Dorothy (Vescelius) Rogers
06/02/1919 - 08/31/2009
Dorothy (Vescelius) Rogers, age 90 of Delaware, Ohio, formerly of Tecumseh, died peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2009 with her family at her side. She was born June 2, 1919 in Clinton, the daughter of Ned and Rhoda (Sallows) Kotts. She was a graduate of Clinton High School, class of 1937.
Dorothy was a very active member in the Missionary Baptist Church while living in Tecumseh. She worked in manufacturing in Lenawee County for many years. During World War II Dorothy was a "Rosie the Riveter". She worked at Ypsilanti State Hospital Food Service Department for many years, retiring on February 25, 1986. Dorothy loved her pets and horses. She enjoyed being outdoors and flower gardening.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Lee (Anna) Vescelius of Columbus, OH; her daughter, Vicki (Stephen) Briggs of Raleigh, NC; her sister, Mary L. Brown of Corona, CA, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John, and sister, Ilah. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 5-8 P.M. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 4 at 11:30 A.M. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes with Pastor Brian Jones of Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Willow Brook Christian Community Center, 100 Willow Brook Way South, Delaware, OH 43015.

Wilma Moore
03/23/1933 - 09/27/2009
Wilma M. Moore, age 76 of Clinton, died Sunday, September 27, 2009 in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born March 23, 1933 in Clinton, the daughter of Clarence and Doris (Socks) Wiedmayer. She was married to James Moore on June 30, 1951 and he survives.
Wilma bowled for many years in the Clinton area and was Past President of her league. She enjoyed playing Bunko, sewing, reading, and admiring the beauty of flowers. Wilma was Office Manager of her sons' horse and livestock businesses. Her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren. She loved babysitting for many families in the area. Wilma was an avid fan of her childrens' and grandchildrens' sporting events.
In addition to her husband, James, Wilma is survived by two sons, Tom Moore of Onsted and Tim Moore of Brooklyn; two daughters, Vicki (Jim) Woodward of Ankeny, Iowa and Lisa (Vic) Brown of Clinton; one sister, Judy (Dan) Semark of Clinton and their daughter, Mindy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Margaret and Roger Brooks of Manchester and their sons, Doug and Dale; nine grandchildren, Travis Moore, Reegan Watson, Lindsay Moore, Chelsea Moore, Kristin Neuroth, Shannon Heller, Sadie Brown, Cody Brown, and Paige Moore; and eight great grandchildren. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
At her request cremation has taken place. A Gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 30 at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at St. James United Church of Christ, on Us 12 in Saline, with Pastor David Bucholtz officiating. There will be visitation at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial of her cremated remains will follow in the church cemetery.

Robert Parks
04/15/1944 - 10/01/2009
Robert A. Parks, age 65 of Britton, died peacefully in his home on October 1, 2009, with his wife and family at his side. He was born April 15, 1944 in Detroit, MI, the son of J. K. and Juanita (DuVall) Parks. On September 14, 1979 he married Nancy Schoolmaster and they celebrated their 30th anniversary this past September.
Bob was a Veteran of The United States Air Force and was a member of the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene where he received the Distinguished Service Award and was the church softball coach for 25 years. He had worked as a computer programmer for DST Manufacturing in Clinton and currently for Unistrut Manufacturing in Wayne. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, four sons; Robert (Tina) Parks, Jr., of Battle Creek, Bruce (Brenda) Clark of Adrian, Brad Clark of Arkansas and Robert Clark of Tipton, four daughters; Julie Parks of Lansing, Vicki (Tim) Houttiker of Deerfield, Rebel (Don) Teboe of Clinton and Susan Armstrong of Madison, WI, one brother Jerry Parks of Fayetteville, AR, two sisters; Joy Kinum of Springhill, AR and Betty Krauss of Livonia, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three children; Jackie Clark, William Clark and Bryan Clark and one brother William Parks.
Visitation will be held at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Sunday, October 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ray Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene.

Scott Thomas
12/27/1967 - 05/18/2011
(Jonathon) Scott Thomas #60, 43, passed into heaven peacefully on May 18, 2011 at his home in Asheville, NC. Scott was a 1986 graduate of Tecumseh High School, and a 1991 graduate of Western Michigan University, as well as earning a Master"s Degree from the University of Michigan in 1995.
Scott was an all state football player at Tecumseh High School and also competed in track and wrestling. He was an all-Mid American Conference football player at WMU and played in the National Football League after college with the Houston Oilers. He served one football season as an assistant coach at U of M. He also served as an assistant football coach at Kalamazoo College.
Scott had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned and operated his own ceramic tile business and a restaurant (The Block) and was a person of many skills and talents. He enjoyed reading, trivia, sports, fishing, and spending time with his family and his many friends. He particularly enjoyed the climate in Asheville which became his second home.
Scott"s gregarious personality and unconditional generosity were two of his hallmarks. The loyalty of Scott"s friendship was without question and was demonstrated among his many friends.
Scott joins his mother, Karyn Forbes-Thomas at home in heaven. He is survived by his father John Thomas, sister Karianne (Dale Epkey), brothers Jeffrey (Erica) and Jim (Jen), four nieces - Justine, Quinn, Rebecca and Emma - and four nephews - Ian, Jeffrey, Christian and Caleb - several aunts, uncles, cousins, and by his close friend, Nicole, in Asheville. Scott will be greatly missed by his family, friends and by all whose life paths intersected with his.
A memorial celebration of Scott"s life will be held at Tecumseh Assembly of God, 1080 E. Chicago Blvd., Tecumseh, MI 49286 on Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. In the spirit of Scott this celebration will be a casual event. The family encourages anyone in attendance who would like to share a memory of Scott at that time to feel free to do so.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials in Scott's to offset expenses.

Frances Snyder
07/08/1918 - 08/25/2009
Frances Snyder, age 91 of Clinton, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 8, 1918 in Lavelle, PA the daughter of Rudolph and Sophronie Lexo. She was united in marriage to Franklin I. Snyder on March 23, 1940 and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2003.
Frances was a devoted servant to the Lord & faithful Christian who was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tecumseh and also the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Westland. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and playing games with her family. Frances was very family oriented and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son Robert (Carol) Snyder of Flushing, MI, her three daughters; Marilyn (Jeff) Trimble of Tecumseh, Marjorie (John) Ross of Wayne, MI and Linda Nortley of Clinton, one sister-in-law Althea Lexo of Coopersburg, PA, ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and her infant twin sister.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27 from 2-8 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, with Pastor Richard Webb officiating, assisted by Pastor Carl Ames. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park cemetery, Flat Rock, MI. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Westland or to Hospice of Lenawee.

Helen Marie Forsyth
07/23/1922 - 05/20/2011
Helen M. Forsyth, age 88, passed away at home Friday, May 20, 2011 under the care of Hospice of Lenawee with her loving family by her side. Helen was born July 23, 1922 at the family home in Deerfield, MI, the daughter of Joe and Olive (Upell) Brosamer. On April 22, 1944 she married Glenn R. Forsyth at St. Alphosis Church in Deerfield. Sadly he preceded her in death on December 16, 1996.
Helen was a lifetime resident of the area and an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. She enjoyed being a homemaker and managing the family farm. She raised and butchered chickens for many years, enjoyed canning, and sewing. Helen worked as a housemother at the Girls Training School, was a bus driver for Tecumseh Public Schools, and worked at Bixby Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department. She served in the Altar Society at her church and was active in 4-H. Helen loved to quilt and she belonged to the Lenawee and Toledo Quilter's Guilds. One of her quilts is on display in the Art Department at the University of Michigan.
Helen is survived by her sons, Jerry (Pat) Forsyth and Ronald Forsyth of Tecumseh; Rex (Jill) Forsyth and Jay (Charlene) Forsyth of Britton; her daughter Donna (Raymond) Roe of Deerfield; her brother Bernard (Rose) Brosamer of Adrian; her sister Mary Hawley of Sand Lake; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Glenn, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and grandson Adam J. Forsyth.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 23 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church from 11a.m. til 1p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated at 1 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler as Celebrant. Cremation will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure or to Hospice of Lenawee.

Bernice Demlow
08/01/1910 - 06/11/2011
Bernice LaVona came into the world on August 1, 1910, at home, on a 40 acre farm south of Lyons, Ohio. She was the fifth child of Parley K. and Jennie Mae (Hawkins) Gillespie.
On March 1, 1936, she was united in marriage with Alton Otto Theodore Demlow, and they lived on Maple Avenue for 66 years, until his death on October 9, 2002. To this union were born two children, Dr. Jean Demlow (George) Parmley of Tipton, and James (Joan) Demlow, of Clayton.

Bernice attended the Tecumseh Church of the Nazarene and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Adrian, she loved to crochet, and make afghans for her grandchildren, she was a lover of cats and dogs, and had many of her own over the years. She especially enjoyed music and playing her ukulele. She will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Bernice passed into eternal life on June 11, 2011 at the age of 100 years, 10 months, and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers and sisters; Hazel Smelts, Huron Gillespie, Mildred Hallett Fuller, Lester Gillespie, and Doris Gillespie, a grandson; Eric Parmley in 2010.
She leaves behind to mourn, her children, Jean, with who she made her home with after the death of her husband, and Jim, and their spouses, seven grandchildren; Timothy (Jennifer) Demlow of Adrian, Jeffrey (Sarah) Demlow of Flint, Daniel (Daisy) Demlow of Ypsilanti, Christine Lobkovich of Clayton, Andrew (Stephanie) Parmley of Whitehall, Cheryl (Orlando) Villarreal of Houston, TX, and Vicky (Carl) Boswell of Jasper, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Tecumseh Chapel of the Handler Funeral Homes on Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 6-8 PM, where funeral services celebrating her life will be on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 2 PM. Officiating will be Pastors Gary Miller and Ed Bambach of the Tecumseh Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be held for an hour before services. Burial will be at St. John's cemetery, Adrian.
Memorial gifts in her name may be given to the Tecumseh Church of the Nazarene, St. John's Lutheran Church, Adrian, or Hospice of Lenawee.

Olga K. Ebbert
08/02/1925 - 03/19/2012
Olga K. Ebbert, age 86 of Manchester, formerly of Clinton, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 with her family at her side. She was born on August 2, 1925 in Patterson, NJ, the daughter of Ignatz and Alexandra (Bascha) Klimowich. She married Harry G. Ebbert on August 3, 1945 and he preceded her in death in February of 1982.
She had been an auto parts boxer for DST Industries in Clinton for many years. She loved crocheting, listening and dancing to polka music, cooking, traveling and collecting artwork. She thoroughly enjoyed life and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by three sons; John E. (Sandy) Ebbert of Adrian, MI, Harry G. Ebbert, Jr. of Manchester and Steven W. (Cathy) Ebbert of Ann Arbor, MI, her two daughters; Betty Rosansky of Toledo, OH and Lois (Bob) Plate, Jr. of Brooklyn, MI, eight grandchildren; Kimberly (James) Gleason, James (Norma) Rosansky, Brandy (Bobby) Daniels, Billy Ann Plate, John Jr., Jason, Michael and Andrew Ebbert and eleven great grandchildren; Katie and Jimmie Gleason, Camri-Elle Rosansky, Jeffrey Bogadine, Carson and Clay Olmstead, Logan Vish, Kennadie and Colton Daniels, and Tristian and Serenity Ebbert . In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Alice Ann Ebbert.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24 at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Cindy Howard of Hospice of Northwest Ohio officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery, Clinton. Following the service, friends and family are invited to Where Friends Meet, 11701 Tecumseh-Clinton Road, Clinton for food and fellowship. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Donald Bortles
06/14/1931 - 03/23/2012
Donald Bortles, 80, of Clinton passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti on Friday March 23. He was born June 14, 1931, the son of Stanley and Grace (Tierney) Bortles. He was married to Hilda Sally on June 14, 1952. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 14, 2002 and she then preceded him in death on July 13, 2002.
Donald was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a coiler for 28 years at Associated Springs (Barnes Group) in Saline until retiring in 1993. He enjoyed many days bowling with his wife and spending time with their grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and being able to watch his grandchildren grow into adulthood. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Donald is survived by two sons, Max Bortles of Milan, and Douglas Bortles of Clinton; two daughters Deborah (Joe) Mifsud of Australia, and Penny (Ed) Thomas of Clinton; two sisters, Abigail Radtke of Milan, and Carol (John) Midkiff of Deerfield; and three grandchildren, Caitlin Crown, Daniel, and Spencer Thomas. In addition to his wife Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
At his request cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Donald's life will take place Saturday March 31 at Christ Our King Lutheran Church in Saline beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Thomas Schroeder officiating. Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A private burial of the cremated remains will take place at Riverside cemetery in Clinton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ Our King Lutheran Church.

William "Bill" Louis Szabo
06/06/1943 - 03/27/2012
William "Bill" Szabo, 68, took Jesus' hand and went to his Heavenly home on March 27, 2012 surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with gleoblastoma under the care of hospice of Lenawee. Bill was born June 6, 1943 in Wayne, MI the son of Louis and Ruth (Simmons) Szabo; he married Jeanette Bullard on June 24, 1961 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.
Bill was a tool and die maker for General Motors, Willow Run Plant for 31 years until retiring in June of 1999. He was a scoutmaster in Britton for many years. In 1976 he took his troop to Washington DC in the red, white, and blue bus that he and the troop painted; the following year they camped for two weeks at Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada. Bill earned his black belt in Tai Kwon Do and taught Karate at the YMCA for many years. He was a certified diver, rode with the Lenawee County Mounted Division, and was the co-leader of the 4H Horse Club for Britton-Macon for many years. Bill belonged to the M.A.R.C (Middle Aged Retired Christians) at the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene, where he was a member. He loved to travel, wintered in Hawaii and Florida with his wife and the family faithfully came to visit for Christmas. Bill had his wood working shop at home and enjoyed the time he spent restoring his 1969 Camaro.
In addition to his wife survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Chris) Pickell of Tecumseh, and Sherri (Jeff) Craft of Tecumseh; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Christopher Pickell; his constant companion, Daisy; one sister, Judy (Rick) Hollander of Callawasie Island, SC; and two very special aunts, Velma Thompson who was his prayer warrior through all of this, and Grace Lumetta who thought of him as her boy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
At Bill's request cremation has taken place, a celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012 3:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ray Hanson officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene, or Hospice of Lenawee.
