Blanche B Carr
10/10/1918 - 02/28/2009
Blanche Barbara Carr, age 90, of Tecumseh, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Lynwood Manor in Adrian.
She was born October 10, 1918 in Munising, MI, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Matuszewski ) Demogola, who were immigrants to the United States from Poland and early settlers of Melstrand, MI. Blanche worked at the Munising Paper Mill during WWII. She later moved to Adrian in 1962. While in Adrian she worked for Martin Marietta, Bohn Aluminum and Siena Heights. She started working in 1989 in Boysville of Michigan as a Foster Grandparent and retired from there after 15 years of service.
She was a member of the Munising American Legion Auxiliary Post 0131 for 62 years. Blanche was also a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh and the Sacred Heart Church of Munising.
Blanche is survived by her children Joan (Jim) Anderson of Munising, John "Jack" (Connie) Carr of Tecumseh, Peter (Esther) Carr of Adrian and Mary Sue Carr of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Steven Demogola, Michael Demogola and Theodore "Bud" Demogola and her sisters, Rose Melwicki and Anna Hamilla.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service and burial of cremains will take place at a later date in Munising, Michigan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boysville Center-Holy Cross Children's Services in Clinton, MI and the Lenawee County Dept. on Aging in Adrian, MI. Envelopes are available at the Handler Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Ardath E. Oberlin
01/28/1925 - 03/24/2009
Ardath E. Oberlin, age 84, of Tecumseh, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Windhaven Terrace in Temperance MI. She was born on January 28, 1925 in Waldron, MI, the daughter of Butler and Coral (Baker) Terrill. On May 7, 1943 she was married to Frederick Oberlin.
Ardath was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tecumseh where she was the organist for 40 years and was a member of P.E.O. She was a homemaker and taught organ and piano lessons for many years. Ardath was a member of the Tecumseh Music Club and Orchestra and enjoyed quilting, sewing and traveling.
In addition to her husband, Ardath is survived by two sons, John Oberlin of Elsie, MI and Jim (Nancy) Oberlin of Britton, MI; one daughter, Linda (Gene) Stock of Temperance, MI; two grandchildren, Chad (Jessica) Stock and Kevin Stock; and two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Stock and Cade Stock. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Ardath was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Tecumseh later in the spring with Rev. Richard Mortimer officiating. Following cremation, inurnment will take place in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Tecumseh, Choir.

Jack D. Carr
08/18/1934 - 07/20/2009
Jack Duane Carr, age 74 of Raisin Township, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1934 in Hudson, Michigan, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Farnsworth) Carr. On March 13, 1954 he was married to Donna Thibodeau and she survives.
Jack was employed at Tecumseh Products for 42 years, retiring in 1995. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh. Jack enjoyed his Paso Fino horses, traveling, and loved NASCAR.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Jack is survived by one son, Mark (Lisa) Carr of Tecumseh; one daughter, Denise Stevens of Adrian; two brothers, Dan Carr of Camden, MI and Warren Carr of Adrian; six grandchildren; Garrett Stevens, Megan and P.K. Kolby & Nathan, Wyatt, and Collin Carr and one great- granddaughter, Brooklynn Pratt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from2-4 and 6-8 P.M. The Funeral Service will be on Friday, July 24 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh with Rev. Richard Mortimer officiating. In state at the church from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh with full Military Honors under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and the Tecumseh VFW Post #4187 . Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice or the American Lung Association.

Merrill Dee Brown
10/27/1939 - 07/20/2009
Merrill Dee Brown, age 69 of Clinton, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at home. He was born on October 27, 1939 in Sabine, West Virginia, the son of Willie Dee and Ruby (Fleming) Brown. He married Nerissa Strand on December 26, 1978 and she survives.
Merrill was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a machine operator for Ford Motor Company in Rawsonville for over 30 years until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Merrill will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Merrill is survived by two step-sons, Gary McCarty of Adrian and Tommy McCarty of Clinton; five step-daughters, Roxie (Bill) Osburn of Tecumseh, Jeane (Rod) Sears of Tecumseh, Vickie (Mark) Jedele of Clinton, Susan McCarty of Clinton and Nancy Spencer of Adrian; three brothers, Lawrence (Sherry) Brown of Oceana, WV, Clarence "Sonny" (Suk) Brown of Rockledge, FL and Lowell "Tom" (Sharon) Brown of Oceana, WV; 5 nieces and 1 nephew. Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, one step-son, Gerald "Boo" McCarty and one sister, Virginia Brown.
Cremation has taken place. No visitation or services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Michigan Heart Association.

Robert John Voorhees
04/08/1959 - 07/22/2009
Robert Voorhees, age 50 of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his home. He was born on April 8, 1959 in Tecumseh, the son of Robert and Judith (Saley) Voorhees.
Robert was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a computer technician for Defense Contractors. He enjoyed building and riding bicycles, surfing and playing the guitar and mandolin. Robert will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Robert is survived by his parents, Robert and Judith of Tecumseh; one brother, Jeff (Cathy) Voorhees of Tecumseh; one sister, Andrea (John) Morrow of Clinton; two nieces, Jessica and Heather Voorhees; two nephews, David Arlinghaus and John Perry III; several aunts and uncles; special friend of many years, Christeen Deatherage of Lake City, FL; and special companion Quantum the Cat. Robert was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee County Conservation League.

Lorene Alys Edelbrock
10/05/1916 - 07/24/2009
Lorene A. Edelbrock, age 92 of Britton, died Friday, July 24, 2009 in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti. She was born October 5, 1916 in Britton, MI, the daughter of Howard and Florence (McComb) Kniffen. On September 28, 1951, she was married to Lester Edelbrock and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1957.
Lorene was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Britton. She enjoyed doing needlecraft, crossword puzzles, and her favorite hobby was reading. She was a member of the Herrick Medical Center Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the Michigan Education Association and National Education Association. She was a past member of Ridgeway cemetery Board.
Lorene was employed for many years as a school teacher. She taught in the Reinhardt District in Monroe County from 1937 to 1940, Nellie White District in Dundee from 1940 to 1947, Dundee Community Schools from 1947 to 1951, and the Britton-Macon District as a Kindergarten Teacher from 1956 to 1979, retiring in 1979.
Lorene is survived by several nieces and nephew including, Cathy and Bill Short of Dundee and their children, Scott (Gwen) Short and Amy Short, Paul and Terri Kniffen of Britton and their children, Paul (Amy) Kniffen, Phillip (Wynter) Kniffen, Riley and Hunter Kniffen, Angela Hall, and Ryan Kniffen. In addition to her husband, Lester, Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Granville Kniffen and nephew, Howard Kniffen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 3-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church in Britton with Pastor Amy Mayo-Moyle officiating. Visitation from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Thursday at the church. Interment will follow in Ridgeway cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.

Frederick Rettke
08/23/1923 - 07/30/2009
Frederick "Fred" O. Rettke, age 85 of Tecumseh, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Lynwood Manor in Adrian. He was born on August 23, 1923 in Detroit, MI, the son of August and Elisabeth (Kurz) Rettke. He married Jennifer A. Helgren on October 6, 1956 and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2001.
Fred was an Army Veteran of WWII and was a lifetime member of the Tecumseh VFW Post #4187 and was also a member of the Clinton American Legion Post #176. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Southern Michigan Railroad, Friends of the Library and the Clinton Historical Society. Fred was a self employed farmer in this area for many years and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He had also worked at Double A Products in Manchester, MI.
He is survived by his close friends Dale and Cheryl Matzinger of Clinton, his sister Lorene Mudge of White Lake, MI, one nephew Richard Mudge also of White Lake, MI and his God Children, Amy Clark of Fowlerville, MI and Edward Namyaslowski of Jacksonville, FL.
At Fred's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside cemetery Chapel with Pastor Richard Webb of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church officiating. Contributions may be made to the Clinton American Legion Post #176.

Donna L. Covell
02/21/1940 - 06/06/2007
Donna Lee Covell, 67, of Tecumseh, has gone to eternal rest on June 6, 2007. She was born February 21, 1940 in Lawrence, MI to Carl and Josephine (Goodrich) Crankshaw. On September 5, 1959 she was married to William H. Covell and he survives.
Donna went to several schools, graduating from Clinton High School in 1958. Donna retired after thirty-three years at Edwards Brothers in Ann Arbor and operated her own pick up and delivery service business, known as Quicky Errands for ten years before becoming ill with heart disease. Donna's favorite place away from home was the South Shore area of Houghton Lake.
In addition to her husband, William, Donna is survived by two sons; Clayton Covell of Tecumseh and Scott (Jennifer) Covell of Adrian. She was the loving grandmother to C. W. and Josette Covell of Clinton and Kaylee, Britaney, and Hannah Covell of Adrian. Also surviving a sister-in-law, Nadine Sharp and a brother-in-law, Steve Covell. Donna will be greatly missed by her family and many friends
At her request, cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lenawee. Arrangements were entrusted to Handler Funeral Homes.

Charles A. Sweezey
04/30/1917 - 08/06/2009
Charles A. Sweezey, age 92 of Tecumseh, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh with his loving family at his side. He was born April 30, 1917 in Jackson, MI, the son of Theron and Reo (Landon) Sweezey. He married his bride of 51 years, Irene E. Harvey on April 21, 1938 and she preceded him in death on October 15, 1989.
Charles was a Tool and Die Maker for the Clark Equipment Company in Jackson for over 30 years, retiring the 1970's and also was a mechanic at the Studebaker Garage, Jackson for many years. His great joy was playing the violin, and he, along with his band played in many clubs in the Irish Hills area from the 30's-50's. He attended Grace Bible Church, Tecumseh, enjoyed racing midget cars, working in his yard and gardening. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Charles "Ron" (Don McCallum) Sweezey of Tecumseh and Robert (Lynn) Sweezey of Eustis, FL; two daughters Bonnie (Bob) Scheytt of Adrian and Marilyn (Forrie "Woody") Connelly of Michigan Center, MI; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren with one on the way.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes, 313 W. Pottawatamie St., Tecumseh, MI 49286, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Michael Bracy officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove cemetery, Napoleon, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com. The family would like to express a special thanks to Pastor David Holly, Pastor Larry LaFollette, Hospice of Lenawee and to the many friends and staff at Cambrian Assisted Living.

Marjorie D. Wright
05/15/1924 - 08/16/2009
Marjorie D. Wright, age 85 of Tecumseh, died peacefully Sunday morning, August 16, 2009, at her daughter's home with her family at her side. She was born on May 15, 1924 in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Kishpaugh) McGregor.
Marge was Nutrition Director for the Lenawee County Department on Aging for twenty years until she retired in 1994. She was a member of NewSong Community Church, Tecumseh and had enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, going to Hidden Lake Gardens and spending time with her family and many friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by three sons; Gene (Deborah) Wright of Okemos, MI, Gary (Rose) Wright of Raleigh, NC, and Kim (Linda) Wright of Eaton Rapids, MI, three daughters; Ruth Ann Weber of Jackson, MI, Roberta (Brian) Kindinger of East Lansing, MI, and Renee Smith of Tecumseh, two step-daughters; Dolores (James) Bannon of Williamston, MI and Carol (Edward) Basso of Grand Ledge, MI, fourteen grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, one great grandchild and six step great grandchildren, her beloved dog, Zsa Zsa and many "family like" friends.
At Marge's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes with Pastor Tom Hawkins of NewSong Community Church officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to NewSong Community Church, 133 E. Chicago Blvd., Tecumseh, MI 49286, in her memory.
