Sizemore, Ophard V.
Ypsilanti, MI
At age 81, this dear Christian man left this earth and entered into Heaven Thursday, May 4, 2006. On February 13, 1925, he was born and raised in Harlan, KY, the son of John and Axie (Wyatt) Sizemore. On June 26, 1948, he married
Georgia Parks in Bowling Green, OH and she survives. Ophard was a member of Victorious Life Church of God and was retired from General Motors after 20 years of employment. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He enjoyed all other outdoor activities, especially camping up north with his son, Mark. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” and lived life to its fullest. At 81 years of age, he still had an active builder’s license. Ophard was a Sunday school teacher and song leader for Willow Run Church of God for over 30 years. He dearly loved family gatherings and fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, survivors include- two daughters, Joyce (Mark) Edenburn of Belleville and Linda (Vince) Vloch of OH; one son, Mark (Kathy) of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Manilla Record of Pen Yan, NY and Lavena Milwee of Brookville, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and one daughter, Brenda LaFontaine. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Victorious Life Church of God, 1405 Sweet Road, Ypsilanti with Rev. Ron Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel 6-9 P.M. Monday and 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Tuesday.
Street, Rita V. “Jackie”
Ypsilanti, MI
At age 79, Jackie went home to be with the Lord at her residence with her family at her side April 5, 2006. Jackie was born April 2, 1927 in Stacyville, ME. She was the daughter of Harold P. and Zula (Morrow) Rodgerson. Survivors include- four daughters, Sharon Shures, Dee (Ronald) Vayda, Denise (Chester) Jenkins and Jeannine (Thaddeus) Street-Ostrewich; nine grandchildren, Phillip Shures, Rebeca Denike, Lee Jr., Sean and Carl Jenkins, Raymond “R.J.” and Hunter Vayda and Shelby and Miranda Ostrewich; two great granddaughters, Samantha and Heather Shures; one great grandson, Lee Jenkins III; one brother, Vinal “Porky” (Sandra) Rodgerson; one sister, Maxine “Macky” (Richard) Brackett; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Neustadt and Phil W. Street, and five brothers and five sisters from various parts of the country. At the age of eleven years, Jackie worked in a kitchen of a lumber camp in Grindstone, ME. She also stated she picked potatoes, as most do in Maine, but was not the greatest at that particular task. Jackie spent time at various waitressing jobs in Bangor, including the Belmonte Ritz Hotel and the Air Force Base PX, where she met her first husband, Sam. After marrying Sam when she was seventeen, they moved to Ann Arbor, where she had various jobs, including Thompsons Restaurant and Argus Camera. After Sam’s passing, she married
Phil and worked at Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville plant until her retirement in 1989. Jackie loved to spend time on her front porch, talking to her longtime neighbors and friends. Jackie was well known for preparing an overabundance of food at family gatherings where everyone was always welcome. Jackie was an avid reader of romance novels, enjoyed picture puzzles and soaps on T.V. Jackie also enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. Jackie Street will always be remembered for her generosity; if anyone needed anything, they just had to ask. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice, 806 Airport Boulevard, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Cremation has taken place. A family memorial will be held on Easter over dinner. Age 63, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born August 1, 1942 in Delbarton, WV, the daughter of John F. and Vicie (Justice) White. Mrs. Tucker retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville plant. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Ypsilanti. Survivors include- her husband, Denton Tucker; six daughters, Donna Saffel, Deborah (Mike) Slaven, Tammie Chavez, Vicki (Edward) Kurowicki, Kristina (Patrick) Nichols and Carrie Ann (Matthew) Bilbrey; one son, Mark (Kim) Tucker; 26 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Cornett of Willis, Kennie Ray White of Byrdstown, TN, Glen Dale White of Ragland, WV, Freda Lea LaPlante of Kirkville, NY and Johnny F. White of Belleville, MI; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Delano Jay White, one sister, Merlene White and her parents. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Tuesday, April 11 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Denton cemetery. Visitation will be 10-00 A.M.-9 P.M. Age 78, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006. He was born February 20, 1928. Before attending college, he served in the U.S. Army in Japan. He graduated from the University of MI in 1952 as a registered pharmacist. He owned and operated Weber’s Pharmacy in Depot Town, Ypsilanti for 23 years. After selling Weber’s Pharmacy, he worked for the Richardson’s Pharmacy chain. He then worked for Wenk’s Pharmacy in Ann Arbor, where he retired after 23 years of service. Before and after retirement, he enjoyed refinishing furniture. He is survived by- his wife of 52 years, Dolores; four daughters, Cheryl (Richard) Wallaker-Makolin, Donna Cryer, Sandra (Richard) Lambert and Linda (Jeffrey) Kieler; eight grandchildren, James (Tiffany) Lambert, Aubrey (Jason) Lambert-Maierle, Shannon and Jeremy Cryer, Christopher Wallaker, Allen Kieler and Jessica Makolin. The memorial service will be 6-00 P.M. Saturday, April 29, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the U of M School of Pharmacy or the charity of your choice. Age 73, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006 at his home with his family at his side. He was born December 31, 1932 in Ransom, KY, the son of Elijah T. and Sadie (Patrick) Carter. On August 15, 1959, he married
Etta Trout in Hardy, KY and she survives. He came to Ypsilanti in 1970. He was employed by Ford Motor Company, Saline plant for 29-1/2 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Stony Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Carter loved to play the mandolin, sing and restore and drive cars. In addition to his loving wife of 46 years, survivors include- four children, Gregory (Tammy) of Ypsilanti, Paula (Gary) Sherwood of Ypsilanti, Elizabeth Carter of Brownstown, MI and Matthew Carter of Ypsilanti; five grandchildren, Gary Lynn, Brandon, Mallory, Sadie and Keegan; three brothers, Bill (Rita) of OH, Gary (Sue) of IL and Don (Meg) Carter of IL; one sister, Pam (Don) Moehling of IL; sister-in-law, Ruby Carter-Yackle of IL; brother-in-law, Lloyd Smith of IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Hershel and one sister, Patricia Smith. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Thursday, May 18 at Stony Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 8735 Stony Creek, Ypsilanti, with Rev. Wayne Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Stony Creek cemetery. Age 56, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006 at home. She was born February 11, 1950 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of William and Edith (Moore) Chapman. Ruth Ann was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Ypsilanti. She moved to Tennessee in 2001. Survivors include- her mother, Edith Chapman of TN; one brother, Lloyd (Brenda) Chapman of TN; two stepsisters, Edna Step and Wanda Cassidy, both of KY; one niece, LaVone Chapman-Robbins; one nephew, Troy R. Chapman; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lois and her father. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Age 58, passed away Monday, May 15, 2006. She was born July 26, 1947 in Canton, MS, the daughter of Ernest and Jennie (Harris) Sanders. On October 23, 1965, she married
Carl Dean in Ypsilanti and he survives. Mrs. Dean graduated from Wayne State University with a B.S. in Education. She taught for the Detroit Public Schools for 34 years, retiring from Van Zile Elementary in 2004. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Ann Arbor. In addition to her loving husband of 40 years, survivors include- her mother, Jennie Sanders of Ypsilanti; two children, Anthony and Traci Dean, both of Ypsilanti; two granddaughters, Genia and Stephanie; two brothers, Earl (Joan) Sanders of Chicago, IL and Duane Sanders of Ypsilanti; one sister, Connie (Fred) Williams of Ypsilanti; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Monday, May 22 at Second Baptist Church, 850 Red Oak, Ann Arbor. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8 P.M. Age 67, passed away May 26, 2006 in Florida. He was born July 1, 1938 in Pontiac, MI, the son of Virgil and Edith (Dempsey) Foster. Don was a member of the Singles Club in Winter Haven and he worked for General Motors, Ecorse Road warehouse for 20 years, retiring in 1993. Survivors include- two sons, Greg Foster of Willis and Geoff (Jen) Foster of NC; three grandchildren; one sister, Elaine (Jim) Landback; three brothers, Jerry, Mike and David; and several nieces and nephews. Age 83, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006. He was born September 28, 1922 in Lincoln Park, Michigan, the son of Jessie J. and Emma (Heiden) Garrison. On October 8, 1949, he married
Marie E. Reigel and she survives. Will served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Michigan State Normal College and in 1985 he retired from the General Motors Hydramatic Division. He enjoyed his walks through Gallup Park, reading in his easy chair, listening to classical music, wearing his flannel shirts, eating chocolate covered cherries and homemade pies, sipping ouzo and smoking his pipe. Will was known for his brush cut, which he had all of his life. In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, survivors include - two sons, Alan (Marcia) and Bruce (Mary) Garrison; four daughters, Shirley (Robert) Hatto, Carol (Mark) Schmidt, Nancy (John) Schultz and Sandra (Ronald) Kretschmer; 12 grandchildren, Bryan (Amy), Steven, Gregory, Mark, Stephanie, Michael, Paul, Jack, Lee, Catherine, Samantha and Ashley; two brothers, Gerald and Ralph Garrison; four sisters, Hilda Ditton, Evelyn Sawyer, Barbara Keoshian and Audrey Fox; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son and several brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be 11 -00 A.M. Tuesday, June 6 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1515 S. Harris Rd. Jim worked for the Sheet Metal Workers Local #292 for 14 years. Survivors include- his parents, James and Beverly Hudgens of AR; two sisters, Cecile (Rick) Holly of TX and Nancy (Chris) Maples-Shipp of TX; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
