (Elizabeth) Reed, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Alice (Bob) Mans of Dunbar, Wis.; grandchildren, Cheryl (Brian) Larson, Gretchen (James) Zigman, Rodney (Janet) Anderson, Jill (Don) Fayas, Greg (Jennifer) Anderson, Melody Tutas, Melisa Anderson, Tonia (Ken) Chafetz, James Jr. (Jennifer) Anderson, Bill (Ruth) Anderson, Angel (Allen) Nelson, Heather (James) O'Conner, Juanita (Dale) Spencer, Wendy Nichols and Shawn (Brigette) LaRoche; 38 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elwood Anderson Sr., Russell Anderson and Russell Matchett. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eva and Tillie; a brother, Steve; and daughters-in-law, Doreen Corpron, Yvonne Anderson and Sonja Anderson.

Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at First Covenant Church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Norway cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gregory 'Chip' Anderson, Rodney Anderson, James Anderson Jr., James Anderson III, Bill Anderson Sr. and Bill Anderson Jr.

A memorial will be established in her memory at First Covenant Church.
