BERNITH LOU STANTON
Milan
Bernith Lou Stanton, 80, of Milan died peacefully Dec. 29, 2006, at home with her family by her side after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Mrs. Stanton was born Feb. 19, 1926, in Milan to Oscar O. and Alice (Fullerton) Berkley. She was a graduate of Milan High School.
At the age of 40, she enrolled at Washtenaw Community College and earned an associate's degree. In 1977, she added a bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University, a master's in 1981, also from EMU, and a master's in social work from the University of Michigan in 1985 with a specialist's certificate in gerontology.
Mrs. Stanton proudly worked in various settings as a clinical social worker with older adults and with children with mental retardation. Her special loves included her family, antiques, music, folk arts and rug hooking. She was especially proud to have received her pilot's license in 1966 while working as an aircraft insurance underwriter.
Mrs. Stanton was an active member of the People's Presbyterian Church of Milan since joining in 1935 at 9 years old. She was elected to and served on the Milan Public Library Board for several years.
Mrs. Stanton is survived by Raymond B. Stanton, her loving and devoted husband of 61 years; her five children, Jennifer Kreger of Howell, Jill (Ron) Morey of Milan, Mary (Rick) Fishwick of Chelsea, John (Renee) Stanton of Atlanta and Sarah Stanton (Jay Kukor) of Saline.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, honorary family member Donald Barnett, and many close and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frederic Berkley; and a sister, Shirley Niga.
A memorial worship service celebrating her life was held Tuesday at the People's Presbyterian Church. Cremation has taken place.

BETTY E. PIPER
Urbana, Ohio
Betty E. Piper, 80, of Urbana, Ohio, died May 24, 2007. She was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Harmony, Ohio, to Rufus and Estie May Roach. She married
Richard R. Piper Oct. 9, 1945.
Mrs. Piper is survived by her husband and three children, Edward Piper of Milan, Randy Piper of Urbana, Ohio, and Jodie (Piper) Laslow of Bellefontaine, Ohio; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 30 at Kauffman & Eicholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty, Ohio.
The Pipers will be remembered for owning and operating the Western Auto hardware store in Milan from 1967 to 1984. Friends may contact the family through the oldest son, Edward, at 1-910-880-0542.
JOY DUNMIRE FAULKNER
Interlochen, Fla.
Formerly of Milan
Joy Faulkner, 54, died May 2, 2007, at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 16, 1952, in Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Faulkner graduated from Milan High School in 1970 and took art classes at Washtenaw Community College. She had a talent for all forms of art, and was always painting, drawing, making crafts or walking along the beach collecting sea shells.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; children Amie, Nada and Brooks; grandchildren, Damien, Stone, Justin, Bria and Brice: her parents, Justin and Ruth Dunmire; and her sister, Justine Dunmire.
Cremation and a memorial service have taken place.
LEE MIDDLETON COTTER
Moon, Va.
The Rev. Lee Middleton Cotter of Moon, Va., went home to his Father May 30, 2007, after a long illness. He was born in Pleasantville, N.Y., in 1929, the youngest of five children. He served in the Marine Corp. and worked at Grumman Aircraft.
Mr. Cotter earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and philosophy at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, and served Lindora Methodist church, where he developed Sermagic, a sermon in magic.
He earned a master's degree in divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary. While at Princeton, he served at South Amboy and Cliffwood Methodist churches. He was accepted into the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Mr. Cotter served the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. At the urging of Presbytery, he helped that church acquire property and build first a Christian Education building and then a sanctuary. He served on the Presbytery's Ministerial Relations committee and the Synod's Radio and Television Committee.
Mr. Cotter was one of the organizers and the first president of the Atlantic County Council of Churches. He produced a Sunday morning devotional radio program and on Sunday nights conducted his own radio talk show, "Ask Your Pastor". He was elected president of the Atlantic County Big Brothers organization.
He founded a Big Brothers office in Fredericksburg, Va., and taught philosophy and psychology at Germana Community College. Returning to the ministry, he accepted a call to the Mount Hebron Presbyterian Church in Ellicott City, Md. He helped that church restore an old stone farmhouse, which was used for Christian education and a caretaker's apartment. He also served on the board of the Howard County hospital and was chairman of their personnel committee.
Mr. Cotter last call was to The First Presbyterian Church in Saline. He helped that church replace a double-wide trailer with a Christian education building that included a fellowship hall, kitchen, offices, a choir room and classrooms. He also served on a committee that built and established a senior citizen apartment building, and served on a court-appointed Youth Diversion Committee.
Following in the footsteps of his parents, Judge Richard and Ruth Cotter, he retired to Mathews County, Va., with his wife, Marilyn Jo. As long as his health allowed, he was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and the Food Bank.
Mr. Cotter's parents and four siblings, the Rev. Richard Cotter Jr., the Rev. Douglas Cotter, Willard Cotter, esq., and Ruth Lois Bryson, preceded him in death.
His wife, children and their families survive, including Kenneth and Marcea Cotter; Randall and Kathleen of Ellicott City, Md.; Donna Lee and David Pipkin; Christopher Lee; and Jason of Fredericksburg.
Other survivors include his stepchildren and grandchildren, Robert Allesee Jr.; John and Karen Allesee-Sterzik; William and Joan Allesee; and Meredith and Olivia of Michigan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Ulrich will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday at H. C. Smither cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of one's choice.
HOWARD W. McALLISTER
Venice, Fla.
Howard W. McAllister, 76 of Venice, Fla., died Aug. 5, 2007. He was born March 18, 1931, in Saline, the son of Mary and William McAllister.
Mr. McAllister worked for R & B Machine Tool before moving to Venice in 1973, where he owned his own lawn maintenance business for many years.
Memorial services were held Aug. 8 at Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Venice and entombment was at Gulf Pines Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Lou; son, Dean McAllister of Phoenix; daughters, Sherry Elliott of Crossville, Tenn.; Shelly Parrish of North Port, and Christiana Doby, Robin Adrian and Rachelle Buckmaster, all of Venice.
In addition, brothers Kenneth of Alabama and Donald of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Grace Carter of Saline; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren survive.
Mr. McAllister was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lawrence, and an infant son.

DAVID J. POTTER
Saline
David J. Potter, 84, ofSaline died Aug. 17, 2007, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born Oct. 13, 1922, the son of Charles and Ella(Schaw) Potter.
On May 16, 1953, he married
Betty Lou Harris in Ferndale, and she preceded him in death Sept. 6, 1993.
Mr. Potter owned CommunityFord Automobile Dealership in Saline from 1967 to 1986. He started the Christmas in Action program in Saline in 1992. He served on the York Township Board and was the board supervisor. He also served on the Saline and Milan fire department boards.
Mr. Potter was economic development coordinator for both Saline and Ypsilanti, worked at Alpha House as a volunteer, was a Cub Scout co-leader, counseled prisoners at Milan Prison and was a member of the Masonic Scottish Rite in Detroit. He also was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in both World War II and Korea.
Mr. Potter is survived by his children, Sara Lou (Rick) Latoszewskiof Saline and Timothy (the late Lori) Potter, also of Saline, and his grandchildren, Tyler and Jennifer Latoszewski and Jessica and Conner Potter.
He was preceded in death but his parents, wife and his sister, Vivian Potter.
Visitation was Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.
A service was held Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Saline, with Bishop Craig Harris, officiating, followed by military honors underthe auspices of the Veterans Honor Guard of Washtenaw County.
Cremation followed the services.

JESSICA KEEFNER
Ann Arbor
Jessica Lynn (Pratt) Keefner, 46, of Ann Arbor died at home Oct. 19, 2006. She was born July 26, 1960, in Ann Arbor to Robert and Doris (Jacobs) Pratt.
Ms. Keefner graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor and earned an associate's degree from Washtenaw Community College.
Ms. Keefner was a graphic designer for Heritage Newspapers and worked at The Saline Reporter office.
Her parents; sons, Maxwell and Ian Keefner; her sons' father, Paul; siblings, Wendy Goffinet and Jeffrey Pratt; a close friend, Ralph Kegley; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins, survive. She also leaves behind two pets, Jewel and Fluffy.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial to follow at Marble Park cemetery in Milan.
Contributions are being accepted by the family for her children.
GLENDA E. HANNUM
Milan
Glenda E. Hannum, 92, of Milan died Oct. 19, 2006, at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor and is now with the Lord, her family said. She was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Swanton, Ohio, to Harry and Tillie (Eisenhauer) Herrick.
Mrs. Hannum graduated from Britton High School and lived in Milan until she and her husband, Jerald, moved to Harrison in 1976. There she was active with the Catholic Church, Ladies Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose.
Mrs. Hannum's husband died in 1993. In 2001, she moved back to Milan to be near her niece, Barbara Gardinier-Wollman.
Mrs. Hannum was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Milan, the Ladies Altar Society and the Milan Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, William Hannum, of Lansing; two grandchildren, Casey and Cameron; nieces; nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Marie; her parents; brothers, Charles and Ralph; and a sister, Velma Rowe.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery in Milan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milan Senior Citizens or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
